it has some improvements but also some downgrades (the sound effects, voice acting, character redesigns, some enemy redesigns, DEI pandering). It lacks a lot of the soul of the original, where they really tried their hardest. But the graphics and combat are better and the backtracking is nice
Wasn't it fixed the first days the game was made available? I remember the webm being spammed of the necros sliding on the floor and then hearing about it being patched.
yeah I think every single propaganda poster I saw had at least one black person. Usually black and white, sometimes black and Asian. Dunno why black people in particular are so sacred to these people
Kendra and Nicole are supposed to be specialists in their fields. Nicole especially is stated to be the Senior Medical Officer onboard the Ishimura, which is much more believable now that she doesn't look like she's in her mid-20s.
This is a company who left Isaac Clarke in their system, allowing him to access shit like maintenance hatches on a space station he wasn't stationed at when he was supposed to have been dead for years. Any company on Earth that ain't a small mom and pop deal will nix your credentials before they even fire you. These c**ts are more than likely to cheap out on their medical officers.
Kendra looks like she's in her late 20's. Nicole looks like she's in her late 30 or early 40. Nicole is married woman anyway, why does she have to be young?
The poster itself is propaganda for a shitty oppressive company that frick over its own workers for profit. Having "diversity" on the poster kinda drives that souless brutal corpo vibe more rather than supporting diversity within the context of the game
Everything was better except the main thing, the physics and combat
They feel completely weightless in the remake compared to the original, ruins the whole fricking game. Went back and played 2 and it was like night and day
Did it really? I have to get into the franchise and i don't know which one to play, i've heard the original has a voiceless protag which kills the immersion, but the new one has the protagonist be super ugly and, yuck, a redhead, instead of a hot daddy with grey hair.
Original 360 versions of a series are the best way to play them. You'll have to do a few fixes for PC version if you go that route, mouse is fricked and you have to remove all the DLC shit from the in-universe store where Isaac buys all his stuff.
Nicole's appearance in the original game would have been more plausible if she was just a random doctor on board, not the fricking chief medical officer or some shit.
It's not better but it looks like it's the least harmful "remake" ever made. The new branching levels to make it more open can't hurt but the lighting is a little off and the performance and faces of the npcs are really inferior to the original. It seems ok, don't know can't play it, it's new gen only and no way I'm buying a gaystation 5.
Posts like this really prove zoomers just want these remakes to be a "part of the conversation" regarding classic games, while attempting to erase the original and ensure they don't have to play *gasp* old games.
It’s a remake made over a decade later with better technology and 20/20 hindsight. Isn’t it fundamentally supposed to be? That’s like the basic bar for entry of any remake, not something to be impressed by. You make the same game and fix the things that you now didn’t work.
moron. Not only the people who made the "remake" never worked on the original game, they also fricked up in various ways, like making the animations shittier and buggy and replacing the well-done necromorph models with their shitty "BRUH SPACE ZOMBIES" models.
>makes simple, accurate point about how much credit remakes in general should get
moron. Not only the people who made the "remake" never worked on the original game, they also fricked up in various ways, like making the animations shittier and buggy and replacing the well-done necromorph models with their shitty "BRUH SPACE ZOMBIES" models.
>anon chimps out over MUH CLASSIC DEAD SPACE IS SUPERIOR HURR DURR!!!
It should get none because it's just EA trying to cash in on an franchise they murdered and telling some random pajeets to give the game a new coat of paint since they killed the original studio too. And they manage to make worse animations, designs & atmosphere while still getting dicksucked because "OMG DEAD SPACE IS TOTALLY BACK GUYSE!!!!"
he doesn't job to it, he simply sees it as Chen, he's brainfricked, Isaac has the same problem, when the Marker fricks with you, it destroys any sort of logic about the situation, Isaac knows Nicole is dead and cannot possibly be seeing her, but when the Marker puts her in front of him, it also fricks with his ability to understand reality.
>"spiritual successor" game from "original dev members" is a complete shit show >the remake by FRICKING EA is actually good
It was a strange time. The absolute blow back from callisto protocol led to a lot of shit post on the remake.
its like a moronic clone of a clone of Dead Space, without any of the spooky "aliens fired a Apocalypse Rock at earth millions of years ago and no one knows why" or anything.
>be enhanced and mutated beyond human's physically limited >lose In melee combat to some human bum who dodge all of their attacks like fricking Neo in the matrix
Atmosphere & sound downgrade was enough for me to shelf it. Not even a moronic Ganker contrarian, either. Vibe is just way off and the game stinks of diversity hires, stg. The original is better in every way except graphics.
The Hammond VA in Dead Space fricking killed it with his performance of a dude trying to keep it together while everything is going to shit, Kendra keeps doomposting and freaking out on him and he's got to direct Isaac all over the ship as things keep falling apart. Hammond doesn't do shit in redead space. He's completely fricking neutered. Isaac does everything for himself and Kendra isn't trying to throw a wrench in their mission for her own purposes.
They kinda had to give all his "we gotta fix this, this and this" lines to Issac since he's the engineer.
But honestly they could've kept a few of them as Hammond's ideas with Issac going "oh yeah, that could work"
Hammond is a security officer. Isaac is a well-educated and experienced systems engineer. The dynamic in the remake is way better realized since it gives Isaac some actual direction and contribution to the plot.
Isaac never lacked that. Your boss telling you what went wrong or you telling him that and then him sending you to fix it doesn't mean you're not contributing anything. Are there no leaders in rescue missions in the future? Who the frick are the two goons you bring with you if Hammond is the security officer?

