Interesting characterization and aesthetics. Unique unlockable costumes. 5th and 6th weapons that had to be earned on Hard and Expert difficulty respectively. Hidden objectives. Castle stages. It just had sovl.
Hidden objectives and castle stages are still a thing as far as SW4.

It's a little confusing but basically SW4DX is SW4 with more stuff. To not be confused with 4-II, a standalone release that only contains additional stories but not SW4's base game.
Empires is not related to these at all.
>What is the best Warrior game of them all?
DW8 Empires. Had everything you need. I just really wish they made a DW game merged with Kessen where you could zoom out to control armies but also zoom in and fight Warriors style too, with all the Empire building of Empires/ROTK added but it would be a monumental task.
I just started DW8E as Lu Bu and it was boring af. I have no idea what I should be doing, no goal, no objective. And why the frick would I want to start as some brainlet soldier when I could very well be ruler?
Empires games end with one faction conquering the whole continent or running out of an usually extremely generous time limit.
I'm playing DW3 and holy shit this game is actually though, the grunts are agressive and the bosses are raping me
Welcome to old DW, back when it wasn't marketed as 1v1000 shit and it plays more like a 3D beat 'em up. It keeps up at least until DW5, but DW3 is the hardest.
Eh, Berserk is fine. It's surprisingly unsuited to Musou formula despite what you'd think "oh, Guts just kills hundreds of demons". Crippling flaw it suffers from is a tiny character roster. It might be up there with the first Ken's Rage, minus that game's DLC characters.
Maps and Gameplay is better in Hyrule.
also, for me,Hyrule was a celebration and culmination of Zelda while Calamity was just phoned in BotW sequel bait.
I honestly never even played her in either game. She feels like such filler when so many other characters deserve to be playable way more. Especially in 4, when other way more noteworthy characters got cut, but not her for some reason.
Oh I thought you put her down there because she plays bad. But yeah she was great in 3, plays like Mitsunari from Basara. Cute too.

Anonymous
Would've put her in the 'bad character, not fun to play' category in that case.
To be fair, Tashigi is a noteworthy member of the Marines, even though that's likely because of her association with Smoker.
It's too bad 4 cut Punk Hazard, that was probably her most significant appearance.
I mean if they wanted Marines, Garp was literally already there in 3, and got cut, until them finally putting him back in as Prime Garp in the frickin' 6th DLC pack. 4 is weird man.

>4 is weird man
No doubt about that
Maybe a fifth game (or another DLC pack, whatever) will focus on adding more characters, legacy and otherwise, instead of reworking the combat.

don't let your experience to be defined by bunch of circlejerking jackasses
eh, it depends.
first HW has tons of shit to do, but maybe to point of too much shit to do.
People have their tastes and your tastes are also different
I played HW on release for Wii U had tons of fun
I also played Age of Calamity and also had tons of fun.
It's all relative
I personally do not like AoC more than the original HW. A part of these games for me is embracing the grind, and AoC does not feel fun to do that in. I am also over the BotW aesthetic. The biggest thing holding it back is the shit performance, I am so sick of the Switch.
I've started playing it again on an emulator and I think I enjoy it more.
The Adventure Mode stuff in HW turned me off because I didn't like that kind of grind.
I loved FE Warriors on the basis that it wad a musou spin off that let me tell AI units which areas to go to, can't do that shit in Pirate Warriors, can't do that shit in Fate/Extella, and you couldn't do it in Hyrule Warriors so it was nice.
FE Warriors was hated for it's Shadow Dragon and Awakening shilling which people were already sick of. Age of Calamity was hated because it baited people into thinking it was a prequel but actually it was time travel fixfic shit that leads to an alt timeline where every9ne lives happily ever after. Imagine FF7Remake but with Zelda.
>Age of Calamity was hated because it baited people into thinking it was a prequel but actually it was time travel fixfic shit that leads to an alt timeline where every9ne lives happily ever afte
it was fun tho
haters gonna hate
It's pretty obvious. They get the initial check from the license holder, plus they usually sell more. I remember reading that Age of Calamity was the best selling musou ever?
After the DW9 disaster, I can't blame them for just relying on licensed ones for a while.
>mfw I'm starving for a good Bleach game
I wish they'd make a Bleach musou. I've been wishing for that for more than a decade. With the revival of the anime it would sell like hotcakes but I feel like the owners of Bleach don't actually want there to be a good game so it doesn't distract away from their shitty mobile gachas.

