Its the same in Finland, and I assume most of Europe. Nordea lets me take out a flex loan for the down payment. They obviously do a check on you to make sure you're not a deadbeat first. But as far as loans go, mortgages are incredibly safe bets for banks.

In the state I live in, if I make over ~$27,000 a year, I no longer qualify for free healthcare, food stamps, or welfare. That would cost me roughly $26,000 a year, so I'd end up with $1,000 a year left over for everything else.
But if I make ~$26,000 a year, I can also get ~$600 a month for welfare, ~$600 a month for food stamps, and ~$1,000 a month for my meds. So in total that's pulling in $48,000, leaving the remaining ~$26,000.

Its so the panels arrange themselves vertically for phones. Try changing the width of your browser window and see. Anyway, you can easily just take a screenshot (in Firefox you just right click the page and select Take Screenshot). I do that anyway since a lot of artists are hosting with webp nowadays.

That's just the general cost of having a baby. Stuff like medical care, diapers, food, etc. This is why when it's a single parent, it's so much harder to make it work and they have to rely on the state. Kids need both parents not just for mental stability but also financial security too. I had an extended family member who was a single parent and it took all of us who lived nearby just to make it work and raise the child.

Most of the bill for having a child (around $15k total) is handled by insurance, which everyone has. And if you don't and you can't afford the bill, you can contact the hospital about your situation and the majority of hospitals have to forgive the debt by law because of charity taxing laws

Adding onto this for non Americans curious about our health care. If you have an emergency and the hospital has federal funding, you are under no obligation to pay any emergency bill unless you give them your social security number (which you never have to do under any circumstance in any situation). You could get the surgery you need and then walk out.
Also if you get a huge bill after giving them your SS card, you can force them to give you an itemized bill showing all that they are charging and it's usually dramatically lower than what they initially asked for. Additionally if you see on the itemized bill that there's duplicate charges or BS like charging hundreds for Advil, you can dispute the bill with the billing department and they have to lower it further.
They never tell you this btw, citizens are just supposed to know.

I was in the hospital for a month and a half and my total out of pocket was like 2500 bucks. Factor in my medical insurance costs and other costs for the whole year up to my max out of pocket and I paid like 5 grand. If the US had free healthcare I would pay more in taxes than that. That's why I don't want "free" healthcare because people like me would be paying for other people's healthcare and I don't wanna.

I'm Canadian and I pay $1300 in taxes every single week. It's cool when Indians come to my country to drive for UberEats and immediately get access to the same level of healthcare as I do + they use it significantly more!

I've literally never met a single person in America that has had to pay for a child birth.
That's just the general cost of having a baby. Stuff like medical care, diapers, food, etc. This is why when it's a single parent, it's so much harder to make it work and they have to rely on the state. Kids need both parents not just for mental stability but also financial security too. I had an extended family member who was a single parent and it took all of us who lived nearby just to make it work and raise the child.

The claim I always hear is that it's explicitly what the hospital charges you for giving birth there. Good to know it's just slander against the US healthcare system.
Most of the bill for having a child (around $15k total) is handled by insurance, which everyone has. And if you don't and you can't afford the bill, you can contact the hospital about your situation and the majority of hospitals have to forgive the debt by law because of charity taxing laws

Adding onto this for non Americans curious about our health care. If you have an emergency and the hospital has federal funding, you are under no obligation to pay any emergency bill unless you give them your social security number (which you never have to do under any circumstance in any situation). You could get the surgery you need and then walk out.
Also if you get a huge bill after giving them your SS card, you can force them to give you an itemized bill showing all that they are charging and it's usually dramatically lower than what they initially asked for. Additionally if you see on the itemized bill that there's duplicate charges or BS like charging hundreds for Advil, you can dispute the bill with the billing department and they have to lower it further.
They never tell you this btw, citizens are just supposed to know.

Did you know that as a member of a jury you can vote that someone who committed a crime should go free because the law is gay and you don't like it? It's called jury nullification and there's nothing anyone can do to stop you (except intimidation/assassination).
