How come 90% of Sinnoh teams look like this despite the wide variety of pokemon the region has to offer?

People use what's convenient.
Fpbp.
There is a lack of need for other mons when the most optimal choices are offered to you as early as route 201 - 202
I don’t use Luxray because of his ears
The ears are an Ozamu Tezuka nod 🙂
They look better when he does them
>why do people use cool looking and good pokemon?
In platinum i would have the top row with togekiss, gallade, and maybe garchomp
they're available early in the game and look cool. i always use gliscor, eveelution, and one of the ice type when i play sinnoh
these two and the eevee's are like the only pokemon post gen 2 that I like
>Lucario
You don't get the Riolu egg from Riley until Iron Island when you have 6 badges and then you have to wait to hatch it and give it a bunch of levels because it's lvl 1.
Yes, and? Literally everyone did all that because they wanted a Lucario.
I didn't do that.
Yes you did
How did you know I was lying
I didn't do that.
I didn't bother to do this until after the post-game
>Literally everyone did all that because they wanted a Lucario.
Lucario was taking a back seat in the minds of most everyone by the time they got the egg. You really think everyone was going to spend the time on raising the Riolu to get a Pokemon they were unfamiliar with? It was a fricking afterthought.
Kids are dumb as shit; some of them can't connect the dots that Riolu=Lucario, and even more of them are sentimental to their currently established teams, even if it's consisting of absolute dogshit 'mons they haphazardly caught on a whim.
Everyone wanted a Lucario because of the movie. And Riley the guy who gives you the Riolu egg has a Lucario and looks like the guy from said movie, of fricking course everyone knew Riolu would evolve into Lucario lmao
>the OG, eternal, shillmon
>taking a back seat, ever
Didn't bother with that
Torterra, Staraptor, Bronzong, Tentacruel, Steelix and Purugly
I loved lucario and played him every time in brawl and I never got him in game because I was moronic/wasn't going to backtrack
I scrolled through the dex and there’s a lot of trade evo mons and honey pokemon. If I could I totally would use snorlax and electivire, but getting them on a casual playthrough is annoying. Plus this platinum we’re talking about. Vanilla games were much worse.
Trading was really easy in gen 4 so the tradeevos aren't that hard to obtain.
My Sinnoh team looks exactly like this except I was too lazy to raise a Lucario and hated Luxray. I used Garchomp, Houndoom, and Scizor instead.
They look cool and you can get 5 of them before the first gym
>turtle is best
Hell yeah
This is usually the team I strive to build in Sinnoh.
>spiritomb
gigabased
>flareon
you poor soul
how tf you catch spiritomb
I have another DS and I use my copy of Diamond to have 1 friend I can interact with to do the stupid underground shit. Its tedious as all hell but it's worth it for Spiritomb.
In DPPt's case, the only way to get Spiritomb was to either have a friend or have two systems and two games, since the Odd Keystone won't actually summon a Spiritomb until you've set it down and then made 32 "unique" interactions in the underground.
BDSP made it way more bearable by only requiring you to seek out 32 npcs rather than players, so it's actually feasible to grab a Spiritomb without those extra factors being necessary.
troony team...
Nah your team is a troony team
>Torterra
>Luxray
>Crobat
>Golduck
>Flareon
>Bibarel
What do i win
Because in DP, there's only 151 Pokemon in the Pokedex, and very poor distribution for actually worthwhile Pokemon after the first few routes of the game.
Almost every single pokemon you find in the wild is usable. The frick are you on about
they messed around and made the early route pokemon too good
r8
genwunner in denial
based
generic
needsanotherDS/10
Scyther and Rhydon need to evolve anon. Unless Scy has evolite but not running Rhyperior is just silly.
>eviolite in gen 4
Half the shinnoh dex consist of:
>Gimmick formes
>Legendaries/event mons out the ass
>Cross gen Evos that require postgame-items and/or trading (+need to import from rse/frlg)
Gen 4 killed the chance of Gamefreak putting effort into the games. When they saw how well Gen 4 sold despite being awful trash, they realised they could just shit out new generations with minimal overhead and they'd still rake in money. Stop celebrating the gen where the games died.
Platinum and HGSS are better than your favorite game
I don't have a favorite game, because video games are for children.