Soul Ignition on the ps3 was also a musou wannabe but it was pretty bad as well. As much as Koei has been shitting the bed lately, nobody else seems capable of replicating Koei's formula at it's peak.
Remember when they made DW9 open-world and it failed. Then they made DW9 Empires which would have literally been perfect with the open world etc and then they didn't even use it? Every level was just a castle map. Kek what were they thinking.
The open world would have been great if there was things you can do, like camping, fishing, helping rando villagers, farming, or eating food. I really enjoyed dragging my waifu or sworn siblings across china just to sightsee.

DW9E should have been a return to Destiny mode where you start off a peon with a weakass moveset set in an open world. And people aren't probably going to like this, but they should have added crafting and building to it and that would have made the world less boring and empty.
You're just trying to survive in ancient China, hunting animals for food, making straw huts to live in. Maybe you come across a village for supplies and they get attacked by bandits and another hero joins the fight and you become buddies. Things progress and you and your friend join the army and go from there.

The romanization scheme for Chinese is GARBAGE
I really don't understand how we still use this trash, especially when the Japanese romanization schemes show that it's not that fricking hard
SO WHY DO WE USE IT
That's the part that baffles me. It's like academia has completely given up on it because so few people study Chinese related topics anyway. We could roll out a phonetic romanization scheme that works TOMORROW but instead everyone will keep using the shitty one.
>It's like academia has completely given up on it because so few people study Chinese related topics anyway.
It's this. No one outside academics who already know pinyin would care. > We could roll out a phonetic romanization scheme that works TOMORROW but instead everyone will keep using the shitty one.
Yale romanization already exists and no one uses it because no one cares.
Consonant pronunciation for Chinese names in stuff like English-dubbed games has generally improved greatly over these last two decades.
However, "vowel" (I don't know if it's the right word) pronunciation is all over the place.
I know that I prefer Big Dong Zhuo over saying it correctly.
Oh are we cool with playing female characters now? I thought Ganker told me playing as girl is for homosexual when I said I want femc in persona 3 remake.
Ultimately the entire PS2 era of DW games were amazing, five included. I just forgot about that one as I had too much fun in 4 running around as fat samoan with fists and his hot ass wife with a boomerang.
I miss the days when foot soldiers and, Allah forgive me, archers were actually dangerous. When it become commonplace to break 1000KOs in every mission was when games turned into a joke.
If you adjust for PS2 crowd counts the equivalent of a thousand KOs on ps2 was what 500? which was trivial to get, the strength of peons is so really overstated in discussions about this series.
More like 300, a rather common number to reach halfway through a stage.
Saying this while playing SW4DX right now, it's really that trivial to reach 1000 unless you go out of your way to skip foot soldiers and rush to officers instead.

Pirate Warriors 4 eventually went that way too with the dlc and added skills that work based on your combo counter. I think PW4 also has the map that allows for the most kills ever in a Musou game without some sort of exploit. You can get over 30k KOs on one of the DLC maps. Without endless time or anything like that.

Man, PW4 receiving so much late DLC just screams "we wanted to make PW5, but people in charge said no". Same with Attack on Titan 2 Final Battle DLC.

Seriously. Like, back when Gear 4 was the newest, hottest thing, Burning Blood was pretty quick to show off that it was the first game to have it. I remember World Seeker also getting DLC that was just a single finisher move using Snakeman rather than a full transformation. Then PW4 let you use both.
And when compared the both Gear 4s, Gear 5 feels pretty underwhelming. It definitely needs to be built from the base of the game up rather than slapping it on like what, 2 years after the game's release?
Anonymous
Gear 5 is super busted now, maybe even stronger than Roger, but since it is limited to the old form change mechanic the optimal way to play is to simply endlessly spam lightning or the Film Red move since the 3rd special is pointless and can't be swapped out. It's basically half a character since the regular Luffy is just there to transform into it and it never runs out with the right build. The last DLC randomly gave Gear 5 the ability to ignore logia armor completely. The regular combos are super annoying though. Reminds me a lot of Fujitora in PW3 who was a pretty meh character in terms of moveset but randomly had the most busted unique move in the whole game to the point that you could ignore everything else about him.

