I used to play Genshin f2p except for buying the welkin or whatever it is like 2 times. And that was my issue with the game, in the overworld everything was so easily it died just by looking at it and there was no challange OR you could do abyss which forced you to go full meta sheep because of the shitty timer bullshit.
And the meta was always nearly the same, use Benette and another buffer and just use your ulti/skill>swap to next character and do the same until everyhting dies.

This might blow your mind, but Genshin is a company that wants your money. The game isn't really about combat. It's about exploiting people with the use of FOMO. Story quests are a way to advertise banner characters. Spiral abyss is an ad for the banner characters. It's all about the 'wow, I really wish I had this character right now! They seem really cool and powerful!' It's a trick to make you think you 'need them'. The game has never been about combat.

And you missed the point. You don't need banner characters because Genshin turns into a minigame collection. Character's are the selling point and yet you never really use them. Miyoho tricks people with FOMO when there is no content. Do you not get it?

It's true you kill enemies, but you don't really engage in a "combat" with them unless it's abyss or an event. Most of the time, you just do a couple of basic attacks and use your Q and that's it.
The game could have deep combat, but every time besides events and abyss the combat is such a one-sided fight that it becomes a snoozefest.
