Capcom’s writing is for morons. Its a fun game, but like RE, its dogshit narrative just turns in into an unintentional black comedy rather than drama.

That’s probably the darkest the game ever gets until late game really. Everything else is honestly so tone deaf it’s actually funny.

It was never intended to be a drama which is why it's more of a mystery/thriller.

      >unintentional black comedy
The game literally allows you to dress Frank like Mega Man wearing undersized 6-year-old toddlerwear and appear that way in cutscenes. It's meant to be selectively funny playable B-movie depending on the player's decisions.

Dead Rising is not only a masterpiece in terms of gameplay its also a fascinating parody of American culture. Also Frank West acts more like a detective than a photo journalist, he even has a theme for when he's putting the pieces together.

DR1 was trying to do the same parody that George Romero already accomplished well over decades before it and Capcom is full of moron japs trying to emulate that (despite them denying this is a Dawn of the Dead ripoff).

        >Capcom is full of moron japs trying to emulate that
That's what makes it interesting. Nobody in America would write the sympathetic Vietnam veteran having a PTSD flashback and the obese lesbian rapist cop into the same game.

Yeah, so it just comes off as actual black comedy rather than some social satire that misses the point anyways.

            Anonymous

It being a black comedy doesn't stop it from also having some social satire. Also dead rising didn't miss jack shit with it's social satire.

              Anonymous

I guess if you were making fun of fat people as a social theme lmao. Otherwise, I’d refer you to OG Dawn of the Dead for an actual GOOD satire of the same exact kind.

Alright, what I don't like on two is having to craft combo weapons instead of picking up whatever I find and play with it, running back to the workshop and always using the same combos wasn't fun.
So should I buy dr1? I heard the AI is dogshit but I take it as a bonus challenge.

Dead Rising 1 is easily the best in the series. The AI is indeed horrendous but you get used to it.

      Anonymous

You can already do that in DR2? Just don’t craft?

      Anonymous

You'll still end up using the strong weapons unless you purposely gimp yourself, like there's no reason not to stick with the minichainsaws

I always knew where to go get the katana just because it was such a good top tier free weapon over most of the dogshit in the mall.

Its alluding to the origin of the zombies being the cow experiments the doctor mentioned. Carlito is just mad that because of fatfricks everyone in his town died.
Did you even pay attention? There is a reason Frank, while not justifying what he did, has sympathy and feels bad for Carlito, and promises to expose the people who created the virus.

DR1's AI is abysmal but it's part of the difficulty at this point, and in fairness only adds to how fricking stressful and rewarding it is to rescue everyone.

yeah but the theme of the game is supposed to be consumerism right?
it's set in a mall after all
I just thought that that part about government doing weird experiments to increase the beef production wasnt very fitting

Also its pretty hard and kind of slow on the begining but once you start to reach level 10 you will find joy mindlessly killing zombies and finding survivors, btw their IA sucks so you better get used to it fast.

If you frick up a case the game gives you the voice to either reload a save, start the game over, or keep playing until the end which will get you a different ending, but it gives you the chance to explore and get to know the mall without having to worry about the time limit. After that you can start over with your level and PP carried over.

What is great about Dead Rising is that it is an example of a AAA arcade style game that is meant to be replayed several times to improve your outcomes. This genre is pretty rare, and you have to appreciate what you get.