Isaac was literally mute in the original and everything was driven by other characters, are you OK?
Anonymous
Yeah, the leader tells the engineer to fix stuff, it's perfectly fricking reasonable. Why the frick does Isaac need to say "I'm gonna go fix the gravity tethers," when all three people still alive know the gravity tethers are fricked up? The Ishimura falling apart and the repairs Isaac needs to make are what drives the game, not Isaac announcing he's going to go fix something.

Why would a random team leader with a security background know what to fix? It makes way more sense for the professional starship engineer to be the one to look over the situation and determine what needs fixing.

Hammond is in charge of the mission. He knows the major systems of the ship and when things go wrong he knows where to send Isaac. This is good writing and good characterization. Sending a security guy when you already have two goons with you on the mission is bad writing and characterization. Having a single common engineer on a mission where you've lost contact with a giant ship and expecting him to make all of his own decision is moronic and bad writing and characterization. If there's a boat that goes missing on an ocean on Earth and for some reason only one ship is sent to them, that one ship is going to have a leader in place, not just team heads of different disciplines. Isaac fixes shit, Hammond tells him where to go to fix stuff, it's all this story needs to make sense and it allowed Hammond to be a real character trying to maintain control in a situation that gets increasingly frickeder. He's got shit to work with in the remake and comes off as completely ineffectual rather than as a good leader.

Yeah. And part of being in charge of the mission is bringing people who can do their job. Trying to decide what to fix yourself when you have literally zero idea how the ship works and what needs priority when you have a skilled engineer at hand is moronic.

Hammond knows exactly what to do in Dead Space you dumb butthole. He's not fumbling around sending Isaac to repair irrelevant systems. He's competent and that's exactly why his characterization is ruined in the new one.

>Hammond is in charge of the mission. He knows the major systems of the ship and when things go wrong he knows where to send Isaac
He's a security engineer. He knows the surface level stuff, but Isaac is the one to suggest rerouting power, how to get systems active again, or emergency maintenance. Because he's the engineer.
>Sending a security guy when you already have two goons with you on the mission is bad writing and characterization
It was an emergency maintenance team. They brought along Hammond and two corporals (which you seem to forget) to try and identify the issues and take control of any volatile situation.
>If there's a boat that goes missing on an ocean on Earth and for some reason only one ship is sent to them, that one ship is going to have a leader in place, not just team heads of different disciplines.
Are you genuinely moronic? That ship is going to have experts in multiple different areas, including medical. Every rescue task force will have multiple experts in different fields. https://www.fema.gov/emergency-managers/national-preparedness/frameworks/urban-search-rescue
Like how are you so confidently moronic in not knowing how emergency teams work? If anything the unrealistic part is that the team is too small and doesn't have enough specialized crew members.

>He's a security engineer. He knows the surface level stuff, but Isaac is the one to suggest rerouting power, how to get systems active again, or emergency maintenance. Because he's the engineer.
Hammond is the leader of the mission you moron. If you've never played Dead Space, why are you arguing his characterization wasn't worse in the remake?

Yes, he's the leader and chief security officer. Part of being a leader is bringing expertise with you on your mission and trusting their judgment because you don't know all of the parameters. That's why emergency response teams bring multiple experts that can act independently in response to a crisis. Because you don't want the entire mission to be jeopardized if communication is down or if something happens to leadership.

Hammond did bring an engineer to fix shit. His name is Isaac, perhaps you've heard of him?

