to add to this, every enemy in the air in your character's general cone of vision is instakilled by tagging. Meaning you just need to hit one in the crowd twice, and jumping will throw most enemies surrounding it in the air, and then tagging one will apply the tag on and kill most if not all the enemies in the air.
The sniper enemies need to just be kicked once, and I still KNOW your stupid ass is getting filtered by them because you can't dodge for shit and even if you did, you don't know how to move well enough to even get to them.

The OST is shit, but thankfully music mod fixes that mostly, still needs a way to completely remove the OST for whenever it decides to pop up during cutscenes and shit. It's kind of funny playing JSR music, noticing a huge quality dip, and then checking the fliphone to see, you guessed it, something from the soundtrack.
The gameplay is OK but needs to be a little faster. Even at top speeds it just doesn't quite scratch that itch.
I happen to like big breasts and I'm glad at least one character designer also likes big breasts so that's a plus.
Level design is bland and flat. Even when it starts to get strange and cool, it just can't quite match the over-the-top level JSR and JSRF nailed down.
Overall it's not bad but frick me it could've been better.
If that troon flag isn't a mod I'm glad I pirated it. Hell, I'm already glad I didn't pay 40 bucks for it; not worth the pricetag.

Forgot to mention the wanted-level system is absolute garbage. If it were tough it'd be one thing, but it's piss easy and annoying when you spray two walls and suddenly have a 3-4 star level. It needs to be nerfed or removed entirely; the scripted fights are more than enough for this lame-ass combat system. It's just not fun to to tap Y, then A then RB until you get bored and tool around for a shitter when you should be grinding rails and spraying paint.
Even the combat being some kind of rewarding would help. Beating their asses reducing wanted level, for example. This shit isn't Grand Theft Auto. It shouldn't follow GTA's rules, and even GTA would have the wanted level wear down over time. I don't even think that's possible in this. You have to either waste time going to the hideout or waste time going to the shitter, or just get annoyed until you happen to run into a shitter.

This is more or less the feelings I have too. The music feels WAY too subdued overall. Theres no high energy bangers akin to Concept of Love or anything equal to any of the other songs. It all feels weirdly muted in comparison, which I find bizarre. Its even weirder in the cutscenes where they introduce the characters and they're jamming out to.. really dull music. Not completely awful, just kinda lethargic.
As for the level design, yeah things are really flat and are grounded, which is weird considering I feel like they could easily add stuff like power lines, loops, and other weird things into the construction super easily.
Overall I'm still playing it and enjoying the heck out of it, but it definitely feels rough around the edges. It beats the hell out of that other game that was trying to be like JSRF and failed miserably in every way.

Hover. Basically a much crappier attempt at being JSRF sadly. It has the opposite issue, being a game thats much more vertical. Which wouldn't be a big issue, but its extremely easy to fall down mid races and have a hell of a time climbing back up or even trying to figure out where the hell to go next. Its also like.. One big area they just reuse constantly, and only change up what path you're going for races and stuff. Its just really annoying to play.

Hover is the equivalent of hitting the ball, yet it immediately being caught by the pitcher. In comparison Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is hitting the ball and getting a solid two base hit. Its no home run but its good.
I could see that, but I don't think it'd really save the game. Ultimately I think it just needs to not be confined to a single map. Spacing crap out and not having everything like sixteen stories tall would help immensely. Its a nightmare to navigate unless you memorize the whole map, and its boring to see the same crap all the time.
Dude, when i found out on my own that you can launch cops in the air with your jump during your combo, and follow them up with a tag, i marked the frick out. You are actually styling on the police, its so hype. It also makes tagging them way easier than just dishing out the 6 or so hits you need to take an officer like i was doing before like an idiot
You can also tag them by boosting into them, and then jump to them. A bit harder, but it helps make quick work of the riot shield cops

I've wanted some form of a JSRF sequel for damn near a decade now and I can finally put that to rest now. It's not a perfect game, I wish it leaned more into some of the unique ideas it presented (the dream sequences, the combo robots, etc.), but absolutely the most fun I've had with a title on release in years. The movement somehow feels better than any THPS/JSR/SSX game I've played

Currently being fleshed out in the discord. Me and this dude just got done skating from the home base to Verum Hill's underground. Sound fix might be coming tonight so you can hear eachother's SFX. Latency isn't great, but it's not bad either for like, the game's first week? It's fricking insane.
Probably want to the run-game-in-background mod too so people don't have to rubberband when you alt-tab out. No clue when it'll be pushed into an official release, but the game's future is really looking great.

