I find it difficult to happen upon organic servers that are actually decent, and many in-game community tools (like in MMO's) are hamstrung because everyone's on Discord. Also even in the decent servers I've found, troonyism, highly insular server owner moronation, and cringe political kvetching seems rife. Maybe I'm just old.
I unironically encountered 2 guys on Discord, 1 far left and other other far right trying to tell and make me agree with their batshit world views that I don't care about when I just wanted to enjoy the game in co-op instead of playing alone.
just don't get groomed? sounds like a you problem.
the thing with discord is, yeah it's got a lot of shitty people. but you can just not engage with them. the mistake is people expect it to be like forums of ye olde days. That is never coming back. It's perfectly fine if you use it for it's intended purpose, which is to host a server for you and the people you play games with to communicate. If you are using it as a general social platform, that's your prerogative.

It's centralized, proprietary Tencent spyware. It records everything you type, say and run on your computer. And it's still inferior to Teamspeak3.
The fact most communities now exists on this unindexible application has also created an information vacuum for many nicher topics. Back in the good old days we'd have proper discussion on a forum, where information is posted in high-quality posts and remains accessible and searchable for the wider web.
Discord along Reddit have ruined the Internet.

Back in my day we used to berate blatantly underage posters. Now it's the opposite.
There's more people on the internet now than ever before, yet it feels like there's absolutely nowhere to call home. Boards have gone to shit, altchans and forums are dead, everyone's a d*scord zoomie with nothing worthwhile to say.
Where did all my 90s-born brethren go? What dark corner of the internet have they escaped to?
Zoomers did everything they could to wreck this place. Because they were introduced to the internet as 9 year olds, they learned how to behave on the internet as 9 year olds. They've kept this act up all throughout their adult lives, as well. To them, the internet is just a place to make an ass of yourself for shits and giggles, and taking anything serious is "oof big cringe if true buh on g fr fr no cap"
If any time someone wants to harp on about intentionally lowering the level of discourse, it all falls on them.
'93 chad here. I'm actually seeing this sentiment from people our age across all platforms now. I think many of us considered ourselves perrenially young because we were the first generation to truly adopt and run with the internet and evolving technologies, and jumped onto gaming as it was blossoming into mainstream life. As such we were markedly different from our Gen X parents and felt we had access to a secret and new club. In many ways our culture defined the internet. Now we're having to get to grips with the fact that centralization and zoomer culture has arrived, as in some ways it's much worse. I think we just need to accept that we're getting older now, and kids will always dominate these platforms. In ten years zoomers will be saying the exact same things.
Zoomers would have to be capable of self-reflection, first.
'85 here, and when I was young, the internet was a completely different platform than it was for you. It just rapidly changed, and did so very quickly. I was here when zoomers flooded this place in numbers so huge that no amount of community policing could prevent the disaster they caused. They advice-dog'd, and WHEN I WAS'd this place into oblivion and giggled the entire time. They weren't even fricking tweens yet. Ganker was just training wheels for them. For zoomers to complain that things will get worse, they'll have to have ever experienced "good" to begin with, and they never did, because they wrecked it long before they matured to a degree to appreciate it.

there used to be dedicated forums to every single game, band, hobby...anything! I spent years posting in the official morrowind forums and korn forums and have made friends whom I spoke to for years. nowadays everything is centralized and it almost seems as if its illegal for any big influence to create their own community. Now what we have is places like Ganker and reddit and resetera where either you succumb to the homosexualry and join the chamber or try to filter anything good if there is any through all the shitposts.

Black person what the frick does that have to do with anything?
it can't be indexed like a forum so if you have a problem with a specific game/program you have to make an account, give them your phone number, join the discord (and sometimes you even have to wait for admin approval) before you can search for/ask for what it is you're seeking.
It's a closed ecosystem separate from clearnet, which has made a culture that hosts content on there which will be confined on the platform and nowhere else. Combined with the ubiquity of Discord, this has caused many cases where desired contents such as vidya mods, information, and sometimes even user feedback and support exclusive to it only, like a modern equivalent of 'works on my machine' that instead requires you to jump through more hoops to get what it is you're after. You can't search the net, only one maybe relevant server at a time.
Trying to get in-depth info for a game like Black Desert is especially a miserable experience, especially when a lot of it is confined behind class or life skill-specific servers - only just to see that a lot of the guides are simply poorly-formatted shit hosted on Google Docs. Said game additionally has some not insignificant community tools you also can't use without invoking Discord integration, effectively an exclusionary practice if you want to abstain from using the service.
This guy has it bang on the money. Everything else is irrelevant in the face of this. People are casually locking away knowledge within Discord servers, with no way to access it from the outside. I may hate reddit but thanks to their moronic userbase, that's led to the site making fairly decent tutorials for morons which can be searched and found. Discord is more akin to becoming an archologist and actually having to find the right ancient mural which might hold clues to the mystery you have.
My only issue with that is how Reddit will host incorrect/out-dated information for years and never update/change it. Reddit's moderation and community policing standards not only prevent this, but run antithetical to it. Discord will lock away information, and gatekeep it from the world, but Reddit will throw out lies and guard them as if they are sacred.
Chinese spyware, horrible design with "rooms", you are expected to not dig through the whole chat history so all useful information unless gathered and compiled by enthusiasts is lost forever in an endless flow of shittalk. Schizophrenic morons dominate every single channel or there, moronic mods and rules destroy any chance for having fun. And it is mostly used by zoomers who buy default can't form a community around a game without turning it into shit or completely killing it.
aside from the spyware argument and lack of actual search engine indexability, nothing
everything that's actually wrong and people seethe at is less discord's misdoing and more the general shift in the mentality of the internet induced by social media
How can you find a gaming community in current year WITHOUT this godforsaken app?
There are not good communities aside of the one that you make, mentally ill homosexuals are going to be there whether you use discord or not. Sorry anon.
Every place has the same memes, slogans and jokes.
Back then you used to have your own injokes and vocabulary for each specific gaming community, now it's all "pepega" this and "lolw" that.
It's the McDonaldfication of online communities, they all turned into the same bland spaces with the same boring twitch-Black person speech.
>what's wrong with it?
I don't think there is anything wrong with the app per say. But I would comment that ever since Discord came out, communities have become more and more atomized over the years. Discord features free servers, while the other VOIP programs mostly required someone to purchase a server, so there were fewer servers overall.
My group of friends had a Mumble server we all used 10 years ago, the place always had people in it. These days everyone has their own separate servers, with layers of nonsense to "gatekeep" them so you never know for sure if people are in there or not. Sure people are freely choosing to do this, to associate with their carefully selected group of people they want to be with. But still, I do miss the days when we had a full server with different rooms and people were in them.
Millions of people use Discord, but I scrolled through the half dozen servers I'm part of and didn't see a single soul in any of them. 6 different Discord servers, dozens of channels in each, nobody in any of them. That's what Discord is, more channels and more servers than every before, but nobody is in them. But here is the thing, Discord allows you to create your own specific rabbit holes and grant special permissions to people so you can have channels that not everyone can see. So maybe there ARE people in some of these servers, but I wouldn't necessarily know that. All the "gamers" out there want their own special hidey hole.
>tfw a single server on discord >two of the mods are a guy and gal from here so I get away with a few stuff >normalgays get mad >I talk with the two mods and have a fun time.
I kinda feel blessed. I still hate the app because of how shitty it is, but im glad that I hit the jackpot for the only time I ever joined a server.
