It's an artful and extremely competent interpretation of Ocarina of Time's arc and structure but with the 2000's game design sensibilities of realism, "gritty" tone, and a more grounded aesthetic. The game starts far more slowly than most Zelda games but is also longer in general, with its open world belying a fairly linear path that intentionally presents every point of interest in a structured manner. Mechanically it's not trying much new but it's well-polished and tried some interesting alterations of standard Zelda dungeon design, particularly for the late-game dungeons. Midna remains the best-written and most realized companion with her own arc and constant presence in both the story and the gameplay, but all other npcs suffer from the lack of spotlight.

Overall it remains my favorite 3D zelda and a wonderful entry to the series proper.

      >Twilight Princess
      >Open world

Unfocused project that never found its own voice. Lots of good specific things but on the other hand lots of bad specific things and what's more important, no solid overarching vision for the game.

I never felt like Twilight Princess was unfocused.

Pretty based. It's a great game, not a masterpiece but it has a ton of SOUL that's glossed over because "muh brown"

I agree with this, wonderful game, but still my least favorite 3D Zelda because it hews so close to Ocarina of Time. Anyone familiar with the game knows it has a distinct atmosphere of its own, but it still lacks a certain vibrancy in the world and NPCs.

Also Tetra > Impa then, now and forever.

the world feels more lived in than OoT by miles. castletown is a bustling place with dozens of NPC's to talk to, running businesses, and the town square is always active. kakariko is similar, everyone is doing something and hardly any of them are just waiting to be talked to. Ordon village's strength is in the same vein that everyone criticizes the first hour of the game for, it establishes atmosphere and introduces characters with personality and who are important to the narrative. ect ect

you even get to thaw out zora's domain which OoT never made good on. and that has a huge impact on lake hylia and its inhabitants. ect
also Tetra sucks. loses all personality when she dons the dress garment.

Loved this game, loved the HD port because it got rid of the blur, but most of all love my ultimate vidya wife Midna (imp form), to whom I pledged my eternal love, back in 2006, now and forever.

Hard to describe, but the whole game looks blurry and out of focus. I could never get too far in the game before losing interest.

I played it as a kid and it was my first Zelda so it's difficult for me to "objectively" evaluate it, it's very nostalgic. One of my favorite games and still my favorite Zelda.

My favorite Zelda game, even if it does have issues. The early game is frankly pretty boring, everything before you get the master sword and the ability to switch between wolf and regular link is kinda mid (except for the whole thing that happens after the lakebed temple)
Everything else after that is pure KINO though.

It's my absolute favorite game ever, it has a particular ambience that just does it for me, plus some excellent dungeons and cool sword skills on top of that. I generally get why people don't like it but I really don't care, it never fails to put a smile on my face.

      >it has a particular ambience that just does it for me
Exactly. This is kind of what I was trying to describe here

Why doesn't anyone like the beginning of TP? The whole period where you're sneaking around as a wolf and nobody recognizes you felt really dramatic and atmospheric to me. I vaguely recall the music being really creepy and melancholic too. The whole thing felt really memorable and unique

. I remember being up in the middle of the night playing the flying temple with the weird chicken creatures; it was such a strange experience that I'll always remember thanks to the music/ambience/weird sounds

TP's non dungeon parts in general draw animosity for their linearity and pacing, as if that's not an issue that affects more Zeldas than it doesn't. That it takes 2-3 hours of slow burn tutorialization to get to the first part with some degree of real autonomy gets under a lot of peoples' skin.

      >The whole period where you're sneaking around as a wolf and nobody recognizes you felt really dramatic and atmospheric to me.
exactly, the fact that this is such a minority opinion is why I don't take Ganker anon opinions on video games seriously. they're the kind of homosexuals that just chain smoke through video games, and when you ask them about it they just talk about how shitty the games they beat were. they can't go into depth about how a game felt to play minute to minute, or the stand out parts and how important they were to the overall game.

Built to mating press like literally built to be mating press'd. Grabbed by the hips hands under ass cheek flip her legs up so her knees are now pushing hard against her shoulders hold her by the top of her thighs horizontally. And finally scream and yell like a caveman as you slam up and down at least 180 times a min.

Midna and Elzo the bestest helper friewnds in Zelda history. Its a shame we will never see the minish/picori in another Zelda let alone 3D zelda game. I'd love to see a game with the picori/minish and twilight in the same world together.

it naturally builds upon mechanics it introduces, and weaves together complementary interlocking capabilities. there's fishing in many holes around the overworld, there's learning new scents, so later on you get to figure out to fish for a certain kind and then to learn its scent to forge a path forward. the games does this several times in a game that is literally and metaphorically three times the game Ocarina of Time is. if you like OoT, then it makes no sense to dislike TP.

It had a pretty slow start, but I feel it has a pretty good lineup of dungeons and setpieces and makes much better use of Hyrule field and Epona. I easily prefer it to OoT and WW.
Series needs to do more with horsebattles.
