it gives your hero the ability to lightning strike every enemy unit at the beginning of battle "based on the amount of buildings you have". i dont know how good it is in practise but on the good to go map shit is hilariously op because you can kill every neutral instantly
>number ranges
back in my day you looked up a table on your shitty internet, write it down, and eventually learn all the terms by heart. First time I saw a group described as zounds my heart jumped
Is this the hd version? It is way cheaper to buy the hd version on steam right now than buy the original on gog. Is it worth it to just buy the cheap hd version?
No. The steam version is shit, it doesn't have either of the two expansions, and nobody makes mods for it.
I bet the gog version (HoMM 3 Complete) is cheap as frick, but if that's an issue just pirate it. It's not like 3DO or New World Computing even exist anymore, so nobody cares.
Just don't waste your time with the inferior steam version.
you're right, steampunk is what I had in mind, just forgot it's a thing >I think it fits surprisingly well into the fantasy setting.
in case of might and magic though, nothing would fit the setting more than the forge, every faction of the setting was represented in the game so far, except the ancients
moreover, i don't recall any M&M game have anything that resembled steampunk
True, it has been. But going all moronic like forge is stupid. It does not mesh well with the rest. Since the rest is about hiding the tech, not crudely mashing together tech and magic. The whole point of homm tech is that its so advanced that the best parts are indistinguishable from magic.
My understanding was it was supposed to be a follow up to one of M&M7's endings where everyone mass produced blasters and robots to have a big ass war. Instead we got morons playing with swords and nuking the plane off screen.
>The whole point of homm tech is that its so advanced that the best parts are indistinguishable from magic.
Its not that. Its just that its an easy way to add a twist. >what if le medieval magic game, actually had hecking nukes. Wizardry also had that shit. Nobody likes alien devils or technological angels, but you could pretend that wasnt there. But forge just rubs its dick in your face
It's not a twist when it's like 10 games deep into it being established lore.

Imagine playing Batman game and where you about to win Darkseid appears out of nowhere and deletes you with omega beams. Would you have problem with that? Darkseid was part of the lore since forever.
Doesn't change the fact that the town just looks like shit. And it's easier to justify sci-fi in a normal fantasy setting, when it's used as a shock-twist in the last 1/3rd of the game.
The problem is that Heroes wasn't. Might and Magic had scifi from the start so everyone was used to it. Heroes didn't, so it seemed like a weird change that came out of nowhere for anyone who hadn't played the main games.
And that was obviously a problem given how they remade the expansion, wasn't it?

that was NWC's lapse in judgement, but at the time when outrage was rare and internet wasn't that big yet, it was an understandable decision to make, I don't blame them
All I'm saying is that HoTA team could've restored what should've been, but chose not to, which I'm not angry about, but sure as hell disappointed
Heroes is the same setting as normal M&M, it's a spin off game series. Hell, Enroth(the country) was founded by a space knight in the Heroes 1 where he portaled to Enroth(the continent) on planet Enroth. Heroes 2 is only a few decades separated from this and 3 shortly after.
Yeah, I know, but someone who only played Heroes wouldn't. For them it's standard fantasy game and then the expansion is sci fi out of nowhere. If vanilla HoMM3 had sci fi elements (mention that the kreegans are really aliens or something) then maybe people would have been more ready and the reception would have been different.

IIRC, it's touched on in some of the Heroes Chronicles packs for 3 but probably less people have played those than have just played Heroes and M&M.
Something that bugs me about HoMM3 is that every attack has the side effect of being a damage reduction debuff to your enemy since their units die. It's very odd from an RPG perspective and makes initiative crazy strong.
What the frick is this hero specialty. In what world.
Am I missing some big brain developer mindset here on how to design a new faction and extra content?
>one year growth autobattle
that's so utterly pointless, homm3 is all about snowballing and having to spend shitton of resources on 2 tier 7 units doesn't help that
>autists are fricking stupid >posts more autistic sperging
If you're all so cool make your own mods instead of spending every day shitposting about people who did
Nobody is sperging. People in 2000, before you even were sperm in your dads sack, were having a shitfit over og Forge that was supposed to be added in the expac. They were right. It was a time before twitter, when devs actually listened to people voting with their wallets. Its a shame we got conflux out of it which is pretty shit town thats half reused assets
>amazing on-brand intro in the Factory background music is ruined by the following indecisive middle section that seems too scared to commit to a simple melody
You hate to see it but it's a more cohesive track than the mess Romero submitted
>divisive shit that people talk about long after the game's relevence has passed
or >boring halfassed crap that might as well not exist
On these grounds alone I'd take Forge over Conflux any day. Been a lot of HoMM threads recently and do you ever see people talk about Conflux, except maybe to shit on it? Of course not. And even then, more people dump on Inferno. What a dumpster of a town. Not even a dumpster fire 'cause at least the fire is entertaining.
>tfw no engineer tomboy waifu
She's hebe too, I think. They really went all out.
What's the Grail building?
it gives your hero the ability to lightning strike every enemy unit at the beginning of battle "based on the amount of buildings you have". i dont know how good it is in practise but on the good to go map shit is hilariously op because you can kill every neutral instantly
>the ability to lightning strike every enemy unit
It's a tesla coil?
some anon posted this at launch, people thought it was a bug
The campaign is busting my ass but I refuse to play it on anything else but Impossible difficulty
Bretty cool, what's the damage calculation?
>number ranges
back in my day you looked up a table on your shitty internet, write it down, and eventually learn all the terms by heart. First time I saw a group described as zounds my heart jumped

HOMM3 frick yeah
Got to hand it to the Rus, they really nailed the aesthetic of HoMM2 Wizard moved to HoMM3.