There's nothing wrong with it anyone who says there is has no idea what they're talking about but I will say there is a larger problem with its users mostly where many MANY servers use their own servers as a information archive. A discord server is not backed up information. A discord server is not a place to archive files and other information. It's a god damn messaging app and the fact a large amount of servers and users try to make it anything other than that is beyond idiotic. I wish people would stop being close minded and actually seek out places to store their files and other projects I cannot stand it.
That's not a discord problem thats a user problem. Discord is a messaging app first and foremost and is advertised as such. I'm not wrong in what I'm saying at all.

Go cry about it on discord?
that's literally the biggest complaint, and the fact that on top of all of that it's tailor made for the cringe tumblrinas that inhabit it, so you end up having to cross paths with them to access said info
I don't know how many times now I've seen requests for things that could easily be answered with "here's a link" be instead answered with "join this discord". It's the most impractical way of doing things.
Internet communities are shit, you're on Ganker, you should know this. Asking someone to join one should never be the answer for something.
>join a community >they now want to know your real life name so they can refer to you with it - frick your nickname, frick anonymity >private channels so they can circlejerk in them >small-time mods trying to overmoderate everything >everyone thinks that joining the community means you need to communicate with them 24/7 >homosexuals with literal twitter bios in their profile everywhere >obligatory NSFW channel where degenerates UwU at each other >drama >drama everywhere
everywhere
last time i broke down and joined a discord server, the first post I saw was some dude posting a fricking break up essay to his internet friend about why they can't bear to be "close friends" with them anymore. what a fricking disaster.
Last time I played FFXIV I saw someone in chat get booted by a mod and the mod posted "READ UP ON HOW FAT-SHAMING KILLS PEOPLE" and I noped the frick out of there forever.
Internet communities are fricking poisonous now. You don't have to be le-Chudjak 1844 Hail Hortler to see it, or to loathe it.
Playing an MMORPG by yourself is the most pathetic, and boring thing you can do. If you're not raiding, at least you can shoot the shit while grinding. No, frick that, everyone's constantly on edge because they don't know if you're going to be a /misc/tard, or a bunkertroon.
the unnecessary drama that seeps everywhere online, if there's a place I have no choice but to tolerate then id rather have Ganker than something like discord.
Lack of transparency to the public, cannot have just separate threads about single stuff, but instead you just have those gay rooms that end up becoming a dumpster of all discussions.
There's nothing wrong with it. Ganker culture just dictates that you viciously hate anything that isn't Ganker, hence why "reddit" has become an insult.
Yeah. Reddit is actually a very good place where discussions may be openly had about most topics, and the moderation staff is fair, and even-handed. You can also trust the community to be intelligent, rational, and like-minded.
>Yeah. Ganker is actually a very good place where discussions may be openly had about most topics, and the moderation staff is fair, and even-handed. You can also trust the community to be intelligent, rational, and like-minded.
I find it funny that most of the criticisms regarding the social mentality of its users such as petty drama and powertripping admins could be found in its predecessors.
The only valid criticisms against Discord is how it's outright spyware at this point and that resources have been congregated to it with little ease of access.
>just put all your community into a black box that will disappear if a single company goes under bro
Websites can be scraped and backed up. Forums posts are archived. There's insurance against losing something like that. But Discord? If your server gets deleted anything you posted there is gone forever.
The common criticisms against Discord almost always stem from anons seeing something they don't like, whether it would be "trannies", the age old "powertripping admins", drama, "secret clubs" or otherwise insular attitudes that are not easily digestible to outsiders. Disregarding the irony in such sentiments, they are not and have not historically been exclusive to something to Discord. You need only look at how any game servers, forums, chatrooms, or various VOIP servers were run in the early 2000s up to now and you would see close to the same behavior that Ganker and others so despise Discord for. Hell, if one remembers the various streaming communities that popped up on Ganker specifically during 2010-2012 era, those same communities exhibit those same exact traits that are supposedly universally despised.
However, the truth is that most anons and myself included don't like people in general. They don't like the idea of being excluded but at the same time, they don't like the idea of others being in their secret club. They'll tout the virtues of gatekeeping but when faced with such prospects against them, they whine and complain that they no longer have a place anywhere. All in the meantime, too lazy and too afraid to bother carving up their own little corner that will satisfy them.
Oh boy. It happened in the past, which means it's perfectly acceptable here. Yay for Discord. Following in the tradition of shit internet communities that proceeded it!
And heeeere comes the other logical fallacy. >"It happened in the past, so stop complaining about it happening here!"
Gee anon. What a compassionate take. Suffering is typical, so stop complaining and suffer in silence. >"Your complaints annoy me. Stop it."
I guess it's redundant, because it's more "Shut up and suffer in silence" from you.
Nobody, and I mean nobody ever makes the claim that Discord was the first to do these things. Nobody except people like you who feel like you get to gatekeep the right to complain.
What you have is an inability to empathize with others. Low empathy is a trait associated with low intellect.
You seem to mistake my words and others for approval when I too would also condemn Discord for perpetuating the cycle. The main point I drive here is that the problems are not exclusive to Discord, should the program disappear overnight or had it never existed, these same issues would still exist because at the end of the day, people are still people. It is the people that are the issue and need to be changed, otherwise any community on whatever platform is doomed to fall into the same pitfalls as so many others before it. You see only the surface of the problem when it runs so much more deeper than that. To say nothing about the bigger issues such as overcentralization of smaller communities congregating on it or hoarding of resources to specific discords.
But I also suspect because you are so willing to distort my words that you don't really want to discuss this to any meaningful capacity so I will just play at your level instead. Your words make you no better than those you condemn, in fact I would even say you're just another side of the same shit coin. Go wallow in your own self pity about how other anons don't immediately and completely agree with you. Maybe when you get off your ass, you too can find a group of sycophantic zoomers that will suck your dick at every opportunity.
Stop pulling that lazy, bullshit logical fallacy out of your ass. Discord doesn't get a pass because internet communities have existed in the past that were also shit. That's not an argument, it's a dismissal because you feel like nobody should discuss Discord because you don't dislike it, or dislike it in the same way.
There were also good communities, and in the past none were doing some of the things that Discord is now.
last time i used it a troony made everyone believe he was a woman after months of saying he was a man and somehow everyone went with it despite having a "broken camera", not having a microphone and not having photos of him.
servers are usually volatile and depending on the mental sanity of any mod and the loser neet culture in the app makes most servers a competition of who has the most miserable life and attract the shittiest people from the shittiest places.
most if not all discords are inundated with gossip and drama. it really is highschool for losers who missed out on highschool. unless you have a hardcore gatekept close knit server of guys you know irl you're fricked
Check out /vg/ but be warned that some of the generals in there have a lot of drama going on so if you want to avoid stuff like clique drama and cúmbrains spamming all the time then I'm sorry to say but discord is your only choice. It has none of those issues.
/vg/ is the one and only place on this site that I'd consider a real containment board. It keeps all the absolute worst, and most vile people this site can attract all in one place.
It's literally just an app based forum service with build in voice channels and more, I don't get what people are so afraid of. >But muh trannies and groomers
Every bigger community has those morons, back then it was furries and groomers, now trannies are the top degenerates that claw their way into mod positions. They also do it on forums. >B-but I have to register and worse go through a screening process
No forum worth it's salt hands out their shit without registration either, screening processes are rare on both forms of webspace but not unheard of. >ITS SPYWARE!
Your whole OS is spyware.
Make friends online while playing what you like and create some private group chat or whatever. Otherwise it's either rummaging to the trash within the chans to find something good or taking it up the ass and making a discord account.
