I thought this "Age of Sigmar" shit was just an in-game scenario thing, a bit of weird storytelling to explain/sell a bunch of new models for established armies.
I didn't think it was an entirely new setting.
Frick, this looks abysmal. Who is this for? Who wanted this generic downgrade? did the company hire a fanfic writer to lead something? World of Warcraft did that! It's a mistake!
Today is arse!

Fantasy wasn't selling and they wanted more distinct names and art direction so they could defend their copyright in court. That's why all the armies are either made up solely of the most distinct unit in their previous faction, like slayers or squigs, or just the old faction with a really specific gimmick added, like sea elves and cow elves.
That's probably why cities of sigmar is a huge departure from heroic scale pseudo-historicals into very distinctly fantasy minis.

The fact that people are/can/do game with stuff they already own, and therefore are not putting new money into the corp's pocket, is what forces companies into powercreep and other anti-player policies.

To over-clarify, the game and the product are two different but related things.
Players will be interested in the game, and might buy product as a result, which is healthy game/healthy product.
The problem with mass army games is that players can buy the spine of one army and stay interested in the game, but never need to bulk purchase a full army again, justr trickle the occasional update buy to stay game-legal - a healthy game/dead product.

What fricking rock, nay, goddamn boulder have you been living under for the past eight years?
Yeah exactly, it actually makes sense for black humans to be in the army, the setting is dogshit trash but at least it has consistency in that.
It’s crazy though, even if you have a lore reason explanation it still just looks wrong and makes me think of American politics when I see blacks in Western European armor. If you want a cool bold integrated faction but not an ooga booga tribal one, make a cool Muslim faction, they actually had lots of black soldiers in North African Muslim armies, like the fatimid caliphate
I'm going to buy a (second-hand) Alchemite Warforger and convert it into a chef. Remove and AoS specific stuff, replace that staff with a spoon-staff, that head with a normal head with a chefs hat, and replace that smoke line with a bubbling pile of chilli con carne.
What's with all the random garbage on the armor? It doesn't look ornate so much as haphazardly glued on by a designer who had no idea what they were doing.
Skeleton on a palanquin is cool, but it just feels like a ripoff of lizzies and Kroak.
Gorgeous models, best I’ve seen for AoS. Good balance of detail, good themeing, nice variety while keeping things similar enough so it doesn’t look like a hodge podge. 8/10 imo
>top tier, will buy
Arch-knight, gargoyle mascot, soul shepherd >cool minis, but not striking enough for me
Freeguild marshal, war surgeon >inoffensive, meh
Surgeon, herald, whisperblade, chef guy >I don't like it
Cannon and pontifex
Yeah idgaf about AoS, but these look like a great way to make feudal guard or Inquisition retinues. They'll still require a lot of scrapping and chopping to get rid of the nonsensical greebles.
>The peoples of Aqshy are aggressive, competitive, passionate and courageous. Life is lived in the moment, love or lust are aggressively pursued and emotions run hot. Home to many tribal peoples, trials of combat or strength are well loved.
I like what they came up with, especially the heroes, but I still like the landsknecht aesthetics more. Two things I dislike: Previous art and conversions had an aesthetic of either old empire mixed with stormcast or simply a very storm casty aesthetic, which I actually liked on normal humans. A lot of gold, comets, lightnings etc. and the blue/gold palette worked pretty well on them imho. I feel like GW went with generic modern video game humans to play it safe.
And what I don't get is why we need all these butt ugly abominations of faces for our basic humans. Didn't work for guard in 40gay and doesn't work here. And as usual the color palette is fricking awful.
These models feel almost like they're trying to be fantasy post-apocalyptic, which is a really fricking weird direction when everything else in AOS is so shiny and clean. I get that they didn't want direction comparisons to the Empire like would bring and it's an interesting direction I suppose, but one I don't really feel is supported by the lore of the Cities. Plus I don't like how weirdly angular and scrapped together everything looks. The cannon wouldn't look out of place in an ork army and the diamond shaped crests on everything look just plain ugly.
Anon AoS is a setting that’s survived two apocalypses it’s literally a post-post-apocalyptic fantasy setting. 95% of the realms are chaos infested shitholes populated by monsters, monstrous animals, and chaos worshippers.

