Hot take, apparently

I liked grinding, actually.
Call it padding all you want, but it was nice to have to earn every level on every pokemon I wanted to train. It wasn't "hard" but it sold the experience in a way that the new games just don't anymore. Its not even just the exp share, but stuff like autobattling, exp candies, and so on, just make it way too easy to rocket the levels of your pokemon way up with minimal effort. Sure, you could technically always grind up to be overleveled, but before it took an amount of time and effort that felt fair, it felt like a sufficient barrier. Nowadays, there's no barrier anymore, you have to actively choose not to overlevel yourself because its so easy to do so that the only reason not to is an intrisic desire to avoid making the game too easy. It really hollows out the experience in a way I'm not a fan of, personally.

moron, with how gen 5 scales xp this would still be way more work than doing a couple raids and using xp candy. Show in game clock.

Playing the game normally is work?

You’re missing the point, it’s not that you couldn’t overlevel in the old games, it’s that doing so required a proportional amount of investment into a given Mon. You posting an overleveled Pokémon changes nothing, since every single one of those levels was still earned legitimately

If you are taking more than 6 hours to beat the league you're grinding A LOT.

So this is the hot take thread?

The Pokemon community does not "deserve" any more fossil Pokemon considering all the shit that was (and still is) given to Aurorus and the gen 8 fossils. I may get flamed for this but some things need to be said. So what if Aurorus has a bad typing (muh 4× weakness to Steel that Aurorus is singled out for despite Carbink, Diancie, Alolan Ninetales, and Hisuian Avalugg having it as well) and that the gen 8 fossil Pokemon are "muh abominations" when they're very clearly supposed to represent the bone wars era of paleontology due to being mismatched (like how the iguanodo's thumb was initially mistaken as a nose). You just want to shit on Pokemon for the sake of it and it clearly shows to the point it sticks out like SpongeBob's thumb when there's a splinter.

Does Aurorus really get shit on that much? I never see people hating it. I love that Pokemon, don't care if it's got a x4 weakness. As long as it's usable in the main story I'm good.

Aurorus is shit because it has 2 x4 weaknesses, 4 x2 weaknesses and only 4 resistances with 0 immunities while also being the "slow & fragile Ice type" archetype.

Aurorus is shit because you’re a campaignshitter who’s trying to use it like a sweeper instead of capitalizing on its strengths.

totally agree, I kind of miss the tedium of grinding Pokemon. Sure, I maybe wouldn't call it "fun" to grind Chansey or Audino or whichever, but having a level 100 in the switch titles is a 15 minute postgame errand, and sure, that is more convenient, but it also takes away a lot of the satisfaction from finally achieving level 100.
Same goes for shit like natures, abilities, IVs (although I'm less passionate about these getting streamlines), and shinies getting increasingly more common since B2W2. Every cool attribute a Pokemon had in the old games had to be earned, it felt like each Pokemon in my boxes was more important. If you don't feel any value in overcoming the tedium then I get why you like these QOL changes, but for me it's taken some of the fun away.

Frogposting aside, I actually agree with this. Reminds me of a point in Zero Punctuation that went something like this:
    >if you just spawn a bunch of ragdolls and explosives in Garrys Mod, there's not much of a sense of accomplishment blowing them up
    >if you have to work to build your golden wiener and balls in Minecraft, you'll love it all the more
Shit like IVs requires too much work and esoteric knowledge in earlier gens, but I find myself valuing the time spent building a Pokemon (for Battle Tower/Frontier, Ribbon Master etc). My Gen 3 and 4 Frontiermons are my bros.

One thing I do miss is the player-made Secret Bases in ORAS, the ones fully stocked with suicidal level 100 Blisseys for grinding levels.

blissey grinding is fine because it works within the established mechanics of using your Pokemon in a battle to gain XP, it's just the most-optimized version of that mechanic.
It's in stark contrast to doing some raid for 10 minutes and getting enough candy to take a level 1 mon to level 50 without needing to so much as send it out of it's ball.

idk why they didn't make it something you can ignore, like with the bottlecaps for ivs (which I hate). The problem could have been fixed so easy by just adding an option button for how leveling works
