Insanity. Yeah, there might be good parts, but holy shit, even basic gameplay mechanics are worse than a ~24 year old game (Ocarina of Time). You can't even swing your sword in the direction you want since this is basically a copy and paste of Breath of the Wild. And yet, people are gobbling it up.

Based. It deserves its success. It easily the best video game I've played in the past 5 years.

On one hand I am happy for its success. I think its open world is kept more interesting than the average with the smaller cast/number of npcs to interact with and complete side quests with. On the other hand, the reliance on shrines, the shallow combat combined with the shitty durability design, and gimmicky world manipulation like Ultrahand, makes me think they don't deserve to be so successful that all we are going to get are more of the same with every LoZ entry from now on. Just like BotW (unsurprising given it is largely a carbon copy) it has more missteps than hits, but its sales numbers means the wrong lessons are going to be taken away from it.

      >it has more missteps than hits, but its sales numbers means the wrong lessons are going to be taken away from it.
And THIS is why gatekeeping is impossible when your hobby is overrun by the masses. Doesn't matter how bad it really is, the sales are all that matters. Brittany Spears was garbage, but sold insanely well, so music companies pushed hard for more generic pop music. Some of the best selling movies of all time are mindless schlock. Reality TV took over TV after the success of crap shows like Road Rules and Survivor. Steam took physical copies and the right of resale away from gamers, but made so much profit they are practically a monopoly on PC videogame distribution these days.
It's impossible to enforce any sort of standard when you are outnumbered by consumers with no standards.

        >Steam took physical copies and the right of resale away from gamers
Fricking awful DRM from the early 2000s did that. Steam was a godsend compared to borderline malware like SecuROM.

We had cracks to get around that shit. We could still sell the game disc if we wanted. You can't sell games from your steam account you no longer play.

So long as they continue making real Zelda games as top-down games I don't care. If this slop is all we're getting from now on this is pretty depressing news, though.

I have 45 hours and i’m probably done 20% of what’s to do at most. It’s a remarkable achievement and a genuinely enjoyable experience.

I've only had time for about 30 hours and all I've done is fill the map up, and complete about 30 shrines. Loving it, really. The exploration's really nice and calm, great after a day being a wagecuck.
