There's someone on Youtube who has been clearing high levels of Hall of Forgotten Memories with only 4* characters.
Characters do "come with" their signature weapon, but that's purely cosmetic, as in Star Rail, Light Cones take the place that weapons do in Genshin. There is still a "weapon banner" in that you have to roll for a character's signature Light Cone.
Yeah it allows much more creativity to designers for character weapons and light cone artwork. As much as I like the visual aspect of the weapon of your choosing appear on your character, I think this is much healthier in the long run

Light Cones took over the role of Weapons, they work similarly except LC also give HP and DEF instead of having a secondary stats, and can be equipped on other classes albeit with their effect negated.
LCs also felt more generic so far, probably because of game design.
Sign LCs usually fit the character more on top of having an art related to the character.
I would say they are equal, Dan is better with buffers that can grant him Wind pen and debuffers who slow enemies so he can always get the ultimate additional trigger effect. Though he can work by himself, you will want to buff him. Also if he is hyper invested you can use him in content where there are no wind weak enemies and he will still be viable.
Sushang on the other hand relies on enemies being weakness broken so you need to pair her with other damage dealers, specifically ones that the enemies are weak to.
I didn't count eidolons but if we count that in Dan's 4th eidolon is busted and makes him a mini Seela.

The Genshin Collab wouldn't even really be a Collab since Star Rail is fundamentally about meeting characters from different universes, and Genshin is just another universe in the Honkai word. So the lore is already implemented for us to get Eula.

Just adding, the LC/weapon gacha uses the same guarantee system as characters instead of Genshin's EP or the lack of it previously.

Non-limited signs are also available in the shop, taking over the 4* weapons in Genshin.
They cost 600 premium shop currency or the equivalent of a whooping 30 rolls (tix cost 20).
The shop currency obtained from rolling is the same as Genshin, only multiplied by 4, so since the tix in the Genshin premium shop cost 5, in SR it cost 20.
The only difference is that characters cost a little bit more, in Genshin they cost 34, but in SR they cost 140 (140 / 4 = 35).

There's a "coop" in the final beta.
It's like a raid but very small in scope, kinda like GBF's.
You scout an enemy, then you can either solo it or share it with friends/public, and people can help you but the enemy.
There is no open world so I don't think they bothered with coop. There was a """coop""" event where you and your friends try to take down a boss with limited tries like a similar event in HI3, but other than that and renting your character for certain content, there is no coop. Hopefully they add a permanent coop game mode after launch

I feel like the biggest mistake to make is not to commit. Like Tower of Fantasy that wanted to be everything at once. The character design mentality seems to "borrow" heavily from arknights, thats the feel I got from what little characters they showed. Literally the only noteworthy cast member is the pink haired mesugaki, by Bache's(AL) artist

I have been practicing my rerolling autism for this game. Have been rerolling for Granblue for about 4 days and still going strong. Anyone going in Star Rail with what they get is doing a huge disservice to themselves, especially in this game.
I don't know about waifu designs but the gameplay designs for characters are pretty good, they're simple in a vacuum but combined with light cones artifacts and extra talents they can get pretty complex. Also I like that every standart banner 5* has good syngery with some 4* stars >Clara wants to be hit and March 7th shield gives her taunt while also shielding her >Bronya and Welt synergizes really well with Dan Heng to enable his wind res pen or ult multiplier >Gepard and Bailu synergize well with Arlan to keep him healthy or just under 60% HP, which is in my opinion a very underrated DPS character >Himeko is very good with Herta and other Pyro characters and in the future will be a staple in mono Pyro teams >Yanqing is good by himself, but very OP when hyper invested and paired with a buffer like Tingyun or Bronya

She's not "niche", she just needs taunt to enable her (read March 7th) because if you don't hit her she does basically nothing. She is a giga stat stick and has self cleanses, she is just very unique in her gameplay which is why most ooga booga tier lists call her trash without considering what she does when properly built in a team. Also, don't give a frick about the meta in mihoyo games, pull with your dick or for the meta it doesn't matter really since the content we have right now is piss easy

Does taunt even work vs bosses? Why does a character that needs to be hit not even have a way to enable that? She is basically forced to be tied down to another character, what happens when you can't run two dedicated characters because of some other reason? I makes your total choices for team comp much smaller.

IIRC taunt is a character stat so it should work on every enemy except the ones that hit all your allies or ones specifically designed to not be affected by taunt. And yeah that is how Mihoyo designs characters, even the strongest characters in Genshin will be crippled to a halt if you take away their teammate that enables them. Hopefully they release a light cone or another 4 star character that works with Clara, but even now she is pretty strong.