Back in my day you had plenty of dedicated forums where it was easy to make the right frens and add them on XFire to make dedicated servers for games, mods, etc. Now you have to dive in the pool with everybody else and filter people as you swim.
by playing the game, any game where talking to people is common. especially co-op or other genres where being "toxic" (i hate this word, but discord is the definition of it) is less common
This is an example of how internet has become centralised thanks to big corporations. Discord alone would've probably faced some competition but PUBG and sponsored streamers happened and it snowballed from there.
It is also great for these companies so they can control what people see and do, i.e. censorship. Of course no one in their right mind publically talks about censorship it's called making gaming a safe space (for marketing).

I never had issues with people on Discords. All my online an irl friends are politically incorrect dickheads. There is no le funni Reddit bullshit. My guild master tells me to dispel rogues because they can't breathe. Get good at picking the right communities, homosexual.
Why the frick would you even want to be in something like that? Its full of trannies, pedos, drug addicts, sociopaths, and the gutter trash of society that cant show their face outside because of some weird mental illness. This is not the way anon.
I don't even care about any of the /misc/ schizo shit but my biggest problem with it is that it's basically a forum but it just has a shittier layout and functionality. Like searching, pinned post, etc. are worse. Feels like there's no reason for it over a classic forum.
The only problem with discord (well, other than it being closed source and non-self hostable) is that it started requiring a phone number to sign up a couple years ago.
Why the frick would you want to find a gaming community? Stop spending so much time online. Internet people are not your friends. Go get married and find some friends. Why would you ever want to associate with gamers? Christ almighty. Zoomers are a plague.
Pretty much. My friend made a server like 6 years ago after we moved from skype for our friend group plus some online friends we met playing vidya and i've never had issues really. We just hop on every night and play vidya or go down some youtube rabbit holes together. Sometimes one of us will pick up a game and stream it and we all just chat about whatever's going on in the game and joke about stuff.
I feel like a lot of the shit people complain about on discord is either easily avoidable or things that you have to actively look for then get mad over
You're not wrong in that there are some problems, I'm just tired of everyone on Ganker needing to seethe over everything obsessively, discord isn't perfect but people act like these are problems unique to discord and weren't also issues on previous messaging apps, or IRCs. Crazy homosexuals always existed, but people would rather screech endlessly into the void instead of either doing something about it or just pretend like these issues only ever started once discord was a thing instead of just ignoring communities they don't want to interact with. I use discord to hang out with my friends and enjoy video games
which I'm sure most of Ganker is incapable of at this point.
>Fricking moronic incel who watched too much anime attempt at armchair psychology
Do you type all that garbage while having anime girl voice in your head? No actual community, group wants morons like you around, discord nor any other program isn't really to blame, period.

Actually that wasn't me, but I'll at least try to meet you halfway. I agree that "just suffer in silence!" is a bad take and I could have worded it better. And I won't necessarily ask people to stop complaining because there are legitimate criticisms for it, like anons talking about how awful it is for archival purposes, or smaller game communities like fighting games needing to use discord to find other people to play with.
My main issue is just that you can rarely ever talk about discord without anons losing their shit and talking about groomers and trannies when that's not really related to the topic at hand. Seriously, if you even mention using discord on a thread that's not talking about how shit discord is, you just get dogpiled on. Although I think that's a greater issue with Ganker in general, it feels like you're not allowed to enjoy things anymore and I'm tired of trying to talk about video games only for shitposters to come in and rant about trannies and /misc/ when it's not remotely related to the game. Only niche game threads get actual discussion, and if it lasts for more than a week or two some autist will usually start spamming the threads and try to derail them, and it just gets annoying.

Discord has a lot of problems, and many anons have many different issues with it. Groomers and trannies among them, but both groups happen to be apart of the greater issue with the service that happens to be with the administration and moderation staff. They're the face of it. Many people just lack a greater ability to discuss it more than just hurling out the most basic insults, or they perhaps don't want to.
Discord works for you, fine. A lot of people have issues with it, but it's not the fault of the community here. You've been lucky enough to get in with the few decent communities on it. Most people never get into those communities, even if they aren't the type of people that would shit it up. They just got left out in the cold, and are frustrated about it. Who can blame them? You see what it's like out here.
As far as issues with Ganker goes: There's a concerted effort to shit up Ganker, and there has been such for a long time. Many different groups get into it, and for just as many reasons. Right now we have a group of people that use /misc/-posting, coomposting, and "tranime" to shit up the site. They think it's funny. There's always been comprehensive lists readily available online for how to most effectively troll Ganker boards. That doesn't make it okay, but it's not necessarily the community itself.
Ganker has always had issues with quality, but what do you expect from a website that lets you post just about anything without an account? People are going to abuse it. The bathroom stall nature of discourse here can be expected from such an arrangement. What many people here seem concerned with, is what is Discord's excuse? Why is it so terrible, in so many ways that all of it's predecessors were not?

>discord nor any other program isn't really to blame, period.
You're the kind of person that would sell his neighbors out to the secret police.
The poer to peer revolution will destroy the current centralized internet paradigm. Discord, YouTube, all these conglomerates will fall due to the AI-enhanced mass data breaches that ate coming within the next five years. Don't invest in crypto, invest in your own server and learn how to port forward and build your own firewall. Host videos yourself and now on Youtube. This is the future.
Yeah cause the drama fan forums ran by power tripping nerds was any better back in the day? homosexuals will always be homosexuals anon. Look no further than team liquid's forums for the perfect example.
It was never good anon. You always had that one homosexual with mods powers who was as sensitive as a peach. Just learn already you can't bring Ganker out of Ganker and you wouldn't want to. Use the places to shit on shitters and then come here to talk smack. Once you've figured this out you'll be much happier.
Oh nononono. I don't want Ganker outside of Ganker. I've done that in the past. It turns into an epic shitfest where there's That One Guy that has to be the most obnoxious person possible because it's HE-LARRY-US.
But with Steam Communities that guy had mod powers.
With Discord that guy is not allowed to exist, but still happens, and you get banned, and doxxed if you point it out.
Most people just want something similar to Barrens public chat from Vanilla/BC era, but with more community aspect.
>Barrens
so an ingame chat? >With Discord that guy is not allowed to exist, but still happens, and you get banned, and doxxed if you point it out.
Black person (You) can make your own server with your own friends, and you don't have to worry about hypotheticals that never happened.
No, but the fact that you described it as such means you don't understand what I'm getting at when I say "Barrens chat"
>what's wrong with it?
Online communities are turning into Elven enclaves from the late Third Age. You're not seeing them unless you're supposed to.
It's just a different face of the same shit-stained coin.
Communities were always shit unless it has personal friends or people that do not give a shit, so you were doomed from the start.
The kind of person who b***hes about there being nowhere to talk about video games is also the type of person that has zero friends because of their repulsive personality.
I got invited to join an old community of mine that migrated to Discord, but I declined because I know discord is a shithole for things like the scenario you just described. I know that group wouldn't be that way, but all it takes is one butthurt person to report it to administration and the discord over-jannies will show up and start purging everything with the fury of a thousand dilations.
"Just don't be right wing" is not an acceptable solution, because what's politically correct today becomes tomorrow's hate speech. I want to avoid that egg-shell minefield like the plague.
Its both. Pedos don't have to worry about consequences unless they are a moron and gets catfished by bait or it looks bad for a group/company/brand.
As far as recording everything goes, Discord definitely sells your data and you can see it in your Youtube recommended if people you talk to talk about a thing that is tangentially related to your hobbies.
Man I used to get fricking PM'd by outright middle-aged men from across the planet when I was a teen on ICQ. I know groomers are a thing.
Discord will fricking purge you for pointing it out, because "groomer" is a derogatory word used by "Chuds" and "MAGATS"
>discord records everything you do >discord is full of pedos
which is it?
