JRPGs are usually more than happy to let you accidentally interact with the wrong thing and immediately proceed into a cutscene that renders all previously accessible content inaccessible.
It's called a secret, you're not supposed to know.
This is backwards logic. Tell me why Dragon Quest keeps giving me yes and no options when saying no only makes the npc repeat their textbox until I hit yes.
>Shadow: I'd never be able to rest in peace if I died without collecting my pay...
1) not what he says.
https://legendsoflocalization.com/final-fantasy-vi/part-11/#shadows-promise
2) which shitty relocalization "uncensored!" that line but obfuscated the hint?
It wasn't a hint so much as a poorly conveyed "do you trust me?"
I think they meant "COUNT ON IT!" to be the hibt, as in, to count "it" down (the timer).
You're giving Woosley too much credit that he knew hidden mechanics. Dude just got an excel document and was told to translate it.
"Count on it" is just "Trust me" with a bit of flourish to it.
You have to have faith in your buddy anon, that's what it was getting at. You have faith that he will return because Shadow is best bro. Interceptor best dog. Frick, I love that game.
He's Relms father. Women dont have a dick and balls
In WoR in the SNES one in the cave on the Veldt they call Shadow a she, since you can also find Realm there if you don’t wait for Shadow. So this started confusion back in the day that Shadow was a woman, and since the dream sequences were fairly hidden, it was more likely you only saw Shadow getting called a woman.
Aren't they all save for Celes and Terra (and Setzer too I guess since he gives you the airship)? Also, he's a nice addition party-wise if you have lots of shit to throw. Double defense-ignoring damage you can target is nothing to sneeze at, and you don't have to teach him shit, plus his best equipment is fairly easy to get. Only Sabin maxes out his potential more easily.
Yeah I know, I meant in regards to the story. Edgar is required, but he doesn't really contribute much to the plot in the WoR, whereas Setzer at least does so in terms of being absolutely necessary for them to even get to fight Kefka at all, not to mention escape from the tower.
Indeed, though he still evades a lot thanks to Interceptor. Still, I like to keep him with a Thief Knife equipped since it gives him +10 MBlock and +3 Speed, which is always nice.
I found a rom that patched the evade bug but didn't make any other changes to the game. I've meaning to play through it again with that patched version, focusing on speed and the characters and items that utilize a high evade stat- Locke, Shadow, White Cape. I just want to see what I've been missing because of the bug.
>Shadow joins your party >give him all your best weapons, armor, and relics >Shadow leaves your party
Eh, honestly, you're not missing a whole lot. The game's so easy it really doesn't matter a whole lot. Like, sure, Locke and Shadow get hit less by physicals, but for the most part those aren't even the attacks you're usually worried about unless they're in the front row, and Locke is one of the only characters that should ever be there. It does, of course, nerf the ridiculous 128 MBlock setups that make you nigh invincible.

Someone here said they were doing a playthrough where they try to minimize leveling to take advantage of the esper bonuses later and I thought that might be fun to increase the challenge at the beginning a bit and then maximize stats in the end game.
I really liked this one and I'm always looking for new ways to play it. I went down the game genie code rabbit hole and came very close to doing some things that were always thought to be impossible. The airship glitch really opens up a lot of possibilities. There are several 'walk through walls' gg codes out there, but came up with one that works better than all the others.