Because taunts and defensive skills are for Preservation characters, so far only fire MC have it. Others like Clara simply increases the chance of getting hit.
Taunt itself is an actual stat that's tied to class/role, Destruction characters has the highest base Taunt stat so they're more likely to be attacked. Just wait until they break this "rule".

That sounds needlessly convoluted. I've never in all my years seen a taunt ability that just kind of works sometimes if it feels like it. I hate characters that have a mechanic that relies on needing another character to function. That almost 100% guarantees them to be extremely niche and quickly forgotten. Of course it had to be the character design that is most unique to the game and the one I liked the most.

One beefs up her counters, one is an instant attack when the battle starts and the other one is your average taunt provoke. It also depends by how much she increases her chances of being attacked because if it's "greatly increased" like it says then it's actually pretty good and even better if you can increase it to a 100% chance via other abilities like March 7th.

And to add to this, Clara seems to be a tanky bruiser. If her numbers are good or remain good through time then she can be still be used later when there's characters that redirect enemy aggro to a certain character like GBF Andira's sage of eternity skill but yeah it is kind of silly having a character based on counters not have a taunt. Should have made her hostility last longer at least instead of 2 turns.

She is basically forced to be tied down to another character, what happens when you can't run two dedicated characters because of some other reason? I makes your total choices for team comp much smaller.

She does. Her ult causes a greatly increased chance for enemies to hit her, the same as March's shield. It is not a 100% chance taunt like the Pyro MC has, but it is close.

The gimmick of combat is that you have a "skill point reserve" that charges by 1 when you do a basic attack (which deals low damage of your elemental type) and you use the reserve by 1 when you use a skill (the signature of characters) and as you attack and take damage you charge up your ult which you can use for any character as long as it is your turn. Out of combat wise, each character has techniques that give you a bonus when using it to engage combat, but you can only use it limited times, so a party of 4 cant benefit from 4 techniques. Also you have light cones which are like weapons which grant bonus stats and a bonus ability if you are the same type of class as the light cone. There are also artifacts which are like the endgame grind content, which give shit load of stats but the stats are random upon acquiring. So yeah, I would call it an actual turn based rpg, not as good as things like FE or Persona/SMT games mechanics wise but it being free and having extra game modes like a roguelike mode and a rotating mode which gives pull resources. Though the community is trash (as with mihoyo games)

Yeah that's what I said, the combat is just "press skill or auto, sometimes ult" and that's because the game is clearly designed for a younger/inexperienced audience in mind. As I said, there are a lot of variables that change how the fight plays out, but if you're looking for more buttons to press, you'd rather play a different game, this game is just a more casual E7 without PvPshittery

Bro, the characters don't comfort to some basic elements like Genshin, their damage is because of their weapon not some meme powers so yeah, their designs are more unique since not every fire character has to be red or orange to fit their element. And so are their weapons because they don't all have to fit one basic class. It's objectively more unique, cope and seethe.
i agree with the colors-elements part since that is such an obnoxiously bad part of genshin, but most of them are still overdesigned and follow some other design principles instead (asymmetrical capes, weird trinkets and straps all over the clothing)

Yeah but the catch is you can only use the type of class the light cone is on the type of class the character is (well you can still equip it and gain the stats but not the additional effect, unlike how bow users in Genshin can only equip bows and such) and the light cone banner is now 75 to 25

Honkai's story was completely awful and devoid of any stakes or satisfaction and Genshin plays it really safe so I hope it's a fun read and not a tragedywank like every other chinese game
I've enjoyed the story thus far that has been in the betas. While I wouldn't call it a "tragedy-wank," it does lean more on the HI3rd side than the GI side. Spoilers for the first planet, Jarilo-VI:
You go to a planet that, due to the effects of a Stellaron, has been covered in an eternal winter. The team of protagonists offer their services to seal away the Stellaron to the queen of the planet, only for the queen to betray them and try to have her guards arrest the protagonists. After some investigation and the help of the queen's daughter, you find that the queen's mind has been altered by the Stellaron, which promised her the means to save her people, so she sees any threat to the Stellaron as a threat to her people, despite the opposite being the case. The protagonists eventually kill the queen and seal the Stellaron, but the queen's daughter decides to tell her people that the queen died a noble death in the fight to seal the Stellaron in order to preserve her legacy and honor.