Who do you think they're recording and for what reason?
>le public servers are... le cringe
Yeah no shit sherlock that is why nobody joins public servers out of the blue.
At best people join a server that HAPPENS to be public (e.g they follow the link of a game that is in development, and that game thought they might as well be Public to attract more clicks)
The overwhelming majority of people browse Discord in the same ways as they did Skype groups: closed communities that only invite specific people in.
>every community about specific vidya is full of autism and casuals who just happened to really like that game a lot >every community about vidya in general is full of casuals who want to chat more than play vidya >most indie developers don't want to pay for forums and aren't content with Steam forums, instead they make Discord servers and tell a bunch of autists to moderate for free >if the game has a modding scene that isn't big on Nexus or Moddb or some other mod site a significant amount of mods will be locked behind Discord >deleting your own messages takes forever even with an automated script and even deleting your account leaves a lot of messages from a dummy account >often breaks when searching for shit, making using it for data archival a b***h >interface is hostile to large posts, designed for smartphone usage
The site is actually running negatives in revenue (they manage a ton of servers and they don't make enough profit from Nitro) but it's held afloat by all the investors who are interested in data. Just like Twitter.
I am in the process of moving my community of people from Discord to Guilded.
The thing that is causing this was the change in PP and TOS regarding that they now Record all voice and stream content.
Now in a statement discord says they don't do it without the user knowing they are but, as you know that usually just means in the TOS you sign you'll acknowledge that they record at all times.
Here if you want:
https://www.guilded.gg/i/2DR18mjp
The biggest issue is that so many people are lazy or deadset on staying on discord because their other servers are on there.
Though Guilded does have really cool features like, brackets, polls, forums, threads, etc...
I tried matrix and element it was too cumbersome for majority of people and the lack of proper Voice chat was a massive downgrade along with many of the lacking features. Guilded allowed for extra features with more privacy than discord.
What kinds of games do you play there lad?
Every kind you can think of. Though we keep out gore and porn. (I really don't get discord servers that allow porn and porn voice chats. You are inviting the worst kind of behaviors and people with it.)
Currently I was hosting a parsec DBZ TTT for 4 people and survival mode. It was a lot of fun. And for some of the people that joined I talked a bit about my time in the game's industry. Pic rel is one story of when it was confirmed to me that an industry blacklist IS REAL and is shared amongst the various companies.
>always wanted a lively server where people post all the time and you can just hop into a conversation at any time, like the old IRC days >Every server is always either dead or full of awful people not worth talking to
>hey guys why are you using that convenient and free program that spies on you for the CCP (citation needed) >just download ventrillo and everyone chip in while i set us up a server okay? >... why arent you switching.... you're literally killing modern vidya >but it's full of trannies >it runs on chromium so it's taking up 1% of your computer's ram, don't you realize how bad it's killing your computer performance?
>afraid of it being full of weirdos obsessed with politics and other irrelevant shit
you're posting in a fringe off-topic thread on Ganker, you're already in a community full of weirdos obsessed with politics and other irrelevant shit
the only difference is that in any other places there is accountability for your shitty posts
>the only difference is that in any other places there is accountability for your shitty posts
You unironically type like the biggest homosexual I have seen in a long time. Go back.
Here's the hard pill to swallow: Gaming communities are easier to find and get into more than ever nowadays. The Problem is (You). You are just older and have less tolerance for bullshit than you did as a kid, so you're endlessly window shopping for the "right" online community instead of actually giving anything a shot first.
t. me talking about myself as a 30 year old
I joined a server a few months ago to learn about an FF11 private server. That was my introduction to discord. It just seems like a bunch of idiots talking non stop. If I ever made a game I wouldn't touch discord.
>join FiveM Drifting discord (rules said you must be 18+) >16 year old moderator constantly interrupts normal server related conversations talking about being bi-sexual >server owner creates new RP server after teasing it for some time. >16 year old mod proceeds to ruin roleplay by flying around in a Jet and blowing shit up >server owner hires programmer to develop the RP server more >16 year old mod is made "commissioner" of the police force >22/24 players in the server are now part of the police force
I just wanted to do some trucking and light RP but these discord twats ruined everything.
Never again /blog
I hate how many guides and resources are going to be lost because they're spread across discord channels rather than being archived or at least stored on forums everybody can read. Tons of info that will disappear because nobody thought to share it anywhere besides a discord server.
>my community only exists because one dude funds a website VPS and an associated IRC server and Teamspeak >We've existed for over a decade >Half the server now resides on a Discord server bridged with IRC using a bot
In some ways the fact I don't have to put up with Discord is great but I am constantly reminded how splintered the group is getting. Every time someone refers to an event organized on another server I know the only reason I'm hearing about it is because the person is in both places. I don't think people grasp how truely awful this atomization is getting, and at the same time I don't think people appreciate the sheer number of people out there who want to talk in semiprivate settings.
People want semi-private settings because there's so much shit going on and causing uncontrollable drama, that people are basically hunkering down to avoid it.
You think /misc/-posting on Ganker is annoying, you think the shit on Twitter looks scary, but imagine that infiltrating your community.
Imagine having to walk on egg shells all the time because you never know what innocuous thing you will post that will make the entire chat explode. Never knowing when someone's going to report the chat to the moderators who can, will, and have banned entire discord groups, and servers over the tiniest thing.
Basically yeah. But you can't even bring that up, because some homosexual will just go, "Yeah but previous internet communities did that!" And if you bring up the shitty people that swamp discord, waiting for you to slip up and wrongthink, so they can't gleefully get you unpersoned, they just go, "That's just a meme boogeyman, you don't have any real criticisms or complaints!"
So tired. I'm so tired. Not of the shitty things, but of the fricking non-stop gaslighting.
>Discord....is....LE BAD!
For what reason? Is it NEW, BAD? Is it POPULAR, BAD?
There as been various voicechat programs over the years. It's by far the easiest to set up and use, unlike vent/mumble/TS. It's on basically most major platforms, even browsers. Not only that but it's fricking free. I've had my own server for long time now and have not paid a single cent. It's only for friends, aka people I know in real life. >homosexuals/groomers/pedos/trannies
They use every single channel that they can, Hell I almost am for sure there was a story about a pedo trying to contact vids via the DS/3DS
>raids, 24hour queer ops, what ever they are called now.
Been all over the place, hell Ganker it's self used to be a hub of it. IRCs were also popular.
>All these homosexuals saying they don't have any alternatives
Matrix exists. Alt-chans that are still alive and well exist (yes even if they get 10 posts per hour you fricking ADD morons), there are still wikis that aren't fricking Fandom trash, yet none of you stick to your principles and use them. None of you are doing anything to spread the word. You are just lazy and want to scream into the void thinking it'll make any difference.
the problem is, "alternatives" to social media made for those who are filtered by their own schizophrenia are obviously filled with schizo morons. You can see how bad this is for yourself if you take a look at other chans to find people who are even filtered from this clownhole.
As opposed to AItards, BBC posters, zoomers taking twitter screencaps, unironic furries and trannies who admit they shitpost here constantly 24/7?
I have seen alt-chan posters and they are pretty much the same as anyone here except some of them there actually discuss the hobbies they're into. At most some homosexual from spam his shitty jak edits for weeks and then the mods delete them, then he gets bored and goes away. /gif/, Ganker, /ic/ and Ganker posters are 100% more schizophrenic than any of the altchans I went to.
