It's very easy to clear a hunt. It's extremely forgiving with 50 mins and 3 carts, and this goes for ALL games, including the so-called hard ones like FU, 4U, and GU.
Being "good" at MH is another thing, and it's fairly obvious by just watching somebody play. Asmon sucks ass, and so does 95% of the playerbase. There isn't an exact metric, but put simply, if you can't kill MR monsters in IB in sub-10 minutes, you are complete and utter dogshit, minus some exceptions like Fatty (sub-15 min being the absolute shitter cutoff)

That post almost exactly describes how I felt when I tried old MH on 3ds back in the day. But after they made it prettier and easier I had fun. At least until it became about grinding israeliteels or charms or whatever they're called

Similar critique, after an initial run through of slaying each monster and grinding gear to a decent level, I just got bored and the only motivation going forward would have been to shoot for some uncreative meta strat doing exactly what you describe, trying to shave seconds off of the hunt clock. That is however what these games have always been about, it turns out. Didn't know that going in and bought it blind. I think it's a good game, just not my cup of tea in the long run is all. I figured multiplayer would breath new life into it for me but then I discovered how fricking needlessly clunky the mp/party system is and all desire to continue just ceased for myself and everyone else involved. I got a little over 100 hours out of it for $10 though, so all in all I had a good time with it. Not disappointed, just no staying power for me.

The older games aren't too casual, but it's because of tedious obnoxious mechanics and design choices, like hitboxes that you have to memorize because they extend way beyond the monster's model, and no 'footprints' so tracking down the monster when it fricks off from the area is more obnoxious. I think the time limit before the monsters vanish used to be less forgiving too. Anyway it wasn't 'hardcore' in the sense of 'fair but you gotta have skillz'

The people who get filtered by MHWorld or any MH for that matters are morons who refuse to engage with their defensive options. Asmongold is running max health boost and has as many points in divine blessing and evade window as he can. He's also playing super cautiously and healing to full after every bit of damage so yeah, no shit he's not carting.
Being averse to risk is typical Soulsgay behaviour because you die real quick in those games if you're careless. MH is different, the game wants you to be careless and take risks to uncover new methods of dishing out damage.
If the game actually wanted the player to take risks, they would give tighter time limits to the hunts to force the player to play more aggressively. The only MHW hunt that has a "tight" time limit is fatalis and maybe alatreon if you count his elemental DPS checks as a time limit.
The investigation quests do this. I once timed out on a 15 minute hunt fof Kushala because the fricker put a tornado covering the entire corridor that lasted for like 90 seconds.
I guess the older games enticed you to do that (I've only played 1 other pre-world MH), but something the game does do on a base level is throw a variety of utility and potential strategies you can use to fight a monster. If you're a stubborn moronic homosexual you might stick to a single weapon type even while not practicing to play that wep at the best of your ability, but from my playthrough, trying a new strat with a different wep seemed the way to go.
I wouldn't say anything in MH is designed around wanting you to take risks. To me MH is designed around being able to play it in any way you want. Compared to something like the Souls games where there's only really one way to do anything. In MH you have free range to build your build however you want and fight monsters however you want. I'd say the ever increasing challenge in the game is just about creeping into punishing bad habits to ease you into improving gradually rather than stomping them out from the get go. Using the current example of Asmongold, I bet he's going to reach a point where monsters become too fast and aggressive for him to get away with just cautiously healing to full after every bit of damage and he's going to need to improve his gameplay.

When Gen came out we played that as well and even though it wasn't the same game it was still fun. A few of us even played XX untranslated and it was a job in itself to decipher the the game.
When World came out, all the inactive people just came out of the woodwork and got PS4 to play it. There was so much enthusiasm and we got the gang all together. Same with Iceborne.
But oh man Rise was so divisive because of the temporary switch exclusive stuff. We all got the game on PC but man it didn't feel the same. There as legit infighting with some of us because some people didn't have fun with it and they couldn't stop being overly negative about it.
It wasn't like this with XX at all even tho it's in the same vein. Even wild hearts came out last year and I only got one guy to play with me, and while we had a good time the rest of the group would just give us shit for it. Eventually I just left because I didn't enjoy myself with them anymore.

I started playing for the first time and have been using defender gear and weapon since it fixes a lot of the majority of tedious unfun mechanics like stamina and sharpening. annihilated the entire game into high rank. the zorah magdaros fights were so bad that I'm genuinely surprised someone signed off on it not once, but twice.

