It's weird. SE is a videogame company primarily. But in the last financial report, its publications and merchandise segments made more profit than mmo, hdgames, and gacha combined (2.1+1.2bn yen vs 2.7bn yen).
Unfortunately people like to underestimate how well the Merch and publications do. Which is entirely artists like Nomura and Nomura himself will always have more value to companies like Square than people like Yoshi-p.

But people are wary about that shit since FFXIII which I know a ton of people bought a PS3 for. Yoshi is irreplaceable at the moment.

Yoshi is split into two camps: 1.) XIV players and 2.) Non-XIV (non-MMO players
1.) likes him a lot, were the majority of positive pre-release XVI talk. Cooled on him significantly after XVI release. Now they are largely silent/some also say he was arrogant and wrong with XVI as well.
2.) dislikes him a lot. Why/how is too complicated/ there are too many different types of this group.
2 is obviously a bigger group since less people play MMOs than JRPGs.
Nomura has mixed feedback in various ways. Some say he is still a God-tier artist, others say he is a washed-up grandpa trying to be young. Some like his story-lines, others say he is moronic. Hard to parse which is more prevalent than the other here (Rebirth release will give us better feedback on Nomura tbh.) I haven't checked Rebirth threads for a while.

I bought a PS5 just for xvi and it was a huge disappointment.

The game has some cool set pieces and most of the boss fights are pretty fun... simplicity aside. But I can't really recommend playing the game to get to those parts, because after awhile playing the game becomes a chore. I just wanted to be done with this game. I liked the demo and the game seemed like it had potential, but it falls flat story wise really early on. And the gameplay is quite shallow in the long run. The game is very flashy with little substance. I did all the hunts and all the sidequests and the payoffs are not worth it. If you must play the game, skip all dialogue and sidequests and only do fights that are mandatory.

Im sure 16 is a solid game but ps5 only and it only being mid in scope doesn't help. E.g persona 5 is turbo long. Ff16 isn't even open world and seems to be barely 20-25 hours. Ff was bang for ur buck as a kid. Tons of mini games side quests end game dungeons bosses etc. Would easily get near 80 hours in any other FF if it was my first time.
