This is one of the reasons why Eve Online is still kicking, they provided a platform for communities to form and impact the game. That and it's a true MMO instead of an instanced theme park masquerading as one.

every single modern multiplayer game is live service and has a battle pass which MMOs now have to compete with the time of players to be their main game rather than just other MMOs. The riot MMO just got scrapped and revamped, it will be a f2p live service game with a battle pass which looks nothing like WOW style mmos the rpg part will probably be diminished

The value proposition of the MMO is "interact with strangers online" and people know what that's like by now and how generally shit it is.
Also there's better skinnerboxes now. f2p live service competitive games with battle passes, gacha, etc take a lot of the potential market.

There's not a single MMO with the following components
    >hot and cute girls
    >manly men
    >appealing, high visibility graphics
    >smooth, bug free gameplay
    >engaging combat
    >solid UI/UX
    >decent pricing system, no MTX
    >good worldbuilding
    >easy to understand, no overwhelming the player with a million systems

I think they're all pretty self explanatory but I'd like to say something about graphics. It's not just looking good. They need to be appealing. MMOs may have realistic graphics, but they all end up looking generic as shit. They can't be generic, they have to be appealing because MMOs by definition are games that you play for hours. I can't stress this point enough. MMOs look like bland, generic shit with very few exceptions.

This isn't as bad, but it's still flat, generic, boring

WoW has amazing graphics, not in the sense of fidelity, realism and detail of course. But people still talk about their favorite zones.

WoW is still the only MMO with all those characteristics.

Korean MMOs in general tend to have cute girls and hunky men, and solid combat, but everything else is a shitshow.

Feel free to prove me wrong.

From what I heard xiv is like relatively bug free with some connection issues

Vindictus and BDO clears any other mmo
      >solid ui/ux
it's customizable in every mmo so that point is weird
      >decent pricing system, no mtx

No mmo does has that sadly
      >good worldbuilding
warcraft had amazing world building with shit story, wow has shit world building with shit story
      dunno which mmos have that.
xiv is a visual novel and GW2 is a soap opera
      >easy to understand, no overwhelming the player with a million systems

IMO ESO has the best easy to understand systems

        >Which one is it moron bro?
There's not a single MMO with the following components
        That isn't WoW, obviously

        >wow literally had visibilty problems and the disneyification of graphics controversy.
Modern WoW has visibility problems, and modern WoW isn't even a shadow of its former self.
        >LMFAO HEARTHSTONE EVENT DIDN'T EVEN FRICKING WORK YOU moron
I don't even know what that is, but WoW is the smoothest MMO there is. I don't care about a single niche event. If you ask pretty much anyone who played the game will agree that WoW has butter smooth gameplay and pretty much no bugs.

        >tab target mmos were never engaging.
Opinion. Plenty of people love WoW combat.

        >Vindictus and BDO clears any other mmo
I already said that Korean MMOs have good combat and characters, but shit everything else.

        >it's customizable in every mmo so that point is weird
Korean MMOs in particular have terrible UI and UX. They're disgustingly bad.

        >wow token? in-game store with shitty mounts and mogs?
Yes, modern retail WoW is a mess. And look at their shitty numbers, if anything it proves my point. I'm defending peak WoW (anything up to Wrath)

        >wow has shit world building with shit story
WoW has AMAZING world building, at least up to Wrath and even then, the world and the zones were always a strong point
Even now, people who don't play retail agree that the world looks pretty and unique

        >wow requires you to drop every other game to learn it for atleast 2-3 months with youtube guides, addon guides and daily wowhead scrolls.
True of modern retail WoW. And again, their numbers are pathetic.

I'll throw you an audio/book recommend called Minla's Flower, about a passing space traveler taking an interest in helping a doomed no-where planet population over the course of a few generations. It's nothing to him, but everything to the population, and the girl he meets as a child and out lives. It will give you a character arc, at least. Scratch an itch maybe thinking about long living.

What a waste of a show, I'm pretty disappointed.

The point of the show is that Frieren is realizing how to make meaningful connection with people that inevitably will not outlast her. There's absolutely a good show where it spans Frieren over the ages but it's going to be a lot less meaningful for the audience if the character churns and burns through tons of people over vast amounts of time without any seeming effect upon her. What we have is someone who is already ancient realizing that despite having infinite time, it's still an exceptionally valuable and precious resource.

The implied thing is that time feels to flow way slower for Frieren when she's around humans, you'll have to wait for a moment when the team gets separated for more than a week, which the elf will suddenly realise that this "week" was actually several decades when she reunites with the team.

