It's kind of terrible, which is too bad. The rest of the game was great, and if they had kept what worked from gen 6 I think a lot more people in the multiplayer-focused part of the fanbase would have it in their top few of the series.
Should’ve been treated as a legitimate multiplayer hub instead of a broken combination between the Wi-Fi plaza and Join Avenue. I don’t understand why GameFreak just don’t create a location where you can battle, trade, meet friends, and do fun side activities/mini games that is strictly for multiplayer. The Wild Area was close but the lack of optimization ruins its long term appeal.

both are excellent features in their own right but fusing them just doesn't fricking work, you need PSS to be easily accessible anywhere at any time

I gave up on Moon because of it. Talking to randos about their favorite whatever and having to button mash to get the features is far worse than grinding in pokemon, not that you do that anymore.
PSS was better. They should have kept PSS separate from Join Avenue (on the bottom screen), and kept Join Avenue as a MP area you can access from a list of options or whatever. Akin to the Wifi Plaza of Platinum.
I dont like using online features with randos and non of my friends play Pokemon like me so I never used it
There were countless communities online.
I spend countless hours there just waiting for trades on /wfg/ and listening to Seafolk night
