People keep saying that about romhacks like it's an accomplishment. When the bar is set so low you can step over it, you don't deserve praise for getting over it. Most of these romhacks probably actually trip over the bar anyway but people say this because of GF hatred and resentment
Unbound has one of the worst stories of all time and pretty much every side mission is a fetch quest. The characters are all cringe inducing and the npc trainers have shit dialogue before and after battles.
It's just one of many shitty things about it. I could have talked about how many legendaries are involved, the dumb gimmicks the gyms have, the starter selection, the poorly implemented real time systems, the ugly characters, the constant pop culture references, the badly designed routes and towns. Being able to skip the story because it's so bad isn't really a good thing.

It's fun, especially with the rewrite in the second version (they got rid of Arceus from the plotline, and it only appears post game).
Yes, tying it to Kalos's war lore is a bid dumb especially with the life giving death cannon lifted straight from the region itself but it's at least a story that's doesn't overstay its welcome.

And the NPCs talk waaaaay too much. Gamefreak must have a rule NPCs can only say x textboxes because it was super noticeable.

It was ok, but I hate when rom hacks trivialize legendary Pokémon. Aren't they supposed to be either extremely rare/powerful Pokémon, with some being straight up gods? It really undermines their power when the game throws like 30 of them to you as if they were L4D zombies

Every time. Evil team boss fight? Rival comes in to fight with you. More evil team leaders? Former evil team member joins you. The best part is that half the time they're actively hurting you via activating opposing abilities or getting KOd instantly amd making the fights 3v6 double battles.
i really like this hack, especially the big update to 2.0 it got in december. insane mode battles are fun and actually challenging the first time around, sandbox mode allows you to frick around and try goofy shit, as well as eliminate the need grinding/egg hatching if that's not your thing. never tried scalemons but it's a cool option if you want something different.
the story is absolutely trash but it's more funny at how awful it is than anything (which makes it less boring than any official game story).
outside of doing a separate scalemons playthru, unbound doesn't have a lot of replay value if you just want to focus on battles. all the missions and shit give you more to do than any official game, though. i also really only play nuzlockes so my opinion is skewed cloud burst is the best minigame in any pokemon game to date
