How am I supposed to know what classes to day and what spells are good? Unironically shit like mass effect 2 for the builds makes this way less annoying

Don't be a minmax homosexual. Pick whatever looks cool or what you think fits the character best
Tbf my first character was a bard and the game gives you pretty bad stats
Leaving you with 13 dex 13 con and 17 cha
It would be better to bring down chat and make those other numbers even
Other then that I agree with you
Just ignore all that, randomly pick a character background, a class, and a sub-class.
Then make decisions based on that character.
Makes the game way more enjoyable when you're not worrying about min-max bullshit. Just do what said. Also don't savescum unless your game crashes or something. Whenever I run into a difficult check, I do it once, reload and try with a different party member, then just accept whatever happens.
Rolling with whatever happens makes me enjoy the game that much more.
>Whenever I run into a difficult check, I... reload and try with a different party member
Filtered baby lol
It isn't even minmax. I just want shit that won't be 100% useless in combat
Fighter/Paladin
Rogue
Cleric
Wizard
Respec shadowheart into a light cleric. There, the game is now easy mode assuming you're playing on standard difficulty. This is as vanilla and newb friendly as it gets and it's a very strong composition.
If you're not playing on tactician, you don't really have to worry about such things. And if you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't be playing on tactician anyway. Pick what you want, experiment and learn.
I'm playing on explorer mode and still have died a lot.
For one thing their leveling is so bad. You might think level 5s are okay to fight as a level 4. You would be wrong, as a level 5 is at least TWICE as powerful as a level 4
My team of level 4s beat a level 5 Spectator/Beholder. You're incorrect
Play any class you want and read the spell descriptions? Press "T" when mousing over things for a better description. Look at what the saving throw is for the spell type too, a spell that has a Dex saving throw isn't going to be as likely to land against enemies who have high Dex etc.
>You would be wrong, as a level 5 is at least TWICE as powerful as a level 4
Lolno.
How do you figure? Level 5s get another action, and they are more powerful at baseline. So id say a a level 5 is around 150% of a level 4. The power spike is insanely big.
>How do you figure?
Because no fight exists in a vacuum, there is always a way to get an advantage or shut down higher level characters. If you're walking around half beat up with all your skills used up that's on you.
Only some martial classes get 1 extra attack at 5, not more actions. Just use a cc to target the weakest save. Disarm them or stun them or make them waste actions on things other than attacking. Same tactic no matter the lvl
>read
I'm playing balanced and I really only lost when I fricked up a roll and then whatever way it made me start combat it made me start with my dudes bunched up and one of them falling and hurting himself. Anytime I've know a fight was coming I was fine
Warlock Eldritch blast
Aim for the holes
I just 1 shot the big spider under blitted village
And got an achievement for It
Warlocks are the perfect class for ppl that don't normally play casters
i killed the level 8 grymforge boss with level 5 party on tactician without using the forge
hammers are very effective
can't wait to hammer a bear
with my penis
i used the hammer that prones on critical. it also procs on critical miss. and theres no save.
They are, baiting the damn thing into the anvil after heating takes more effort than just going full Unga Bunga on it with a club wielding barbarian.
You can't be serious. have a nice day immediately.
That's just how the powercurve is. Level 5 is when spellcasters finally come online with fireball. Don't think anyone is going to survive a level 5 sorc that does 2 fireballs in 1 turn
Yeah, you're a fricking moron.
Quit thinking of it that way. What would your character want?
If you haven't read the PHB at least once in your life then you are not the target audience. Simply uninstall and refund the game.
>How am I supposed to know what classes to day and what spells are good?
You don't. It's a *roleplaying* game.
Just dont pick ranger its boring as hell and useless
I'm an Eldridge knight fighter with the black, the frog and Shadowheart. I plan on trading the frog away when I get the reddit barbarian girl. I want to use the barbarian girl and shadowheart. I saw something that said your 4 players need to be able to
>talk to people
>do "utility stuff"
>melee combat
>magic aoe shit
>healing
So I plan I guess to use shadowheart as healing and lock picking ect, the PC and black as AOE magic, the black as talking, and the cring chick and my player character as damage/tanks
Never use a half caster to do a full caster job like AoE. Eldritch knights are frontliners, same as every other fighter. Lock picking is also a dex skill and Shadowheart is a wis caster. Take the vampire dude for lockpicking and single target damage. Go for Gale as your AoE and utility b/c wizards are going to be easier to learn than warlocks. Clerics are generally a good pick tho.
the whole point was I wanted to take shadowheart and the barbarian girl
How is it useless? I'm playing a High Elven Beastmaster and never had any issues with checks, traps or locks. Can scout with familiars and companions are useful as frick, the spider in early game and the bear later on when you can just goad 10+ people onto it at once. You also get a Haste bow at the start of Act 2 that lasts until endgame.