Discord is pretty strange honestly. I tried getting into it not long ago during a period when I had no friends in real life but its just full of terminally online zoomers. I remember joining a server called like 'chill lo fi anime club' and there was just layers of slang and inside jokes that made most of it gibberish. I think you have to visit a public server for something you like, make yourself known and eventually someone will invite you to a private one, but I'm not that desperate for friends so I don't bother with it anymore.
I encourage every anon to try the group voice chats or film nights on the public servers thoughever because it can be fricking hilarious.
I thought my moronic ass thought you wanted a name or some shit. Well whatever, I only knew about it from here anyway, so some people already do know and try to shill it here and there.
OId forums with 1000+ users were cancer, but small ones with 50-150 were amazing.
Big enough to have new discussion every day, but small enough to still have the feeling of a close community.
I remember just lurking google for hours looking for forums to join and post about random shit
Hopefully whatever comes next won't be such an Orwellian crapfest, but since that seems par for the course these days, I bet it'll just be worse. They'll call it a feature, and make you pay for it.
what's wrong with it?
>Muh boogeyman
I find it difficult to happen upon organic servers that are actually decent, and many in-game community tools (like in MMO's) are hamstrung because everyone's on Discord. Also even in the decent servers I've found, troonyism, highly insular server owner moronation, and cringe political kvetching seems rife. Maybe I'm just old.
>what's wrong with it?
grooming
>he says while on Ganker
>oh no the Ganker anons groomin' KIDZZ
like kids are on Ganker
go read global rule 2, then leave and never come back
I unironically encountered 2 guys on Discord, 1 far left and other other far right trying to tell and make me agree with their batshit world views that I don't care about when I just wanted to enjoy the game in co-op instead of playing alone.
the people grooming on Ganker all use discord
You have to be 18+ to post here
just don't get groomed? sounds like a you problem.
the thing with discord is, yeah it's got a lot of shitty people. but you can just not engage with them. the mistake is people expect it to be like forums of ye olde days. That is never coming back. It's perfectly fine if you use it for it's intended purpose, which is to host a server for you and the people you play games with to communicate. If you are using it as a general social platform, that's your prerogative.
>"It's okay that things are terrible. It's your fault, really. Just lower your expectations, and accept the slide? Just don't do anything you're not supposed to, okay?
that's not what i said. who are you quoting ?
>pedo joins your server
>report them to the feds and ban them
>???
>normal person has an opinion that was acceptable 10 years ago
>banned, doxxed, FBI called, community obliterated by madmins.
why would you do this on your server that you host?
What? Have what was once a perfectly acceptable opinion that has now been decided to be hate-speech/wrong-think? I dunno, bro. I guess I don't spend enough time on Twatter keeping up with Le Current Thing.
I can say Black person on my server, I don't see these issues because I don't invite homosexuals.
>Le
stop
>Stop
Stop what? Don't Le? Le Stop Le'ing?
Le don't Le?
>Stop what? Don't the? The stop the'ing? The don't the?
not ftw
not epic
Why would you allow kids into your server to begin with?
Do your part and ban underage morons off the internet.
Discord along Reddit have ruined the Internet.
>we'd have proper discussion on a forum
Fricking Christ you boomers are pathetic. Go to any Deja Usenet forum from before Google took over and it's all the most long-winded bullshit. I don't want to have to read through a book to learn that you're moronic.
have a nice day you fricking homosexual. There, it's short sweet and to the point
>only seething
>no point
>no arguments
Yeah, you're exactly the problem.
I'm the solution
>No arguments
Go write a paper if you want me to read your arguments (I still won't), I'm here to shitpost and call you a moron.
It's funny how your first post was seething that the nasty mean boomers write too much and now you're acting hard as nails kek. have a nice day ADHD zoomer gay
Calling you a moron isn't "hard as nails" (boomerspeak btw), it's just funny. Also yeah you are pretty moronic if you complain about modern discourse on fricking Ganker. Go find something better to do with your time if what you have to say is so fricking important, I'll be here thinking for the next ~3 minutes or so about how moronic you are before forgetting about you forever because none of this shit matters
>none of this shit matters
yet you come crying in here like a little b***h lmao. Keep at it, go on
>moron
>"Oooh we got a TOUGH GUY over here!"
Log off, you're clearly too old to be on here on a Sunday
I can tell you're obese by the way you type kek. Besides Sunday is the day people rest you moron
Nice selfie
>posting gay shit
zoomers are so goddamn gay
Back in my day we used to berate blatantly underage posters. Now it's the opposite.
There's more people on the internet now than ever before, yet it feels like there's absolutely nowhere to call home. Boards have gone to shit, altchans and forums are dead, everyone's a d*scord zoomie with nothing worthwhile to say.
Where did all my 90s-born brethren go? What dark corner of the internet have they escaped to?
They all went to live their lives while you still thought the internet was your home
I know but I refuse to accept it
If I told you, morons from here would flood it
>implying we don't do both
Also, nice time to b***h about zoomer homosexuals. It's the weekend, what were you expecting with this kind of thread?
>Where did all my 90s-born brethren go? What dark corner of the internet have they escaped to?
I think they got jobs and raised a family
/vst/ /vr/ /vrpg/ /vm/ and sometimes /vg/
Zoomers did everything they could to wreck this place. Because they were introduced to the internet as 9 year olds, they learned how to behave on the internet as 9 year olds. They've kept this act up all throughout their adult lives, as well. To them, the internet is just a place to make an ass of yourself for shits and giggles, and taking anything serious is "oof big cringe if true buh on g fr fr no cap"
If any time someone wants to harp on about intentionally lowering the level of discourse, it all falls on them.
>zoomers made my life worse
i guess you believe israelites fricked your mom as well?
here's your (You) swatty
on god bussin bruh fr fr fr dab dip drip tik tok dance
Okay boomer
you're posting on a forum about videogames dude. This place is meant for children
>This place is meant for children
You are delusional.
For zoomers to complain that things will get worse, they'll have to have ever experienced "good" to begin with, and they never did, because they wrecked it long before they matured to a degree to appreciate it.
i only came here because people told me to "go back to Ganker" on forums in the 2000s lmao
What they meant was "go back to /b/"
Which you immediately did, wrecked hard, then spread out to the rest of the site.
we will replace you
87’ here. Can you try not being so embarrassing? Yeah the Internet is very different now. We’re fricking old. You’re talking about decades ago, you're almost 40 and crying to a bunch of zoomers that the Internet sucks now lol
Ah. The nihilist shows up. How's the latest MCU slop, Fellow Millennial? Are you enjoying Hogwarts?
ayo, member when those boys were posting their bussy
shit was cash no cap, where I go for that shit now man?
Funny, I actually considered that Black person speak. When did the youth start using it?
around 2010 onwards, when I dropped out of highschool the school spirit shit was all Black person music and that was pushed by the adults, I don't know why zoomers have taken such an anti rebellious attitude about things, otherwise they would be trad
>Where did all my 90s-born brethren go?
I'm on discord, talking to my friends. Unrelatable for you I'm sure
Im here, just silently replaying classics (pc games only) and not shitposting on vietnamese forums. I don't play gachas, nu sgit or console crap, no f2p garbage as well. Not being the target audience is sad, but manageable.
Nothing wrong with the zoomers here. All they do is discuss vidya, while all the 'based millennials' do is cry about zoomers and talk about how they can't have sex.
zoomers put sex on a pedestal and still aren't having it or are resorting to homosexuality
40% of Zoomer males have some form of erectile dysfunction. Probably explains why they scream so hard about "coomer threads" on Ganker as if soft-core (and hard-core) image dumps haven't been a thing here since 2008.
no new thing under the sun, we're just going into a dark age where eunuchs are a thing
It's the fricking zoomers creating those dogshit coomer threads. I'm probably older than most people here and I remember when I was 18 and used to jerk off all day. I'm past it though and now that shit just annoys me.