All his gear goes to divine skills, defense skills, hp skills, resuscitate skill, palico sleep attack and health.

work on timing (evade window decos can help while you learn good timing) and positioning so that you have less distance to clear
You have 9 iframes normally at 60 fps
Evade Window gives an extra frame per point of the skill
Some weapons have more invincibility on counterattacks
Evade Extender will be better in many cases because it gets you the frick out of there instead of giving a brief window of invincibility

Except more targets removes your ability to actually read monster targeting so it makes positioning way more difficult and you don't get to make any mistake becuase one person carting is a cart less for anyone so if you get a hunt with a moron who double carts in the first 5 minutes then you have the rest of the hunt with not a single player being able to frick up once to finish the hunt. It will always be more difficult to play online than solo because there's a much smaller room for error. Telling for a solocuck to not even understand how the fricking game works. While everyone has been riding the World hype train I've still just been playing Rise I actually like World more of the 2 but I ain't done with Rise yet. Getting that anomaly level up is a grind I'll tell you that. I just want to get to 250 for the last weapon augment upgrade.

By playing the game more. Iceborne made it much easier to make builds with the combo decos since you just pick one side of the deco that you want in your build and the other half is unimportant.
World's biggest problem is that it was too easy, yes. Same with Rise. It took aaaaaaall the way until Sunbreak's title updates to finally, FINALLY provide difficult fights that weren't just about time limits.
I hate how difficulty arguments always default to cope with "actualy it's not easy" instead of just going "it's fine that it's not that difficult". Dark Souls has ruined an entire generation of gamers who have deluded themselves into thinking that difficulty is a suitable metric to judge quality. Which is doubly ironic when Dark Souls itself was never intended to be a difficulty focused game.

it's actually a pretty okay game. Sure the main story makes you want to paint your walls with your brain with its generic godzilla kaiju nonsense but monster hunter gameplay is still pretty solid if you don't take it too seriously
Sometimes I seriously wonder if people here have actually played both World and Rise, and also played any MH games prior to them. I don't hate World by any means, but there was a lot that pissed me off about it, like decoration farming. I don't know how anybody can think it's better to farm decos over talismans, since a talisman with good slots and mediocre skills is way more fun in terms of what you can fit in to your equipment midgame. Also, I guess I'm the only person who cared that bow lost all of its different shot-types in World and the only person who was ecstatic when they came back in Rise. To name a couple of things. Basically, what I'm saying is that they're both fun and everyone who doesn't think so is probably a moron.
Ok and I didn't like 4 iframe dodging in rise and having to use fricking wirebugs n shit as a defensive option. "It's not dark souls!!" Well in one of the old psp games and in world I would max evade window and have a lot of fun and rise made that useless. Maxing evade window in rise is worse than default world roll BTW.

I bought MHW few months ago with a friend and we both quit after like 15 hours because we got a OP armor set at the beginning of the game and every item we got was way worse, im so confused as to why this armorset is even in the game it very quickly got boring when there was practically no progression for us. monster hunter was never supposed to be a "hardcore" game. The only people who propped that idea up were those who started with world and lumped it in with dark souls or were actual game journalists getting filtered by anja because they didnt understand the mechanics. I got it during the sale and don't like it much, the surface level MMO mechanics are so dumb and just exist to pad the game out and add a story nobody cares about. It's one of the few games I played which I wished was open world, this mixed with BOTW would be the perfect game

All his gear goes to divine skills, defense skills, hp skills, resuscitate skill, palico sleep attack and health.
So his run was exactly 10 minutes longer than mine back then, it also help that he's less greedy in term of doing chips attack compare to your average mh newbie who usually spam everything into cart.
I'm not tuning in to try and see what he's got but you can survive a lot with even a few defensive skills, and an insane amount if you go full tank but it'll take a while to kill shit
My issue with going full defense isn't even the time it takes to kill things its the monster barely reacting to your hits
No reason not to slap Health Boost at a bare minimum into a set in World though, it's stupid good.

There barely any good attack set in early game and most of them does nothing unless you got high upkeep in damaging the monster so basically you trying to speedrun as completely new player, also he used GS which got enough damage to stagger monster multiple times in a single hunt.
His run mostly last longer than usual because he hell bend trying to cut monster tail in all his quest run.
He literally wasting time trying to cut Glavenus's tails while it was not red, the monster died with most attack landed on his tail while the tail itself never got cut.
Monster Hunter has never been hard. The difficulty of the games comes from how inconveniencing and annoying mechanics are. The skill ceiling is extremely high for players who master it, but calling roaring, tremor, stun, shitty hitboxes difficult is dishonest. The entire game is built upon dishonesty.

