I hate this kind of writing. They write a vague story and expect you to watch 12 hours of youtube videos to understand what's going on instead of just writing a simple video game story

who the frick plays Hollow Knight for the story
Midwits
Are you sure you're not just an idiot who can't follow a simple story?
In HK you find some stone with words like "this is the ancient tomb of the mystery king". And then some moron on
YouTube uploads a 3 hour video about the mystery king being the most epic and deep video game character in history
>back in the old days games could have a little bit of throwaway lore like this that just add flavor to the world and have no further meaning
>now people expect everything to be connected and have DEEP MEANING
blame Fromdrones
This only became a thing when millennials with too much free time started getting into video games. What a sad meaningless generation
I much prefer that to something like Blasphemous with its Zanzibart bullshit, non-stop nonsense about characters and places you'll never meet with epic item descriptions
>non-stop nonsense about characters and places you'll never meet with epic item descriptions
Literally should be a criminal offense to place this horseshit in a game.
Blame elder scrolls for popularizing this garbage.
Elden ring was the point where i was officially sick of the style. Hope silksong has a different approach because yeah its shit and lazy.
You're confusing multiple unreliable narrators vs one narrator with late stage dementia
I liked it. It's the Fromsoftware format, except some characters are capable of having endings with a little more variety than abruptly dying offscreen.
I understood the story without watching videos, because I paid attention to what the frick was going on and what was being said. And I fricking have adhd.
Skill issue.
You are just dumb.
it works because the story is secondary to the gameplay, you can ignore it and enjoy it if you really dont care
>start game
>skip all cutscenes
>never ready anything other than gameplay tips
>beat the game
>say the story is shit
Yeah I didn't like it either, even worse if you don't play it all in one sitting because you can forget offhand comments that aren't repeated that end up being important. There's stuff about wearing different charms to speak to different people for bonus lore as well which isn't super intuitive and not fun to test out
I imagine most people who say they understood it have looked at a synopsis at the very least because otherwise how would you know you were right, the game is vague enough that any bullshit you could come up with is possible
This may be correct for From games, but as long as you explore and read all the info/dialogue you get, Hollow Knight's story becomes perfectly clear without any external sources, at least all the actually important bits.
As always OP is a homosexual
I started playing HK and after 12 hours all I understood from the "story" is that you have to rescue some worms and explore an ancient kingdom. Everything the npcs say is TLDR to me
>They write a vague story
All of the NPC's you meet in the game tell you whats going on.
Super Metroid's story was 100% clear with basically no text. You understand everything with just moving around completing the objectives. This is true video game writing
super metroid was true ludokino
Same thing with LoZ, none of the in-game text actually adds to the story, it's all presented in the scrolling text on the title screen. You playing is the story.
>hollow knight
>vague story
What is it about this game in particular that causes people who have never played it to try and criticize it?
See
>Everything the NPCs say is TLDR to me
There exists people who think the extremely short dialogue in Hollow Knight that happens once per hour is already too hard for them to read
The twitter generation, if you will
>silksong not on ps4/5
dropped. frick team cherry. you've made an enemy of me
Feels good to see Sony get what they deserve. Frick California.
Thanks, i was about to pick up the original on PSN. Knowing the sequel isn't getting released on PlayStation i won't bother now.
>zanzibug....forgive me..!
Who the frick is zanzibug?
HK's main story isn't that complicated.
>pale king takes radiance's followers away and gives them and the subjects in his kingdom individual higher intelligence
>long time passes and the radiance starts infesting the minds and dreams of the pale king's subjects, thus the infection
>pale king fricks the tree god A LOT to make the (what should be empty) Hollow Knight vessel
>seals it and puts the infection in it, has the three dreamers keep the seal
>hollow knight wasn't pure empty so it gets infected too and the infection spreads throughout the kingdom once again
>kingdom falling, pale king fricks off to his hidden palace
>the player knight who was one of the offspring of the pale king and tree comes to hollownest to start the events of the game
That's it, and you still don't even have to know every one of those things to understand the overall story. It's not too hard to piece together the events of the game. Of course, there's a lot more smaller stuff about the world too, but that's not the main story. I'd rather have a vague story to piece together with a solid amount of lore than something simple just because I'm too moronic to piece things together.
Everything you posted was wrong.
>people actually get filtered by hollow knight story
it's by far the most coherent and understandable story out of all the ones i've seen in a game with similar huge scope and ambition. Nearly every major part of the plot and relevant side character is mostly understandable with a clear purpose. If you pay proper attention, read at all, and optionally take a few notes during your first playthrough, you can understand everything pretty coherently in one-two playthroughs of it.
Nobody is asking you to watch Youtube videos.
He's a zoomer. They need a millennial to explain basic shit.