No, the game is still very much modeled after Genshin. With it basically pandering to everyone at the same time while committing to nothing. But the story is indeed more reminiscent of Honkai in its darker themes.

It tries to tease dark themes or pretend bad things will happen but in the end nothing happens, everything gets solved by a convenient plot device out of absolutely nowhere and if anything bad actually and truly happens then it gets retconned later on or fixed later on by some asspull.

NTA, but those sims take some assumptions that are unrealistic. For example:
1: It does not account for Seele's extra turns from killing enemies, something that will come into play in almost every fight in the game. Even primarily single-target bosses almost always have at least 2 adds.
2: For Sushang, he assumed she will be able to take full advantage of her passive that only trigger after she inflicts physical break. Against enemies that don't have a physical weakness, she falls off a cliff.
3: For AoE, he only counted 3 targets. There are a lot of fights where you're up against 4-7 enemies at once, so simming with only 3 targets give an unfair advantage to enemies that primarily do blasts, rather than full AoEs, which is why Serval is shown as above Himeko.

As for the actual point: Yeah, I think the sims and damage charts is pretty dumb since damage sims usually only compare damage between characters under perfect conditions and real world conditions will never be that perfect but I think the video listed here does a good job of explaining what the character does and how they work (

I wouldn't say there's "a lot" of battles with 4-7 enemies, but there's enough that assuming every AoE encounter has only 3 is silly. For example, there is a boss that can summon 6 adds at once. Granted, each of these adds is very weak, so you'll likely only require one or two damage instances to kill each one, but chewing through all of them with single target or blast abilities would take significantly more turns than a single AoE.
As for Clara, yes, in fights with a lot of adds she's very useful, but there is a caveat. When she uses her ult and Svarog's counters get buffed, she only gets two uses of this. Additionally, it turns Svarog's counter into a blast ability for those two instances, which can kill adds that haven't attacked yet, which will reduce her overall damage.
I will also give this guy credit, he did teach me something I didn't realize: That Arlan's skill doesn't consume skill points. As I don't like HP-saccing characters I never really tried him out, so I just assumed it consumed his health and a skill point, rather than just his health, as I don't believe the game states anywhere that his skill doesn't consume skill points. That honestly does make him a lot more viable than I initially thought.
First time I even heard of it, and with that name even if I did, I probably wouldn't have bothered. They seem to have really dropped the ball with marketing for that one.

4 star units are pretty strong but you still need to pull most of them. Weapon banners are usually a bait, and they will probably switch to the double character banner system like in Genshin after a while
There's someone on Youtube who has been clearing high levels of Hall of Forgotten Memories with only 4* characters.
Characters do "come with" their signature weapon, but that's purely cosmetic, as in Star Rail, Light Cones take the place that weapons do in Genshin. There is still a "weapon banner" in that you have to roll for a character's signature Light Cone.

Yeah it allows much more creativity to designers for character weapons and light cone artwork. As much as I like the visual aspect of the weapon of your choosing appear on your character, I think this is much healthier in the long run

Light Cones took over the role of Weapons, they work similarly except LC also give HP and DEF instead of having a secondary stats, and can be equipped on other classes albeit with their effect negated.
LCs also felt more generic so far, probably because of game design.
Sign LCs usually fit the character more on top of having an art related to the character.

I would say they are equal, Dan is better with buffers that can grant him Wind pen and debuffers who slow enemies so he can always get the ultimate additional trigger effect. Though he can work by himself, you will want to buff him. Also if he is hyper invested you can use him in content where there are no wind weak enemies and he will still be viable.
Sushang on the other hand relies on enemies being weakness broken so you need to pair her with other damage dealers, specifically ones that the enemies are weak to.
I didn't count eidolons but if we count that in Dan's 4th eidolon is busted and makes him a mini Seela.

I've been in the last two betas. No PvP or Guilds. Also no co-op. The closest thing to co-op is being able to use one of another person's characters in certain content. Other than that, it's practically a single-player game.