Ah, then that's a different story. I myself tried something like that, except I more or less stopped leveling altogether at around levels 19 to 22. The final bosses were still rather trivial, but mostly because of the absolutely busted 128 MBlock setups, which also come with high Magic Defense for those attacks that happen to be unblockable (save for shit like Meteor that will frick your shit up no matter what, of course). Without that crutch, I do imagine the game becomes quite a bit more difficult at those lower levels.
That's how chests work. You put stuff in them now to get more valuable stuff later. It's like the chest that I put a bunch of new factory sealed games in back in the 80s and 90s, it's worth millions of dollars now.
Imagine if you wait, then the game ends and you have to fight Atma again and all those battles then than one b***h again and spend the rest of your night getting back to the same spot before your mom makes you turn it off before bed and school tomorrow.
Initially he did, which story wise makes no sense since he wanted to take revenge on them.
No, he doesn't. It's never stated the Empire are the ones who killed Baram, if that's what you're referring to. He's a man who has killed his emotions and sells his services to the highest bidder. He only comes to dislike them just before the Floating Continent takes flight, as apparently they tried to kill him and Interceptor at that point.
I didn't know, I jumped right away because that's what I did when Sabin got to the waterfall. Dive in head first anon! Nevermind the consequences. Shadow is a stupid merc anyway.
You aren't, that's why it's a secret.
But if you play enough games you'd know by game designer logic if they gave you a prompt with an option of waiting in a timed sequence there is a point in doing so, otherwise you would jump automatically.
>Anon goes to family gathering >His young niece is there >Anons dad goes up and says "Aww, what a cute little granddaughter I have." >Anon starts screeching about how he's related to a pedophile and his dad deserves the rope for wanting to bang his granddaughter
You are aware you can find people cute but also not want to have sexual relations with them, right?
Stop watching porn, you creep.
>recruit shadow >he sucks in battle >leaves arbitrarily >I now hate the character too >im against the clock, never once considered waiting >get online years later and learn he can survive >still never bothered waiting
My "favorite" thing about Shadow is how his best weapons inflict instant death and they always give them to you before or during dungeons filled with undead enemies.
My "favorite" thing about Shadow is how his best weapons inflict instant death and they always give them to you before or during dungeons filled with undead enemies.
Christ, guys, did you ever even try Throw? Even regular-ass Shurikens do good damage and are cheap as frick, and his elemental skeans and scrolls are more powerful than level 2 elemental spells. Literally git gud.
>Sabin
Good, powerful abilities, but you can't choose your target. He also has worse equipment options. >Edgar
Shadow out-damages even Chainsaw with basic b***h Ninja Stars, let alone stronger weapons like the Falchion. Equipment options are much better, though. >have to buy ammo
homie what else are you going to do with all that cash in the WoR? By that point you're flush with money and all the best shit is found in chests or at the Colosseum. I'm not saying Shadow is the best character or anything (I'd definitely put Edgar above him, at least), just that he is good once you load him up, which you should at least do for Kefka's Tower.
They are indeed strong, but honestly, Falchions are not that far off and can be store-bought. They are a bit expensive, but by that point you pretty much won't be buying jack shit anyway besides maybe tents, so you ought to have enough to max out or nearly so. It's also a good idea to buy elemental weapons, so Shadow can do crazy damage to enemies weak to elements. Shame that the only good Wind-elemental weapon you can get en-masse can only be bought in the WoB, though.

Anything a zoomer does is a product of something they’ve seen on social media. The zoomer mind is completely incapable of original thought. I doubt most zoomers even play FF6, instead they watch some twitch homosexual do a letsplay.
It's honestly such a depressing thought. We have an entire generation of hypochondriacs raised on everything the internet tells them and the internet tells them everything.

ask yourself why it would even give you an option
What a Black person tier reply. Plenty of RPGs have misdirection
JRPGs are usually more than happy to let you accidentally interact with the wrong thing and immediately proceed into a cutscene that renders all previously accessible content inaccessible.
>option is specifically "wait" and not just "no"
what did you think you were waiting for dum dum

FF7 so I could play an actually good game.
How disappointed were you when it came outnand you had to keep waiting?

Yes he did you fricking moron. He says a similar line in the SNES script as well.
Shadow: Forget about me! Run! There's no stopping this now! I'll find my way back! Trust me!
Kefka: You can't escape me!
Party: Shadow... Come on! We have to get out of here!
(Upon battling Nelapa.)
Nelapa: Mwa-ha-ha... You think I'm going to let you escape?
(Upon reaching the airship.)
On-screen: The airship's below.
(Upon selecting "(Jump!)", continue.)
(Upon selecting "(Wait.)", nothing happens.)
(Upon reaching the airship again after declining the first time.)
(Upon selecting "(Jump!)", continue.)
(Upon selecting "(Gotta wait for Shadow...)", nothing happens.)
(While near the airship when the timer ends.)
Party: Shadow!
Shadow: I'd never be able to rest in peace if I died without collecting my pay...
It takes a special level of stupid to assume "find my way back" meant "I'll escape this crumbling landmass on my own!"
>"forget about me, I'll find my own way back"
>by this he clearly meant to wait for him
Read between the lines, man.
>b-baka! i-it's not like I wanted you to wait for me or anything!
He's not surprise you, you're supposed to surprise him with your sense of heroic loyalty.