Gen 4 objectively has more effort put in it than any other though? Maybe you think it’s bad (you’re wrong, but that’s besides the point) but you can’t deny that it just has more content than any other gen
I used a Dustox once, remembering it brings me physical pain. All he could ever do is Toxic someone, IF he could outspeed.
My team was
>World Turtle
>Lynx that needs physical buff
>Edgy bird
>Giant floating bell
>Fire duck lips (final evo)
>Slave Bidoof who's also a God
>requires double trading
always worth it baby
I finally managed to use one in PLA and it was everything I ever dreamed of.
Just finished a replay of PLA and Porygon Z ended up being a really good catching slave. Plus STAB Strong Style Hyper Beam is no goddamn joke.
Used this guy in my first run of Platinum, and Jesus Christ, he nuked everything in his path. Having never used Porygon2 or even vanilla Porygon until then, I also found myself pleasantly surprised with how solid of a battler 2 was.
>Gen 5
>Breed Porygon
>Do sidequest stuff to get two upgrades and a dubious disc
>Now has a normal type nuke and a normal type tank before gym 3
Because the game is insanely easy to optimize and beat the ever loving shit out of, which most Pokemon players do.
>starter is obvious
>the bird is stacked
>electric is useful all around
>sinnoh has 8 HM's
>budew is earlygame and is pretty good
>I dont know why Lucario is so common when it's so late and comes at level 1
5/6 of these are super earlygame and far outclass the other mons you find. What else will you use, Happiny? Combee? Fricking Kricketot?
Lucario is worth the investment due to its godly type combo and Aura Sphere, the ONLY Special Fighting Move worth a shit in Gen 4 given its competition is Focus Miss and Vacuum Wave.
>Hating on Kinoketot
ngmi
You get a Togepi egg fairly early and Togetic isn't awful. Ralts and Gibble are also around gym 4 iirc. You have options in Sinnoh if you're not lazy or speedrunning
- you get access to an eevee slightly less than halfway through the game (if you're playing platinum)
- you can get access to rotom and its forms pretty early (in platinum) if you can get the secret key through alternate methods (action replay or messing around with fan servers)
- garchomp
It's a criticism to sinnoh's distribution. Most people who don't have this team with minor variations are aware of it and make a conscious effort to avoid it
>He thinks overused tier is a joke
My only problem with Sinnoh is my team always ends up being almost an exact mirror of Cynthia's team because she uses all the coolest pokemon
The fact that you can do that in Sinnoh is masterful game design. In the other games the champion always used mons that are unavailable to you at that point. Blue is a special case since he’s the rival but he has his starter, Lance has his dragonites which you will absolutely not be high level enough to have at that point in the game, Steven has metagross which is straight up post game locked. The only one that came close to Cynthia is Wallace (too bad he’s a second water type expert pretty much in a row though). They both have a team that you can reproduce but you need to actually explore the game and do side stuff. Both have Milotic, Wallace has Ludicolo (which requires a water stone which requires exploration in emerald), Cynthia has Spiritomb, Garchomp (which requires exploration in DP), and Roserade which requires a shiny stone which requires exploration in all games. Hell, in Platinum, they gave her Togekiss, another shiny stone mon, and they ALSO gave the player a second shiny stone that’s rock climb locked on route 210, only in Platinum! So it’s definitely intentional that you can just come face Cynthia with her exact team but need to have done a whole lot of side stuff in order to do so.
r8 me too
Bready gud
Now thats a fricking team
Because by the time Diamond and Pearl released players had gotten sick of experimenting with team composition and just went for the most efficient crew.
I'm pretty sure this was my first diamond team
awesome team, i wish murk was in platinum
I'm cool
>eveelution
>cool
Get real
Because kids don’t build teams, and Pokémon is easy enough that you rarely need to.
I kept using these as placeholders hoping to replace them with better looking more fun pokemon. None ever showed up.
Hahaha... Please understand, making balanced Pokedex with only 151 Pokemon VERY hard... *shits out more water types because it's my favorite type*
This. I was very disappointed that the pokemon were all so shit that I never felt a need to replace my "temporary" starting team.