>the strength of peons is so really overstated in discussions about this series.
Comparatively? Absolutely not. Peons and usually even officers basically became completely braindead from 6 onward.

I guess officers are still scary on higher difficulties because they can one shot you if you get hit by their musou attack. But otherwise yeah, you won't need to single them out to not get combo'd by multiple officers.

Every time someone gives a point where peons/officers supposedly went dumb it's a different game, peons lost their combos yes but this is due to the scale increase plus did they really become dumber? they move around the same as they always have. Mate. Stay still and see how long it takes peons to kill you in modern and older DW games.

It wasn't. Getting sniped by archers from beyond the fog of war doesn't mean the game was difficult. The games being braindead easy has been the hit against Musou game for as long as they've been around.

And a future regime is going to tear him down all over again and go all traditionalist. You think this is the first time "redemptions" have happened? Right back at you. Granted, PS2 musous aren't what I would call the hardest videogames ever but to claim there is no challenge makes me doubt you ever tried the highest difficulty in PS2 games.
>Hard mode Battle Of Yi Ling.
And the worst part is they don't put their weapons away to use Swords. No. They spread out AND RUN FROM YOU. So charging them only ends up with you being surrounded.
I've been getting into DW proper lately. Even made a thread about my time with DW2. Been thinking about making one for DW3 when I feel like I've played a good amount of it, but not sure if that's getting too much into blog territory.
In any case, DW3 has been fantastic. Makes me glad I played 2 just to see how big the improvement really is. First run was with Zhang He because of course I had to go with the flamboyant guy with huge claws.
Also yes I've loved the shitty voice acting in these two games. It's going to be sad whenever I get to the point of the voice acting just probably being more standard and boring.
Luckily for you, the voice acting goes from "so bad it's good" to ranging from passable to pretty good. DW7 is the peak of the series in terms of story presentation, while DW8 is the peak in terms of gameplay. 4/5 are commonly cited as being excellent entries too, and I personally lean more towards 5 being better.
I like Empires because fighting for base control and alternating between offense and defense makes much more sense than enemies or allies standing still until somebody approaches them.
Long time ago I remember reading a very in-depth guide on gamefaqs about what happens outside of the player view in DW3 and 4, it explained various things like how battles are simulated, how the game handles scenarios where there should be more than 30 guys displayed onscreen and so on.
What about modern DW instead?
It's a pretty fricking big downside though. It's the core combat after all. Like I like a lot of what 6 did outside of that but everything 6 did right is ruined by renbu.
There's a couple youtubers doing the whole Sonic 09 "it actually wasn't that bad and if anything its underrated" thing. If you seen any pro-DW6 gays they're literally just zoomers parroting e-celebs.
Basara is great, but west was doomed to not play the best game AND Capcom clearly gave up on the series.
Funny because it relates specifically to OPs question, but Sengoku Basara aka Devil Kings came out swinging with way higher production values than Musou games would get to for a good while. Arguably they'd spent too much on the game localizing it than expected viable returns were.
I'll only accept Hyrule Warriors 2 if they get rid of the big bosses needing items to hit them effectively. That killed the momentum for me more than anything else. You can chip at King Dodongo's HP bar at a high enough level but you still have that stunlock to worry about, so you're better off just using a fricking bomb to stun him.
And even then, too little too late. I'll stick with the mainline DW/SW series.
I've been playing a bit of DW4/5 for the first time. How do the difficulties actually work in this game?
Whenever I'm struggling, I can't tell if it's because I'm playing badly or just because I haven't grinded enough for weapons/stats/bodyguards. Are the higher difficulties intended to be playable from the start, or are they just for later playthroughs? I see people online talking about grinding the yellow turban missions - is this just a walkthrough autist thing, or the expected way to play?
I don't remember 4 well, but I know for a fact that DW5 Hard mode is indeed difficult but still balanced around your first playthrough(minus some XL stages, mainly because you won't be able to kill enemies fast enough and lose to events), while Chaos is the difficulty meant for maxed out stuff.
The first stages on any hard mode campaign are actually still easy enough so you can spend time trying to find items, and there are hidden ones like the orbs. If you get Wind scroll, always use that.
Man I just want a really really good DW empires game.
Play DW5E.
Or SW2E, since gameplay-wise it's pretty much the same but with more policies and the formation mechanic.
The ones we have are good but I want straight up improvements to all their systems, not removing and repla ing systems with equally ok other systems.
It's like wanting a more improved farming game than rune factory 4, or a more realized fable or spore, or an improved sims 3 instead of sims 4. The potential is sitting there for so many franchises and not being capitalized on.
Finding out koei originally wanted to make a standard crossover musou with the entire series represented, until atlus told them to make a p5 sequel instead made me hate it
I was just installing some games on my jtag 360 and I noticed there's a Samurai Warriors 2 (+XL). Always played the PS2 version, never knew this existed but it seems pretty good at first glance.
Dynasty warriors peeked at DW 7:empires >most char acters >most weapons >most customization >blood brothers >marry waifus >conquer the map your own way
The series went to shit when they kept recycling the same engine we see in anime brawlers.
