I love Titanfall, Titanfall 2 was a treasure especially the single player, I love BT 7274, Apex was fricking awful and i hated everything about it. It's like people took what i loved, and shoved a big fat BR shaped dick into it's mouth and tried to get me to love it again.
And god help me, Baldur's Gate 3 was even worse. Going from one of my favorite western pc rpgs to whatever that fricking shit was, i avoided all of everythign during the beta/pre release stuff. And then the bear (which would have been funny if it wasn't one part of a greater, less unpleasant whole)

It sure seems that way. It's fricking sad. Yamauchi held on to his presidency until he started looking like a fricking mummy, but he supposedly didn't make the decision lightly to have Iwata take his place. After Iwata died, it's like they didn't have a proper successor lined up. I don't know if this is really the issue at play or what, but it is telling. Nintendo was never perfect, but Yamauchi and Iwata certainly hit more home runs than misses. Now it feels like Nintendo's been shit for the past eight or so fricking years. I think the last Nintendo game I played that was kind of nice was Paper Mario Origami King, and even then it wasn't all that great, but, to be fair I might have been deluded by how god awful the previous two Paper Mario games were so I could've been grading on a scale due to my expectations.
It was just Yokoi, and honestly he had it coming with how stupid he was. Everyone knew Yamauchi was connected with the Yakuza, why the frick would you go work at a competitor just a few years after you leave Nintendo? Dread is shittier than Super Metroid, Fusion, and Zero Mission.
Mario Odyssey is, by far, the worst 3D Mario game, bar none. Gigantic, empty worlds with no threatening obstacles and an emphasis on scavenger hunt bullshit. It's closer to Banjo Kazooie or Donkey Kong 64 than to Mario 64.
I haven't played BotW or TotK, but both games don't look great. Just a bunch of goofy, open world experimenting without much solid gameplay. It looks like a mix of Elder Scrolls and Minecraft, two directionless games that appeal to the childish masses who don't want focused, challenging objectives. No thanks.
For that matter, Pikmin 4 is the worst of the series too.
At least Splatoon is still good, and Paper Mario Origami King is better than the previous two mainline games, but that's not a high bar to pass at all. Luigi's Mansion 3 is also better than 2, but, again, that's not difficult to do and LM3 fricking sucks dick anyway.

Sonic's problem was always the camera and nowadays how Sonic Team seems intent on sabotaging the brand with shitty games.

Not that anon, but Wonder really is fricking bad. I was so disappointed because I love all the New Super Mario games, with Mario U being my favorite. Mario Wonder looked like more of the same, but the level design is mostly flat with hardly much in the way of obstacles and there's practically no threatening enemies in each level. It relies very heavily on setpieces and gimmicks to look cool, but the actual level design and core gameplay are extremely lacking. It gets a bit better in the second half, but even then it pales in comparison to any of the other NSMB games. It also really is absurdly short; I bought it on launch and 100%'d the whole thing over two days, took me about 15 hours, and I didn't even need a guide. After Mario Wonder, Mario Odyssey, what I played of the Pikmin 4 demo, and just how shitty of a console the Switch is in general, I think I'm fricking done with Nintendo. I don't fricking care about what they have planned coming up anymore. I'm so saddened and disappointed.
Hey man, I tried backing up my opinion. If you want to deflect then go right ahead, but you cannot possibly play Semi-Final in Mario Wonder and say that it comes close to even half the levels in Mario U. What's extremely undeniable, though, is the length. It's just absurd how short Mario Wonder is, which would've been fine if every level was stellar, but they're not at all. It's easily the worst collection of 2D Mario levels out of the mainline games.
Damn, Pikmin 4 was that bad too? I really enjoyed 1 and 3. But I got that feeling from the videos I saw. Sure, you almost never timed out in earlier games, but removing the timer sort of gives you an easy to see impression of where they were going with the overall design of the game. It does look cool, but I think people who have been caring more about substance over style will probably see through it. I heard there's no unique bosses either, which is upsetting. NSMB was 20 years ago almost and it's still the peak of 2D Mario bosses.
Play the demo for yourself and see how you take it. There are some fricking bizarre decisions. There is A LOT of dialog in Pikmin 4, which really bogs the game down. There's also some new upgrade system where you collect materials to upgrade different abilities in levels; I feel like they were going for a skill tree vibe, although that's not really the right comparison. It's just weird. Most confusingly of all, you're limited to just 30 or so Pikmin when you start the game, even if you have 100 Pikmin waiting in the Onion. You unlock the max cap of Pikmin as you progress through the story. It felt like Pikmin 4 was being made by a team that knew nothing about why the first three worked, and I decided that I was not going to bother with it at all. I was already worried but cautiously optimistic with the trailers, but playing the demo sealed its fate for me. Frick that game.
And yeah, with Mario Wonder, removing the timer is such an odd choice. Two of the six worlds (not counting Special World) have no boss fight at all. You fight Bowser Jr. three times and he's okay, I guess. Then you fight Bowser at the end who's b***h baby easy. Also an okay boss, but it's not enough at fricking all. There is most definitely an emphasis on making the game look good with unique setpieces, and it does have its moments, but the overall package is missing so much.
Thanks, I didn't know there was a demo. The cap honestly intrigues me a little, that's what I liked about the previous challenge stages, it was fun having to maximize your efficiency on a timer without being able to just brute force your numbers. But I've heard other things too about how Oatchi trivializes half the game as well. Idk what's up with modern Nintendo being afraid to just give you a hard mode right out of the gate, if at all. I'll probably just be sticking with Mario Maker as far as that series goes.

