Homebrewing is the dumbest shit in this hobby
The designers print thousands of pages of slop with basically everything you need and people will still convince themselves that because they're a failed fantasy writer they should force people to play Tolkien Knockoff World #7938 instead of something designed by people who are actually smart and make money like Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk
And homebrewed races/classes are worse. First off homebrewed races are either super unbalanced or super racist so it's going to piss everyone at your table off if they're decent human beings. Second nobody wants to play your homebrewed Gunslinging Psionic Assassin class it's been done before and it was stupid then so it's stupid now. Just stop. Play an Archer god dammit
Anyone else think homebrewers are legitimately scum? They're so ungrateful for all the shit we already have

It's free though. For some peope that matters more than quality.
This.
TTRPGs being a hobby with zero financial investment (discounting pen, paper and dice) required is at least for me one of the main selling points of the hobby.
I really hope this is bait
It is, its copy pasted every week or so
seems fresh to me
and honestly sometimes I appreciate a plate full of raw worms, to remind me that bait can be good or bad, fresh or moldy, and to be on the lookout for subtler baits, or for double baits and false-flag baits.
Probably
>You can find PDFs of everything you need online don't give me that shit
Sure, given enough time and effort you can find anything. But if you're looking for something hyper specific it might be faster to make it than to find it.
I don't think you actually hate homebrew. I don't think you have any strong opinions on the matter at all. I think you just want to b***h and moan about imaginary people just for the sake of b***hing and moaning.
Also why is everything "slop" now? For awhile people called everything "cringe", but I don't see that one used as often anymore. Did cringe become associated with undesirables the way soi did with 'jak spammers? I can't keep up with the meaningless insult treadmill anymore.
If you want to play games designed by people that are actually smart that you can't alter yourself, try video games. Obviously the former doesn't apply to all of them, but programming filters out a lot more morons than anything in tabletop.
I think it’s less about agreement (or lack thereof), and more about the misproportioned vitriol, the subtle hints that OP is supposed to have only ever played d&d, and the not-so-subtle political shitstirring.
Definitely bait, but it’s debatable what kind. Might be the “games require you to do 90% of the work” schizo, maybe?
Before Forgotten Realms was published, it was Ed’s homebrew setting for his games. This isn’t a field with professional accreditation, it’s a hobby where “professionals” are just amateurs who decided to monetize their pastime. And, most importantly of all, it’s a hobby built on imagination and creativity.
I homebrew because I do not like any of them.
Some homebrew rules I actually like, for instance in 5e making Inspiration a more common reward so you actually use them instead of hoarding forever, or making things like reckless attack a reaction if you miss instead of using it before and both rolls are a hit, wasting it.
The people who "homebrew" stuff by making it worse are insufferable. Making "le wacky nat 1" types are the most common. It actively makes martial worse by having a flat 5% chance on every single attack either hurt or hinder you. Or "rebalancing" spells by making them so much worse you are better off never learning it.
No
Shouldn't have used the "slop" word for the official rules, it gives away the bit.
So you just consume whatever shit is put in front of you, without bothering to change it to suit your particular tastes? Do you have any thoughts at all of your own or do you just stick with what others offer you? I bet when you go to Mcdonalds you don't take in your own bottle of wocester sauce with you, do you, you unimaginative slop slurping drone.
You're the type of person who spends hours burning a meal on the stove and then complaining once you go to an actual restaurant - fast food or not - that they left the pickles on your sandwich. Moron
I came back to the thread after a day and to nobody's surprise the insufferable pseud trogs on /tg/ still can't invent counterarguments so they resort to calling me a baiter.
You people are the reason our hobby is being held hostage by Critical Role and Youtubers. Embarrassing
what do you mean held hostage? my games have never been affected by anything but me and my players
ANSWER ME.
At some point there is a diminishing return on making outlandish moronic claims, anon.
>Homebrewing is the dumbest shit in this hobby
And just like that I've spotted the nogames tourist.
>The designers print thousands of pages of slop with basically everything you need
Depends on the system and even then, not everything I want or need will be included nor will I be totally happy with any TTRPG I didn't make myself.
>and people will still convince themselves that because they're a failed fantasy writer they should force people to play Tolkien Knockoff World #7938 instead of something designed by people who are actually smart and make money like Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk
FR is literally a tolkein knockoff, and it's because 99% of all fantasy settings are just shitty clones of tolkein that it's imperative to make your own setting. Also, it prevents option bloat where there are 500 race options and none of them make a lick of sense being in the setting.
