This franchise is so far into diminishing returns territory, that I don't think it can dig itself out of that.
Nobody's going to care about the new characters, and nobody's going to care about the new protagonist. It's going to be more slop, like everything else Bioware makes. I strongly doubt Bioware sells 4-5 million copies of Dragon Age, to be able to justify its existence further, to make another Mass Effect.

The story should revolve around your crew exploring knew civs like SG1 with the reaper space travel technology.
The interaction with new worlds and the overall story could be pretty like SG1 and as the story evolves, species from the milk way will slowly appear on those new worlds.
