Nah. It's pretty barren and boring. Ubi tower clone games work when they have a ton of systems and reactive worlds in it like Ubisoft puts in their games. Assassin's Creed is an incredibly gameplay driven game with lots of systems at play that make it fun to take in all the world building they do. There are problems when there's too much stuff going on like AC Valhalla and sometimes the world is too bland like AC 3. But those games live and die on highly systemic and reactive gameplay. Breath Of The Wild was a Ubitower game but had so much gameplay depth to it that it beat the allegations.
Horizon has pretty graphics. And that's it. Everything that's in it was done already in AC, Monster Hunter and Witcher. And why play Horizon when you can just load up Black Flag again?
Unlike those games Horizon has 50 enemy types instead of 5 and has far less bloat. It has 5 ubisoft towers per game, not 50 for example. Gameplay is also actually fun and challenging even against common enemies due to shooting fundamentals and lack of aim assist. All the games you mentioned(except Zelda I think?) has forced ''walking'' segments unlike Horizon. Only cinematic part of Horizon is cutscenes and dialogue options which you can skip. Game never slows your movement down even during walking/talking parts or when you enter a settlement and you are always in full control of your character from start to finish. Valhalla's horse reached to a halting speed whenever random animal decided to aggro to you and Eivor's speed was slower in Raventhorpe. It's not ''cinematic'' at all. I think that's why Sony fans don't like it.

The game is easy unless you play it on harder difficulties. I basically play everything on very hard the first time then ultra hard for completion. Forbidden west has a much better ultra hard because it doesn't increase the scrap cost of everything like the first game does but without the legendary weapons you get from NG+ it's kind of a slog as the strongest monsters have insane stats.
I enjoy combat and the backstory of the game that you get more than the actual story because it's not particularly complex or gripping unless sylens is there there shit talk aloy. Like it's a fine story but the lack of moral complexity making aloy right at every turn is a mistake. Two issues I can't get past, one was making every location as multicultural as modern day. I don't have an issue with any race or ethnicity but it's supposed to take place a 1000 years into the future. They didn't just limit certain races because they wanted all the issues to be cultural. Which on the surface makes sense to some extent but it's scientifically nonsense. If you have every location with every race, you'll just end up with one race with a huge variation of phenotypes. The only way that wouldn't happen would be with aggressive segregation. Which is clearly not a thing. Which they wouldn't have ever done because then the nature of Aloy being a white savior would be prominent. The next is the fact that Aloy is a white savior. It's less noticeable in other games because they usually only save white people but in a game this culturally diverse and every other character regardless of race bowing down to her except sylen's (the best character in the game) I think it's a 7.8 series. It's fine, I enjoyed it. It's good but flawed. Her looks don't really matter to me.
I also can't get into the flaws without people getting mad that I'm pointing out the eugenics issues.

I steered clear of this series because of the critic reception and having just given it a chance, it's making me question everything. Theyre legitimately really really good with a few minor negatives like Aloy talking too much. Just finished TOTK before starting this and the combat is night and day. Shooting off the parts and guns and inflicting elemental weaknesses feels about 10000x better than mashing the swing button until the weapon breaks over and over again.
Forbidden West has the Shredders which is my favorite weapon in any game. I like the spear chuckers but I don't feel it's remotely as good. The games mechanics definitely prioritizes each type of weapon and traps are actually pretty good.
They are good games anon. They might not be the most original games out there but they are good at what they are doing. If you liked Zero Dawn's gameplay you will like Forbidden West even more imo. Even when it might seem more overwhelming with many weapons and armor to choose from and many more parts to take off from machines. Forbidden West also has glider which is a nice addition, you can't use it as a shield sadly.
Yea I finished the first one and just started the 2nd one. Huge upgrade from the 1st imo. I'm maybe about 20 hours in. The only thing that feels weaker to me is the story because the hook of "what happened in the past" isn't there to string you along anymore. I steered clear of this series because of the critic reception and having just given it a chance, it's making me question everything. Theyre legitimately really really good with a few minor negatives like Aloy talking too much. Just finished TOTK before starting this and the combat is night and day. Shooting off the parts and guns and inflicting elemental weaknesses feels about 10000x better than mashing the swing button until the weapon breaks over and over again.
Forbidden West has the Shredders which is my favorite weapon in any game. I like the spear chuckers but I don't feel it's remotely as good. The games mechanics definitely prioritizes each type of weapon and traps are actually pretty good.
They are good games anon. They might not be the most original games out there but they are good at what they are doing. If you liked Zero Dawn's gameplay you will like Forbidden West even more imo. Even when it might seem more overwhelming with many weapons and armor to choose from and many more parts to take off from machines. Forbidden West also has glider which is a nice addition, you can't use it as a shield sadly.
Yea I finished the first one and just started the 2nd one. Huge upgrade from the 1st imo. I'm maybe about 20 hours in. The only thing that feels weaker to me is the story because the hook of "what happened in the past" isn't there to string you along anymore. Gameplay-wise it's a massive upgrade, especially as im apparently the only person that uses the spear/melee build in these games. Ive read that the melee still isn't good enough and I feel like I'm playing a different game because I'm carving through everything smaller than a thunderjaw/behemoth on Ultra Hard with it.
