I can see what 5e is trying to do, it's trying to make Paladins more distinct from Clerics by not tying them to gods and instead to Oaths.
The issue is I think 4e did that better by explaining what an Oath actually is more, and how it's more like a ascribing yourself to a divine law that the Gods themselves adher to than just a vague cause.
Alignment is completely pointless in 5e though, while unironically mattering very much because they have not changed the cosmology of DnD at all where Alignment is an absolute fundamental force of the Universe. Most people rather forget your alignment will basically determine where you go when you die, especially depending on your god. Not really, Druid's cant and shit was usually a good way for a Druid to have out of combat roleplay hooks. Sort of a similar way a thief could have connections in a new town, a Druid could discover hidden Druidic agents in a town or city who can provide infomation. It's honestly one of the worst things 5e removed completely was the Druidic language and the secret society aspect of Druids.

Since we live in the real world when people talk about bestiality they usually mean sex with non-sapient animals. You can of course change the definition so that only the physical form is relevant and I'll concede that it is bestiality. But in that case you'll have to concede that there's nothing inherently wrong with bestiality, it's hardly different than fricking an elf.

I can see what 5e is trying to do, it's trying to make Paladins more distinct from Clerics by not tying them to gods and instead to Oaths.
The issue is I think 4e did that better by explaining what an Oath actually is more, and how it's more like a ascribing yourself to a divine law that the Gods themselves adher to than just a vague cause.
Alignment is completely pointless in 5e though, while unironically mattering very much because they have not changed the cosmology of DnD at all where Alignment is an absolute fundamental force of the Universe. Most people rather forget your alignment will basically determine where you go when you die, especially depending on your god. Then again, I see tons of edgy Athiest characters in 5e recently when I need to specifically remind them that is a very very dumb thing to do.
