Those predictions were made before the shale revolution when the US went from being dependent on the middle east to overnight being both completely energy-independent AND the world's largest exporter of oil. And Canada and Mexico are right next door doing it as well.
The reality is thanks to fracking, we have no idea when the oil will run out because now we have access to 100x the oil we did before.

Can you guarantee that. What were to happen if say Africa continues to grow in population and the west no longer holds leverage to suppress their growth? Or what if China and Russia decide to ascribe their women as second class citizens and throw them back into the kitchens in the hope's that they'll start to raise their native population? It's fun to make little predictions on what path countries will take going into the future, but plans on the ground don't always go according to how you put them on paper.

It's happened literally everywhere else in the world, industrialization brings about a drop in birthrate once kids turn from free labor into an economic burden to raise. It's too late. Demographic collapse once you realize it's there isn't a problem you can fix now, it's a problem you needed to fix 20 years ago. China was going to go down that road anyway as they industrialized, the one-child policy just massively kicked it into overdrive and put the process on speedrunner mode. There will be less than a billion people in China within 30 years without some change so monumental that no government is capable of doing it.

We were going to run out of trees for paper at one time, with the digital revolution it suddenly stopped being a problem, it's important to think about these issues, but the way to solve them is not by shackling industrial output and technological advances.

But again, don't put your ENTIRE economy into one thing because in 2008 oil prices crashes and dropped from $200 a barrel to $32 a barrel. Now that's bad for any energy sector, but when the energy sector is your ENTIRE ECONOMY that means your entire system just got reduced to less than 1/6 of what it was before. That's disastrous.

If there is one advantage of the Saudi system, it's the ego of the leadership which compels them to make sure their city reflects their status as world class aristocrats. Despite how much liberals complain, Saudi Arabia is often ranked as one of the safest countries on the planet and violent crime is not a problem anywhere.
