Ender Lilies did a great job with fast travel with the ability to return to respite and respites having fast travel. I know Hollow Knight wanted you to walk around instead of just warping everywhere but a few more stag stations or something that bridged you to existing stag stations would have been a great improvement. Sometimes you got to walk across two or three biomes just to get to the nearest station.
I remember when Metroid Dread came out and that one hyper autist HKhater kept trying to false flag Metroid fans into hating Hollow Knight without realizing the Venn diagram between Hollow Knight fan and Metroid fans is basically a circle.
I love HK, I hate Metroid Dread. I played Dread about a year after it came out >price/length

I'm the opposite, I love getting lost. The extreme nonlinearity, having like 5+ different directions you can explore at all times and interconnectedness of the world is a huge part of the appeal for me. It's why I love games like HK, Dark Souls 1, System Shock, Romancing SaGa 2 and Black Souls 2
There's nothing inherently wrong with linear games, but I've come to associate metroidvanias with sprawling, labyrinthine, claustrophobic world, and Metroid Dread has none of that. It's all railroaded, and I expected something completely different from the genre