There's nothing between the lines.
FF6 was released before Chrono Trigger but I guess you probably knew that already.

Story tells you to wait for him, game gives you an option to wait for him, clearly it's trying to tell you something.
never leave a bro behind
the only cool gay character in cinema history
>goes on to be completely irrelevant for the rest of the game
Might as well let him die so he can be remembered as a hero.
Aren't they all save for Celes and Terra (and Setzer too I guess since he gives you the airship)? Also, he's a nice addition party-wise if you have lots of shit to throw. Celes, Edgar, Setzer are the only required characters.
Cetzgar

I jumped. Who picks "wait" in a video game? I want to play, not sit there and twiddle my thumbs.
then you shouldn't care about some minor story difference with no gameplay impact
If you aren't moronic you'd probably realize if there's an option to wait then there's something you can obtain by waiting.
how was I supposed to know not to loot the chest now so I can loot it for better loot in the future?
That's how chests work. You put stuff in them now to get more valuable stuff later. It's like the chest that I put a bunch of new factory sealed games in back in the 80s and 90s, it's worth millions of dollars now.
hope you remembered to add flavor packets, otherwise enjoy your box of rot
Gamestop found them and opened them, now they're only Like New
By playing Chrono Trigger which was released before FF6.
How were you supposed to know not to care?
Imagine if you wait, then the game ends and you have to fight Atma again and all those battles then than one b***h again and spend the rest of your night getting back to the same spot before your mom makes you turn it off before bed and school tomorrow.
That’s why.
why would anyone even consider leaving without spaghetti western theme song ninja was even an option?
Answer me this:
Why can't they get on the ship and wait for Shadow there?
Checkmate FF6 gays.
BTW half of the people pretending they were smarth enough to figure this out on their own got the tip from a magazine or similar.
if shadow is a merc why didn't he just sell his services to the empire i'm sure they pay better
>b-baka! i-it's not like I joined your party just to spend time with you, I-I'm just doing it for the money, okay?!
Initially he did, which story wise makes no sense since he wanted to take revenge on them.
Hey it worked for Char.
He does later on.
The timer is there to give you security while you wait.
You have nothing to lose by just waiting to see whether or not he will come.
Sitting still while a timer counts down isn't my idea of fun. Sorry Shadow.
>How am I supposed to know?
Listen to your heart and take that chance!
I didn't know, I jumped right away because that's what I did when Sabin got to the waterfall. Dive in head first anon! Nevermind the consequences. Shadow is a stupid merc anyway.

Relm getting Intercepter is better anyways.
that's a boy
Friendly reminder that there is official artwork from that hack Amano of Relm with breasts. She's 10, by the fricking way. Pedos get the rope.
You've got to go back.
You can post a picture of a cute animu gril without necessarily wanting to frick it, Anon.
>Anon goes to family gathering

Stop watching porn, you creep.
I've never played a Final Fantasy game in my life and I don't know who that is, but that's a nice flat chest...!
you weren't supposed to know, that's why it's a secret
It is hinted that you should wait. But Shadow is a hidden bonus character like Mog. Just the most obvious of the hidden characters.
he dies in the ending.
>recruit shadow

Sure enough, the Shadow Defense Force out in numbers. Sabin and Edgar don't need to buy ammo for their abilities.
>Sabin
Good, powerful abilities, but you can't choose your target. He also has worse equipment options.

Shadow out-damages even Chainsaw with basic b***h Ninja Stars, let alone stronger weapons like the Falchion. Equipment options are much better, though.

throwing imp halberds does crazy damage and you can just get more while grinding in the dragon forest
They are indeed strong, but honestly, Falchions are not that far off and can be store-bought. I'm not grinding an already easy game.
World of Ruin kinda sucks
Personally I read about it in EGM
At this point, you c**ts are either trolling or complete NPC’s
>Kills himself in the end
Fricking hell Shadow, just get in the airship and take responsibility for your daughter.
>Edgar says this line about Shadow
>Later on you learn Shadow's backstory
Frick people who like Woosley's translation jokes. This is a pure kino line.
I can't leave without my buddy Shadow.
>He doesn't try things just for the frick of it to see what happens.
>B... but then I might have to actually play the game again!!
I let that fricker die in my first play-through. I haven't got time for your shit. Frick Shadow.
My friends who watched me play were horrified.