Is there a single musou on the Switch that doesn't run like shit though? I think the first Hyrule Warriors was the only one that even remotely got close to a consistent 60fps and 1080p
Yes. It's immediately after he intercepted Emperor Shao and the Prince of Chenliu when they were fleeing from the chaos of Yuan Shao/Yuan Shu butchering the eunuchs.
DW or musou in general?
I feel like the next one is probably another Nintendo musou, but it's for the Switch 2 so they obviously can't talk about it yet.
Oh they always itch my autistic side, I sometimes want the game to keep going so I'll get to the end fight after uniting all regions except one, then I'll defect to the other army to keep it going.
>SMT
I just think it'd be cool to play as some of the protags and some demons in a musou game.
And yes I know Persona 5 Strikers is a thing. Haven't played, don't plan to because I don't care about Persona. >Splatoon
I mean, you got the whole 'Great Turf War' lore thing you could possible base it off. Movesets based off weapons and whatnot. Playing as Inks and Octos, maybe even throw Salmonids in there. >Demon Slayer
Could be fun so long as the roster is good. Playing as almost any of the demons would be great.
It's a pipe dream because it's not a Japanese franchise but an Avatar: The Last Airbender musou could be really good.
Everything's perfectly in place to fit the Warriors formula. A war-based plot with armies and invasions as major highlights of the story, tons of generic Fire Nation soldiers to use as enemy fodder, a fairly large cast, bending styles versatile enough to make lots of fun movesets, non-benders with weapons and unique fighting styles like chiblocking...
Hell, it could even expand on things we didn't see on the show like Iroh's siege of Ba Sing Se. It's such an amazing idea that'll probably never happen and it makes me sad
The most interesting thing 6 did was a more fleshed out what if lu bu campaign. The renbu system fricking sucks. 3, 4, the orochi games, SW, or gundam games are better choices to play next.
i don't have a problem with it overall, i can acknowledge the faults that they dropped some characters and gave a lot of characters cloned movesets which i still can't understand
it's some of the best music in the series in my opinion though
at the risk of being called a moron I personally think that 6 felt like a more genuine and organic sequel to 5 than the newer games are. there's still that distinct "PS2 feel" to it with how the stages are laid out, and a lot of the mechanics feel like they're to elaborate more on the battlefield, like siege weapons/tactics, swimming, impromptu duels and base ambushes.
7 onwards in comparison felt like everything got narrowed down into the 1v1000 aspect. it always feels like you're the only one doing anything on the map, with parts of the map being blocked off and obscured until you finish an objective and then it's off to the next one. characters also started shooting tornadoes and laser beams out of their ass, and hitting mooks started to feel like you're mowing the lawn.
>characters also started shooting tornadoes and laser beams out of their ass, and hitting mooks started to feel like you're mowing the lawn.
I'm pretty sure laser beams and tornadoes started with 4 or 5.
I have been playing 8 Empires recently. My experience so far has been >threaten is completely busted and better than actually attacking >most strategems don't matter at all, why even bother building random turrets >good god are my children ugly, no matter who is married
>threaten
You could just win an entire Chaos campaign by spamming threaten hard enough, but where is the fun in that?
Also I thought strategems were cool to speedrun bases.
Awakening, the last one is the best imo. The AI can get really aggressive and opportunistic which makes the game more realistic.
Sphere of Influence is also good but easier.
>Didn't play SW before hand >Get Orochi 1 >Do Wu 1st because I'm a dumb kid who doesn't know any better and because red was my favorite color at the time >Get Ranmaru >"Cute chick with a big sword? Sign me up!" >Get to the final stage >"I am a man!" >Me sitting there confused while trying not to die to Lu Bu >Look them up later
Props to musou for making me fall for my 1st trap
Nah. For all its bullshit DW9 had one good addition. >Chinks. Gotta be. >Shit you stink.
Cheng Pu was wasted thanks to 9, shit pissed me off since he was my favorite generic and I was glad he got promoted
[...]
Funny because it relates specifically to OPs question, but Sengoku Basara aka Devil Kings came out swinging with way higher production values than Musou games would get to for a good while. Arguably they'd spent too much on the game localizing it than expected viable returns were.
After play Basara 1, 2, 2 heroes and Devil Kings I'm surprised how much better Devil Kings plays compared to the other three
Speaking of SW4DX, how the frick do you trigger this objective? Guides say it will ask you to defeat all enemy officers but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on what activates it in the first place.
1. Nip devs didn't give a shit so long as the gaijin were buying it.
2. VA work in the west was done on budget of two nickels, some tape and a cupboard.
Zoomers don't even know how wild the PS1/2 japjank golden age was for vidya and anime, pre-net world too.
Three Hopes was pretty fun, if flawed in some ways. Didn't utilize everything out of three houses, I could honestly see Nemesis as an unlockable ng+ unit. What's the good entry point for DW specifically?
7 has the best plot, 8 has the best gameplay. 3 is the one that got a lot of people into the series back in the day. Good to go back to and check out. Same with 4 or 5. Avoid 9 and 6. 1 is a completely different genre and not even counted as part of the series in japan.
Alright, I see, thank you. I'll go pirate those, then.
Did GW fully, for SB skipped missions sometimes, for AG skipped most. And barely did any paralogues, due to underleveled units and lack of care for majority of the cast. Hell, an hour or two of the playtime was grinding the Into the Chasm, to upgrade a few relics. Still mad that Lysithea is not available in AG.

