I like Michael Jackson but I find the degree of worship around him to be absurd. He was a kickass musician and dancer who genuinely did a lot of good charity work but I've seen people claim he was literally the Second Coming of Christ. There's recognizing a celebrity is cool and there's Celebrity Worship Syndrome which is a recognized psychological disorder, you guys need to calm down.

I'm amused that MJ became openly anti-media and anti-government over time (Scream, Tabloid Junkie, Money, They Don't Care About Us, etc.), presumably because being a part of the entertainment industry his whole life and being exploited by his parents was really taking a toll on him. Guy was based.

            - Paul tells MJ the beatles rights are for sale and he wants to buy them
            - MJ rather than buying the Beatles just buys the entire company known as ATV outright, giving him over 4,000 songs
            - His associates who were israeli convinced him to change his management team, and talked him into leaving CBS for Sony Music on a 10 year deal
            - Two years later he's coincidentally accused and forced to sell 50% of ATV to Sony
            - After 1995, Sony acts scummy and tries to micromanage Michael's music causing a rift
            - They have a huge fight during Invincible and Sony as a result refuses to play ball
            - MJ splits from Sony while owning 50% of ATV publishing and is later accused before more assets could be bought
            - The debt mounts up and he's forced to sell the other 50% of the catalog or tour again. He does the later, they pressure him to accelerate the schedule so they can maximize profits and demand, he's killed by his doctor and they sell all of his assets which instantly pays off his debt overnight

Yeah pretty much, he was based as frick but it's almost impossible to talk about him online without someone going into a borderline schizophrenic worship of the guy. He was probably one of if not outright THE best pop artist of all time, but man people take it annoyingly far.

When he came to brazil for the first time, a fan ended up breaking his leg due to the shitload of people trying to get closer to him, michael put him on his car and drove him all the way to the best hospital in rio and paid for his medical debts and even kept contact later about it since the guy broke his femur.
And he never asked anything in exchange, he always helped people where he went because he knew what he went through under his father, even his brothers, Latoya and Janet got fricked by Joe's shenanigans.

JB loved him as his Son, and Prince always saw him as his best rival and Friend in the 80's.
And Prince was the guy who would dress himself as TKJ Joker for Batman 89's promos because he loved the comic.

we will never see the likes of the 80's and 90's ever again, in culture, music and everything, since the world post 2001 and later 2007 became a shit parody of itself.

India - About 6,500 gun-toting police officers joined hundreds of private security guards to provide protection for Michael Jackson
Romania - A spokesperson said 22,000 armed police officers and security guards were sworn in to ensure Jackson's protection
Czech - Bigger than the Pope, thousands of people turned up at the airport, others climbed the roofs of buildings and trees, the security force caused multiple traffic jams and took up [5 floors] of the international hotel
Brazil - 1,500 policemen and 50 residents acting as security guards effectively sealed off the Santa Marta favela.
England - 25,000 people gate crashed the concert, there were mounted police officers at Liverpool in Riot gear and 1,500 people ended up getting hurt in a crush with medical officials treating over 3,500 for injuries.

I used to think of Micheal Jackson as just another singer/entertainer. A dime-a-dozen clown performing for the masses with attention heaped onto them due to the way Hollywood works.
It wasn't till I got older that I realized how insanely talented he was in his domain. He was a once-in-a-lifetime talent. Not because he was the absolute best singer/dancer in the world or anything, but because he had great vision and passion for entertainment and melded many aspects of a piece of entertainment into a whole in a way few have even imitated.

He wasn't the 2nd coming of Christ, but we're unlikely to see another like him for a while.

It's like how people worship Taylor Swift to a degree, people will just take the biggest pop star and blow it out of proportion to the point that whole governments will start to bend into it. The difference is that Michael Jackson was actually extremely talented and a once in a generation event that redefined fashion, entertainment, and what it means to be cool. Taylor Swift just somewhat competently follows pre-existing trends and the degree to which people are losing their shit over her genuinely disturbs me.

