Valves do feel shitty and like useless filler. But why do elevators feel so much more natural? They're both just loading screens and I know it.

          >But why do elevators feel so much more natural? They're both just loading screens and I know it.
Because you're usually getting shot at on your way to the elevator, so it feels more like a resting place than a loading screen

          Valves are roadblocks
          Elevators are new starting lines.

          Anonymous

Valves are usually dumb QTE or hold-button-down moments. At least with an elevator I go in, and either it automates the door closing, or I just hit a single button.

          Anonymous

You can't hop around like a lunatic and crash to the floor over and over while turning a valve. You have to stand there facing the wall and hold the button while the door opens at 2cm/sec

remakes/remasters are a cancer to videogames

Port, not remake/remaster. They SHOULD copy+paste the game. And they SHOULD have done that for Dead Space 1 and 2 too.
But to your point, this is EA so they'll probably just """remaster""" it using Mirror's Edge 2 like they do their other games.

Imagine remastering a game that is already visually perfect

A remaster of Mirror's Edge would be awful imo.
I feel like almost all (if not all) remasters are worse than the original. It makes me wonder why they invest all that time and money and energy into remasters when you could just re-release the games onto modern consoles with some sort of upscaling and extra customization with control button assignments. Would make them more money in the long term I'm sure.

the story/cutscenes in mirrors edge are pretty cringe tbh. faith and celeste are monotone badasses and merc/jackknife/ropeburn/miller are all jobbers. if it came out today it would be considered another cringe girl power fantasy. still one of my favorite games ever tho because all of the cut scenes can be skipped without losing anything.

        Anonymous

I like the cutscenes and story. It's just enough to give you a rest for a minute or two between gameplay sections and tell you "why" without going overboard with tons of unnecessary details. That's all story needs to be in a game.

Mirror's Edge was the last bigger title that I really enjoyed. It felt like it had all the good stuff from previous gens and showed what games should've been like in the future.

        >faith and celeste are monotone badasses and merc/jackknife/ropeburn/miller are all jobbers. if it came out today it would be considered another cringe girl power fantasy.
Faith's sister isn't much of a badass. Miller ends up being a bit of a badass when he shoots the PK soldiers. It feels like you're just looking for things to be upset about.

A lot of it is ruined by English voice acting. Faith keeps switching between deer-in-headlights brooding and cringy wannabe action hero. Polish VO is much better and more consistent, if a bit stiff sometimes. It's actually the same thing with DS remake too.

Why did they do it? The ninja cops are the best enemies in the game but they appear near the end and the rest is just cops shooting at you and garbage FPS mechanics.
The entire game should be ninja cops chasing you and it would be considerably more fun.

The game doesn't force you to fight except for Celeste and the end. Just run past them moron.

I had that mentality until the factory level, then I realized the game prefers you to fight them when they put you in rooms that are hard to escape from without getting shot to shit.

It's fun if you use the special moves like the slide or jump kick to take them down faster. Or just get close and use the slowmo to grab their weapon. After that you can just shoot the next one then grab their gun until they're all down. It takes a little while to get used to the combat since you don't get a ton of time to practice but after a couple playthroughs I enjoy it.

Same. I end up getting a lot of hours of enjoyment even though they're short because they can be really fun to replay. There haven't been many games I've really enjoyed that have more than 10 hours or so of content because they're usually packed with filler or cutscenes.

my favorite thing is the pure elegant gameplay. no annoying ui, you can turn off the visual hints, no levels, no skills trees, no map or minimap, you just do what a runner does. i just wish the levels were longer, right you when really feeling the momentum it's over.
