I go out of my way to play bad games occasionally, so I can better appreciate good ones, sort of like how you can get used to good food.

Worst once I've beaten was Escape Dead Island. Totally rubbish, cheap and lazy. It uses weird trippy stuff to justify asset flips, and I swear half of the story must've been cut.

List of bad games I've played which I actually liked:
Alone In The Dark (2008) - Interesting immersive sim item combos and absurd setpieces that have you laughing
Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy - David Cage's most enjoyable game. Heavy Rain initially, turns into B-movie insanity halfway though and I can tell you exactly where.
Judge Dredd Dredd vs Death - Just a PS2 shooter port really, I like Judge Dredd so I'm biased.
Marlow Briggs & The Mask Of Death - Aztec God Of War. Some nice enviroments.
Necrovision - Wait, this isn't a serious shooter! This is Painkiller! Prepare to boot everything until it dies.
Resident Evil 6 - Played with a friend. If you go in expecting a RE game you'll be unhappy. If you go in expecting a gun-fu game, you'll like it. Progression is fun, I should beat it on Pro sometime.
Kane and Lynch 2 - Very stylish, third person shooting in a dump. Similar to Max Payne 3. I appreciated it's short runtime.
Split Second - Motorstorm Apocalypse with all the style sanded off, but some fun gameplay causing disasters to kill opponenets.

I could go into more detail if you like, there's way more but a lot of the games like these I try just end up being mediocre and hardly of note.

      Must check that out someday.

i was really bored and got it for like 2 or 3 dollars

Honestly I liked it. Shooting was mediocre, presentation was fun.

I've played most of Cage's stuff.
Fahrenheit > Heavy Rain > Beyond Two Souls = Detroit Become Human

Dafoe in BTS and Connor & Hank in DBH carry their respective games. I'll probably replay BTS sometime, since my sister enjoyed playing Heavy Rain with me.

I recommend playing Hello Neighbor anon.
That shit is absolute fricking trash that feels like it was designed an actual schizophrenic. It’s a stealth game where the stealth is shit and the neighbor’s ai is moronic and on the biggest level, a non-entity. You need to solve puzzles to make progress but every single one of them makes the cat-mustache puzzle from Gabriel Knight look like a word-search for kindergarteners in terms of sheer nonsensicality. Platforming is plentiful in the latter half, but the physics are the most floaty UE4-demo-tier shit to exist. The plot is moronic theorybait that has the fricking gall to pull the “it was a dream” card and makes no sense.
I could go on and on about this. The only reason this thing is still an IP is because the only people who unironically enjoy this are children who watch youtubers like matpat. It’s essential shitcore.

Please do. I find discussing mediocre games really interesting. A lot of these games have cool ideas, but poor execution, and I enjoy analyzing why a game is/isn't good.

Other bad games that turned out just mediocre:
The Beast Inside - Unbearably boring. It's an open world linear horror game, it just turns into you running around a giant map doing nowt. You get a gun for ten minute total, about an hour in and have a bossfight, where the game immediately peaks.
Curse: The Eye Of Isis - Mediocre Resident Evil clone mixed with The Mummy. Some fun areas, weapons and bosses. Story is kinda lame.
Dead Effect - Port of a mobile game, as you can tell by how ingame currency works. A decent Doom 3 and Killing Floor hybrid.
Dementium II - DS survival horror metroid vania. Melee weapons are too powerful so you can circle strafe every enemy with a knife.
Legendary - FPS game where you fight mythical creatures, a few good setpieces. Best part is where it takes advantage of the setting, like where faeries possess a vending machine and you have a bossfight with it.
Rogue Warrior - A competent and short third person shooter where the main character just swears the entire time.
Silent Hill Homecoming - I liked the story kind of, but the rest of it? Man. Pyramid Head shows up for a short cameo (Isn't he exclusive to James in SH2?). Some of the bosses (like the porcelain doll were fun). The otherworld areas feel like the inside of a boiler or something.
Super Seducer - I don't like PUA stuff but I respect all the dumb game overs. It's like the Henry Stickmin games but instead of getting a helicopter flown at you for a funny game over you insult a woman for not sharing her SteamID.

I'll make another post in a bit talking about games so bad I dropped them.

Split second and Kane & Lynch 2 are unironically kino

          I totally agree.

          >I can tell you exactly where
          Matrix ticks?

The part where you escape the cops via The Matrix parkour.

I hated damn near every minute of it, but I stupidly forced myself to finish all four campaigns because I couldn't bring myself to let it be the one mainline instalment I didn't finish.

Funniest part of that game was that Ada's campaign has a partner awkwardly shoved it that's never mentioned or referenced.