Like you said, Oatchi trivializes a bunch of the game. I guess they wanted, like, an RTS "Hero Unit" for Pikmin, but I don't think it fits at all. I could see the cap being interesting in theory, but it just feels annoying since it arbitrarily locks me out of much of the map. Like, I have the number of and type of Pikmin I need for this obstacle, but the game doesn't let me use it. It feels stupid. I will say one thing, Pikmin 4 has these tiny challenge stages that are on really small maps and grade the player on kills and treasures collected within a short time limit. That stuff's really cool, but it's only going to make up, like, 10% - 15% of the whole game. The core gameplay is just way too lacking.

I'll be honest, Pikmin 3 for me was mostly about the challenge modes lmao Maybe I'll wait for a sale then. Pikmin 1 to this date is still the only one I really enjoyed the main game on and I replay it every couple of years. Yeah, I feel the same way. Pikmin 3 was about as dialog heavy as I was willing to tolerate. It's definitely not needed in a game like Pikmin, that shouldn't be such a focus. I enjoyed the main game for all three Pikmin games, with Pikmin 2 being my favorite, but Pikmin 4 doesn't feel right at all. Just so you know, those challenge maps aren't accessible via the main menu or some shit; you gotta unlock them in the main game. For that matter, Super Mario U had fantastic challenge modes that were separated from the main game, but they're completely absent altogether in Super Mario Wonder. I guess I'm getting bitter and old, but I say this is bullshit.

im not even a big pikmin guy and this felt glaring to me too. just a lot of restating things at the silent noncharacter mc, which is really the worst of both worlds imo since it doesn't tell a fun story/have fun character interactions and it gets in the way of actually playing the game for people who don't care about those things.

Nintendo is a weird beast. They're the only ones making actual fun games but they're rotting too. I'm at the weird place where I just emulate new Switch titles, but I actually buy them too. I gave away my Switch to my sister who only plays Splatoon, but games are still on her shelf even if she won't touch them.

DS and Wii were great. Madhouse, Red Steel 2, NMH, Ghost Trick, TWEWY, Hatsworth, Etrian Odyssey were all great. But while going on I did realize that Nintendo's output during that time was weaker. I'd say DKCR was the best Nintendo game during that era.

