Well now that everything's out, it's worth a shot if you're curious. A few things though.
The main reason it's divisive is because of all the back and forth trailers and development hell we've been privvy to. Even with all the DLC, the game still does feel incomplete in its story and world. Hell, even though the combat is decent, it does feel lacking in some aspects. But it's a good time if you want to see what was scrounged up.

Her games may not be perfect or even good, but they are extremely ambitious and inspired. Claire games have obvious problems everybody knows about: lack of exploration, extreme linearity with gameplay loop being reduced to "go forward/fight/watch cutscene" pattern, obvious pacing problems, especially in the second half of the game (see Fifth Ark dungeon). Then script writing is poor, events planners did many debatable things in some key scenes, music direction isn't consistently good, overall literary presentation lacks polish. Everybody knows it, and I don't understand why Claire deniers still chimping out about it as if it's some kind of a revelation.
The thing they don't see is that her games have ambition, deep lore, nice atmosphere, optimistic tone, the most refined art direction in series, best girls, good thematic core and scenario ideas. With proper, at least fricking working engine, sane production management and enough development resources FFXIII Remake and its sequels have infinite potential. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it.

Witcher 3 only had Bloodborne as realistic competition, and Bloodborne filtered too many critics by comparison. FFXVI has more competitors, and both TotK and RE4R have already scored higher than TW3.
Please show me another demo that lets you play 2 hours of the actual game from the start, carries its progress over to the full release and includes an optional segment with more high level mechanics from 20 hours into the game so you can really feel what more advanced gameplay is like.
It's a demo. It absolutely 100% perfectly shows you what the game is like, warts and all. It's not a cherrypicked vertical slice, you don't have to repeat content, it includes quality of life and it gives you shit that literally doesn't exist in the maingame just so you can make a better informed purchasing decision.
It seriously doesn't matter if you like the game or not, what this demo gives to the consumer is the best we have ever gotten for a demo.

There are really only two cringy parts of dialogue in the demo. That’s one of them, and unfortunately it happens s right at the beginning. The other is worse, though.

I'm unfortunately quite experienced with literature and usually when you have a horrible tragedy like that, there's still a sort of lesson to be learned for the future or a message for the viewer to take. but in the demo, the tragedy was simply too over the top horrible without any "lesson" to be taken there.
not to mention that when there's a tragedy, the way it should be structured is that it happens due to a mistake of one of the characters, but this time it wasn't really a "mistake". the eikon forms simply prevented them from recognizing each other, it wasn't really a mistake but a higher power fricking with them.
you know what's an excellent tragedy, peak writing and an amazing story? the original nier. when replicant nier kills humanity's chance at survival for the sake of his fake sister, preventing the real sister from being saved that's how you do tragedy. nier makes a mistake unknowingly, but there's a lesson to be taken and it was an avoidable mistake that he is definitely culpable of (refusing to understand what the shadows actually are).

From what i basically got she has Ambitions(trademark) and extreme pride/confidence in her Phoenix heritage. She also pretty obviously sees Joshua being Phoenix be due her, and thus he and everything he is is also hers. which is also why she likely hates Clive, he is a walking talking reminder of her failure to birth a Phoenix dominant on her first try.
On the more political side: Considering Waloed would probably have two or three Dominants at the time and Rosaria only had 1 that is her "weak" Son, joining with Sanbreque would put her in a good position in a country that would then have two dominants (thus increased defense againt Waloed) could be seen as a shrewd political move, especially since i think there is some inferral that harvests are getting fricked up and starvation may be imminent, so better to get attached to a more prosperous country, basically she was a Rat jumping ship on that angle.

I'd say 25 hours, but it's hard to tell. Game has no ingame tracker for time. I've done every sidequest in the game up to now. About 15 of them. About 5 of them have excellent writing, others are legit fetch quests.

My opinion on that is that the january leaker was a translated who had parts of the script, but not the visuals. He has to be working on incomplete info because there's too much about Jill and Clive's romance that doesn't line with what he says.

No, and frick you. If something sucks, I'll mention it. I'm not a fan of Benedikta being a footnote (she felt like she could have been a better character) and how most sidequests are pointless up to now. The rewards are usually not worth it (like 30 exp and 1000 gil) for the time invested and there were only a couple with good writing.
I expect that sidequest situation will improve post time skip. I feel like they didn't put their main development in the pre-timeskip because the world changes completely after we break the mother crystal and everything you didn't do is locked away forever.

Well now that everything's out, it's worth a shot if you're curious. A few things though.
The main reason it's divisive is because of all the back and forth trailers and development hell we've been privvy to. Even with all the DLC, the game still does feel incomplete in its story and world. Hell, even though the combat is decent, it does feel lacking in some aspects. But it's a good time if you want to see what was scrounged up.
There's a multiplayer expansion, I'm pretty sure it's dead at this point. There's no real gimmick to it other than it being the main game, but multiplayer. It has its own story, but its a fricking slapdashed story, so, whatever. You could probably solo it, but you might get bored.
The game also isn't as bro focused as you'd hope, but the illusion of it is nice while it's there I guess...
And now, the DLCs. They all take place during certain parts where your party members leave the story. They're okay, for the most part. Really small stuff, don't ecpect too much out of them. After the DLC was all out, they let you have the ability to switch between the party members, which wasn't in launch. So that's cool I guess. Other than that, it's Open World Final Fantasy. You'll get to free roam around chapter 2 or 3 I think, there's a good lot to explore, post game shit, optional dungeons, super bosses, etc. Game's like a 7/10 on a good day, 6~5 on a bad one. I liked it, but it could be better. Blame Nomura or whoever you want, this is what we got.