Actually, Isaac had hidden character development in the form on the journal/objective log. He provides his own little commentary there but nobody ever bothers to read that
5 months ago
Anonymous
Mostly because those change per objective and unless you're playing either on a monitor or real close to the screen, that text can be extremely hard to see.
the story changes are all way better, Nicole killing herself now has way more meaning to Isaac with the heavier highlighting of Isaac's parent's being a murder suicide and Isaac being simply completely fricking delusional before he ever gets to the Ishimura now.
Kenda now is motivated not by a mission, but by the desire to YEET the Marker into the Sun so no one can ever turn it on again, and she RIGHTLY realizes that Isaac and that other lady are completely fricking compromised and can't be trusted.
Mercer is now a proper true believer instead of someone worshiping the Hive Mind, now he knows exactly what Convergence is and is trying to achieve it.
all in all its an excellent remake, which is soured by the fact we likely will never get Dead Space 2, and even less likely to ever get a real alternate Dead Space 3 that isn't a complete shitshow.
>the story changes are all way better
They have worse VA so they don't hit as hard. Hammond's death was better. Kyne and Mercer are huge downgrades. Only Kendra is arguably better in her final delivery before she steals the marker.
>Mercer is way fricking better VA this time around.
No way. In the original, he was batshit insane and you could feel it in his voice. He literally releases an infector and opens his arms to be converted to a necromorph. In the remake he is a smug doctor who is shocked when the necromorph tentacle crushes him.
because he's a very smart Unitologist first and foremost, he's smug because he thinks he's won and convergence is almost upon him.
there's no reason for him to be batshit insane, the driving villainy of the Unitologist in the setting is not that they are insane, its that they are technically correct, and cannot be reasoned out of their position.
he's a far more realistic and compelling villain now, because to him, and all of them, they are VALIDATED in their beliefs, because Convergence to them, is good, and now they know it is real..
in the OG he's just gone completely nutters because of the Marker, in this one, the Marker has had likely very little effect on him.
He is insane in the remake too but instead of being menacing and with a demise worthy of the horror genre, he is just talking nonsense and boasting about something that doesn't even matter. He is a boring "villain" in the remake, his presence for me was always "not this monologuing disney villain again" instead of "holy frick what is he doing?"
Only two people (VAs) are worth anything in the remake, and that's Gunner/Isaac and Kendra. Everyone else was dogshit and with worse writing too.
In some ways it's better (gameplay improvements in zero-g, improving asteroid sections, fun weapon upgrades). In other ways it's worse (I think the added story elements are unnecessary, and the voice acting for most of the characters is rubbish. The upgraded access keys are really fricking annoying as well with how they implemented it.). Overall I liked it though.
Kendra's motivation is way better now, before its baffling how she still wants to stick to Earth Gov's plan of scooping up marker 3A and doing experiments on it, she seems so cold and unfeeling in the OG, NO one could see all that shit and not get shaken.
which she does now, and realizes that Earth Gov's plan is moronic, and even leaving the Marker on the planet is moronic, as Earth Gov knows exactly where it is.
They destroyed the characterization of every single character, animations are trash, the fricking point of the one-camera shot trick they did is that Isaac is always moving forward through the story, not backtracking so he can upgrade a weapon and the way they treated the OG dev's images on the posters shows a total lack of respect for the people who made the original thing these homosexuals got years of paychecks remaking.
This, also i'm pissed they never added a horde mode to any of these games, sometimes i just want to shoot shit instead of just exploring since the combat is that good
>good >better gameplay >weapons are more fun >exploring the map is more fun
>bad >andromeda tier animations >every characters is worse than the original especially hammond and kyne >awful pc performance that will quite literally never be fixed and will stay as is forever >worse voice acting in general especially nicole >map is mostly pitch dark so you couldn't look at the pretty graphics even if you wanted to >butchered the Lv.1 suit >worse enemy sounds than the original >isaacs face
People are still coping and trying to argue that the original was better. The remake is far superior, my only complaints are
1. Charles Mercer changes, now he shoots you with 2 minute stasis and monologues on you instead of being behind glass and his death was changed
2. Adding Elizabeth Cross as a character (it kinda makes sense that "Nicole" is really Cross but I prefer the original where it's just Isaac doing stuff and imaging Nicole is helping him)
A majority of remakes are better than the original.
Too many homies are look at old games with rose tinted glasses because of MUH NOSTALGIA, but they all had level of jank that your child / teen self wouldn't really care about which are fixed with modern technology - not to mention the massive visual upgrde.
loved everything about the game except that you had to blow off every limb of the monsters, even back then it was so obviously just a mechanic that got so repetitive and boring i couldnt bring myself to finish it. >please tell me the remake changed this
>Force original studio to make series a dumb action game cuz everything needs to sell 5+ million units from day one >DS2 sells better than the first one but EA wants even more money >Force them to add even more action and microtransactions in a SP 60$ game >DS3 flops, studio gets shutdown shortly after >Capcom releases RE7 and RE2 remake which print money >EA notices there is money to be made by remaking a game that has barely aged
No amount of shills is going to change how shitty the reasons behind this remake are, glad it didn't do that well and barely anyone still talks about it.

