How big is your backlog?
How do you deal with it?
Do you have to beat the game to write it off, or do you stop whenever you had enough?

      autism
      ocd
      perfectionism
      fomo
      "maybe it'll get good later"
      achievements
      got nothing else to do
      want to have bragging rights
want to be able to have a complete opinion
      credibility for criticism/review
      etc. etc.

I agree with you btw, but there are reasons to power through regardless

Lingering sense that I wasted my money unless I try out the game more. Wonder if it gets better later or if Ganker just has shit taste in games

        >Lingering sense that I wasted my money unless I try out the game more.
there's a way to fix this. i only buy games if i've put ~100 hours into them or actively beat them, and only if they're on sale (never pay full price). if renting was still a thing, id do that instead, but the industry moved on from that and wont let me try games before i buy them.

if renting was a thing then you would just b***h about not all games having a free demo and pirate anyway. renting died out because its shit tier and would be even sussier with todays modern pricing.

Feeling like everyone who played and beat it saying it's the best thing in the world. Trying it myself and knowing that if I drop it they'll all say "You didn't beat the game". Finally finishing it so I can properly explain why it's a bad game.

How do you finish non-coop campaign multiplayer games?

By enjoying the story or playing on an easier difficulty setting to plow through the game and finish the story

    >How big is your backlog?
Unquantifiable, but I can tell you my "current" backlog I want to finish by sometime next year has 60ish games left
    >How do you deal with it?
I just play the games when I feel like it. I dont treat it like a weird chore list just to checkmark games off of. More like hey I like video games and here are a list of some I have interest in or have heard a lot about, I should get to those.
    >Do you have to beat the game to write it off, or do you stop whenever you had enough?
nah I drop shit if its boring me. Depends on how much I'm being annoying/tired out by the gameplay and how long a game is. Much higher tolerance for shorter and retro games

I started an autistic system about five years ago where I cannot play a game unless I beat all of the previous games. It's made the backlog both worse and better, because although it takes me longer to get to games I like, I also finish quite a lot getting there.

I let games I have an immediate interest in cut in line for sure, but not before I'm done with whatever I'm currently playing.
picrel, quite a handful of new games this year that I'm glad I ignored my backlog to get to.

I go for everything above the 50% mark on global achievements on Steam, and if a game still doesn't manage to grip me by the time half the other players dropped it, I drop it too.

Only people who play medicore games have backlogs. If they were actually great you would beat them in no time.

In terms of games I've actually paid money for, about 20 or so. I try my best to plan ahead for when I want to play them, and I write it off the backlog only once I've beaten it. I actually have been making progress on it, but the biggest distractions are roms and abandonware, not newly purchased games.

    >How big is your backlog?
    >How do you deal with it?
I have some games that I want to play but if I changed my mind and ended up play something else I wouldn't be bothered by it. So I don't know if I can call it backlog.
    >Do you have to beat the game to write it off, or do you stop whenever you had enough?
Stop when I had enough. Games are meant to be entertainment, not a job.

Games are unironically too long. They should shoot for 4-8 hours in length with optional like "if you can beat hardmode without having to retry 3 times you unlock a cool skin that grants god mode" and stuff like that.

Same, arcade games fried my brain. Nowadays it's extremely rare for me to play a game that takes more than 4 hours to beat and not think it's bloated in some way.

Pick one and force clock in at least 1 hour a day.

    >How big is your backlog?
~300 games or so. I have a library of ~600 games, so I'm around 50% done.
    >How do you deal with it?
First off, I stopped buying games until I'm done or close to done.
Second, I started by downloading a bunch of games and tackling the backlog group by group.
Third, I unironically started rating and cataloging games I finish, and it gave me an additional layer of enjoyment and motivation to clear out my backlog. So even if I am not feeling it, at least I get something out of playing the game, that lil ol' sense of progress/achievement.
Fourth, I prioritize short games to get them out of the way, and I occasionally mixed it up with one long game in-between.
    >Do you have to beat the game to write it off, or do you stop whenever you had enough?
I give games at least 1 hour, if I enjoyed it I either plan to finish it or play until it gets boring. If I didn't enjoy it, I put it in a "try again" group, and give it another shot. If it still fails to grap me after giving it another hour (usually weeks later), I write it off.

    >How big is your backlog?
    Over 100
    >How do you deal with it?
I've stopped looking at sales and bundles and only buy a new game if I know that I 100% need to play it.
    >Do you have to beat the game to write it off, or do you stop whenever you had enough?
My 'tism won't let me quit until I beat it. If I lose interest then it goes back on the pile until """""someday""""" when I want to try again.

Use easymode, cheat, hacks, guides, etc. and just plow through if you are that adamant about not dropping the game

I have a big backlog that's why I can't justify gamepass for me. Though it I do use it for crimson skies and to demo games.
