How did GamerGate impact traditional games?

I'm hoping for this topic to be approached somewhat objectively. I'm not looking for your average /misc/ vs Reddit/Tumblr dispute. I'm more hoping for people to have old screenshots and personal accounts of things that happened around the time of GamerGate to sort of document how it spilled over into traditional games, assuming it did that at all. Things like tabletop RPG authors commenting on it, noteworthy projects being delayed or taken down entirely, that sort of thing, are what I'm hoping to find out about.

Can we have a thread about this?

I was too young to really catch any of it as it happened but the retrospective seems to be that it was about corruption in journalism and/or women, of which traditional games have neither

I would gamble he’s in his 20s. Gamergate is almost 10 years old

It was the point where trolling became activism in the eyes of young rightoids. It didn't invent the idea, chanology came a lot sooner and it in turn has roots in the early internet, but gamergate was the point where that mentality really caught on. So young rightoids started throwing more and more belligerent tantrums on public websites, which lead to them getting banned, which was like a garbage fire because it caused other rightoids to feel oppressed which caused them to also throw tantrums and get banned. Then all the banned rightoids came here and ruined /tg/, the end.

      >rightoids
Fricking directionbrain mongoloid. It was just a cause and effect reaction started from a bunch of entitled fart sniffing journos fishing for drama that ended agitating an hive full of autistic wasp, there was a shitshow for a bit, as expectable, but the journos kept farming the shit out of it dragging the effects beyond the point of no return. Slacktivism trolling was just a consequence of that.

I recall an important aspect of it was that some dude whined about his abusive GF and people got really mad at video essayists.

from my end it looked like people wondering why the frick they suddenly weren't allowed to gawk and cluck over THIS minor internet celebrity sex scandal. not on reddit, not on fark, not even on Ganker. it was obvious some sort of coordinated censorship campaign was going on, and that this could only be possible if all these people were in cahoots with each other

I have reason to believe you have gamergate and the fappening confused with each other

It was kind of funny seeing how many people who formerly worked in game journalism coming out and explaining that it's pretty normal for journalists from different sites to have shared groups to coordinate releasing articles to not step over each other, and those same circles were being used to coordinate putting out articles saying the same thing.
I think it was one of TotalBiscuit's podcasts where this came up as a brief throwaway thing, despite the fact that such circles really should not exist for opinion based reporting at all, and it's questionable if it should exist for fact based reporting.

What do women or P&P RPGs have to do with a movement about bought video game review ratings?

What are you two implying about the nature of GamerGate here?

Well tough luck, because that's precisely what this whole thing was about
    >Can we have a thread about things that never happened, but I'm both too young and too clueless to know better?
    No

So you think there was no significant spillover?

        >think
I know there was no spillover, but we both know you will only be satisfied with someone comes here and tells how a game that nobody ever heard about was cancelled for being not woke enough or whatever other shit you're fishing out here.

I'm sad that Monte Cook took down his blog, but in hindsight I'm sure he feels like he made the right decision, which just makes it more sad. His ezboard was the most polite and helpful TTRPG community that I've ever seen.