How old are you, bro? You might have low T.
It's not low. It's just not through the roof anymore. You balance out and stop thinking about pussy all day. Then you're around people who haven't went through that yet and they just come off as annoying. Like a pothead that only thinks and talks about weed.
>it's not low
It's low. I can still pull it multiple times per day. I can put on muscle mass through minor effort.
>It's low. I can still pull it multiple times per day.
Yeah so can I. The thing is that I don't care too anymore.
But you see how you b***h about it? That's a low-T symptom. You could just look away, instead you sperg out over Coomer threads.
Yeah, right.
morons like you ruined the internet. It's like trying to talk about family planning or retirement funds with a Black person.
As of you read any book on your entire life zoomie
there used to be dedicated forums to every single game, band, hobby...anything! I spent years posting in the official morrowind forums and korn forums and have made friends whom I spoke to for years. nowadays everything is centralized and it almost seems as if its illegal for any big influence to create their own community. Now what we have is places like Ganker and reddit and resetera where either you succumb to the homosexualry and join the chamber or try to filter anything good if there is any through all the shitposts.
you can bet your ass the choice to have the application named discord was a deliberate dark magick shenanigans.
>It's centralized, proprietary Tencent spyware.
So like Ganker
What the frick does this even mean?
>not owned by tencent
>don't have to install it
>>don't have to install it
you can use discord through a website
You get reduced features for doing so, but how is Ganker like discord?
>You get reduced features for doing so
don't tell me you actually care about yiffing with the boys on the voice, you deserve to get spied on as a liability to human race in that case
>You get reduced features for doing so
No you don't.
>>not owned by tencent
Keep telling yourself that. Hiroshima totally owns 100% of this site.
>>don't have to install it
Black person what the frick does that have to do with anything?
then don't install their client ? The browser version works fine
bloated, chink botnet, info is hard to find.
I prefer forums, Discord is just forums but with 10x more autism.
The people can't figure out forums are the same one's shitting up every discord server with their autistic opinions.
it can't be indexed like a forum so if you have a problem with a specific game/program you have to make an account, give them your phone number, join the discord (and sometimes you even have to wait for admin approval) before you can search for/ask for what it is you're seeking.
it's very popular with teens and alphabet people which makes public servers generally unusable for anything other than resources
Nothing that doesn't also apply to any other given program or forum beyond being much more popular.
I'd rather have some out of date information over no information.
No you don't. You want correct information, and you want to access it.
Thanks to Reddit and Discord you get neither.
Incorrect information is far more dangerous han no information at all.
>laughs_in_anarchists_cookbook.pdf
Nothing really.
People here don't know how to search for adult communities (or horrifically don't WANT to)
Chinese spyware, horrible design with "rooms", you are expected to not dig through the whole chat history so all useful information unless gathered and compiled by enthusiasts is lost forever in an endless flow of shittalk. Schizophrenic morons dominate every single channel or there, moronic mods and rules destroy any chance for having fun. And it is mostly used by zoomers who buy default can't form a community around a game without turning it into shit or completely killing it.
>complains about schizophrenic morons overrunning channels
>also complains about over moderation
which is it?
aside from the spyware argument and lack of actual search engine indexability, nothing
everything that's actually wrong and people seethe at is less discord's misdoing and more the general shift in the mentality of the internet induced by social media
Bad optimization, but the web version is alright
There are not good communities aside of the one that you make, mentally ill homosexuals are going to be there whether you use discord or not. Sorry anon.
Every place has the same memes, slogans and jokes.
Back then you used to have your own injokes and vocabulary for each specific gaming community, now it's all "pepega" this and "lolw" that.
It's the McDonaldfication of online communities, they all turned into the same bland spaces with the same boring twitch-Black person speech.
top kek, this literally this but unironically! based
>reddit lingo
Go back
The future is complete homogenization of all internet communities, W rizz anon
>what's wrong with it?
All the "gamers" out there want their own special hidey hole.
developers also promote and incentivize its use, I'm pretty sure that's why game coms are so barebones nowadays
>tfw a single server on discord
>two of the mods are a guy and gal from here so I get away with a few stuff
>normalgays get mad
>I talk with the two mods and have a fun time.
I kinda feel blessed. I still hate the app because of how shitty it is, but im glad that I hit the jackpot for the only time I ever joined a server.
It's kinda crazy, there are higher chances socializing and finding new friends on some shitty mmo chatroom compared to discord these days
*Inser generic friendless /misc/tard rant*
It'll happen to you, kid.
It'll happen to you.
>"There's nothing wrong with it"
>proceeds to lay out a perfectly acceptable excuse for why it's shit
That's not a discord problem thats a user problem. Discord is a messaging app first and foremost and is advertised as such. I'm not wrong in what I'm saying at all.
>it's a user problem
>discord's userbase is absolute shit
It's a coincidence, not a feature, eh?
>userbase
that's like going on a WoW vent server and thinking all vent users are WoW gays. Anyone can be on discord for different things.
Yeah, but WoW has broad, and mass appeal.
Discord seems to attract a certain type of person, and the admins on it have no qualms with purging entire communities over a single post.
>Yeah, but WoW has broad, and mass appeal
you're missing the point, there could be a crpg server x furry server x golf server for all I know. It's a messaging app where people can host their own servers. I could make a /drawgay/ server right now and could just use it a shitty booru or chat hang out.
>Discord seems to attract a certain type of person
the vast majority of people who don't use IRC, Skype, TS or Vent anymore.
>the vast majority of people who don't use IRC, Skype, TS or Vent anymore.
Yeah. What a shame, too. Follow the fad, go where the herd is going. Stop looking at the sign about the door. Just walk in.
I see it this way
>(You) have a personal circle that probably shares your exact sentiments
keep using IRC
>(You) just want to hang and chat with friends during vidya
keep using IRC, or use discord/steam chat.
It's not as Orwellian as you make it out to be and I'm tired of hyperbolic shut-ins that avoid normal-gays anyhow, keep pretending like it is.
Of course. That's all it is. Really truly. Just a bunch of annoying morons hating something because their personal problems and blaming it on outside sources. There cannot ever be a logical reason for disliking the current thing.
yes, it actually is really hard to believe that someone who saves wojaks on his computer hates *current thing* for rational reasons rather than because their boogeyman of the hours uses it
You sound like a disaffected teenager, or a 20-something with arrested development.
>Everyone's just a stupid clone that can't think for themselves! Everyone but meeeeeeee!
You literally talk like a edgy teenager.
bold words from someone who wrote
There's a huge difference between saying a lot of people aren't thinking, and saying none of the people I disagree with are capable of thought.

Poor babby. Sorry you cannot read very well, or formulate reasonable arguments and have to lash out.
Go cry about it on discord?
that's literally the biggest complaint, and the fact that on top of all of that it's tailor made for the cringe tumblrinas that inhabit it, so you end up having to cross paths with them to access said info
search there is fricking dogshit so I refuse to use it
I don't know how many times now I've seen requests for things that could easily be answered with "here's a link" be instead answered with "join this discord". It's the most impractical way of doing things.
Internet communities are shit, you're on Ganker, you should know this. Asking someone to join one should never be the answer for something.