>so far removed from the apocalypse that only the barest shred of the pre-apoc cultures remains.
Literally every faction has to directly address the fact that chaos won at the end of the age of myth. The currency across the realms is phials of magic water that can either be drank or used to purify the wilds of chaos taint so you can either drink fresh water, grow plants, or eat plants. You can’t even operate without this and every part of the wilds is a death world on crack what are you talking about? The Lumineth are literally defined by their own personal apocalypse and are a direct product of it
Literally the only shiny things in AoS are Elves and Stormcast. Anyway, I like the new design, but I never liked the HRE copycat style of old Empire figures so that's not surprising.
They look post apocalyptic because they're frontier pioneers. The Dawnbringer Crusades are expeditions sent into the chaos held ruins of the mortal ruins to return civilization to it.
So yeah, the look fits. They're isolated, short on supplies and marching into the unknown.
Your take is reasonable and I respect it. And as you say, the Eavy Metal paint scheme is dogshit but they always are. I'll withold final judgment until I see anons' paint schemes on the models.
>thought the skeleton was an alternate build for the palanquin >turns out the nogress is mandatory

wokeness is always the same. they habe like zero variety in their designs
Potentially neat model ruined by the extraneous nonsense like the dangling chains and ornate trimming
I wonder if it can be feasibly built without the shield
>I wonder if it can be feasibly built without the shield
I think it would take, at most, refacing the front of the gun carriage. The front of the long beams and the cross beam will end up empty, but slapping Plasticard or something there instead is Ork tier easy kitbashing.
REMINDER:
Headswopping this model (and posting your painted version online) will draw the ire of virtue signallers who will ask. >Why did you change the head? >Any reason you swopped out the POC head? >why did you swop out her head? That says a lot about you
I have to say, anytime I see someone paint their "black" model white online, like the new store anniversary commissar or that old sigmar priest, I go to the comments section expecting to see even one comment like those you posted but I have never seen it happen.
REMINDER:

lmao
The funny thing is all the grognard will just paint them white and kitbash the women heads out for helmets or women's heads. So I don't give a shit about GW pandering as it's no effecting the product as their product comes extremely customizable.
This
It's not videogames, you are not being forced to interact with unlikeable sheboons
All your problems can be fixed with a paintjob and a headswap
You going to show up to a tournament with your whitewashed models bigot?
No matter your cope, if you buy this shit you are saying to the company, not only do you not mind it but you like it and they should do it more. The only ones this doesnt bother is people that havent experienced the fatigue in real life.
Wow you showed up to a tourny with your we wuz kangz free guilds with them all head swapped or painted white? Thats impressive.
But I do support this.
I mean your a homosexual so thats expected. Advocate for your own race in everything because no one else will, every other race does the same and hates yours no matter what you do to appease them.
Cause Aqshy has been the "main character" location since forever and GW thought easiest way to show off the fire wind version of Earth is spamming either hot climat or vulcanic one, so you have a lot of Africa, Meditorenia, Iceland and Mordor + shit like sea with so much sulfur in it humans can't swim in it
You know why.
And it’s not what this homosexual said.
Cause Aqshy has been the "main character" location since forever and GW thought easiest way to show off the fire wind version of Earth is spamming either hot climat or vulcanic one, so you have a lot of Africa, Meditorenia, Iceland and Mordor + shit like sea with so much sulfur in it humans can't swim in it
This is why, I don't like AOS, among a lot of other things, it has Blacks for no indispensable reasons. I would be find if there was an ancient African inspired warhammer faction, based on old African tribes. But no it's just inclusive diversity California crap.
It made sense when the old world was created by lizard people and other races emerged organically in the mists of time, kinda like on earth.
But the mortal realms are bits of material floating in magic. The races were populated by memory of the old world by Sigmar and his boys. Sigmar was/is white, his people were white, the Empire that worshipped him was white ( with some Italian analogue) and his only frame of reference for black people would have been some turbo racist tribesmen miniatures GW produced, or villainous chaos southlander arab analogues.
It could have been Black and Ching-Chong free, and they inexplicably decided to include them for no raisin (in lore)
We know why they are there IRL, but there is no versimillitude with London knife appreciators in mediaeval-ish armour
The mascot thingie looks decent for a heraldic fantasy goober some nobleman has hanging around.

