It's pretty tough at first. This might help a little.
Read some guides, about builds and crafting in particular.
Some ideas about builds in this game are beyond weird, every crpg player may not know that "warfare" scales better with bows than "ranged".
Crafting is very easy and helps you save a lot of coin
    Good luck.

Only something like that, I'm not sure if this is the area 2bh, been a while since I played the game.

I used this when playing the game myself for the first time. But be careful with that far-left lvl11 place, it will be a cave, and unless you got a good build, that place will eat you alive at lvl11

          >That crucified shrieking b***h at NW corner
I don't remember exactly, but I've had to use some kind of exploit (with blessing her, some shit like that) to win that fight. At first, it seems like the worst enemy in the whole game.

Thievery is busted and pickpocketing is easy as frick. You can just buy the shit you want and then steal back most of the money.
Also oil making spells are great because the slow status effect ignores armour.

I'm also playing the game rn and enjoying it so far, god I hate the camera in this game, moves too slow and it's too close to the ground without being able to zoom out

If it's anything like 1, just use telekinesis to whack enemies with chests that you've stuffed full of shit so they weigh more than Saturn.

Also terrain effects and focus firing enemies.

What’s the world/writing like? I remember being bored as frick of Rivellon back in the day playing that one game where you can shape shift into a dragon

solid 6/10, but there is one romance with wienery elfina that's genuinely great imo

The first chapter/hub or whatever has a really great world, but it gets progressively worse. The writing is good in many of the sidequests and npc interactions, but companion quests and the main plot are forgettable.

Just use cheats and play as Ifan cuz he's the canon protag of DoS2.

But if I play as Ifan then I won't be able to recruit him with his free animal speak feat.

Good, he's a horrible companion. He's an amazing protagonist and the canon one.

Abuse elemental damage, get teleport to throw barrels ore reposition enemies to more convenient places, go either full physical or full magic with your party the first one that breaks a shield wins cause you must stun/knockdown/force enemy to lose a turn to win.

My favorite tactic is braking oil barrels, teleporting people in the middle and setting the on fire, they have to move and therefore will take damage

I recommend playing CRPGs that have random encounters instead. With DOS2, if you can't into, then you have to change it to easy. At least with random encounters you could at least grind your bad build.

Unironically google "Starting area exp exploit"
TLDR you need to agro every guard on the ship before letting psycho witch explode it
Also you NEED to take Wolf Loner and telekinesis and pick up the deathfog barrel to trow it on Alexander the very first time you meet him.
Game is very easy if you know how to frick it up.

Are you still in Fort Joy? Then you are meant to scrounge up resources and scavenge shit tier gear. Just explore everywhere and avoid the enemies that are too high level.

beat the game twice, but never lone wolf
is it better to go solo or with 1 companion for that?

you need to have a 2handed warrior in your party, level it roughly 80/20 str / hp, focus on keeping it wielding the best weapon (I love axes for cleaving) and it'll carry you in every stage of the game
2nd most useful character is dagger rogue, shit in the early game but once you get a few levels rolling and with an extra teleport spell they'll delete enemies, especially with the skeleton companion dude's double turn ability you can really cheese the game
don't rely too much on magic for damage, I found it more useful to have utility mage + archer character, magic only really worth it in the mid-late game, and even then you'll be better off using your magic to buff / dispel your warrior or rogue
Archers are great because of the knock down arrows, extra stun will let you cheese many encounters, other arrows can be useful but mostly aren't.
Generally get as many stun / disarm skills as you can because the game is designed around it.

Beyond that just save often and take note of creature levels, sadly the game is really not designed to hold your hand in regards to leveled areas but anons posted good progression maps, you can skip some areas w/ a good party comp but generally its best to get as much exp as you can
If you don't care for immersion / roleplaying, taking the violent solution to almost every quest gives more exp due to kill exp.

I hated rogue in this game, the scoundrel skills look sick but the fact that almost all of them are limited to daggers ONLY and every fight enemies just "conveniently" take positions where their back faces the wall so you can't backstab them without teleport frickery is really annoying

        Anonymous

I never had an issue finding backstab opportunities, maybe it's a problem if you lone wolf as a rogue, but I figured out that the AI is designed to run at lowest hp enemy target, so it's pretty simple to bait enemies to chase your mage / archer, get out of position, then get fricked. Admittedly, you'll likely not know most fights first time around so to make sick outplays you'll have to play through the game / fights at least once to know how to approach them.

I also enjoyed that the game is straight up designed around abusing its mechanics such as teleporting. Very few other games let you play around with it as much as DOS2, though I can understand not liking it.

I am never fricking playing pyromancer again
half the Black folk in this game are fire immune

People keep b***hing about armor being moronic but no one b***hes about how magic in this game is lowtier impossible to base a character around because every random character has a random 30-70% resistance to an entirely random school of magic, ontop of random immunities

They shouldn't have based magic around element type, and/or should've taken the world of warcraft pill where after a time the devs realized random immunities are fricking moronic when there are classes that rely on that specific damage type to function.