Every time Ada uses her grapplehook the mystery Agent man just teleports next to her which is the funniest shit ever.

Jimmy Neutron on GBA it's nostalgic for me but not a very good game by any means.

Probably the most disappointing for me. Mass Effect 3 was but it has its moments, the multiplayer is good, and I can replay it and enjoy myself but Bioshock Infinite's pacing and combat feel so fricking dated since the retro FPS revival/boomer shooter trend to the point that it's just annoying to play and the story is a bunch of pretentious unfocused horseshit made even worse by the DLC.

gunplay was atrocious, made even worse by a two gun limit, enemy AI just fricking stood still except to take a single (the exact same animation on everyone) step to the right, tonics were dogshit and almost never worth using, and christ that rehashed ghost chick fight was unbearable the first time and then they drag it back out again
i've played shit games for a good story but this was a shit game with a shit story, i should have dropped it five minutes in but noooo, i had to see if the ending really was as awful as people claimed (it was)

I'm usually pretty quick to drop games if they're bad. I might say Zelda TOTK? It's a game that retroactively made BOTW worse that I basically kept playing out of boredom and spite and genuinely hated by the end.

On a related note: Zelda lore unironically makes me fricking seethe. Shit like selling a game as the start of the series, then having it just be based on more ancients or completely unheard of shit like Demise being a demon from nowhere. Or having everything be based on a curse which effectively means Ganon instead of being a cool reincarnatnig butthole, is just a puppet to some one game nobody no one gives a shit about. That's Star Wars Midichlorians levels of moronic.

It's hard to express just how much wasted potential for stories they have on hand and I have no idea if it's laziness or incompetence or both. I am convinced they wheel out their timeline lore bullshit as an internal joke and laugh behind their back at their moronic fans who think they put any effort in at all into making plots even within a game consistent.
Like frick, how much random pointless inconsistencies were made just between BOTW and TOTK? Playing TOTK you could be forgiven for thinking it's not even a sequel to BOTW because it barely references its events and lots of things just change with no explanation. Those games are direct fricking sequels and they're not consistent. Why would any of the greater lore be?
I like to compare Zelda characters to Mario. Miyamoto is on record saying they're really seen like a troupe of actors. There's no greater lore, they play the roles they need to, which is why things change game to game, no problem.
Tellingly there is literally no difference in how the Zelda characters are treated. Because the idea of them being any different is a joke.

ganon was always a puppet of aghanim who was the true evil in the series

          >. I am convinced they wheel out their timeline lore bullshit as an internal joke and laugh behind their back at their moronic fans who think they put any effort in at all
as far as i remember they never wanted to put all the games into a timeline, it was autistic fans that wanted a clear answer that pushed them to make shit up.
i would have been fine with every game being on its own except when it directly references being a sequel or prequel to another one

            Anonymous

This is not true. Before BOTW every single mainline Zelda game contained explicit ties to another game as a prequel or sequel. The timeline developed naturally due to this and was not "created" at all.

Yeah honestly Metroid is pretty bad. The fact that you could move left was really cool, but other than that it's really not a good game in the same way the original kid Icarus and ice aren't very good. But Metroid had the whole navigating a giant nap which also reuses layouts in different rooms and has a bunch of invisible paths which just makes it miserable to progress. Music is nice though, I particularly like kraid's theme.

Coincidentally, it'd probably be The Simpsons Skateboarding if it wasn't for THAT FRICKING SHEEP HERDING GOAL in the last level, with a time limit the length of ManlyTears' wiener on a winter day. I beat every single goal other than that.
Besides that, I think it might be THPS5. I don't remember if I truly "beat it" or not, but I do know I unlocked all the levels and did most of the goals, definitely enough to unlock the next level if there was one. Thanks to its weird-ass wannabe MMO structure, IIRC it doesn't have a proper ending screen or pull up the credits roll at any time (unless you do it yourself from the options menu), etc. But I might just be blocking out my traumatic memories of the game.
Despite how shit both games are, I still kept playing them because there's still enough of the basics of a THPS-like extreme sports game there to scratch my itch, and I can only replay the good XSGs so many times. The feeling of playing a new game in your favorite sub-sub-subgenre is magical, even if it's a shit game.