Mf giraffe.
>Wizards have determined what humanity will look like after the End Times, and it's beautiful
REMINDER:
Headswopping this model (and posting your painted version online) will draw the ire of virtue signallers who will ask.
>Why did you change the head?
>Any reason you swopped out the POC head?
>why did you swop out her head? That says a lot about you
I hate what they have done to my hobby.
Nobody will ask you that because nobody cares
I have to say, anytime I see someone paint their "black" model white online, like the new store anniversary commissar or that old sigmar priest, I go to the comments section expecting to see even one comment like those you posted but I have never seen it happen.
I'd just say I hate Black folk and be done with it
this is legitimately a racist caricature
my answer would be the above
What I'm getting from this is I have to take my best looking greatsword and turn him into a bodyguard, and scrap the rest.
...anybody know how to salvage painted models?
Final update of the cursed image.
>decide to make warhammer more inclusive
>the only way to distinguish the small differences in facial structure of different human races on such a small scale is to exaggerate them
>make unironic racist caricature by mistake
lmao
The funny thing is all the grognard will just paint them white and kitbash the women heads out for helmets or women's heads. So I don't give a shit about GW pandering as it's no effecting the product as their product comes extremely customizable.
>n-n-n-n-no p-p-p-p-p-p-please buy our fat blobby mutt models!
>w-w-w-w-we're still b-b-b-b-b-based, I p-p-p-p-p-p-promise!
Nice try, James
This
It's not videogames, you are not being forced to interact with unlikeable sheboons
>You going to show up to a tournament with your whitewashed models bigot?
Yes
Already did
Nobody said a single word
Wow you showed up to a tourny with your we wuz kangz free guilds with them all head swapped or painted white? Thats impressive.
I mean your a homosexual so thats expected. Advocate for your own race in everything because no one else will, every other race does the same and hates yours no matter what you do to appease them.
But I do support this.
>You going to show up to a tournament with your whitewashed models bigot?
Anon stop projecting you obsession with race onto other people, literally nobody cares what your miniatures arr painted or what parts are used.
>grognard
>playing AoS at all
LawL
Oh I am keeping the female and the elf heads.
I'm glad GW is fulfilling their nig quota in age of sigmar. This way, the old world won't have any. Thanks for taking one for the team, fellas.
wouldnt that shield break if you fired the cannon?
why are there so many Black folks?
Cause Aqshy has been the "main character" location since forever and GW thought easiest way to show off the fire wind version of Earth is spamming either hot climat or vulcanic one, so you have a lot of Africa, Meditorenia, Iceland and Mordor + shit like sea with so much sulfur in it humans can't swim in it
You know why.
And it’s not what this homosexual said.
When did the empire become all blacks and women?
Unironically mass immigration and refugee resettlement. It's the theme of the current edition.
Holy frick, the absolute state of GW. Keep making models for womyn and groids, then wonder why they don't sell to your 99% white male customers.
They included white people for no reason but now it’s a problem when they do it for black people
Lazy autism is the worst autism
thats cute
Ahem
Why didn't we see this model
what do you most want to see? the black and female crew or the black female commander?
Bubba the fat homie