Level design feels great when you're actually playing it instead of shitposting over youtube videos. Manual combo'ing was clearly in mind when they spaced things out, and it never feels slow or lacking when you're playing the game. It could definitely be tightened up in some straight-aways, but it's far from bad.
I didn't want to fire it up again just to slog my way over to that shitty mall. It doesn't feel great. JSRF felt great. This feels pretty good at best, fish mall being not even close to best.
i don't mind the flat areas because of manualling like you said but the maps desperately need more vertical routes

This. These threads showed me only few actually played Future because it is so obvious. The hideout, certain rails, the bus, are literally copy paste at points. But overall the design is worse, specially rails sections, even if manual is a good idea.
Kinda amusing how Future pulled that crazy level design when the development was like a year or so
Not to mention the extremely similar story. Almost called each plotpoint a chapter ahead of time. Not that that's a huge deal, I'm not playing these games for the plot anyhow, but it's indicative that the development felt at least some pressure (from either their audience/playtesters or their own lack of confidence). If it meant waiting longer for more original ideas to flow I wouldn't have minded this game staying in the oven an extra year or so, even if the game as is is still pretty fun.
As far as maps go, I miss the vertically many JSRF maps had. The BRC maps felt slightly more expansive as they "opened up" throughout the chapters, but it leads to a lot of the sections feeling secluded

You can ascend from the first floor via the escalator, the tree onto a fish and up, and the half-pipe iirc. Personally I think it's the third floor that sticks out since the walkway going all the way across doesn't have anything beyond straight rails.
That whole part should've been full of frickin fish of different shapes and sizes. It looks incredibly half-assed, to the point where I wonder if it's making fun of Amsterdam.

Go to the half pipe on the other side of the map, there's a bunch of AC Units on the wall. Climb them, then you'll make your way to the roof of the building, follow it until you see a bunch of rails that lead to a sign. Once you're on the building the rest is pretty easy to figure out.

The police system is objectively fricking awful. I can't even say "it's too hard" or any bullshit like that because it isn't. It's just distracting trash meant to be filler at worst. Best thing would be a mod that gets rid of them but also raises the turret platforms.
Scripted fights are fine. Those actually kind of work. They're still based on a terrible combat foundation, but at least they serve a narrative purpose.

Add one more mod for removing or replacing the actual OST; from what I know the current music mods don't do this, and this game loves defaulting to the OST tracks. Not everybody likes the soundtrack because a lot of it is too mellow, and some tracks are outright shit.

I really hate how every JSR inspired game tries to emulate the graphics of the original instead of improving upon them. The blocky shit looks truly ugly at times and it's not hard to go for more polygons while still retaining the cel-shaded visual style.
hi-fi rush is a good example, while it has absolutely no gameplay in common with JSR, the art style of that game is what I would feel a JSR made on modern hardware would look like.

i remember reading in one of these threads that JSRF didnt have any ambience to complement the soundtrack but that's blatantly incorrect. i've been playing JSRF on mute and there are several areas in each stage i've played so far that have ambient noise like clunking machinery or crowd chatter. almost every one of the dozens of objects you're constantly crashing into also have unique sound effects. BRC is a significantly quieter game even disregarding how much emptier it is