It's fricking 5e. It's an absolutely brainless system, how much more do they need to dumb shit down before you morons are satsified
i am not playing this game until there is a full walkthrough and build suggestion.
why is 12 the max level when in 5e it's 20? I was level 12 before I got into the lower city and not gaining levels makes side quests feel less gratifying
they admitted to not knowing how to make encounters/balance them/program and design the spells past 12th level and WotC statistically found out a majority of campaigns don't pass 12-14th level
>WotC statistically found out a majority of campaigns don't pass 12-14th level
because their game's balance totally falls apart after level 11 lol.
people talk a lot of shit on 5e for a lot of reasons of various legitimacy, but one of the undeniable flaws of the system is that it becomes a mess at high levels.
Every game needs a mod for autistic completionists to slow down leveling.
You don't even need to be autistic. I rushed through the game and didn't bother to complete a lot of side quests. I still hit the cap a few hours into act 3. They should nerf the exp gain slightly if they aren't going to raise the level cap.
The last patch of D:OS2 made it so you have to do every single sidequest in the game just to barely stay in the intended level in every area, careful what you wish for.
Yeah i was seriously let down when i realized i stopped levelling... I just started act 3 and now theres no progress to look forward to.
5e balance falls apart past level 12, also I don’t know how they’d program all the OP shit casters can do late game. Maybe they’d attempt it as a DLC but it would be sectioned off from the main game understandably
Just focus the DLC exclusively on powerful BG2 characters that were left out and throw dragons, liches, etc at the party. I'm bored of frickers like Gale and Shadowheart. Give me Korgan and Jan.
>I'm bored of frickers like Gale and Shadowheart.
I JUST WANT A NORMAL FRICKING COMPANION THAT I CAN BE BROS WITH THAT DOESN'T IMMEDIATELY TURN GAY. WHY ARE THERE NO DIALOGUE OPTIONS OF ME JUST CHILLING AND SHOOTING THE SHIT WITH PEOPLE? WHY DOES EVERYTHING NEED TO BE FLIRTATOUS OR SNARKY?
Swen was convinced by the larian forum troons that all his audience are coomers
Have you seen what casters can do in a single turn with one 6th level spell?
Hasted 6 attack fighters can't even hope to compete and 12th level is basically their peak.
The game allows you to respec very, very easily. Pick whatever sounds most interesting to you. Just make sure your characters' main stats are maxed (e.g. Int for Wizard, Charisma for Sorc, Str for Fighter, etc.). The leveling process is pretty straight forward; each option gives a pretty good description.
I do wish they would have showed full class progression at character creation, but I can understand why they wouldn't (because it might overwhelm new players).
god I hate mmo homosexuals that are incapable of picking a class for fun
One of the guys I’m playing with constantly references the guide he is using and how gear we find is “best in slot” for him, actually makes me grit my teeth
I don't know what it is about fifth edition but MMO minmaxers can't get enough of it. It's not just BG3. Every game based on 5e is just filled to the brim with those frickers.
>I don't know what it is about fifth edition but MMO minmaxers can't get enough of it.
MMOs stole a lot from D&D so for them it's like playing a strategy game based on their favorite MMO.
just pick something homosexual
Learn how advantage and disadvantage works. That's literally all you need to know.
As a forever DM of 20 years who has shepherded countless new people: Always Take Mage Hand. It is never the wrong choice. Mage hand always has applications, some of which can be the difference between life or death. Do you want to die? Or do you wanna shove some homosexual goblin off a cliff? Take Mage Hand.
Mage hand feels nerfed as frick in BG3 tbh. It's such a class defining feature with Arcane Trickster and I rarely use it. Meanwhile Assassin is busted as frick, the complete opposite of its iteration in 5e... shit huts my brain man.
How do I even pick my own skills? It just gives me them on level up and tells me I can't multi-class.
Play further.
The game is very easy, even on tactician mode. But, if you don't know anything about the classes, let me do a quick rundown.