>join a community
>they now want to know your real life name so they can refer to you with it - frick your nickname, frick anonymity
>private channels so they can circlejerk in them
>small-time mods trying to overmoderate everything
>everyone thinks that joining the community means you need to communicate with them 24/7
>homosexuals with literal twitter bios in their profile everywhere
>obligatory NSFW channel where degenerates UwU at each other
>drama
>drama everywhere
everywhere
last time i broke down and joined a discord server, the first post I saw was some dude posting a fricking break up essay to his internet friend about why they can't bear to be "close friends" with them anymore. what a fricking disaster.
are those birds feet filled with blueberry gatorade
Ganker's not nearly as pretentious. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not.
I find it funny that most of the criticisms regarding the social mentality of its users such as petty drama and powertripping admins could be found in its predecessors.
The only valid criticisms against Discord is how it's outright spyware at this point and that resources have been congregated to it with little ease of access.
>ask for valid criticism
>gets valid criticism in response
>"No not that"
why exactly are they so predictable..?
>just put all your community into a black box that will disappear if a single company goes under bro
IRC for troons.
Check out /vg/ but be warned that some of the generals in there have a lot of drama going on so if you want to avoid stuff like clique drama and cúmbrains spamming all the time then I'm sorry to say but discord is your only choice. It has none of those issues.
/vg/ is really really bad. You'll get banned instantly if you insult or quote a mod.
/vg/ is the one and only place on this site that I'd consider a real containment board. It keeps all the absolute worst, and most vile people this site can attract all in one place.

Why would you wanna be a part of any community in current year?
navigating it is the only problem I have with it. there is nothing wrong with it.

You need irl friends into vidya or a group of online friends who you have known before discord was a thing. if you have neither than its 99% over

DIscord: Not even once
Make friends online while playing what you like and create some private group chat or whatever. Otherwise it's either rummaging to the trash within the chans to find something good or taking it up the ass and making a discord account.
Back in my day you had plenty of dedicated forums where it was easy to make the right frens and add them on XFire to make dedicated servers for games, mods, etc. Now you have to dive in the pool with everybody else and filter people as you swim.
why would you want to find one? you will just be talking to normalhomosexuals
Yeah, Ganker.org/v
:^)
>gaming community
by playing the game, any game where talking to people is common. especially co-op or other genres where being "toxic" (i hate this word, but discord is the definition of it) is less common
That's because discussing censorship has been meme'd into being 'cringe' so why care? Just consume, get excited for new product and consume again.

I'm being very literal and liberal with the use of 'boomer', and when I went on there I heard nothing but rusted wind pipes of mid-life smokers and what I assume are actual dads.
>literal and liberal
Bro...
I'm using 'liberal' liberally.
Stop it.
>Generous in amount; ample.
>Not strict or literal; loose or approximate.
>literal and liberal
>two diametrically opposed things but simultaneously
Just leave me alone. I can't handle this shit anymore.
literal boomers, I use boomers liberally.
Fine, I get it now. It's my fault, I'm stupid.
Listen Scully, it's not my fault if you cannot comprehend a more "poetic" way of using grammar.
*saves your gaming community in your path*
what's stopping (You) from making your own server, inviting people from your inner circle and only having said circle allowed in there?
Our discord channel has already been nuked a few times, probably autoflagged from some uploaded video or image.
Personally, wouldn't mind going back to mumble, where people actually communicated and played videogames, instead of twitter reposting.
I would use Teamspeak for my group, but there's more than 32 people, and TS requires you to buy a fricking license to unlock the cap. Who's going to bother cracking fricking teamspeak.
Go to gamefaqs. Every game has a board.
/vg/
Or make a thread on a video game board, I don't know.
I never had issues with people on Discords. All my online an irl friends are politically incorrect dickheads. There is no le funni Reddit bullshit. My guild master tells me to dispel rogues because they can't breathe. Get good at picking the right communities, homosexual.
Make a thread here.
If you want constant active discussion - you have to make do with normalgays, which means going on discord.
The only way people would actually stop using discord at this point is if a massive data breach happened
I'm pretty sure that's already happened though.
>gaming community
You're posting in one :^)
Why the frick would you want to find a gaming community? Stop spending so much time online. Internet people are not your friends. Go get married and find some friends. Why would you ever want to associate with gamers? Christ almighty. Zoomers are a plague.
Discord is only good when you use it with your actual friends to play vidya over it, otherwise its a waste of time and sanity.
This, I just use it like modern day skype and don't join any public groups because frick that cancer.
I feel like a lot of the shit people complain about on discord is either easily avoidable or things that you have to actively look for then get mad over
>All of the problems everyone else has doesn't affect me, therefore such problems don't exist!
Low IQ take.
>Fricking moronic incel who watched too much anime attempt at armchair psychology
Do you type all that garbage while having anime girl voice in your head? No actual community, group wants morons like you around, discord nor any other program isn't really to blame, period.
have a nice day, notmalhomosexual wienersucker
looks like I struck a little bit close to home.
This is the future.
>gaming community
what a loser
Yeah cause the drama fan forums ran by power tripping nerds was any better back in the day? homosexuals will always be homosexuals anon. Look no further than team liquid's forums for the perfect example.
I dunno, man. Forums were really gay, but Discord takes what made Steam Communities bad, and distilled it into a finely aged bourbon of shit.
Online communities are turning into Elven enclaves from the late Third Age. You're not seeing them unless you're supposed to.
Seeing people greentexting outside of imageboards is the most annoying thing to witness
Doesn't Discord has its own version of meme arrows?
It's just a different face of the same shit-stained coin.
Communities were always shit unless it has personal friends or people that do not give a shit, so you were doomed from the start.
>he doesn’t have an established friend group to discuss videogame topics with
Maybe stop being a reclusive loser?
The kind of person who b***hes about there being nowhere to talk about video games is also the type of person that has zero friends because of their repulsive personality.
>join a chill 300k server aboiut mod that I like
>After few month it get nuked becouse creator posted a stonetoss comic
I got invited to join an old community of mine that migrated to Discord, but I declined because I know discord is a shithole for things like the scenario you just described. I know that group wouldn't be that way, but all it takes is one butthurt person to report it to administration and the discord over-jannies will show up and start purging everything with the fury of a thousand dilations.
"Just don't be right wing" is not an acceptable solution, because what's politically correct today becomes tomorrow's hate speech. I want to avoid that egg-shell minefield like the plague.
few month it get nuked becouse creator posted a stonetoss comic
Who nuked it, the Discord management?
You can't be fricking serious.
Apparently some homosexual had some special privileges to collect the info, even tho he was banned like 2 or 3 times.
Sounds like my kind of place.
That could have been my server, right now.
So a spy for Discord chinks.
Why cannot they just leave communities alone.
I would understand monitoring for potential terrorism shit, but memes?
To these people, memes are terrorism. Disagreeing with their ~message~ is worse than killing people.
If you didn't make friends to play/talk vidya with during your teens/early adulthood you're fricked now.
i did, but then i abandoned them becuz of mental illness lol
nothing wrong with playing by yourself
What the heck is a gaming community
A community that games. Are you moronic?
An offshoot of the reading community
>Gaming community
How about you just play games and leave the social media to twitter and facebook moron.
There isn't a single service as feature rich or accessible as discord.
If you're some pedo worried about being recorded then use TS or something.
Discord is literally the place to be if you're a pedo.
It's MAGAgays and alt-right noggers that have something to worry about on Discord.
>discord records everything you do
>discord is full of pedos
which is it?
Looking forward to discord creating the first ever bot that tries to groom you
Its both. Pedos don't have to worry about consequences unless they are a moron and gets catfished by bait or it looks bad for a group/company/brand.
As far as recording everything goes, Discord definitely sells your data and you can see it in your Youtube recommended if people you talk to talk about a thing that is tangentially related to your hobbies.
homies talking like groomers haven't been a thing since msn chat room days
Man I used to get fricking PM'd by outright middle-aged men from across the planet when I was a teen on ICQ. I know groomers are a thing.