the BNWO bigger bmwf posters in every room are way worse

According to who? Ecelebs? Journos? Normalgays?
it has some improvements but also some downgrades (the sound effects, voice acting, character redesigns, some enemy redesigns, DEI pandering). It lacks a lot of the soul of the original, where they really tried their hardest. But the graphics and combat are better and the backtracking is nice
also the animations are worse. Like the legless slashers just slide across the floor instead of coming at you like nasty spider things
Wasn't it fixed the first days the game was made available? I remember the webm being spammed of the necros sliding on the floor and then hearing about it being patched.
They never did. They’re still seething about it to this day
Yeah, must be painful to find yourself on a website thats not a toxic positivity echochamber and eceleb/journo worship zone.
It was alright. Some parts of the Marker insanity were very creepy, and the hallucinations have always been my favorite part of this series.

Kendra and Nicole are supposed to be specialists in their fields. Nicole especially is stated to be the Senior Medical Officer onboard the Ishimura, which is much more believable now that she doesn't look like she's in her mid-20s.
That's completely irrelevant. The heroine of a story should be beautiful, that is common sense.
This is entertainment, not a fricking documentary.

They were based all along and we were just too stupid to see it.

I really enjoyed everything in the remake except for how fricking old Nicole looked. She legitimately looked like she was someones grandmother
They based both Issac and Niccole on the voice actors.
It's more accurate to the later games. Her model and design in the original game was off considering she was meant to be like 40 years old.
Nicole's appearance in the original game would have been more plausible if she was just a random doctor on board, not the fricking chief medical officer or some shit.

of course he's gloating, Rapture is right around the corner and he holds all the cards.

he's a far more realistic and compelling villain now, because to him, and all of them, they are VALIDATED in their beliefs, because Convergence to them, is good, and now they know it is real..
in the OG he's just gone completely nutters because of the Marker, in this one, the Marker has had likely very little effect on him.
No, in the remake they just made him into a gloating Marvel villain. That's it.
Everyone else was dogshit and with worse writing too.
>there's no reason for him to be batshit insane
Have you heard about what the marker does to everyone?
Kendra is better, Isaac is way more compelling this time, Mercer is arguably better, Hammond is a bit worse.
It really needed an extra difficulty mode, hard is just too easy if you're consistent with getting the optional upgrades from the LV2-3 doors.
This, also i'm pissed they never added a horde mode to any of these games, sometimes i just want to shoot shit instead of just exploring since the combat is that good
You love Black folk, op?
>good
>better gameplay
>weapons are more fun
>exploring the map is more fun
>bad
>andromeda tier animations
>every characters is worse than the original especially hammond and kyne
>awful pc performance that will quite literally never be fixed and will stay as is forever
>worse voice acting in general especially nicole
>map is mostly pitch dark so you couldn't look at the pretty graphics even if you wanted to
>butchered the Lv.1 suit
>worse enemy sounds than the original
>isaacs face
The performance is good tho, there's only very rare stutters when going from one deck to another with the tram or maintanence tunnels.
This is how I feel about it too. You forgot to mention how Isaac pulls down his helmet on two separate occasions for no reason.
>andromeda tier animations
You fricking out of your mind?
Oh and the asteroid defense bits are gay as frick and completely immersion-breaking, as opposed to the OGs which built the frick out of immersion.
You just can't argue that this remake has truckloads of soul.
Main thing that’s worse is the death animations. They’re tame and boring compared to the original.
Most are 1:1, like the Divider head replacement one.
Then explain why people who were adults in 2008 like the OG version better.
I really like how the remake touches more on the argument between Isaac and Nicole.
I don't like Nicole's downgrade though
loved everything about the game except that you had to blow off every limb of the monsters, even back then it was so obviously just a mechanic that got so repetitive and boring i couldnt bring myself to finish it.
>please tell me the remake changed this
Nah, same gameplay, still gets old by the end.
absolute tragedy
>remake
>better than the original
This has never happened.
Just compare the intros, it's clear that the remake is far less beautiful
>Force original studio to make series a dumb action game cuz everything needs to sell 5+ million units from day one
>DS2 sells better than the first one but EA wants even more money
>Force them to add even more action and microtransactions in a SP 60$ game
>DS3 flops, studio gets shutdown shortly after
>Capcom releases RE7 and RE2 remake which print money
>EA notices there is money to be made by remaking a game that has barely aged
No amount of shills is going to change how shitty the reasons behind this remake are, glad it didn't do that well and barely anyone still talks about it.
You forgot there was loads of microtransactions in DS3 due to the crafting/upgrade system.
