Because Wizardry isn't hard, it's bullshit.
You can do everything correctly and still lose.
That is life
I don't play vidya to experience 'life'
Generally in life you can mitigate against most disasters. I'll suggest that the "bullshit" you see in your own life is self-inflicted.
These. It's a turn based game. The "difficulty" is learning the optimal party set up. After that, it's just praying the dice rolls go in your favor.
Wizardry was one of the first cases of what modern people would call "dark souls syndrome" where everyone kept farting over how the game was so hard so SirTech whiffed it up and made the sequels even more brutal. Culminating in 4 which was so stupid everyone starting moving over to different games. They eventually, as mentioned above, dialed it back for 6.
because market research has proven that zoomers give up after 3 attempts.
All he described are RNG based special attacks. You can just stumble through this fight with a bit of luck. Without it even a perfect party will just get killed by the ninjas before you can do anything.
>bad RNG = hard
What is the best way to play wizardry 1?
There is a difference between hard and unfair, shmups for example are just hard unless they have some RNG going on (very rare), games with lots of dice rolls like RPGs tend to be unfair rather than difficult
Pic related, i think both this and the PS1 version have the option to turn on english text
Man, playing through this entire game blind was something else. The permadeath and bullshit enemies make it very brutal but that's what makes it good, going into unexplored territory is always mindfrickingly tense. Real danger and death with actual consequences you can rescue dead characters's corpses for reviving them but shit's still extremely risky, resurrection is not even guaranteed gives you an adrenalin spike that makes things feel real. I've never played anything like it. although i haven't tried other titles in the genre for fear of them being too casualized and not the same thing
NES version with a bug-fixing patch. PS1 is good too but i'd go with the NES if possible for the OST alone. Simply soul.
just cast 3 titlowaits and the encounter is over
wizardry isn't hard, its bullshit and often bad
the franchise as a whole didn't become worth playing until 6, when most of the israeli influence was plucked out
>just cast 3 titlowaits and the encounter is over
>mage gets decapitated before the battle starts
What now, oh great adventurer?
>>mage gets decapitated before the battle starts
ninjas cannot hit past the front line moron
a trap teleported my team into a wall
So I grinded murphy's ghost, went directly to the final floor, killed werdna, and never touched any of the sequels.
try beating underrail on dominating
try beating age of decadence without a guide
>max charisma
>click through dialogue prompts quicksaving between attempts
>game over in 20 minutes
I find it hilarious that more successful dungeon crawlers are just wizardry without the FRICKING NORMIES REEEEEEEEEE aspect of them.
I couldn't get into wizardry because I just don't like eclectic shit like samurai and dragons and lazer pistols and hauberks all in one game. Just decide on the fricking setting.
what other dungeon crawlers am i missing

Completely underrated party formation and synergy kino
You have SMT3 but not SMT4/4A
4A is genuinely peak SMT and by extension peak monster-collection gameplay.
Yeah the story is moronic and a single bad turn against some of the bosses means a fullwipe, but it's the best of the entire genre
4 is on Steam?
3DS only. You can emulate though
No but you can emulate it and the sequel, Citra had an issue with sprites not being correctly displayed during battle but i think that might have been fixed
All the good EO games IV/V/EOU2
journalists wouldn't be able to review them
a bunch of versions of early Wizardry had a bug where the game simply ignored your armour stat
You don't really want that kind of "difficulty" in any game. But that said, all games became easier and it also includes turn-based rpgs.