I love Titanfall, Titanfall 2 was a treasure especially the single player, I love BT 7274, Apex was fricking awful and i hated everything about it. It's like people took what i loved, and shoved a big fat BR shaped dick into it's mouth and tried to get me to love it again.
And god help me, Baldur's Gate 3 was even worse. Going from one of my favorite western pc rpgs to whatever that fricking shit was, i avoided all of everythign during the beta/pre release stuff. And then the bear (which would have been funny if it wasn't one part of a greater, less unpleasant whole)

It sure seems that way. It's fricking sad. Yamauchi held on to his presidency until he started looking like a fricking mummy, but he supposedly didn't make the decision lightly to have Iwata take his place. After Iwata died, it's like they didn't have a proper successor lined up. I don't know if this is really the issue at play or what, but it is telling. Nintendo was never perfect, but Yamauchi and Iwata certainly hit more home runs than misses. Now it feels like Nintendo's been shit for the past eight or so fricking years. I think the last Nintendo game I played that was kind of nice was Paper Mario Origami King, and even then it wasn't all that great, but, to be fair I might have been deluded by how god awful the previous two Paper Mario games were so I could've been grading on a scale due to my expectations.

Mario Odyssey is, by far, the worst 3D Mario game, bar none. Gigantic, empty worlds with no threatening obstacles and an emphasis on scavenger hunt bullshit. It's closer to Banjo Kazooie or Donkey Kong 64 than to Mario 64.
I haven't played BotW or TotK, but both games don't look great. Just a bunch of goofy, open world experimenting without much solid gameplay. It looks like a mix of Elder Scrolls and Minecraft, two directionless games that appeal to the childish masses who don't want focused, challenging objectives. No thanks.
For that matter, Pikmin 4 is the worst of the series too.
At least Splatoon is still good, and Paper Mario Origami King is better than the previous two mainline games, but that's not a high bar to pass at all. Luigi's Mansion 3 is also better than 2, but, again, that's not difficult to do and LM3 fricking sucks dick anyway.

Mario on the other hand never had that kind of fall from grace, they started off with a solid platformer formula and rolled with it improving upon it with each game and when it came to 3d they managed to do literally everything right from the controls to the level design.
64 is dated, Sunshine is garbage, Galaxy is good but doesn't have a cool overworld and feels more like a 2D Mario and Galaxy 2 is just more of Galaxy so if Galaxy wasn't your thing Galaxy 2 wasn't either.

Not that anon, but Wonder really is fricking bad. I was so disappointed because I love all the New Super Mario games, with Mario U being my favorite. Mario Wonder looked like more of the same, but the level design is mostly flat with hardly much in the way of obstacles and there's practically no threatening enemies in each level. It relies very heavily on setpieces and gimmicks to look cool, but the actual level design and core gameplay are extremely lacking. It gets a bit better in the second half, but even then it pales in comparison to any of the other NSMB games. It also really is absurdly short; I bought it on launch and 100%'d the whole thing over two days, took me about 15 hours, and I didn't even need a guide. After Mario Wonder, Mario Odyssey, what I played of the Pikmin 4 demo, and just how shitty of a console the Switch is in general, I think I'm fricking done with Nintendo. I don't fricking care about what they have planned coming up anymore. I'm so saddened and disappointed.