Memories.
One of the best things about the old games was going into Free mode and seeing all the funny lines they recorded for every officer in every situation. Credit for the hard work.
I mean look at this fricking turboprostitute, opening her thighs like that. She is a designated meat toilet for every single Wu soldier and officer to dump their semen and urine.
The 1994 adaptation's music shits all over the 2010s even if the 2010 one is better in every other metric. Imagine the filial gains you get when you're blasting this at the gym to restore the Han.
The other day I randomly learned about one of the weirdest Musou related games. >100man-nin no Hokuto Musou (100万人の北斗無双, Hyakuman-nin no Hokuto Musou; Literally: "One Million People's Unparalleled North Star") was a social game adaptation of Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage. It was one of many IPs created to celebrate the comic's 30th year anniversary.
>Early registration began on Mobage on December 18, 2012. Beta testing started in January. The social game was intended to be a simultaneous launch with the sequel, but it was pushed back into mid 2013 to fix quality issues. It currently has 100,000 some odd registered players. Services ended on June 30, 2014.
English is so ass-backwards. English speakers see "Caesar" and pronounce it with a soft C when it's supposed to be hard, and then see "Cao" and pronounce it with a hard C when it's supposed to be soft.
>figure out how to say cowcow >games go to shit
When did they stop having cross-map interactions? It's like every game after 2 started losing any interesting feature.
Whats the best latest musou released? I have Sam 5 and Warriors orochi 4. I see sam 4 has been rereleased on steam but 5 didn't get me that hyped. I really liked how orochi used the gods and shit
SW5 was a reboot so you might still enjoy SW4DX. If you want a more concentrated story (and like Yukimura), give Spirit of Sanada a go. Plus it's the only way you get to use older Yukimura's moveset. If you liked WO4, then give WO3U a try. It might use a previous moveset iteration for the characters, but it's full of content.
Naw, you can do half movesets for mass production/niche suits like some of the older games if you have to. I never really minded grunts getting only partial movesets and some of them were still pretty fun. Gundam Breaker has kind of replaced the niche of musou though.
instead of an arena fighter like Jump Force, they should make a Jump Musou. Some series already have the framework like One Piece and FotNS. Have these in, with their game's fighting mechanics, and add reps from Dragonball, Naruto, Shaman King, Bleach, Yu-gi-oh, BHA etc etc, give them unique fighting mechanics, have an Orochi style story, there you go.
Especially because the real version of him was relatively complicated and could stand as a good character on his own. I like his move set but the idiot-speak gets old.
Xu Zhu got fricked pretty hard too. >fat frick who mostly thinks about food >way dumber than in the novel or in history >pretty much always has one of the worst weapons >took until DW 8 to even get a somehow cool cutscene with Ma Chao
Funny thing is the big guys my favorite character but it might be because I have Asperger's and he reminds me of the people I know with Down Syndrome and his General shiny disposition. And doing the best for his Lord even if he doesn't understand what his boss is doing.
Funny instance of historically being an butthole who had it coming, but the novel made him more sympathetic by trying top hard to make Kongming a magic genius
On the flip side, it's interesting how Shu's historiography moved to rehabilitate him considering how San Guo zhi itself tries to emphasize that he was not "really" a traitor due to not defecting a Wei. Perhaps this was in part due to the downfall and disgrace of Yang Yi almost immediately after Wei Yan's own downfall. Moral of the story: if you're going to be an butthole, make sure your enemy is an butthole too.
Its funny because if Wei Yan had just went along with the retreat, he'd probably get to lead the next invasion of Wei, since Yang Yi speedruns getting disgraced
i think Wei Yan wanted to succeed Zhuge Liang so he could finish the fight against Shu in the way he felt best, which was unachievable when he was dealing with a clique that hated him, I can’t blame him for wanting to murder Yang Yi