Michael Jackson was insanely famous and profitable. The level where Hollywood makes inconvenient things disappear (especially pre-internet).
The fact that he was cast into doubt right as he was getting vocal about the sordid shit in Hollywood in more indicative of him being thrown under the bus to protect pedos than him actually being a pedo.

Why is no one actually discussing the Moonwalker video game?

      Anonymous

MJ threads are always about if he did or didn't do it (he didn't) and how he's the second coming of Christ. Sometimes it's about how he was based for being a Segachad, sometimes about his hatred of israelites, but overall they're just about MJ himself over his games.

Moonwalker is okay although the gameplay becomes atrocious by the third stage, wouldn't play it again but the Mega Drive renditions of the tracks were kinda cool.

That hasn't been the case in like 10 years dude, they actively shit on Death Grips and Kanye now. Ganker's actually kind of in a giga-contrarian cycle right now where they're contrarian against the stuff they used to like specifically. So pop threads are the most active on the board, both Kpop and Wpop, while most discussion revolves around entry-level bands like Nirvana or The Beatles while they shit on stuff like Radiohead and Crystal Castles that they used to adore.

Ganker does like MJ, they just rarely discuss him because he's seen as someone where most things have already been discussed. Sort of like how they also like Elvis and Frank Sinatra but you rarely see threads on either of them either. Ganker isn't really as overtly contrarian as most people think and in fact their tastes have become a lot more pedestrian over the last 5 years.

              Anonymous

What's Ganker's take on Bing Crosby?
Or is Sinatra as old as they tend to go?

I mostly knew him for Christmas songs and was surprised to find out how many songs he recorded.

                Anonymous

They like Crosby too, most of the "Original pop" acts like members of the Rat Pack are actually pretty well-received on Ganker. Same thing with foundational rock with people like Chuck Berry and Elvis. Discussion about them is rare but mostly pretty positive, music doesn't actually get polarizing for them until the 60s, the only period before then that they outright dislike is 1946 - 1953.

Oh and also they get really, really into debates about Classical musicians, but that's like its own embedded world inside of Ganker.

                >get really, really into debates about Classical musicians

I can remember 'Moonlight Sonata", I can't remember "piano no. 3 fugue concerto no.6 in g minor no. 4 with ares ascending"

Good music though. Surprised how much I enjoyed Tchaikovsky;s Romeo and Juliet, but it's slow getting into it.

Beethoven and Mozart, although if you asked Ganker you'd be told that Bach was superior to both of them. Jokes aside probably some of the big acts from the 60s through 90s will be seen in a similar light to classical musicians since they've had the most actual staying power. Everything after that just kind of falls off.

As he dusted off his cheetohs
Was a sound of "FRICK Black folkS"
    He heated a hotpocket
    Cum-stained tissues on his carpet
He was sitting at his table
    Mad that anons were ungrateful
So he deleted the whole thread now
    Shut it all down
    Nothing allowed

Janny are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Janny?
Janny are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Janny?
Janny are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Janny?
Janny are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Janny?

    Janny are you okay?
Will you tell us, that you're okay?
There's a thread on the first page
And he dabbed you, a tuxedo, Janny
He came into your report cue
Left the Pepe, saying "FRICK YOU"
And then you cried to the mod too
    You were dabbed on
    It was your doom

Janny are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Janny?
Janny are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Janny?
Janny are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Janny?
Janny are you okay, are you okay, are you okay Janny?

    You've been memed by
    You've been dabbed by
    A cute criminal

He had half his scalp burnt off and was losing melanin.
You think looking like a white chocolate dalmatian wouldn't look worth than a ghoul?

How did a black man become the most beloved figure in our times

He was a humanitarian who visited the poorest countries in the third world constantly, his music was about unity and cultural issues like race, climate change, animals, oppressiveness, children etc. MJ's music resonates with everyone and his messages have different meaning to cultures and ethnic groups around the world. You could play his music during a cultural festival, during a funeral, a race riot, weddings, birthday party, schools or you could go to the middle east, Africa, China or Indian huts and play his music, people will like it.
He's got insane amounts of mass appeal