>And homebrewed races/classes are worse
Nah, I can legitimately design better content for D&D than the actual writers.
>First off homebrewed races are either super unbalanced or super racist so it's going to piss everyone at your table off if they're decent human beings
Nah.
>Second nobody wants to play your homebrewed Gunslinging Psionic Assassin class it's been done before and it was stupid then so it's stupid now.
Wrong, I have someone who won't stop trying to play my homebrew kamen rider class at my table.
>Just stop. Play an Archer god dammit
Bows are boring, guns are based, choke on your soilent you weak beta male.
>Anyone else think homebrewers are legitimately scum?
They're the lifeblood of the hobby and always have been, and are way better than corporate goyslop.
>They're so ungrateful for all the shit we already have
if they were then they wouldn't be making homebrew for existing systems.
Also, picrel.
>and it's because 99% of all fantasy settings are just shitty clones of tolkein that it's imperative to make your own setting.
I guarantee a Tolkien ripoff with one or two twists is better than whatever slop you 'brewed' up
No
Oh good, I found the right thread to post my homebrew Unreal Tournament hack of Deadzone.
Is it good?
I dunno, haven't had a chance to playtest it yet. Play it with your friends and tell me.
I wish. I live in a country where miniature games dont exist. So no playtesting here, sorry.
>I'd love to help you, but I'm a nogamer
Why does this always happen to me?
Warning: OP is a spiritually inert lump of flesh with no creativity who wants to bring you down to his level and get some (you)s in the process.
Disagree save it should be written to a self imposed brief like can I write a skirmish game less than 2 double sided pages etc.
IF anything people should just read the rules as written better and more often and take ideas from that improved understanding
Peak bootlicking
No one will ever make a system that runs games about what I want to a sufficient level of accuracy and engagement so I do it myself.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to go back to figuring out how dynamic lift works on a semi-rigid airship since they got that keel to prevent deformation but not them ribs.
Tolkien worked in medieval literature and folklore he didn't read scifi fantasy hobit and lotr are both fictionally written by fairy tale hobit creatures for fictional medieval reader. The style of medieval storytelling in a time before revenue, sequels, copyright, or critics. All other fantasy books suck because the characters all feel like the modern day weirdos who keep the industy alive and I'm expected to care about magic systems or other fictional sciences and histories that are unambiguous closed systems played completely straight and written in the style of a dentist office magazine. The only links to medieval stories are the clothes and technology of the characters the fantasy is of some oversocialized loser wondering if he would be taken seriously in ye oldentimes of epic swordfighting. Tolkien was into ye oldentimes seriously, taking fantasy genre fiction seriously is IMPOSSIBLE because it's STUPID. Anyone who says its about ww1 or Christianity or something is also STUPID.
good effort mate
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT FANTASY SHOULDN'T HAVE A SETTING OR A SPECIFIC SET OF RULES. NO MATTER HOW MANY SIDES YOU ADD TO YOUR DICE ITS A RANDOM NUMBER MAKER WITH NO SENSE OF WHAT MAKES GOOD STORY SENSE.
OP is bait, but I genuinely don't like it when people bring homebrew mechanics to the table unless it's something extremely simple or narrow in scope. Published games are playtested and that's what makes them worth paying for. I want to spend my weekly game time playing a game that works, not helping somebody work out all the kinks in their amateur game design project.
Homebrew settings are fine though.
>/tg/ once again and for always proves they are incapable of not responding to bait.
>Even ironically posting "this is bait" is bumping a bait thread
>These same posters will then go and complain about how good threads get bumped off the board by bait and hide in their generals because "there are no good threads on /tg/"
Herbs
>Thinks 'homebrewers' and 'designers' are different things.
They are all the same you dimwit, EVERYTHING is made up by someone. The only difference is that some try to make money out of what they create and some don't.
>Gunslinging Psionic Assassin class
>Nobody wants to play that
Now you just hold your horses right there!
Play a classless system or mutliclass
Latterly nobody needs something that hyper specific
Not him but I reflavoured my soulknife in 5e to be exactly what he's done, remade the knives into a gun and derringer and its a fricking rogue, its an assasin. Frick yes people want that kind of style, its the best kind of style.
>people who are actually smart
Anyone who is actually smart will take one look at the state of the industry and then stay the frick away from it. Being a professional RPG designed means you're a fricking idiot or otherwise incapable of getting a decent job.