>when he was dealing with a clique that hated him
The thing is, that clique was everyone else in the Shu army, and the main guy he hated, Yang Yi, gets booted out like immediately.
Destroying the plank roads back to Shu was pretty fricking beyond the pale though, that's some traitorous bullshit
I remembering a YouTube documentary Cao Cao gave a very logical military reason why he abandoned the possession of the highlands to Shu but what he had done that if he knew how much of a nightmare would have been to trying to capture it later because of Wei Yan Fortress strategy that outlived him?And never actually failed but was abandoned by his countryman and practically felt immediately when the replacement one was pushed to the test?
Yes but Cao Cao would be constantly invaded multiple times for multiple years afterwards and does people striking back at them couldn't get past those defenses for years and it was only after the Sima Clan managed to capture it after those defenses would change to something I'll get the country was able to take out the sun family.
These games really give me a strong erg for some real time strategy elements where I tell my troops where to go and what to do while I go do other shit. Basically multitasking and I don't mean just send grunts somewhere. I want to be able to train and make them stronger. Are there any musou that scratches that itch? I've only played WoO 3 and DW8EL.
The Fire Emblem Warriors games allow you to order characters around and have them fight while you do other things and they will actually win fights if they have the right weapons/attack types. 8 Empires too kinda.
The port is good and its based on the PS4 version (SW4-II was based on the PS3 release). Includes all DLC but it doesn't replace 4-II because it's actually a different game with a different story mode
As for the game, I think it's pretty good. It's no SW2 but it's still one of the better SW
>In 230, however, the first sign of the deterioration of Sun Quan's reign occurred. That year, he sent his generals Wei Wen and Zhuge Zhi with a navy of 10,000 into the East China Sea to seek the legendary islands of Yizhou and Danzhou, likely Taiwan or Ryukyu, to seek to conquer them, despite strenuous opposition of Lu Xun and Quan Cong. The navy was not able to locate Danzhou but located Yizhou, and returned in 231 after capturing several thousand men—but only after 80–90% of the navy had died from illness. Instead of seeing his own fault in this venture, Sun Quan simply executed Wei Wen and Zhuge Zhi.
What was Sun Quan's major malfunction?
>finally get a new cao family member >its just his nephew, a nervous wreck and failure
Why didn't we get one of Cao Cao's other sons, or Cao Jie, or his wife? Why this dude
>a nervous wreck
Which is idiotic because the historiography claims he was recklessly overconfident, which is what led to his downfall in the first place >failure
His downfall was such a big deal (it's what gave Sun Quan the big victory he needed to declare himself Emperor) because he was successful prior to his defeat. If he was always a failure it wouldn't have mattered.
I liked it well enough. I hope they still plan on making Total War 3 kingdoms 2 think they abandoned it too early. And most of all download the bug fixer mod on Steam if you want to buy it.
which is funny because there were more than 16 kingdoms in this period, plus multiple dynasties. the romance of the three kingdoms is just a blip in several centuries of disunion and war
mountains, that's the tibetan plateau. there were tribes there, they eventually unified into an empire in the 7th century, then the mongols conquered them shortly before conquering china
>Also how in the hell does a thread this long happen about dynasty warriors, but you barely hear anything about it commonly on the web?
These games are too grindy for most people. They satisfy a particular type of autism not found much on any mainstream sites.
PS2 DW English dub was comically bad in general.
FEEL THE POWER OF MY
MAAAAHJEEEEIIIICK
It made the experience.
I EAT PEOPLE LIKE THAT FOR LUNCH
DW3 has some great moments
It was comically kino.
Aight, let's do this.
Dynasty vs Gundam vs Samurai vs Orochi vs AllStars
What is the best Warrior game of them all?
Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends (PS2)
Elaborate.
Can't remember about the weps but I'm playing it right now from the recent 4DX PC port.
>4DX PC port
A reminder this just happened out of nowhere a few days ago. Previously only 4-II was available on Steam.
SW4E literally when
I thought SW4E is SW4DX
It's a little confusing but basically SW4DX is SW4 with more stuff. To not be confused with 4-II, a standalone release that only contains additional stories but not SW4's base game.
Empires is not related to these at all.
DW for story because ROTK is cooler
SW for gameplay, especially the Empires titles
Welcome to old DW, back when it wasn't marketed as 1v1000 shit and it plays more like a 3D beat 'em up. It keeps up at least until DW5, but DW3 is the hardest.
DW8>SW4>Gundam 3>WO3U>shit>piss>AllStars
DW4 >= orochi 2 > gundam 2.
WO3U > WO4U > Everything else
Tho I will say that I don't care for mechs, especially Gundam so I haven't played those.
What about the spin-off games?
Berserk is shit.
Arslan is shit.
Dragon Quest Heroes is..okay I guess.
Hyrule is good, don't bother with Calamity.
I like Calamity more than Hyrule though
>don't bother with Calamity
Why?
Maps and Gameplay is better in Hyrule.
also, for me,Hyrule was a celebration and culmination of Zelda while Calamity was just phoned in BotW sequel bait.
It was a what if story fix involving time travel shit. It wasn't canon and afaik TotK completely ignores it.
I like Pirate Warriors.
Also man I made this tier list ages ago, before there was any DLC.
Tashigi was done dirty, she was fun as hell in 3
I honestly never even played her in either game. She feels like such filler when so many other characters deserve to be playable way more. Especially in 4, when other way more noteworthy characters got cut, but not her for some reason.
Oh I thought you put her down there because she plays bad. But yeah she was great in 3, plays like Mitsunari from Basara. Cute too.
Would've put her in the 'bad character, not fun to play' category in that case.
To be fair, Tashigi is a noteworthy member of the Marines, even though that's likely because of her association with Smoker.
It's too bad 4 cut Punk Hazard, that was probably her most significant appearance.
>has a strong opinion about something he hasn't tried
Yep, it's Ganker alright.
I like Kens Rage 1 & 2
the One Piece ones are decent too
Did people mention FE Warriors Three Hopes yet?
I think that is pretty neat
I've wondered if those ones are any good if you have no real experience with Fire Emblem.
They lose a lot of the appeal, Three Hopes even more since that one relies on you having played Three Houses and knowing the stuff in it A LOT.
>pick up FE Warriors on a whim
>kinda underwhelming but hey it's still musou
>turns out the consensus is it's shit
>"oh well maybe I'll get a good game next time"
>next time turned out to be Age of Calamity
>fun but feels kinda weird and once again underwhelming
>go online
>everyone hates it
man
The online musou fanbase hate every single game in the series
online communities for any game is generally worthless
don't let your experience to be defined by bunch of circlejerking jackasses
yeah I know I just wish I picked up Hyrule Warriors instead since everyone can't shut up about that one
eh, it depends.
first HW has tons of shit to do, but maybe to point of too much shit to do.
People have their tastes and your tastes are also different
I played HW on release for Wii U had tons of fun
I also played Age of Calamity and also had tons of fun.
It's all relative
I think people liked the sequel to FE Warriors at least
EXACTLY, that's what bothers me. I somehow managed to pick the two of the worse games in both serieses.
First FE Warriors suffered pretty hard because it was released after Hyrule Warriors. But I think Three Hopes is better than Age of Calamity.
I loved FE Warriors on the basis that it wad a musou spin off that let me tell AI units which areas to go to, can't do that shit in Pirate Warriors, can't do that shit in Fate/Extella, and you couldn't do it in Hyrule Warriors so it was nice.
that's a SW feature and AoC lets you do that too
You can do it Hyrule Warriors. The versions that are the Wii U one, anyways.
Unless you mean completely AI and not units you can switch to mid-battle.
