I don't think most people are necessarily okay with being spoiled usually. But most people can't put off being on places where they can be spoiled even more, in comparison.

Nowdays is worth separating what the writers puke into the game and its gameplay mechanics.
Thats when you realize that in lots of games the gameplay is just mediocre and gets boring really fast or that the story is simply a list of checkboxes they had to fill
spoilers have literally never affected my enjoyment of something and half the time I spoiler myself to see if X thing interests me

i don't understand how spoilers could harm MGS2. The experience you have with it is visceral, even more so if you play it all in one sitting which is probably the developer's intent with how the story progresses with your own mental fatigue. The only other game I've ever played that seemed to tie it's story to the emotional or mental state of the player is Pathologic. Pathologic in particular is impressive because you don't have to play it in one sitting but the stressful nature of the game puts you in the mindset of the character you're playing as with both the player and their avatar becoming more desperate/frustrated.
My brother and I stayed up all night playing MGS2 when it came out. It was around 3-4am when we got to the meta Colonel codec convo where he starts telling you to turn the game off, you've been playing too long. The the thrill was exceptional. A very memorable experience.
Video games should have enjoyable gameplay above all else. If getting the story spoilt ruins your enjoyment of the game then it probably wasn't a good game in the first place.
This, even a good story isn't ruined by spoilers.
I played 999 after having the story blown wide open and it still made me stay up at night to binge it for hours.
