I would wait. There's a lot of talk of Square gearing up to put more of their shit on PC, it didn't make the money they wanted and they're going to have to go multi plat to make that green. Now the question is... how buggy will it be on launch

You should wait unless you really want to play FF7 rebirth, demon souls, stellar blade immediately.

The game has 35 hours (no exaggeration) of cutscenes in a normal playthrough, but the story is a B movie at best. If you just plan on watching a playthrough you'd be better off watching the Netflix witcher series which is just as bad.

The story is bland, uninspired and even when it feels like it's building some momentum, which is rare, it'll still shoot itself in the foot by ruining it with one of its many segments where you spend far too long on what feels like a sidequest they forced into the main story that feels like a blackhole of creativity both in writing and gameplay design, completely killing any momentum it had going.

It's a game where 75% of what you do is watching a cutscene, even the devs knew the summon fights were nothing more than movie jank.

Also, the only thing about the story being good is the opening hours after that it gets much worse where even the MC questions what the frick is going on.

You honestly shouldn't bother with it at all. I am very rarely dissatisfied by games I play but I was offended by how dull and bad this was. I think the best part about the game is the combat which you won't get if you do watch it, but I certainly don't think it's worth your money, much less your time. I can understand if you have enough curiosity about it that you still want to try it yourself but I wish I hadn't, and that's something I rarely say about any game, even ones I dislike. At least a lot of games I dislike bring something to the table that made it interesting or made me think about why I do and don't like certain things or whatever, but XVI was just a chore that made me feel like I was actively wasting my time.

Wait for PC. Not because it's good, but because you need to experience the disappointment for yourself. If you watch it on YouTube you get to watch the cutscenes and not the 30+ hours of boring, shitty, mandatory, useless fetch quests. Most people who defend XVI haven't even played it, they just have grandiose ideas about it because of the shitty MMO they like.

are the sidequests really that boring?

  17. 3 weeks ago

Just watch a playthrough, playing the game is a slog (it's carried by it's boss battles) and the story takes a nose dive after the first 4 hours.

    Combat in XVI
    >Square Square Square Triangle L1 button R1 button wait for powers to fill oh look a summon is charging up and... Battle over before summon even charges.

Rebirth is not getting a PC release any time soon because Sony paid for exclusivity till Part 3 is out but FF16's PC port has been in the works for a while now confirmed by YoshiP himself months ago. But the game's basically a movie, so watching a playthrough would probably give the same experience anyway. Most of the game is cut-scenes and another huge chunk are some of the shittiest and most pointless sidequests ever seen in gaming.

Is it possible to only give order to Torgal during battles, and not any other characters? Do allies contribute to the damage inflicted? Are they susceptible to death?

There's not even a party in XVI. You can give Torgal a command but you don't even need to. "Party Members" in XVI don't even have HP.

I respect it more after playing through Rebirth, but it's still a mess. If it was fully linear, it would be an 8/10, instead of 5/10.
I did like the story mostly. It just falls apart in the last third.

I think you should wait. As someone who deeply regrets buying a PS5, this and Rebirth have really helped a ton with my buyer's remorse. I also really genuinely think that FFXVI's story is the best story put out by modern games since The Last Guardian.

I dunno what it was exactly, and it's definitely not flawless by any means. But I felt like it was the most earnest I've seen a story be from a delivery standpoint for a long long time. It never undercut itself with snarky humor, and the relationship between Clive and Joshua felt really sweet and kind and loving in this really unironic and based way. Game really made me miss my best friend who I now live a couple thousand miles away from as we both try to balance the responsibilities of having families and being husbands and all that gay shit.