Ok another one if you don't mind, what are the rates, how does the pity work if any and how many daily chores are there roughly speaking.
Rates and Pity are exactly the same as Genshin, 160 premium currently per pull, 0.6% of 5* outside of pity, soft pity at 75, hard pity at 90, and there is a 50/50.
For dailies, you get one daily quest and five daily training objectives per day. Completing the daily quest is always one of the daily training objectives, and completing training objectives is what gives you your daily premium currency, along with other stuff like some credits. Other than the daily quest, the daily training objectives are typically stuff like "Defeat 20 enemies," "Break 5 breakable objects," or "Clear one Calyx" (To use another Genshin comparison, basically Genshin's Leylines).
You only have to clear 3 or 4 of the daily training objectives, as some give double credit.
On top of that, you also have Trailblazer Power, which is the same as Original Resin in Genshin, and serves as your "stamina" for getting rewards from Calyxs, bosses, etc. in order to power up your characters.
Just adding, the LC/weapon gacha uses the same guarantee system as characters instead of Genshin's EP or the lack of it previously.
Made it way less painful in getting limited signs.
Non-limited signs are also available in the shop, taking over the 4* weapons in Genshin.
They cost 600 premium shop currency or the equivalent of a whooping 30 rolls (tix cost 20).
The shop currency obtained from rolling is the same as Genshin, only multiplied by 4, so since the tix in the Genshin premium shop cost 5, in SR it cost 20.
The only difference is that characters cost a little bit more, in Genshin they cost 34, but in SR they cost 140 (140 / 4 = 35).

There is no open world so I don't think they bothered with coop. There was a """coop""" event where you and your friends try to take down a boss with limited tries like a similar event in HI3, but other than that and renting your character for certain content, there is no coop. Hopefully they add a permanent coop game mode after launch

I don't know about waifu designs but the gameplay designs for characters are pretty good, they're simple in a vacuum but combined with light cones artifacts and extra talents they can get pretty complex. Also I like that every standart banner 5* has good syngery with some 4* stars

Does taunt even work vs bosses? Why does a character that needs to be hit not even have a way to enable that? She is basically forced to be tied down to another character, what happens when you can't run two dedicated characters because of some other reason? I makes your total choices for team comp much smaller.
IIRC taunt is a character stat so it should work on every enemy except the ones that hit all your allies or ones specifically designed to not be affected by taunt. And yeah that is how Mihoyo designs characters, even the strongest characters in Genshin will be crippled to a halt if you take away their teammate that enables them. Hopefully they release a light cone or another 4 star character that works with Clara, but even now she is pretty strong.

Because taunts and defensive skills are for Preservation characters, so far only fire MC have it. Others like Clara simply increases the chance of getting hit.
Taunt itself is an actual stat that's tied to class/role, Destruction characters has the highest base Taunt stat so they're more likely to be attacked.

That sounds needlessly convoluted. I've never in all my years seen a taunt ability that just kind of works sometimes if it feels like it. I hate characters that have a mechanic that relies on needing another character to function. That almost 100% guarantees them to be extremely niche and quickly forgotten. Of course it had to be the character design that is most unique to the game and the one I liked the most.

One beefs up her counters, one is an instant attack when the battle starts and the other one is your average taunt provoke. It also depends by how much she increases her chances of being attacked because if it's "greatly increased" like it says then it's actually pretty good and even better if you can increase it to a 100% chance via other abilities like March 7th.
And to add to this, Clara seems to be a tanky bruiser. If her numbers are good or remain good through time then she can be still be used later when there's characters that redirect enemy aggro to a certain character like GBF Andira's sage of eternity skill but yeah it is kind of silly having a character based on counters not have a taunt. Should have made her hostility last longer at least instead of 2 turns.

The gimmick of combat is that you have a "skill point reserve" that charges by 1 when you do a basic attack (which deals low damage of your elemental type) and you use the reserve by 1 when you use a skill (the signature of characters) and as you attack and take damage you charge up your ult which you can use for any character as long as it is your turn. Out of combat wise, each character has techniques that give you a bonus when using it to engage combat, but you can only use it limited times, so a party of 4 cant benefit from 4 techniques. There are also artifacts which are like the endgame grind content, which give shit load of stats but the stats are random upon acquiring. So yeah, I would call it an actual turn based rpg, not as good as things like FE or Persona/SMT games mechanics wise but it being free and having extra game modes like a roguelike mode and a rotating mode which gives pull resources. Though the community is trash (as with mihoyo games)
Ill be honest with you, all I got from you is "one skill one ult per char" which sounds exactly like e7, i cant stand these types of games, even FGO at least gives you 3 active skills and an ult per character, i just cant imagine going through an actual RPG like FF where a character is limited to using attack 1 spell like firaga and 1 summon, even if there are a lot of characters it just sounds so braindead

Bro, the characters don't comfort to some basic elements like Genshin, their damage is because of their weapon not some meme powers so yeah, their designs are more unique since not every fire character has to be red or orange to fit their element. And so are their weapons because they don't all have to fit one basic class. It's objectively more unique, cope and seethe.
i agree with the colors-elements part since that is such an obnoxiously bad part of genshin, but most of them are still overdesigned and follow some other design principles instead (asymmetrical capes, weird trinkets and straps all over the clothing)

Wouldn't it be better to reroll for Seele and grab Bronya later down the line? Kafka isn't the first or second banner so she shouldn't be coming for like a month or two which means plenty of time to save.