Has anyone ever fixed Luxrays ears? The best one I came across is a mega Luxray design. Even though the actual overall design is shit, the ears are better
you forgot Floatzel
>a full team
when i finished heartgold (beat lance) my team was typhlosion, red gyarados, and pidgey lol
because the choices were mostly terrible
for me it was Feraligatr Umbreon and Bellossom and then I had to fill out the rest with legendaries by the end because no Houndoom
crappy experience that was; preferred Sinnoh to Johto
>always full team of 6 and at leats 1 box of cool mons at similar level
>friend at school shows his hgss team
>lvl70 typhlosion
>literally nothing else
based, frick grinding up a full team of shitters when one pokemon will clean sweep the entire game.
That's the only way to play Johto because of its shit level curve that punishes you for using more than two Pokemon (the second Pokemon is to cover for blatant weaknesses your first Pokemon suffers from), I don't see the problem here?
My team was
Empoleon
Drifblim
Leafeon
Weavile
Toxicroak
Magnezone
Sinnoh has the opposite issue of Johto where instead of giving you hordes of shitmons early on and the good ones near the end or in KANTOOOO, they give you good mons early on
Because Sinnoh has the Johto problem but far worse the only reason it isn’t hated like Johto is is because it’s Game Freak shills the frick out or Sinnoh.
>Because Sinnoh has the Johto problem but far worse
what problem
Lack of variety early on which makes you pigeonholed into the same mons to beat the early game
Not really. Even before fighting Gardenia, you access to a large variety. Moreso with BDSP via the grand underground.

seems fine 2 me
Roserade is cute and precious and was the Ace of my Diamond team.
My team for Platinum was typically always Empoleon, Houndoom, Gliscor, Scyther, Rampardos and either Bronzong or Giratina for the last spot. I fricking despise that Gamefreak took Honchkrow from the wild in Platinum, they locked so many Pokemon to a shitty post-game feature most people probably didn't even know existed or they locked the evolutions for several Pokemon behind fricking trades, gen 4's selection feels barren and constrained, playing Emerald by comparison or heck, even the gen 1 games, there's a lot of Pokemon you can use and you're rewarded for exploring, in gen 4 it feels like every single route has almost the same encounter pools for the entire game, it never improves and quite a few of the best Pokemon you get are locked behind scripted events as well. I don't despise gen 4 but it's pretty obvious it has a lot of issues.
It takes a lot to be the biggest schizo on Ganker but by God do you excel at it.
>Empoleon
>Staraptor
>Roserade
>Garchomp
>Dusknoir
>Weavile
My last Platinum team, admittedly pretty generic. Like others have said most of the good stuff comes early on in Sinnoh.
They don’t
Love watching people always mention their quirky unique Sinnoh teams every time this topic gets mentioned
Yeah, discussing team composition is a pretty fun part of pokemon
I agree anon, but these are genwar threads, not discussions, so you'll only get
>NOOOOOO STOP SHOWING YOUR DIFFERENT TEAMS IT GOES AGAINST MUH NARRATIVE
My most recent Pearl team:
>Torterra
>Vespiquen
>Bastiodon
>Mismagius
>Toxicroak
>Weavile
It’s honestly not that hard to make a unique team out of what’s available in even DP, the only reason you see so many people settling for mons like Staraptor, Luxray, Roserade, Floatzel, etc is because they’re powerful and easily accessible early in the game. There may be other interesting mons available later on but unless you’re deliberately experimenting there’s no reason to use those mons when you’ve already been given all you need at the beginning of the game.
Why did you use for Fly?
How was Bastiodon? I love its design but it looks frustrating to use with its nonexistent attacking stats
Guess this is a stealth sinnoh team thread so I'm posting the team I used for my last Platinum playthrough. (Add Garchomp to the cookie cutter team list for Platinum tbdesu). Luxray was basically just the "6th slot" I wanted to fill since I didn't have much for water types besides thunderbolt on gardevoir. I'm anal about no type overlap otherwise I would be running Magnezone in its place.
I don't know how DP's regional dex got past playtesting considering Volkner and Flint's teams. Though regional dex design has never been Gamefreak's strong suit so maybe they just didn't give a frick.
>name
Have you visited a place called Harlem recently?
R8?
Mine.
