Then video gamers and video game designers have to arrive at an informal pact to make games tackle less "serious" topics, since modern media aren't exclusively ancient Greek reliefs or Playboy centerfolds

No, plenty of characters weren't dressed that way. There were more than now because sex sells and they realized the majority of their audience was going to be men and male teens. What went wrong with that is complex, and there are definitely games with lots of sex appeal now, but it mostly can be summed up as chasing a larger audience and changing attitudes, to put it diplomatically.

      >What went wrong with that is complex
No, it's simple. 20 years ago the main demographics for video games was teens and young men; a very horny and sex starved demographic. Now it's middle-aged men. Middle-aged men have had lots of sex. They're probably married with kids. They don't really care that much about scantily clad video game girlies anymore. They just don't.

That's weird because games haven't become more mature in any sense.

Japan kept the male gaze shit for ages but that did nothing to stop their industry from collapsing while the west grew bigger than ever. Do you think they have "ethics departments" now because blackrock bucks or something? They're trying to get their games to sell and they noticed throwing in a bunch of scantily clad girls in there, far from helping, actually hinders sales now. You might lock up the incel market with that shit but that's a relatively small portion of the game market.

It's hilarious that you believe nudity or lack thereof would have a large impact on sales. And yes modern companies do care about ethics, have you been living in a cave?

It's hilarious that you think filling your game with a bunch of underage scantily clad anime characters is going to have no effect on sales. A very large portion of the market will never play it for that reason alone.

That's a whale industry. It's a relatively small number of people spending a large amount of money per person.

Oh, you poor incel. I'm afraid the science backs me on this one. The studies show people are more likely to notice you if you try to use sex to sell but not actually more likely to purchase. In fact, people typically have a negative reaction to it. They consider it condescending and offensive. Google the studies yourself. There's an absolute wealth fo them. Nothing supports "sex sells" because there was never a study to validate that in the first place. Advertising industry just made it up and never bothered to check if it was true.

Why would I bother? You're already positive you're right with absolutely no evidence to support your position. None. Zilch. It just MUST be true to you. It's practically religion for you. I'm not going to be able to reason you into the truth. You'll just dismiss anything I post and continue living in complete delusion.

You could google it yourself, you know. But you won't. Because you don't want to know what the truth is. You don't care unless it validates what you already think is true and you're afraid it won't.

Not that anon, but you neglected that other people here might be open to your argument if you had any good evidence. I'm searching online out of curiosity and I'm not seeing studies proving that sex doesn't sell in video games. I'm seeing claims and arguments that sex does sell. The success of multiple games that offer little more than sex and a little gameplay also really badly damages your argument. That people also want to have nude mods and sex mods for their games also shows a desire for sexual appeal in games, even if those are free.

I don't think you guys understand how this shit actually works. Blackrock is not just handing over free cash to anyone who follows their commie guidelines. It's about manipulating stock price. Stock price doesn't really matter to the operations of a company unless that company is wanting to raise capital by issuing new stock or being bought out. Last I checked Capcom is not issuing new stock or looking to be bought out.

I dont believe in any conspiracies, I believe that game developers are influenced by the cultural climate and the increasing number of soys, women & trannies who work in their companies. It's not that difficult to understand especially if you consider that white male game devs are typically weak pushover betas.

        >it's simple
Your theory is simple, the truth is likely more complex. The demographics for sex appeal can't simply be so against it, since there are popular mature games that offer attractive women and more explicit sex.

There may be less sex appeal in general, but what remains seems more explicit and like there are more porn games.

Porn became easier and easier to get leading to sex appeal not selling games as well as it used to also a lot of sex appeal focused games came out in the mid to late 2000's and most bombed probably helped convince marketing teams to go away from that trend.