Honkai's story was completely awful and devoid of any stakes or satisfaction and Genshin plays it really safe so I hope it's a fun read and not a tragedywank like every other chinese game
I've enjoyed the story thus far that has been in the betas. While I wouldn't call it a "tragedy-wank," it does lean more on the HI3rd side than the GI side. Spoilers for the first planet, Jarilo-VI:
You go to a planet that, due to the effects of a Stellaron, has been covered in an eternal winter. The team of protagonists offer their services to seal away the Stellaron to the queen of the planet, only for the queen to betray them and try to have her guards arrest the protagonists. After some investigation and the help of the queen's daughter, you find that the queen's mind has been altered by the Stellaron, which promised her the means to save her people, so she sees any threat to the Stellaron as a threat to her people, despite the opposite being the case. The protagonists eventually kill the queen and seal the Stellaron, but the queen's daughter decides to tell her people that the queen died a noble death in the fight to seal the Stellaron in order to preserve her legacy and honor.

No, the game is still very much modeled after Genshin. With it basically pandering to everyone at the same time while committing to nothing. But the story is indeed more reminiscent of Honkai in its darker themes.
That's what I was getting at though. Honkai 3rd doesn't have darker themes.
It tries to tease dark themes or pretend bad things will happen but in the end nothing happens, everything gets solved by a convenient plot device out of absolutely nowhere and if anything bad actually and truly happens then it gets retconned later on or fixed later on by some asspull.

I think by the end of the 6-weeks-ish long beta I had done 140 limited character banner pulls. I could've gotten more if I no-lifed Hall of Forgotten Memories.
Oops, sorry, I missed the "tutorial" at the end of your post. If memory serves, not many. It mostly gives you standard pulls in the beginning so you can dump into the beginner banner.

NTA, but those sims take some assumptions that are unrealistic. For example:
1: It does not account for Seele's extra turns from killing enemies, something that will come into play in almost every fight in the game. Even primarily single-target bosses almost always have at least 2 adds.
2: For Sushang, he assumed she will be able to take full advantage of her passive that only trigger after she inflicts physical break. Against enemies that don't have a physical weakness, she falls off a cliff.
3: For AoE, he only counted 3 targets. There are a lot of fights where you're up against 4-7 enemies at once, so simming with only 3 targets give an unfair advantage to enemies that primarily do blasts, rather than full AoEs, which is why Serval is shown as above Himeko.
That's a lot better, I want to discuss things and talk about the game so thanks for explaining your point of view.
As for the actual point: Yeah, I think the sims and damage charts is pretty dumb since damage sims usually only compare damage between characters under perfect conditions and real world conditions will never be that perfect but I think the video listed here does a good job of explaining what the character does and how they work (

The teambuilding video seems to do a good job of explaining skill points and how to actually build a team too since nobody has explained that yet or even talked about it.
And if there's a lot of fights with 4-7 enemies at once then I imagine characters like Clara will be gods in there if you can get all 7 to attack her for the fat counters.
I wouldn't say there's "a lot" of battles with 4-7 enemies, but there's enough that assuming every AoE encounter has only 3 is silly. For example, there is a boss that can summon 6 adds at once. Granted, each of these adds is very weak, so you'll likely only require one or two damage instances to kill each one, but chewing through all of them with single target or blast abilities would take significantly more turns than a single AoE.
As for Clara, yes, in fights with a lot of adds she's very useful, but there is a caveat. When she uses her ult and Svarog's counters get buffed, she only gets two uses of this. Additionally, it turns Svarog's counter into a blast ability for those two instances, which can kill adds that haven't attacked yet, which will reduce her overall damage.
I will also give this guy credit, he did teach me something I didn't realize: That Arlan's skill doesn't consume skill points. As I don't like HP-saccing characters I never really tried him out, so I just assumed it consumed his health and a skill point, rather than just his health, as I don't believe the game states anywhere that his skill doesn't consume skill points. That honestly does make him a lot more viable than I initially thought.
