>health bar >no checkpoints >high difficulty transfers your health into the next level >various objectives with occasional backtacking >stealth levels >auto-aim can be turned off >great music >great AI >great atmosphere >no cutscenes or gameplay interruptions of any kind

Are you the shill that spams jak2 threads every day defending that dog shit GTA clone? >stealth levels >good >great music >giacchino >good >great AI >(you) >great atmosphere >who the frick cares
It's crazy that I have to look at a comment like this and think "wow, a sane Gankertard that doesn't immediately think that somehow, lack of checkpoints immediately makes a game better???"
I don't get it. Some morons are genuinely so shallow that they think "opposite of everything currently, must be good!" feels like none of these morons have actually played a game without bias.
Max Payne 3, a game with checkpoints, is still infinitely harder, has more depth, and better shooting, and a health system than the garbage in OP. DESPITE both having checkpoints AND health that resets to zero after cutscenes and shit... because it's not an insecure game that needs to cheat to challenge you. YOU WILL get hit, and you WILL need to play optimally and conserve your health to progress as the game throws dozens of enemies at you, and forces you to manage your bullet time.
I could name more. But I think to TRULY hammer a point home.
Resident Evil 4. One of the most beloved and praised garbage shooters ever...not only has checkpoints, but also has resetting health in some instances if I'm not mistaken
RE4 is a 20 hour long corridor shooter. Most of which is literally the same linear experience and there is little value in forcing player to redo big chunks of the game because there is only more of the same awaiting ahead.
MOH has 15 minute long levels that are not completely linear with different locale, objectives, enemies and weapons. It would make a game terribly forgettable if you were to be forgiving and to let players breeze through. Plus, this conditions you into taking enemies on with more consideration and provides overall a more satisfying experience.
Some other games of the same era - lets say Syphon Filter are far more run and gun in approach and they have checkpoints. It works very well and is a welcome addition in that series because there it makes sense.
MOH would lose a lot of eerie vibe it has going on if you would randomly see "CHECKPOINT" across the screen knowing that you can die without any penalty onward.
play the games for yourself moron, I'm not mr eceleb who will teach you what you should like or not

Where did i divate from my question at any point? You said some nonsense and I called you out and demanded you explain it.
it's the first game where I saw an enemy fall on top of a grenade to protect his comrades. I only saw it happen once, I guess it's rare. blew my mind back then.
We took those things for granted... AND WE WERE RIGHT! What the frick happened to the industry? Why is it catered to people who dont even like video games now?
How the frick can anyone shill these shitty ps1-ps3 gen ww2 shooters? They were always really ass with boring gameplay. There was only one interesting one that involved squad tactics. The rest were repetitive shooting galleries with sponge damage enemies and that one mandatory tank level.
>There was only one interesting one that involved squad tactics.
brothers in arms? yeah that game rocked.
shit take though. all these games were fun in their time and some 7th gen ones are still fun today. sounds like you're just not a fan of the theme.
Played the PS1 duology a lot when I was a child.
Got stuck in one level for a long time because my TV's brightness was too low and I couldn't see a small passage on one wall in one of the city levels.
SF has garbage guns, they all feel like BB guns. But it does two things very well - variety of weapons and all of them being a single hit kill if you pull of a headshot. Helps a lot with the gameplay loop feeling smooth as you get more and more skilled. Going fast and being constantly on the move is what rewards the player. In that sense its a lot like Vanquish if you think about it.
Hollywoodslop with terrible AI, you can thank this piece of shit for killing the videogame industry.

You have a learning disability anon. Sorry to break it to you.

I don't remember it having aim assist

pic unrelated?
Is that Motherfricking MEDAL OF HONOR?!
They had to do more with less, which led to better games, unlike how games these days do less with more, leading to shitty games.
Played the PS1 duology a lot when I was a child.
Got stuck in one level for a long time because my TV's brightness was too low and I couldn't see a small passage on one wall in one of the city levels.
I don't think it does. There aren't many modern SP shooters. Many of them rightly put moh to shame.
PS1 MOHs have disgustingly bad gunplay & gun sounds, frick you troony
Close.

play Blood and you'll realize that it's been nearly 3 decades and it still blows almost everything that came after out the water
>tfw reviewers freaked out over this control scheme even though modern console shooters utilize the exact same
for some of us oldgays it was a tough transition. I didn't let go of the d-pad until I had to. I played frickin Frontline with the d-pad.
Its one of those great games from the golden age.
I like the part where if you throw a grenade enemies will sometimes get out of hiding to kick it towards you.
Thats the last shooter i ever played
>get to snow area
>some nazis sat around a campfire chatting after building a snowman
>quit game never play again