It clashes with their low-energy approach. I still can't figure out why they want me to chill out while playing speedy police chase graffiti game.
I think there's some value in the "low energy" approach, but you've got to take a bit of a classier angle for that to work. Tekken 4 and Ridge Racer R4 are probably the best examples that come to mind, that and WipeOut.
It's the kind of thing I think they could absolutely refine for a sequel, so I hope they don't just abandon it (or worse, double down and miss the mistakes with the execution here)
Tempo for R4 is way too high for this to be low energy. It's groovy, sure, but it's not slow or excessively relaxing.
The issue with the OST is less that it's "Low Energy" and more that it's all very "cold". JSR's genre mix had a really strong balance of "warm" and "cold" tracks, where the only track with anything approaching a "warm" feel in BRC is Lightswitch. Gives the impression that they're trying to make things feel more serious or aggressive, but it just doesn't end up meshing as well because they don't have enough genre mix to really drive the aggressiveness home.
I hated Lightswitch at first but it really grew on me. Same with the song that goes YOU BETTER WATCH YO BACK YO

The side characters are fine design wise but the ability to talk to each character during each chapter really did a lot to make them more fleshed out in JSRF. Like talking to them as Clutch right after he stole from them and you see their reactions to it. Just a small detail that is missed now that it's gone.

Yeah, the insane escalations of the JSR cops are also funnier because of the higher enemy variety and more grounded setting. I think the only thing in BRC that gave me that combination of shocked and entertained was the house-sized tank walker.
Maybe having Irene losing her shit as the situation escalated would have mitigated that.

Not sure if you're being faceticious or not but you simply need to get your multiplier up by leaning into corners and hitting wall rides. Using manuals to get around inbetween zones. Boost trick while doing a manual slide to reset the manual timer. Swap between air tricks, slide tricks, and grind tricks to keep your combo score from going stale while boost tricks in general should be giving you a ton of points.

I'm not sure I'm enjoying it much. Just got to Pyramid Island, and I'm kind of sick of it. The artstyle's kickass though, and I'm actually having fun trying to get to the higher-up collectibles.
That said pretty much everything else falls short of my hopes. The levels are pretty lame, with like 2 "secret" routes and then just a huge lobby. Millennium Square does it, the mall does it, etc. I guess it's to make you do methods and stuff, but that's barely interactive at all.
The movement and such isn't super interesting either. Tricks are basically just pressing the face buttons in order, maybe jumping and pressing the face buttons in order. The double jump makes it less frustrating then JSR, but also kind of just nullifies all tension when making dubious jumps. Methods just ensure I'm always holding R2 in case I hit the floor.
What hurts the most is probably the soundtrack being 90% unenjoyable though. I know it's standard for techno stuff to be super repetitive, but if I have to hear "Watch your back" or GOT DEM MOVES again, I'm gonna scream. Also why does the OST restart every time I change zones?
the core gameplay is a lot better then the earlier games but literally everything else is worse, including a lack of optional post game challenge modes to justify the improved depth
I'm not sure I'm feeling these core gameplay improvements, but I never played JSRF, and it's been like 5 years since my last JSR play. Maybe it's just that I've got time to mess around in this one, or that I'm not locked out of maps as soon as I complete 'em, but you start to notice the shitty parts pretty quickly in this.
Also most of what they added seems kinda useless / uninteresting. The dream areas are just straight lines, and the different "vehicles" are identical except for the ability to open one kind of door.
What sucks is I don't even hate this game, it's pretty nice to play another... grind 'em up? Just kind of sick of painfully easy score attacks or "follow my line" things that are 2 jumps long. By making the controls and stuff simple/easier, most of the challenge is gone.
the jetpack and being able to go on foot fix a lot of the frustration with the controls JSR while letting them keep more or less the exact same momentum, and the trick system is way more fleshed out with manuals, boost tricks and leaning into turns. you have a lot more control over how you move and going fast is more tied to your own skill at playing the game instead of your skill in finding pickups on the ground
Odds are you're right, but for being "more fleshed out" it sure feels pretty brainless. Maybe things'll change later, I'm only at the pyramid level.
i noticed that if you boost into a lamp post, it plays the super trick sound. does it actually give you you more points than just riding into it normally?