Just bought a PS5 just for FFXVI. It's not really a real Final Fantasy but it looks dope nonetheless. I'm a bit bummed by the lack of party-based combat and the kinda generic character design but the story is shaping up to be the best single-player FF story since X.

Her games may not be perfect or even good, but they are extremely ambitious and inspired. Claire games have obvious problems everybody knows about: lack of exploration, extreme linearity with gameplay loop being reduced to "go forward/fight/watch cutscene" pattern, obvious pacing problems, especially in the second half of the game (see Fifth Ark dungeon). Then script writing is poor, events planners did many debatable things in some key scenes, music direction isn't consistently good, overall literary presentation lacks polish. Everybody knows it, and I don't understand why Claire deniers still chimping out about it as if it's some kind of a revelation.
The thing they don't see is that her games have ambition, deep lore, nice atmosphere, optimistic tone, the most refined art direction in series, best girls, good thematic core and scenario ideas. With proper, at least fricking working engine, sane production management and enough development resources FFXIII Remake and its sequels have infinite potential. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it.

It's more the last 2 singleplayer ones as 14 and 11 are MMOs. Both XIII and XV were complete shitfests when it came to the story, characters, and gameplay. XIII had one likable character and the gameplay was literally just straight hallways. No towns or anything. XV had towns and the characters were OKAY but the plot was a mess. I dislike FF straying so far from its roots but at least now we can get games that aren't just a complete botched mess.

Please show me another demo that lets you play 2 hours of the actual game from the start, carries its progress over to the full release and includes an optional segment with more high level mechanics from 20 hours into the game so you can really feel what more advanced gameplay is like.
It's a demo. It absolutely 100% perfectly shows you what the game is like, warts and all. It's not a cherrypicked vertical slice, you don't have to repeat content, it includes quality of life and it gives you shit that literally doesn't exist in the maingame just so you can make a better informed purchasing decision.
It seriously doesn't matter if you like the game or not, what this demo gives to the consumer is the best we have ever gotten for a demo.

do people really think that? i thought the drama was too strong. the tragedy of the situation was too over the top for what it was. I'm unfortunately quite experienced with literature and usually when you have a horrible tragedy like that, there's still a sort of lesson to be learned for the future or a message for the viewer to take. but in the demo, the tragedy was simply too over the top horrible without any "lesson" to be taken there.
not to mention that when there's a tragedy, the way it should be structured is that it happens due to a mistake of one of the characters, but this time it wasn't really a "mistake". the eikon forms simply prevented them from recognizing each other, it wasn't really a mistake but a higher power fricking with them.
you know what's an excellent tragedy, peak writing and an amazing story? the original nier. when replicant nier kills humanity's chance at survival for the sake of his fake sister, preventing the real sister from being saved that's how you do tragedy. nier makes a mistake unknowingly, but there's a lesson to be taken and it was an avoidable mistake that he is definitely culpable of (refusing to understand what the shadows actually are).

From what i basically got she has Ambitions(trademark) and extreme pride/confidence in her Phoenix heritage. She also pretty obviously sees Joshua being Phoenix be due her, and thus he and everything he is is also hers. which is also why she likely hates Clive, he is a walking talking reminder of her failure to birth a Phoenix dominant on her first try.
On the more political side: Considering Waloed would probably have two or three Dominants at the time and Rosaria only had 1 that is her "weak" Son, joining with Sanbreque would put her in a good position in a country that would then have two dominants (thus increased defense againt Waloed) could be seen as a shrewd political move, especially since i think there is some inferral that harvests are getting fricked up and starvation may be imminent, so better to get attached to a more prosperous country, basically she was a Rat jumping ship on that angle.

I post the main story in spoilered bullet points, watermarked datalogs (the first ones weren't, which was a dumb move on my part) and then stick around for questions an hour or two after stopping playing.
I'd say 25 hours, but it's hard to tell. Game has no ingame tracker for time. I've done every sidequest in the game up to now. About 15 of them. About 5 of them have excellent writing, others are legit fetch quests.
My opinion on that is that the january leaker was a translated who had parts of the script, but not the visuals. He has to be working on incomplete info because there's too much about Jill and Clive's romance that doesn't line with what he says.

The rewards are usually not worth it (like 30 exp and 1000 gil) for the time invested and there were only a couple with good writing.
I expect that sidequest situation will improve post time skip. I feel like they didn't put their main development in the pre-timeskip because the world changes completely after we break the mother crystal and everything you didn't do is locked away forever.