        Anonymous

It's more that she is deliberately paying more attention now that she's experienced death of a loved one. She could still zone out for a decade because she's autistic but she at least understands what that actually means now.

Literally all a MMO dev has to do is copy Albion, every single thing including the Megaserver idea and make the combat WoW style or Monster Hunter style and it will print money. The only bad thing about Albion is the dogshit MOBA gameplay.

              Anonymous

WoW has too much player-bound power and nothing to balance uneven fights. The players at the top would stay there forever and dunk on everyone. The slightest power difference makes you immortal in that game.
There are way too many skills. PvP is completely one-sided. You just faceroll your keyboard and stat-check to victory. It's also a visual clusterfrick if a fight has more than three participants.
It wouldn't work without a complete overhaul in favor of PvP.
Meanwhile in Albion you have five abilities, long cooldowns and a sprint. During ZvZ with hundreds of players you are basically reduced to your E spell.

Fanart of course exaggerates the size to make wieners throb and leak profusely but she does have big breast in-universe too. The second biggest set of breasts we've seen so far actually. Also Bocchi does have big breasts in the manga, she just got nerfed in the anime.

Takagi Jun brought you Manyuu, Seiko No Quesar and a bunch of other titty anime from the 2010s.
His animation style is very good at capturing big breasts even if the jiggle is unrealistic at times.

A man has to observe a lot of big breasts to get it that good, he clearly has experience.

also WoW, GW2, and FF14 are the only ones that exist apparently. morons will say they want a new mmo but b***h if it isnt exactly like these three. They say they want a huge open world but just want to hound in arena all day. Its pointless to make a mmo for the western market

What is the appeal of MMOs and MMORPGs? WoW was before my time but every mmo I've ever looked at just didn't seem that appealing

It makes worthless NEETs feel like they have a job or purpose in life. Logging in and doing all that mindless bullshit every day actually feels like work to them. If you are employed or really just doing anything else with your life, you won't understand and most likely won't be able to get into it.

I'm not sure about that. Back when I played everyone on my guild was either in school or college

Well the spirit of MMOs is conceptually something that hasn't gone away as evident by the frick load of Isekai anime that actually take place IN MMOs.
Since the days of the original Tron movie or Star Trek's Holodeck people have wanted to LARP in a simulation of a fantasy world and pretend to be heroes saving the land.
MMOs were an attempt for videogames to reach that emersion by allowing a massive amount of people play in a single game world instance and have a good portion of the experience depend on their interaction. Such a feat came at the cost of gameplay available to single-players at the time, so RPGs mechanics built around latency became the framework(what's known as "Tab targeter" hotkey gameplay) until MMOs like Lineage pushed the boundaries with things like "action combat". A lot of the enjoyment from MMOs came from that community interaction.

At their peak MMOs provided things taken for granted these days, such as seamless communications networks. There wasn't discord, skype or any of that shit and people used shit like Ventrillo or Teamspeak to establish voice communication. Once Skype, Discord and others launched and integrated their own "communities" but with EVERY game, MMOs lost their edge.

MMO's also ran into a problem of trying to keep people playing them, perpetually underestimating no-lifers. This led to unsavory "daily" mechanics and gear treadmills. Then the ASShomosexualS was created and crunched the entire MMO experience into an hour long match all whilst koreans realized how to milk their MMO addicts using methods you zoomers are familiar with today in Gacha. Together they killed the MMO.

What? It's just supposed to be a live service character progression game. People have this warped perception that it's some social hub with fantasy themed avatars

We play videogames both for the problem solving aspect (the game) and the immersive world.

The draw to playing a game in an open world fantasy setting with a lot of other people is a draw. Why else do you think in WoW there were RP servers?

you don't need player interaction for immersion or else every game would be multiplayer. Again, fringe people insist mmos is some fantasy-themed forum

You don't need it but it is and always will be a major draw.
That was the contributing factor to their popularity, bad consumer practices and failing to improve on this draw killed it.

It's a similair failure to VR, built on a yet reachable premise.

You could still make games with MMO like playercounts, they don't have the same effect as MOBAS proved.

I don't know what dungeon meshi is, but vinland saga failed because the protagonist is an insufferable butthole, and the only good character was killed in season 1.

Round-based MMORPGs with a set start and end date. Make it so players can actually beat the game, reach the top and then try again next server wipe. Have some cool endgame event that you spend all your playthrough preparing for.
Aimlessly grinding forever isn't fun. Something like Foxhole but as a classic MMORPG.