It's very easy to clear a hunt. It's extremely forgiving with 50 mins and 3 carts, and this goes for ALL games, including the so-called hard ones like FU, 4U, and GU.
Being "good" at MH is another thing, and it's fairly obvious by just watching somebody play. Asmon sucks ass, and so does 95% of the playerbase. There isn't an exact metric, but put simply, if you can't kill MR monsters in IB in sub-10 minutes, you are complete and utter dogshit, minus some exceptions like Fatty (sub-15 min being the absolute shitter cutoff)

Similar critique, after an initial run through of slaying each monster and grinding gear to a decent level, I just got bored and the only motivation going forward would have been to shoot for some uncreative meta strat doing exactly what you describe, trying to shave seconds off of the hunt clock. That is however what these games have always been about, it turns out. Didn't know that going in and bought it blind. I think it's a good game, just not my cup of tea in the long run is all. I figured multiplayer would breath new life into it for me but then I discovered how fricking needlessly clunky the mp/party system is and all desire to continue just ceased for myself and everyone else involved. I got a little over 100 hours out of it for $10 though, so all in all I had a good time with it. Not disappointed, just no staying power for me.
Same, until I did that a handful of times for each monster and didn't find it amusing anymore. Bonking mons was fun for a good while, I already got my money's worth out of it. I'm a filthy sandbox / roguelike peasant, so it's not as if my opinion should dissuade anybody from checking the game out if it's on sale.

The older games aren't too casual, but it's because of tedious obnoxious mechanics and design choices, like hitboxes that you have to memorize because they extend way beyond the monster's model, and no 'footprints' so tracking down the monster when it fricks off from the area is more obnoxious. I think the time limit before the monsters vanish used to be less forgiving too. Anyway it wasn't 'hardcore' in the sense of 'fair but you gotta have skillz'

The people who get filtered by MHWorld or any MH for that matters are morons who refuse to engage with their defensive options. Asmongold is running max health boost and has as many points in divine blessing and evade window as he can. He's also playing super cautiously and healing to full after every bit of damage so yeah, no shit he's not carting.
Being averse to risk is typical Soulsgay behaviour because you die real quick in those games if you're careless. MH is different, the game wants you to be careless and take risks to uncover new methods of dishing out damage.
If the game actually wanted the player to take risks, they would give tighter time limits to the hunts to force the player to play more aggressively. The only MHW hunt that has a "tight" time limit is fatalis and maybe alatreon if you count his elemental DPS checks as a time limit.
The investigation quests do this. I once timed out on a 15 minute hunt fof Kushala because the fricker put a tornado covering the entire corridor that lasted for like 90 seconds.
I guess the older games enticed you to do that (I've only played 1 other pre-world MH), but something the game does do on a base level is throw a variety of utility and potential strategies you can use to fight a monster. If you're a stubborn moronic homosexual you might stick to a single weapon type even while not practicing to play that wep at the best of your ability, but from my playthrough, trying a new strat with a different wep seemed the way to go.
I wouldn't say anything in MH is designed around wanting you to take risks. To me MH is designed around being able to play it in any way you want. Compared to something like the Souls games where there's only really one way to do anything. In MH you have free range to build your build however you want and fight monsters however you want. I'd say the ever increasing challenge in the game is just about creeping into punishing bad habits to ease you into improving gradually rather than stomping them out from the get go. Using the current example of Asmongold, I bet he's going to reach a point where monsters become too fast and aggressive for him to get away with just cautiously healing to full after every bit of damage and he's going to need to improve his gameplay.

When Gen came out we played that as well and even though it wasn't the same game it was still fun. A few of us even played XX untranslated and it was a job in itself to decipher the the game.
When World came out, all the inactive people just came out of the woodwork and got PS4 to play it. There was so much enthusiasm and we got the gang all together. Same with Iceborne.
But oh man Rise was so divisive because of the temporary switch exclusive stuff. We all got the game on PC but man it didn't feel the same. There as legit infighting with some of us because some people didn't have fun with it and they couldn't stop being overly negative about it.
It wasn't like this with XX at all even tho it's in the same vein. Even wild hearts came out last year and I only got one guy to play with me, and while we had a good time the rest of the group would just give us shit for it. Eventually I just left because I didn't enjoy myself with them anymore.

