Don't go into comp if you have no hours. 300-500 hours should do it. Also play individual maps before going into premier.

cs is unironically not about shooting, and shooting itself as it's done in other FPS games - see enemy, react, shoot, track, move - is your least concern as it purposely doesn't even function properly in this game, and doing reactionary shooting means you basically already "lost" and will only lead to frustration.
What you are supposed to do is to learn crosshair placement for every position of every map you play. Also learn grenade angles for every map as well. It's better to just smoke, molly and flash the site right from safety, rather than trying to engage in a shootout rng fest, catching a random bullet and going back to spectating for 3 minutes.

Prove it.
If you sense that you're about to get kicked in the following rounds, just start griefing at that point and keep flashing the top fragger.
If you're nearing the end of the match, team kill the top fragger instead, then immediately disconnect. This prevents them from kicking you and are forced to wait for you to come back, but DO NOT come back because the match should end by next round or two if they lose and you still get XP.
It's what I do. All those who try to votekick me are always the mic screechers and their voices make me want to punch their faces in real life.
Realize that CT love to play like pussies, so they sit and wait.
Best option is to peek, then rush from another direction. Pick any smg you like and frick around, then learn 1 or 2 rifles on both sides.
Learn one or two pistols as well. P2000 is my favorite pistol, it rewards accuracy like the deagle.

I'm a complete noob to these games. Can I hang with other players if I use shotguns or am I basically just handicapping myself by using them?

It was pretty hard to do with all the cheaters, but I like to throw a random grenade to frick with people, then strafe around a corner. Makes it easier to catch someone off guard if they aren't using the crutch AWP weapon.
You could also use flashbangs if you feel like being a dick.
Grenades are super useful for peaking, or just fricking with people, which is half the point of the game. Fricking with camping homosexuals.

I suspected as much but just haven't seen many other people using them in what few games I've played so far. Very fun game.
There are no "bad" guns. Players tend to stick to the expected loadouts (M4 / AK / AUG / etc) but all of them have uses and can get the job done.
Shotguns have always been good and you get to "run and gun" a bit more with them than most rifles. All SMGs are fantastic, and don't overlook the less expensive rifles either - the FAMAS and Galil are incredible.
Play deathmatch more if you want to learn to appreciate guns that are "outside of the meta".
So far the FAMAS is actually my favorite rifle, chosen entirely on the basis of me recognizing it from Metal Gear Solid.
The FAMAS has a tight spread that is easy to control for up close, and the three-shot burst is STUPIDLY accurate. Seriously - at range it is a beast if you can aim at all. The only downsides are the small mag size and high rate of fire means you will be reloading a lot / switching to pistol a lot.

The rifle can kill multiple enemies up close like shotgun can, but the shotgun can't kill a terrorist in Inferno Coffin from Banana.

That one is so funny to me. The preconceptions about them were so entrenched as noob guns that no one even bothered attempting to use them.
As far as I know they got nerfed but are still seen in pro comps today.
shotguns are usable in certain maps at certain spots because you can play to get a short range kill then take the enemy's actually good weapon. honestly any time a shitter buys a deag they should probably be buying a nova instead.

valve already redesigned the agents to be more visible. BTW at the time of that screenshot the paid agent had a larger head hitbox, making him easier to kill.
what's that supposed to mean? Do all agent skins now have the same color scheme? Was the green CT skin turned dark blue like SAS? And that T skin - is the head black now? No?
