They absolutely did, it's just that honor was achieving victory and dominance for the clan.
The only thing the game does well is bring up the question of what exactly honor is. Is honor sticking to a rigid code about how to lead your people, even if it ultimately boils down to going extinct with dignity? Or is honor holding the principle that a warrior protects his people at all costs and holds that a the prime principle, even if it means turning into a monster?
Too bad about the lazy open world and the shitty Rockstar style quests.

I kinda hate how one direction the story was, only ever took stealth when the story forced it. 99% of the other time I was being a most honorbu sam man running into villages and strongholds like a moron on the hardest difficulty so I had to fight 20 dudes at a time. The last stronghold was like 40 mongols split in two different sections so it wouldn't have been out of line to take them head on.
Considering the best part of the game wasn't even stealth related (when Jin goes berserk) they should have a Samurai route too

People who wanted a samurai route missed the point of the game. That way was dying and those tactics don’t work against a force that refuses to play ball. You have to adapt your tactics. It’s not about being stealthy versus being loud— It’s about being flexible vs. being rigid. In fact, “adapt or die” is a running theme throughout all the side quests too.

Thing is how Jin says the honorable samurai way isn’t working against these foes so resorting to sneaking and poison is necessary, yet you do that one mission with uncle where the two of you siege a camp and beat them as Samurai so clearly it can work.

I loved this game so much. Just recently played it for the first time. Absolute masterpiece. The scene where you unlock ghost stance made me coom. Was disappointed to see that it lost GOTY to the israeli troony game but whatever. Anyone have any thoughts on what the plot to the sequel might be like?
I just played this game and thought it was actually a really good game despite it being ubisoft-esque open world slop. Was certainly a shining gem in that sort of genre.
It's only wise if you have a worthy oponent that adheres to the same code.
