How bad has the power creep gotten that one of the most broken cards is unbanned and nobody gives a shit about it?
Duels last 2-4 turns now, with boards full of negates and multiple powerful monsters with great effects that proc on literally everything. Theres no reason to waste your normal summon on something that wont even be there next turn, and doesnt play into any kind of combo.
That, and not being able to draw is not nearly the death sentence it was in the early days. Graveyard effects, discard effects, cards with searches, you can easily rebuild your board without your draw phase.
He's just too slow now.
aren't there cards that prevent opponents from using those effects though? Like nuke the field, yata lock them, and some negating stuff so they can't just pull from the grave?
If you can do all that then you probably already won or will win the next turn so there's no point to even going for Yata
Loops don't matter when every deck is OTK or lose lol.
The bigger problem is that the other combo pieces that made it broken in the first place are nerfed into the ground with 2 erratas for some fricking reason instead of keeping them on the banlist.

Decks these days are all about having half your deck be hand traps with just enough of an engine to let you spam a bunch of extra deck monsters with negates.

Yata has a theoretically strong effect but his partner in crime is lobotomized, anon. There's a big difference between pre-errata on the left and post-errata on the right. Sure, you could play some like Yata - Droll - Trickstar Reincarnation combo, but you could also just play Droll + Reincarnation to banish their entire hand, or play a Trishula De-Synchro loop deck to do the same, or a Gustkraken handrip deck and set Drastic Dropoff or something. They all effectively accomplish the same thing, and with hand traps and other negates being prevalent (especially against Yata because he has to attack so you have to go second and everything has negates or floats and so on), they're all too inconsistent to be worthwhile outside of funny memes.

Yata only works in Spirit focused decks going second but even that doesn't gaurantee shit nor does he make those decks good.

Spirits have a Ritual deck now that allows to special summon Spirit monsters at will, but its still pretty bad.
Yata could have been unbanned like 10 years ago
It remained banned for long for legacy reasons more then being a meta threat.
There has been a lot of power creep but a lot of it's that the game has just so vastly changed and is all about setting up big boards with combos these days. There are multiple cards which also became reverse power creeped that were not that great at launch but ended up probably permanently banned. Card of Safe Return, Painful Choice, and Royal Oppression being a few examples which went either limited or unlimited for years but would unbelievably broken in the current meta game.
Also with Yata you have to remember the main cards that allowed you to set up Yata-Locks so consistently and made it so notorious are nerfed so hard and couldn't be used to set it up anymore. Chaos Emperor, Witch, Sangan in particular. If CED and Witch/Sangan were unbanned in their vanilla form Yata may still be banned but even then there are way more outs available at least 2 of the Yokai Girls would be easy outs to deal with CED.
Slapping once per turns on halfed the banned list would let them all be unbanned
But they don't want to waste the resources to reprint the old meme cards that are only abused by new cards when they can just keep them banned forever
Yata was only good with CED and everyone with common sense knows it. It was banned for legacy reasons, same for Exodia pieces being at 1
Yata was still very good in hand control decks before CED. He wasn't the star of the show but he was the finishing touch.
I never got why this card was so broken all you have to do is use Mirror Force on it and it dies

now the entire game is ruined unless you limmit yourself to pre-links cards if you actually want to enjoy playing
Boomer yugioh is less fun. What's fun about getting hit by raigeki or dark hole and then you just lose because you only get 1 draw and 1 normal summon per turn
power creep isn't what made ygo less fun. All they did was add more options and unique playstyles. What made it less fun is you actually playing with people who know what they're doing and not moronic children.

Yata-Garasu was always shit on its own. It just had broken enablers, which both got nerfed so there's literally no reason to use it ever.