While everyone has been riding the World hype train I've still just been playing Rise I actually like World more of the 2 but I ain't done with Rise yet. Getting that anomaly level up is a grind I'll tell you that. I just want to get to 250 for the last weapon augment upgrade.

By playing the game more. Iceborne made it much easier to make builds with the combo decos since you just pick one side of the deco that you want in your build and the other half is unimportant.

World's biggest problem is that it was too easy, yes. Same with Rise. It took aaaaaaall the way until Sunbreak's title updates to finally, FINALLY provide difficult fights that weren't just about time limits.

it's actually a pretty okay game. Sure the main story makes you want to paint your walls with your brain with its generic godzilla kaiju nonsense but monster hunter gameplay is still pretty solid if you don't take it too seriously
Sometimes I seriously wonder if people here have actually played both World and Rise, and also played any MH games prior to them. I don't hate World by any means, but there was a lot that pissed me off about it, like decoration farming. I don't know how anybody can think it's better to farm decos over talismans, since a talisman with good slots and mediocre skills is way more fun in terms of what you can fit in to your equipment midgame. Also, I guess I'm the only person who cared that bow lost all of its different shot-types in World and the only person who was ecstatic when they came back in Rise. To name a couple of things. Basically, what I'm saying is that they're both fun and everyone who doesn't think so is probably a moron.
Ok and I didn't like 4 iframe dodging in rise and having to use fricking wirebugs n shit as a defensive option. "It's not dark souls!!" Well in one of the old psp games and in world I would max evade window and have a lot of fun and rise made that useless. Maxing evade window in rise is worse than default world roll BTW.

I bought MHW few months ago with a friend and we both quit after like 15 hours because we got a OP armor set at the beginning of the game and every item we got was way worse, im so confused as to why this armorset is even in the game it very quickly got boring when there was practically no progression for us. Is there shit more mid-late thats better?

monster hunter was never supposed to be a "hardcore" game. The only people who propped that idea up were those who started with world and lumped it in with dark souls or were actual game journalists getting filtered by anja because they didnt understand the mechanics. Also old grognards who wanted to feel special and mistook the clunkiness and limitations of the old games as difficulty. Every game in the series has the same difficulty curve that only goes up sharply at the very very end. The game is meant to be played by japanese schoolchildren and dudes riding the train to work. But who the frick cares about a game being perceived as le hardcore, its still a great series. Its not impressive or surprising that a streamer can play the game at an ok pace without getting filtered either

I got it during the sale and don't like it much, the surface level MMO mechanics are so dumb and just exist to pad the game out and add a story nobody cares about. It's one of the few games I played which I wished was open world, this mixed with BOTW would be the perfect game

I'm not tuning in to try and see what he's got but you can survive a lot with even a few defensive skills, and an insane amount if you go full tank but it'll take a while to kill shit
Failing multiple times are worst than extra 10 minutes finish in your first run.
It also help you learning monster pattern as new player.
My issue with going full defense isn't even the time it takes to kill things its the monster barely reacting to your hits
No reason not to slap Health Boost at a bare minimum into a set in World though, it's stupid good.

There barely any good attack set in early game and most of them does nothing unless you got high upkeep in damaging the monster so basically you trying to speedrun as completely new player, also he used GS which got enough damage to stagger monster multiple times in a single hunt.
His run mostly last longer than usual because he hell bend trying to cut monster tail in all his quest run.
He literally wasting time trying to cut Glavenus's tails while it was not red, the monster died with most attack landed on his tail while the tail itself never got cut.

Monster Hunter has never been hard. The difficulty of the games comes from how inconveniencing and annoying mechanics are. The skill ceiling is extremely high for players who master it, but calling roaring, tremor, stun, shitty hitboxes difficult is dishonest. The entire game is built upon dishonesty.
What monsters even have a threatening roar besides ones where it's explicitly a damaging attack like Tigrex

Divine Blessing procs a ton for no good reason in World, to where folks were using it over Health Boost, because it was more reliable to take less damage than have more HP. It's part of World's poorly balanced systems, something a lot of World suffers from, others include Max Might being too strong, Master's Touch being too easy to get, etc. It's sounds like he's genuinely playing the game, and people are upset he isnt playing it like how they want him too, despite the game giving it as an option. It's showing the cracks in the perfect creation known as World.