I guess I will just pirate it, thanks for the warning anon
still not using HotA
your loss
i dont play hota; only hd mod, so i wouldnt know about how factory is.
>add two human gunpowder factions
Why are hota devs so unimaginative?
Cove and factory aren't similar at all though.
theyre literally nothing alike lol why do you have to cry about everything anon
it's meh
I don't like the western setting this faction has at all
Forge would've been 1000x cooler, aesthetics wise and lore wise
i respectfully disagree
>western setting
It's more steampunk tbh. I think it fits surprisingly well into the fantasy setting. Fun units too.
you're right, steampunk is what I had in mind, just forgot it's a thing
>I think it fits surprisingly well into the fantasy setting.
in case of might and magic though, nothing would fit the setting more than the forge, every faction of the setting was represented in the game so far, except the ancients

>image
This shit looks worse than some russian shitposts
Google naga tank.
Lol
Now I think everyone crying after forge must be mentally ill
forgegays are moronic and new world computing never shouldve revealed it
I mean it fit with the lore. Beneath the fantasy fluff Might and Magic has always been scifi.
stop anon, don't try to argue with a tertiary fan
True, it has been. But going all moronic like forge is stupid. It does not mesh well with the rest. Since the rest is about hiding the tech, not crudely mashing together tech and magic. The whole point of homm tech is that its so advanced that the best parts are indistinguishable from magic.

>Its just that its an easy way to add a twist
a twist revealing a part of lore that was established in 1986?
>I know better than NWC what HoMM should have been
don't you have M&M games to not play?
Correct. I know better, because I have the power of hindsight on my side at this point.
Doesn't change the fact that the town just looks like shit. And it's easier to justify sci-fi in a normal fantasy setting, when it's used as a shock-twist in the last 1/3rd of the game.

>The problem is that
there was never a problem, just a very loud minority of autistic morons that sperg'd out on NWC
And that was obviously a problem given how they remade the expansion, wasn't it?
that was NWC's lapse in judgement, but at the time when outrage was rare and internet wasn't that big yet, it was an understandable decision to make, I don't blame them

odd how people 24 years ago didnt care about muh lore when faced wit that ugly piece of shit
maybe youre just being a contrarian anon
NWC themselves also must have been contrarians for making forge
i guess its unfortunate that back then developers actually responded to fan backlash
"""""fan""""" backlash
however you choose to cope mate
It's unfortunate it was still the early days of the internet when they took autistic shit like death threats seriously
If this is what forge spergs are crying about they really should seek help. That looks like complete shit.
Something that bugs me about HoMM3 is that every attack has the side effect of being a damage reduction debuff to your enemy since their units die. It's very odd from an RPG perspective and makes initiative crazy strong.
having the fastest unit on battlefield also lets you cast the spell as first/last in turn
True. I loved abusing it by playing as Sir Mullich on grassland only maps to dunk on my brothers.
This is why it takes twice as many stat points to cap attack compared to defense.
What the frick is this hero specialty. In what world.
Am I missing some big brain developer mindset here on how to design a new faction and extra content?
The specialty is you get to start with the most broken skill in the game.
as if there were no useless heros in the base game
in this case shit speciality but good skills is a fine tradeoff
>start with diplo
instant pick
Pretty weak faction if not for it double tier 7 creature.
>one year growth autobattle
that's so utterly pointless, homm3 is all about snowballing and having to spend shitton of resources on 2 tier 7 units doesn't help that
>408k gold worth of units barely beats 354k gold worth of units.
Lol, lmao even.
MM autists are fricking stupid. Nobody who has only played heroes and especially people who started with homm3 wanted any of the moronic MM sc fi shit
>autists are fricking stupid
>posts more autistic sperging

Whatever Black person go frick yourself
Stop getting angry at the Internet, Anton
Yes, we've seen your previous 5 threads already. Don't you have a war to go to, Ivan?
>amazing on-brand intro in the Factory background music is ruined by the following indecisive middle section that seems too scared to commit to a simple melody
You hate to see it but it's a more cohesive track than the mess Romero submitted
>this is what forgegays think was okay to put in the game
>but some wormy boys are too far
ngl, that's pretty sick. Maybe the forgegays were right all along.
>this is concept art that was leaked
>this isn't what the final unit would have been
>this is what passes for an argument from anti-Forge homosexuals
It's funny how modern people are unable to understand the 90s. Poor crippled little souls.
Guess nobody told the customers in the 90s they don't understand the 90s either
>t. Some tween sperg romanticizing an era he never lived through.
It feels fairly mediocre to bad
I like it a lot more than the Cove. In fact, is there a way to play this without HotA content?
It is HotA content.
>divisive shit that people talk about long after the game's relevence has passed
or
>boring halfassed crap that might as well not exist
On these grounds alone I'd take Forge over Conflux any day. Been a lot of HoMM threads recently and do you ever see people talk about Conflux, except maybe to shit on it? Of course not. And even then, more people dump on Inferno. What a dumpster of a town. Not even a dumpster fire 'cause at least the fire is entertaining.
Just checked it out. Pirates were okay I guess but this one looks like absolute ASS.
Town music sucks too.
factory is better than cove in every way except music
>Town music sucks too
The original HoMM3 composer made them a town track and they didn't use it
Not ingame, not canon.
simple as
Finally, a fan recreation dumber than this one
>one fast and flying unit, the rest slow as molasses
candidate for the worst town in the game
Someone didn't get the memo that Forge's gimmick was being overpowered and expensive
You think that Inferno is the weakest town anyone could ever make? Hold my beer.
how do i git gud
i got this shilled as a good necromancer game so i wanna play necropolis but i kinda suck at the game
Leave your zombies at home, they only slow your hero down. Or put them in the skeleton converter and have a second stack of skeletons.
I went to an opera a while back with my dad to see Heroes orchestra
?