>Barbarian: Go melee, go naked, get angry, hit hard. Strength>Constitution>Dexterity>Wisdom=Charisma>Intelligence
- Bard: Charisma-based support. No much healing, plenty of buffing/de-buffing. Charisma>Dexterity=Constitution>Wisdom=Intelligence>Strength
>Cleric: probably the strongest/most versatile class. Can tank, heal, buff, hit hard. Wisdom>Constitution>Dexterity=Strength>Intelligence=Charisma
- Druid: Nature-based cleric, not as strong, still strong enough. Wisdom>Dexterity=Constitution>Intelligence=Charisma>Strength.
>Fighter: the classic that never disappoints. Strength-OR-Dexterity>Constitution>Strength-OR-Dexterity>Wisdom>Intelligence=Charisma
-Monk: Nimble unarmed fighter. Dexterity>Wisdom>Constitution>Strength=Intelligence=Charisma
>Paladin: cleric and fighter in-between. Tanks, heals, and does single-target annihilation. Strength>Charisma>Dexterity=Constitution>Wisdom>Intelligence.
-Ranger: druid and fighter in-between. Don't be afraid to do some melee combat every once in a while. Dexterity>Wisdom>Constitution>Charisma=Intelligence=Strength
>Sorcerer: damage-focused Spellcaster. Only take spells that don't seem situational. Charisma>Constitution=Dexterity>Wisdom>Intelligence>Strength
- Warlock: sorcerer and fighter in-between. Not the best explanation, but it is what it is. Charisma>Constitution=Dexterity>Wisdom>Intelligence>Strength. Same as the sorcerer.
>Wizard: the Swiss army knife of Spellcasters. Exceedingly fragile at the start. All the utility, a lot of blasting. Intelligence>Dexterity>Constitution>Wisdom>Strength=Charisma
>mfw siding with Gortash causes me to break my oath
This guy seems pretty based I dont see why
I've been playing BG1 and honestly it depends on literally every single interaction. Part of the fun is failing and having to come back with a better and more developed game plan.
Holy frick just pick cool shit what the frick is your problem
Fricking zoomies
>to day
>mass effect 2
honestly, my main problem isn't the classes, but how the AI fights/chooses targets.
like I don't know if its just a Tactician thing, but the AI always fights like an absolute butthole DM constantly hyper focusing any character who has concentration, always targeting whoever has the lowest AC, even if you have someone closer and the worst of all, targeting/attacking characters who were downed and making death saving throws]
it makes the AI extremely boring to fight because it becomes predictable, it means that I know my 16AC wizard and rogue will always be targeted first no matter how far away I make them, meanwhile the 22AC paladin and Fighter both almost never get targeted by enemies unless they are the only two left
but I can then force the AI into attacking the paladin by having them waste a turn to concentrate on any spell, and instantly they become a target and tank, causing every enemy to target them exclusively until the concentration breaks
it also means that summons like undead/familiars are equally useless, and only good for momentary distractions when you need to buy time because they will always be the first target if they are within attack range
>summons are useless
The strongest spell in the game is the one that summons 6 ghouls
this is such a fricking boring game its actually unbelievable
>rogue
sneak and shoot arrow for moronic damage
>cleric
buff shit or heal because she fricking sucks ass at hitting enemies
>fighter
move and left click thats literally it
>mage
pick spell and watch as it does shit damage or misses
clerics are not heal bots
clerics are not for hitting things with sticks
clerics are walking nukes, you are doing it wrong.
1. Repec for min/max
Shart for example needs no dex and you can dump int and char since she's not the face, also lose trickery cleric because trickery sucks shit. Go full tanky caster tempest or buffbot warcleric. The game's not hard enough to need a life cleric
Uninstall wizard is the best class
this is why artistic queers stay in their caves and stick to their own games
>don't minmax bro, just play what you want
Have you people been to act 3? How the frick would you get through all the insane encounters like foundry, house of hope, house of grief, Orin and all the other fricked-up shit the game throws at you if you're just playing "what looks cool" exactly?
fighter battle master
>Having more fun with the nobody hireling druid than my own custom character warlock
Transforming into a bear is so much fun, what the frick?
I thought being an edgy mage was my calling but I'm really not feeling Warlock... I don't want to start over now that I've hit level 4.
Change your class in camp via Withers.
>no way to change appearance