Hey man, I tried backing up my opinion. If you want to deflect then go right ahead, but you cannot possibly play Semi-Final in Mario Wonder and say that it comes close to even half the levels in Mario U. What's extremely undeniable, though, is the length. It's just absurd how short Mario Wonder is, which would've been fine if every level was stellar, but they're not at all. It's easily the worst collection of 2D Mario levels out of the mainline games.
Damn, Pikmin 4 was that bad too? I really enjoyed 1 and 3. But I got that feeling from the videos I saw. Sure, you almost never timed out in earlier games, but removing the timer sort of gives you an easy to see impression of where they were going with the overall design of the game. It does look cool, but I think people who have been caring more about substance over style will probably see through it. I heard there's no unique bosses either, which is upsetting. NSMB was 20 years ago almost and it's still the peak of 2D Mario bosses.
Play the demo for yourself and see how you take it. There are some fricking bizarre decisions. There is A LOT of dialog in Pikmin 4, which really bogs the game down. There's also some new upgrade system where you collect materials to upgrade different abilities in levels; I feel like they were going for a skill tree vibe, although that's not really the right comparison. It's just weird. Most confusingly of all, you're limited to just 30 or so Pikmin when you start the game, even if you have 100 Pikmin waiting in the Onion. You unlock the max cap of Pikmin as you progress through the story. It felt like Pikmin 4 was being made by a team that knew nothing about why the first three worked, and I decided that I was not going to bother with it at all. I was already worried but cautiously optimistic with the trailers, but playing the demo sealed its fate for me. Frick that game.
And yeah, with Mario Wonder, removing the timer is such an odd choice. Two of the six worlds (not counting Special World) have no boss fight at all. You fight Bowser Jr. three times and he's okay, I guess. Then you fight Bowser at the end who's b***h baby easy. Also an okay boss, but it's not enough at fricking all. There is most definitely an emphasis on making the game look good with unique setpieces, and it does have its moments, but the overall package is missing so much.
Thanks, I didn't know there was a demo. The cap honestly intrigues me a little, that's what I liked about the previous challenge stages, it was fun having to maximize your efficiency on a timer without being able to just brute force your numbers. But I've heard other things too about how Oatchi trivializes half the game as well. Idk what's up with modern Nintendo being afraid to just give you a hard mode right out of the gate, if at all. I'll probably just be sticking with Mario Maker as far as that series goes.
Like you said, Oatchi trivializes a bunch of the game. I guess they wanted, like, an RTS "Hero Unit" for Pikmin, but I don't think it fits at all. I could see the cap being interesting in theory, but it just feels annoying since it arbitrarily locks me out of much of the map. Like, I have the number of and type of Pikmin I need for this obstacle, but the game doesn't let me use it. It feels stupid. I will say one thing, Pikmin 4 has these tiny challenge stages that are on really small maps and grade the player on kills and treasures collected within a short time limit. That stuff's really cool, but it's only going to make up, like, 10% - 15% of the whole game. The core gameplay is just way too lacking.
I'll be honest, Pikmin 3 for me was mostly about the challenge modes lmao Maybe I'll wait for a sale then. Pikmin 1 to this date is still the only one I really enjoyed the main game on and I replay it every couple of years. I do feel you on the dialogue bits taking forever as well, they were pretty obnoxious in 3. I'm not some idiot who can't read, but is it really necessary in a game like Pikmin?
Yeah, I feel the same way. Pikmin 3 was about as dialog heavy as I was willing to tolerate. It's definitely not needed in a game like Pikmin, that shouldn't be such a focus. I enjoyed the main game for all three Pikmin games, with Pikmin 2 being my favorite, but Pikmin 4 doesn't feel right at all. Just so you know, those challenge maps aren't accessible via the main menu or some shit; you gotta unlock them in the main game. For that matter, Super Mario U had fantastic challenge modes that were separated from the main game, but they're completely absent altogether in Super Mario Wonder. I guess I'm getting bitter and old, but I say this is bullshit.

im not even a big pikmin guy and this felt glaring to me too. just a lot of restating things at the silent noncharacter mc, which is really the worst of both worlds imo since it doesn't tell a fun story/have fun character interactions and it gets in the way of actually playing the game for people who don't care about those things.

Nintendo is a weird beast. They're the only ones making actual fun games but they're rotting too. I'm at the weird place where I just emulate new Switch titles, but I actually buy them too. I gave away my Switch to my sister who only plays Splatoon, but games are still on her shelf even if she won't touch them.

Unironically, yeah. Those spinoff shovelware games were probably used as training material for new-hires and experimental ideas for the veterans to frick around with. Wii U was a lost cause by that point so they probably decided it was better to use its lifespan to do something productive with.

You can't honestly say that Super Circuit, Nightmare in Dreamland, FRLG are better than Kart DS, Super Star Ultra and HGSS.
Hell the GBA didn't even have it's own mainline Mario game. All it had were the broken apart All Stars ports and the SNES classics version of 1.
Wario Land 4 would be the GBA counterpart of NSMB, and I hope you won't try to claim that it's better. And what about Metroid, Fire Emblem, non-remake Kirby, M&L, Zelda?

DS and Wii were great. Madhouse, Red Steel 2, NMH, Ghost Trick, TWEWY, Hatsworth, Etrian Odyssey were all great. But while going on I did realize that Nintendo's output during that time was weaker. I'd say DKCR was the best Nintendo game during that era.
