you haven't played gta online, have you? hackers ignore passive mode. go ahead and look up videos of someone using something called stand, the website is stand dot gg. go look at the features of the ultimate edition, and then realize over 1/4 of the total playerbase on PC uses at least one version of stand. that's just one mod menu, there are hundreds of them.
I play it all the time, modders basically do nothing now compared to when the game first came out and they'd be exploding whole sessions and TPing people all at once.
that still happens, I reinstalled a week ago and was immediately teleported to cayo perico and had enough ferris wheels teleported on top of me that it crashed the game. If console versions don't have this problem, it would be one of the few times I would ever say a console version of a game is better than the PC version, because rockstar does not give a monkey's ass about people hacking, except for spawning free money for people.

Rockstars use P2P model for online modes, this way they don't have to keep game servers and so save money.
And it's very hard, if possible at all, to make anti-cheat for P2P.

It holds up ok, but it's far from the perfect, the whole lighting and shadow system changes completely depending on which patch you use, and no one patch includes the best of either lighting system, you either have full dynamic lighting with every light source casting proper shadows on everything (frick it's beautiful at night) but introduce a bunch of lighting bugs or gimped shitty console lighting but relatively bug free, and the shadows are just a crosshatched clusterfrick of shit.
Mind you a "remaster" wouldn't fix it because they'd just farm it out to poos who would implement some fricking horrid half assed even more gimped lighting system that all awful remasters seem to end up with.
It's sad as well because GTA IV still has one of the best lighting systems ever in a game, even today it's so far ahead of anything else. RDR 2 did some really impressive atmospheric stuff, but GTA IV has genuine full dynamic lighting.