Snorlax took me 3 fricking weeks.
just needs a version exclusive from dp
I would love to use Glameow, but it wasn't on Platinum.
For 10 year old me it was,
Empoleon
Rampardos
Honchkrow
Roserade
Garchomp
DIALGA frick i loved using roar of time
Nidoking syndrome
Staraptor and Luxray are mons you get very early and become very good when they evolve. GF really underestimated how busted intimidate is when they designed early mons, especially in Sinnoh
Lucario is one of the most popular pokemon and the game gives it to you for free
In platinum you can add Garchomp which you get for free on victory road and unlike the other pseudos you actually see evolve before the league without having to overlevel
You’ll notice people use these mons every time they’re given the occasion to, no matter the game. Lucario is a very popular pick for B2W2 and XY too for example, and while Luxray and Staraptor haven’t been in another regional dex until SV, they were very popular picks in unbound style rom hacks where pretty much every pokemon is available.
Garchomp needs no introduction.
im ashamed to say how many games I’ve used lucario in lel
Two reasons, mostly.
Some pokemon (aka: 'mons like Gible) are completely out of the way, people just miss them entirely. I could go as far as to say that Lucario is also pretty out there as well, but I digress.
Floatzel usually ended up on peoples teams in their place, and the box legendary typically ended up on kid's teams.
The second reason is because the variety in the early-game is pretty much tailored to giving you 5 'mons that could theoretically take you through the whole game, save the 6th slot which can be whoeverthefrick, such as the box legendary or Lucario.
I thought Luxray was a lion
she’s a monkey-cheetah
HMs and freaky-long health bar animations ruined the piss out of gen 4 for me
Wait until you try gen 3
>Wide variety
Well that's exactly the problem, there is no variety.
Out of 150 mons in the DP dex, less than HALF have no relation to previous gens and half of those aren't better or cooler than Staraptor, Luxray and Floatzel.
>dex is small if I apply arbitrary rules
>absolute garbage shitmons
…but enough about hoenn
Ah yes the vide variety of version exclusives, trade evolutions, postgame locked mons and absolute garbage shitmons locked behind progress-halting rng. Truly the dex of all time.
> version exclusives, trade evolutions, postgame locked mons and absolute garbage shitmons locked behind progress-halting rng.
just like every other game? what gen 4 pokemon are locked to the post game anyway
I think he means the cross gen evos that aren’t in DP’s regional dex
…which aren’t in the regional dex so them being "post game locked" is just normal kek
Sinnoh has some niche designs so I get that people dont want to get finneon on their team.
wtf is wrong with finneon
>Infernape solo's the game
>Staraptor solo's the game
>Luxray has weak moves but still overall useful with intimidate (double intimidate with emo bird)
>Roserade is overall balanced
>Gastrodon never dies but people usually setlle for gay otter
>Garchomp solo's the game
>Togekiss paraflinches the game
Platinum balance is a joke
>no crobat
>no garchomp
TERMINALLY shit taste is the only answer why your team would look like this.
My main Platinum team. Had to swap out Vaporeon for Azumarill in Brilliant Diamond though. For whatever reason I think Eevee was unavailable until post-game? Or am I stupid?
Empoleon
Luxray
Lucario
Gabite
Staraptor
Giritina
is my plat hall of fame
>Gabite
Huh?
Caught him in victory road and didn't evolve him by the time I beat e4 with that team
this is the team I beat the elite 4 with in Platinum some time ago
Because Sinnoh fricking sucks ass!
Nuh uh
Joke's on you OP, my team as a kid was the evolved abra from the oreburgh trade and 5 shitmons
Because it had the same problem johto had of not having half the fricking gen's dex available in the game.
My team. I had started training the Riolu from the egg before going to back to my original egg, Happiny
can you get the reaper cloth before the elite 4 in bdsp?
I had Legends Arceus so I transferred my Duskclops to it to evolve him then transferred him back. I'm not waiting to evolve him after basically beating the game
>wide variety
DP had fewer team options than fricking Gen 1.
Luxray, Staraptor, and Roserade ended up being better than I expected them to be so I didn't bother replacing them later on. I had Rapidash because it was the only Fire type I could find and Medicham because I didn't want to raise Lucario.