I feel like the game isn't as good as the first one. I hate the new addition of the bike and bike segments, the stages don't feel as fun as they did in the first game (there's only 1-2 I would actually want to replay), the antagonist group is fricking moronic (The entire story is fricked) and one of the new characters is some very annoying black chick that refuses to shut the hell up.
The songs aren't very memorable imo. The best songs comes during the middle of the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUBC4GRp-HA

10 years wait for Early Access garbage with a one button combat system

The game is really good whith the hard mode mod on PC. It got a lot more content now that it's finished and the combat system forces you to actually play optimally like using different combos with directional attack variations and pause finishers in combination for scouting out weapon & elemental weaknesses. You just gotta play the open world like Red Dead where you take your sweet time with the christian rock band and it's an easy 9/10 for me.

        >The game is really good whith the hard mode mod on PC
not re-buying the PC port for an alleged "this game is now hard" mode

        > like using different combos with directional attack variations and pause finishers in combination for scouting out weapon & elemental weaknesses
the game is still a joke that you never need to use this crap

        >You just gotta play the open world like Red Dead

          >the game is still a joke that you never need to use this crap

you never NEED to use anything in a video game, you can just beat Bayonetta on easy with autocombos too if you want to. My point is that the hard mode mod makes you actually WANT to use everything the system has to offer. Because otherwise it becomes a huge slog if you just hold one button since the enemies deal way more damage, have way more health and you can only carry 15 of each item max.

          >not re-buying the PC port for an alleged "this game is now hard" mode
If you don't want to buy it again then just fitgirl it lmao.

          >never played Red Dead
The point is that the open world is not a content feeding machine like in Yakuza but more like a huge painting to admire. You should just take your time and smoke a blunt or whatever in order to just chill and enjoy the animations and characters.

          >the 4th DLC is still Hold O to win
who cares, it's like 2 hours and you're not forced to play it. Even Episode Ignis is still trivial even with the hard mode mod, but it's still a great addition to the story.

            Anonymous

            >but it's still a great addition to the story.

that gets ruined anyway thanks to Episode Ardyn and Dawn to the Future existing

            >since the enemies deal way more damage, have way more health
so hard mode mod is one of those lazy "we put a multiplier to the stats of the enemies and called it a day" mods

Not counting total shovelware that I beat when I was in like elementary school (It would have to be the Our House DS game which was bad even by shovelware standards), I'd say Super Monkey Ball 3D. Absolutely zero challenge and atrocious level design in the main game while the mini games are barely functional.

Dragon Quest 2 is a pretty close second, The first one is even less polished but it's charming and relatively short, the second one was just miserable and repetitive.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, and that Vita katamari game were also... not bad, but extremely underwhelming. Moreso 'disappointing', I guess.

Games so bad I dropped them:
Brutal Legend - I really really wanted this game to be fun. I love the soundtrack, all the cameos of rock stars. Any game with Lemmy in it can't be bad, so I thought. You go in thinking the game is a hack and slash, but it's actually more of a lame RTS about 3 hours in. Not fun, dropped.
Hatred - Postal but bad. My game is not important. It didn't need to be in black and white, it's just mediocre to play.
Possessed - Unoptimised indie jank. I did enjoy my time with it, but I couldn't beat it. Check it out. There's a kick which is always fun.
Sonic Adventure 2 - Music and story, I like. Gameplay? Terrible. FRICK those emerald finding levels. People say it's great just because the played it when they were young.
      Rainbow Six Vegas 2

I've yet to play these "bad" games:
      Deadly Premonition
      Blue Estate The Game
FEAR 3 (Need to convince a friend to play coop)

      Any so-bad-its-good recommendations?

That game is a mix between a typical COD game and Doom (2016), and it would've been better going one way or the other. It was good.

Animorphs GBC, the game is split into 4 chapters. The first 2 can become hard as frick right out of nowhere. By the time you get to chapter 3 the game's basically unplayable. Here's what makes the 'good' parts of the game a slog:
    >Pokemon style combat without type effectiveness or attack types even spelled out
    >hard as frick difficulty right the frick out of nowhere
    >lose all your morphs (lose your entire Pokemon party) and need to catch a brand-new party at the top of each chapter
    >badly programmed side scrolling mini-games that will Game Over your ass.
    >JRPG with password save on the GBC

