Fallout 1 was the only really great one, and Dark Souls did nothing better than Demon's Souls outside of having an interconnected world for half the game, and took steps backwards or sideways with the actual issues the game had. If you're a PTD bandwaggoner, your opinion is worthless.

Estus healing in Dark Souls 1 was poorly implemented though. It was much improved in Dark Souls 2 and 3. And then they basically went back to Demon's Souls healing in Bloodborne anyways. The healing is really not that big of a factor, since vast majority of deaths will be from getting one-hit/chain killed or getting killed while trying to heal.