Discord will fricking purge you for pointing it out, because "groomer" is a derogatory word used by "Chuds" and "MAGATS"
The overwhelming majority of people browse Discord in the same ways as they did Skype groups: closed communities that only invite specific people in.
>every community about specific vidya is full of autism and casuals who just happened to really like that game a lot
>every community about vidya in general is full of casuals who want to chat more than play vidya
>most indie developers don't want to pay for forums and aren't content with Steam forums, instead they make Discord servers and tell a bunch of autists to moderate for free
>if the game has a modding scene that isn't big on Nexus or Moddb or some other mod site a significant amount of mods will be locked behind Discord
>deleting your own messages takes forever even with an automated script and even deleting your account leaves a lot of messages from a dummy account
>often breaks when searching for shit, making using it for data archival a b***h
>interface is hostile to large posts, designed for smartphone usage
Switching from one proprietary app to another, for what reason? Just use revolt or matrix
I tried matrix and element it was too cumbersome for majority of people and the lack of proper Voice chat was a massive downgrade along with many of the lacking features. Guilded allowed for extra features with more privacy than discord.
What kinds of games do you play there lad?
>always wanted a lively server where people post all the time and you can just hop into a conversation at any time, like the old IRC days
>Every server is always either dead or full of awful people not worth talking to
>hey guys why are you using that convenient and free program that spies on you for the CCP (citation needed)
>just download ventrillo and everyone chip in while i set us up a server okay?
>... why arent you switching.... you're literally killing modern vidya
>but it's full of trannies
>it runs on chromium so it's taking up 1% of your computer's ram, don't you realize how bad it's killing your computer performance?
>(citation needed)
didnt read the rest homosexual
>the moronic /misc/cuck who claims to be the real source of truth gets mad when asked to verify his claims
>/pol/
rent free
>always wanted to join a community for my favorite franchise
>afraid of it being full of weirdos obsessed with politics and other irrelevant shit
came close once though.
Videogames communities are always shit, that's has been the golden rule since forever.
Sucks that you never found a good one. I can definitely say there have been some great ones I was apart of.
>afraid of it being full of weirdos obsessed with politics and other irrelevant shit
you're posting in a fringe off-topic thread on Ganker, you're already in a community full of weirdos obsessed with politics and other irrelevant shit
the only difference is that in any other places there is accountability for your shitty posts
>the only difference is that in any other places there is accountability for your shitty posts
You unironically type like the biggest homosexual I have seen in a long time. Go back.
not my problem you chode, choke on a Black person wiener
you are obsessed with black penises, i sincerely hope you get over your mental illness
>o-obsessed
you're seething
Here's the hard pill to swallow: Gaming communities are easier to find and get into more than ever nowadays. The Problem is (You). You are just older and have less tolerance for bullshit than you did as a kid, so you're endlessly window shopping for the "right" online community instead of actually giving anything a shot first.
t. me talking about myself as a 30 year old
>babby's first adult opinion
I joined a server a few months ago to learn about an FF11 private server. That was my introduction to discord. It just seems like a bunch of idiots talking non stop. If I ever made a game I wouldn't touch discord.
i only use it to groom minors into taking hrt. fewer or later they realise they fricked up and kill themself. 3 already did it.
You don't, pisscord is dogshit
>Kicked for having an offensive profile banner
Pic related btw.
Today's heckin' valid is tomorrow's hate crime.
True that.
>Gaming community
CRINGE. Go outside if you want to socialize normalgay.
>join FiveM Drifting discord (rules said you must be 18+)
>16 year old moderator constantly interrupts normal server related conversations talking about being bi-sexual
>server owner creates new RP server after teasing it for some time.
>16 year old mod proceeds to ruin roleplay by flying around in a Jet and blowing shit up
>server owner hires programmer to develop the RP server more
>16 year old mod is made "commissioner" of the police force
>22/24 players in the server are now part of the police force
I just wanted to do some trucking and light RP but these discord twats ruined everything.
Never again /blog
It's so hard to find good RP.
Everyone just wants to fugg, or godmod.
what are you guys thinking about my new discord avatar?
>stonetoss
Enjoy your permaban and doxxing.
qrd?
Posting right wing, 'alt-right' or 'Nazi' stuff on Discord will bring the troony jannies down on you.
I knew that I just don't know anything about Stonetoss.
stonetoss is a nazi
just like me!
Chud.
Black person there is no difference between using this and your old skype group or whatever the frick you're busting your pussy over.
I hate how many guides and resources are going to be lost because they're spread across discord channels rather than being archived or at least stored on forums everybody can read. Tons of info that will disappear because nobody thought to share it anywhere besides a discord server.
It's funny getting close to people then ghosting them on dicksword
>my community only exists because one dude funds a website VPS and an associated IRC server and Teamspeak
>We've existed for over a decade
>Half the server now resides on a Discord server bridged with IRC using a bot
>"Discord isn't that bad"
>people pretty much live in fear because whole community can be literally deleted at whim
Shut up.
I hate having to find people to play dead kusoge anime fighters on discord
I've found some cool forums but I don't talk about them here because my enemies also use this site.
by playing games with them
>How can you find a gaming community in current year WITHOUT this godforsaken app?
Just use Ganker papu! ;3
>Alt-chans that are still alive and well exist
Thanks for reminding me to check ***********
the problem is, "alternatives" to social media made for those who are filtered by their own schizophrenia are obviously filled with schizo morons.
The most active altchan is filled with nonces
Discord is pretty strange honestly. I tried getting into it not long ago during a period when I had no friends in real life but its just full of terminally online zoomers. I remember joining a server called like 'chill lo fi anime club' and there was just layers of slang and inside jokes that made most of it gibberish. I think you have to visit a public server for something you like, make yourself known and eventually someone will invite you to a private one, but I'm not that desperate for friends so I don't bother with it anymore.
I encourage every anon to try the group voice chats or film nights on the public servers thoughever because it can be fricking hilarious.
Any time you see "chill" or "lo fi" you're in for a bad time. That's zoomercore homosexualry right there. HARD GAY zoomercore homosexualry.
Why would you do this... I went out of my way not to mention the name of it and now look at what you're doing.
I thought my moronic ass thought you wanted a name or some shit. Well whatever, I only knew about it from here anyway, so some people already do know and try to shill it here and there.
Why would you want to find a gaming community? Gamers are annoying as hell.
Because they're also annoying as hell and haven't figured out why people avoid them.
its not hard, just one person needs to make the effort to actually go out of their way to start it
anyone want to play some iw4x?
come home
is there an anon vidya room there?
I refuse to use pedo software
0 features and is way too cumbersome to try to move anyone to it from discord or guilded.
Picking this is basically asking to get ostracized from any of your friend groups. I know because I've tried.
OId forums with 1000+ users were cancer, but small ones with 50-150 were amazing.
Big enough to have new discussion every day, but small enough to still have the feeling of a close community.
I remember just lurking google for hours looking for forums to join and post about random shit
ah you meant the tiktok guys? they are cool but I'm not interested in tiktoks tbh
teamspeak is back on the menu fellas.
I don't really give a shit, if discord dies like skype did then I'll just continue to use irc and move on to whatever new shit comes out.
Hopefully whatever comes next won't be such an Orwellian crapfest, but since that seems par for the course these days, I bet it'll just be worse. They'll call it a feature, and make you pay for it.
being able to read everything all the time is a shitty feature
Well. That was easy.
discord is too fast for me, i find it hard to join in on conversations. I'm only active in my irl friends small servers.