KNUCKLE SANDWICH. BY GOD I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN ACTUAL YIIKLIKE BUT THIS IS FRICKING CLOSE ENOUGH
    >NONEXISTENT PLOT
    >CHARACTERS THAT DO NOTHING AND EXIST SO THERE IS DIALOGUE BETWEEN IMPORTANT CHARACTERS BECAUSE Le WaCkY sILeNt MaIn ChArAcTeR!!!1
    >COMBAT THAT DRAGS ON FOR SO LONG BECAUSE YOUR NORMAL ATTACKS FRICKING SUCK AND TAKE ACTUALLY 30 SECONDS OF PUSHING A BUTTON AT THE RIGHT MOMENT REPEATEDLY IF YOU WANT TO DO ANY AMOUNT OF DAMAGE
    >STUPID MICROGAMES THAT TAKE WAY TOO LONG BUT ARE THE ONLY RELIABLE SOURCE OF DAMAGE
the music is pretty good but ITS FRICKING WASTED ON THIS GAME!!! HOW DO YOU TAKE ~SIX YEARS TO MAKE A GAME AND NOT REALIZE IN TESTING THAT "hey this kinda fricking sucks!" BUT I GUESS THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE AN IRONY-POISONED HIPSTER AUSSIE c**t WHO HATES RPGS BUT WANTS TO MAKE AN RPG THAT'S "DIFFERENT" FROM THE OTHERS, SISTER GET IN FRICKING LINE! YOU AIN'T SPECIAL, YOU AIN'T FUNNY, AND YOUR DRAGON BALL REFERENCES CAN'T SAVE THIS GAME

Picrel, probably. I don’t finish a lot of games I’d consider “bad”, and I don’t entirely hate this game either, but I sure as hell don’t want to go back to it any time soon.

I usually just outright drop games I didn't enjoy playing, so they're not that memorable.
The only one I can think of is either Yakuza 3 (annoying combat) or Yakuza 5 (I hated playing through Shinada's part, he's stupid filler character)

Syndicate: not THAT bad but it's so basic and boring and yes the bloom is worse than you remember.
Ac origins:feels like a psy op when people say they think this is good, nothing but visuals a good quality, the gameplay sucks and story is notably SBI style trash.
Fable3:I'm not sure what they were thinking but that follow the orb thing was a fever dream of shit design, wish it was decent but it's just bad.
Farcry1:nostalgia and tech are the only saving graces and by the second half those evaporate.
Fire watch: the message is fricked because that b***h was hiding a child's death, that's the opposite of nothing happening.
Avp2010:it feels incredibly stiff compared to it's predecessors
Turok: you know the one, this is a genuinely bad game, DNR.

Not actually bad I know but I don't play shit games, but I don't get the love for DQ VIII.
The cast is ass, the cheese gimmick is shit, everything has Disruptive Wave, and the final boss pray gimmick is just a crappy excuse for a gear/level check.

Transformers Rise Of the Dark Spark

After High moon was bought and split/destroyed by activision, another company came in and re-used the game assets to make a shitty Tie-In movie game with the Micheal Bay film (the 4th one specifically, not one of the good ones)
The best part is, the entire game that isnt on Cybertron (assets the studio had to make and not re use) looks notable worse.

They also Never play tested thier game or didnt care to fix some obviously brokenthings, like Optimus Primes Sheild +Ability that lets him just negate all damage including in the final boss fight

Im a huge transformers fan and I am in constant pain, there seems to only ever be a handful of Good content

Silent Hill 3, I know people love it but I just hate everything about it, the enemies are a bunch of senseless meatballs that take too much damage but are incredible easy, the puzzles are some broken shit that the translation fricked up and way more focus on combat while being a fricking survival horror. also frick the subway.

a good tie between megaman x7 and dmc2

      Paper Mario Sticker Star
      MegaMan Battle Network 4
      Mega Man X7
The latter two were at least entertaining due to how bad they were, Sticker Star was genuine rancid dogshit and I wish I could get back the hours I wasted playing that game.

      Mega Man X7

Its as bad as they say, and so much more. There are some bad games I'm willing to give another try, but not that one. That was one and done. Never again. I only finished it because I love Mega Man X.

I almost forgot that I finished MMX7. it was probably the most awkward gaming I had, that bike section almost gave me cancer

oh yes, Duke Nukem Time To Kill, is the worst, it was a fricking snorefest and the final levels had annoying flying enemies I think. I don't remember much as the last thing I did was speedrun the shirt out of the ending and ignoring all enemies and then fought the final boss, which is impossible unless you bug him out and unload your whole arsenal on his forehead, it bugs out all the time.

I remember the worst thing I ever finished for some masochistic reason: Bojack Horseman... jesus fricking christ. Why did I have to sit through all of that? Why didn't I realize that it was gonna be leftist turbogarbage from the very first episode? Why didn't I pick up on the fact that no, these talking LGBT animals are NOT going to eventually do something funny or edgy or clever, they're just gonna walk around LA doing homosexual bullshit and being depressed?

Recently Wolfenstein 2. Such a tonal whiplash left and right and levels while nice looking are not ideal to sneak around in. Super Soldiers notice you right away compared to the other two games and control is taken away multiple times from the player. That whole prison and beheading process takes 10 minutes away from you.
