if "right" is that you do same moronic 15 second minigame for 10000 times then i don't even want to know what's the "wrong" way of doing fishing game.
just play something like sega bass fishing. it's 10 times better than any of that mmo fishing shit
not really into fishing, but sure you can simplify everything down to "irl minigame" but there are multiple ways to fish. some more passive and some more active. also changing to different locations can make it very different experience. like rivers, lakes, ocean. not to mention if you go to different countries/continents to fish.
>click button to cast off >wait for bobber to move >click bobber or button to reel in
what the FRICK kind of MMOs have you been playing because the ones i've played are all this dogshit
legit question for the fishermen out here - isn't fishing in real life basically "do the same minigame 10000 times"?
any fishing game is automatically better than real life fishing becaues you aren't sitting in a flea-infested shithole with the sun on you for 5 hours all for the grand prize of jack and frick
fishing games are fun because you actually get fish (and usually some kind of fantasy fish, or at least to make something more interesting with it)

XIV is literally what i'm describing.
you cast the line, then it's just a roll of the dice for which fish is about to bite, and another roll if the fish will actually get caught or will frick off. there's no skill involved, it's all RNG
Valheim's is okay
There's fish-specific bait and you get to sail around looking for biomes to fish in, and fishing itself is exactly as pointless as it is irl (though it is relaxing)
Considering they couldn't finish the story them adding a frickton more fishing content certainly would've been the better option. Frick it, just rename the entire project a Final Fantasy fishing spinoff, and expand the ocean and boating area for some deep sea fishing.
Tears of the Kingdom should have given you a fishing rod. It already has every other element. >catchable bugs or monster bits for bait >various kinds of fish >bodies of water all over and under the land >various environments, time of day and weather for specific catches
Honestly could have been a very comfy fishing game.
in other games you usually get points for competition or need to certain amount of fish to complete level for example. so there's "value".
unless you're talking about irl, then you can eat the fish or i guess you can also sell it/gift it to someone if you don't like to eat fish
>Fishing in wow is boring as frick and hasn't changed at all
The only fun part about it is fishing in cool locations. Why has wow's fishing minigame never been updated?

Sport fishing involves a lot more action, and fishing as a whole involves a lot less success, it's more akin to Morrowind's combat
That's how fishing in real life is

You could try fly fishing. No need to sit, walk in the rapids and pretend your indiana jones with whip or something

I'm not sure about the rest on that image but FFXIV and Mortal Online actually do fishing good

the roll to see if it's caught or not is just for rare fish
anything else has a 99% catch rate
OSRS sucks and every other MMO on that list is guilty of what people say RS3 is guilty of
The only fishing game I remember playing and liking was black bass for NES.

Unironically the best fishing game ever is Final Fantasy XV. That's all the game is good for, but it does it damn frickin well.
Would've been cool if SE added DLC set around more fishing and new places to go and fish
Stardew Valley and Terraria fishing is pretty comfy

Integral Factor legit has the most comfy fishing despite being a gacha mobile game based of a mediocre anime
you know you're watching your npc fish? next MMO invention: Watching paint dry
You know when you play a game you're just watching your NPC do animations while you press a button? Wow that's crazy
Neptunia Re:Verse has fishing

Because fishing is pointless when the fish you catch has no value. In MMOs they are often consumables that can be sold to other players.
In FFXIV a lot of fish can be put in fish tanks and the rare ones go up for millions of gil on the market board, so that has value.
in other games you usually get points for competition or need to certain amount of fish to complete level for example. so there's "value".

I recall the fishing minigame in Okami was pretty good
Lineage 2 has comfy fishing