aren't* the Wii U
FE Warriors was hated for it's Shadow Dragon and Awakening shilling which people were already sick of. Age of Calamity was hated because it baited people into thinking it was a prequel but actually it was time travel fixfic shit that leads to an alt timeline where every9ne lives happily ever after. Imagine FF7Remake but with Zelda.
>Age of Calamity was hated because it baited people into thinking it was a prequel but actually it was time travel fixfic shit that leads to an alt timeline where every9ne lives happily ever afte
it was fun tho
haters gonna hate
>mfw Koei realized licensed spin-offs make them way more money than Dynasty or Samurai games do
It's pretty obvious. They get the initial check from the license holder, plus they usually sell more. I remember reading that Age of Calamity was the best selling musou ever?
After the DW9 disaster, I can't blame them for just relying on licensed ones for a while.
>I remember reading that Age of Calamity was the best selling musou ever?
Yep, with 4 million units
>mfw I'm starving for a good Bleach game
I wish they'd make a Bleach musou. I've been wishing for that for more than a decade. With the revival of the anime it would sell like hotcakes but I feel like the owners of Bleach don't actually want there to be a good game so it doesn't distract away from their shitty mobile gachas.
They made a bleach musou back on the wii. It was shit but they made one.
Not Koei/Omega Force
I wish we had more musou-wannabes on market
they are too rare and in between
Is there any beside Sengoku Basaru?
kamen rider battride war
also demon chaos is somewhat similar but I yet to play enough of it
well musou is too "dumb" for mainstream acceptance
>well musou is too "dumb" for mainstream acceptance
Except that Hyrule Warriors immediately disproves this.
All the licensed ones do, the only reason musous are niche is because the mainline games are asian history games.
thanks to zelda skin and nothing else, anon
people played it for fanservice, not becase it's musou
afterwards people didn't pick any other musou to play, but tears
It doesn't change the fact that people generally liked the game. Is the genre by itself attractive enough for mainstream? No, of course not but give it a normalgay friendly flavouring and people won't be complaining.
yea but you see anyone else trying make musou clones?
even licensed ones?
too much effort. Even if people liked zelda musou, random developers look at it and know it sold cause it's zelda and don't bother.
Vampire survivors clones are easier to make or whateve is hot nowadays than bother with quite complicated concept of armies fighting each other
The only semi-recent thing I can think of is Fate/Extella. Wish they would make a new one. The second one was a big improvement over the first, gameplay wise and Fate is another one of those franchises that's just begging for a quality musou game.
I've no idea how this game aged but when it came out I really loved it.
There was a period when other devs tried, but I guess more nebulous "action games" are more accessible.
You cannot just push the x,x,x and the y,y,y and the x,x,x. You will be sucked.
>play the whole level
>use super-ultra-mega-dee-duper attack on 10k dudes plus the boss
>feel like a god
>die to a fat frick frog because I was mid combo and can't stun them
I gave up on it soon after. The game was simply not it.
2nd game is better
Nah, give me real combos instead of that MMO cooldown shit. Maybe it get better later in the game but early on it sucked.
WOOOOOOW
Kinda surprised there aren't any indie devs trying for it, the gameplay loop is pretty simple
indie hardly try anything much.
they are generally focus on one single idea about something and don't explore anything else.
fricking liberation army is still only one similar
and edf got only one clone, and it's even simpler to implement since you shoot things.
people can't see further "lol mash button defeat enemies"
When you think about it.
Vampire Survivor is just a musou game.
no, it's cookie clicker
If musou was about running around while automatic attacks homed in on enemies.
Don't get me wrong, musous are the braindead kind of fun but not nearly as braindead as the core design of VS.
>If musou was about running around while automatic attacks homed in on enemies.
That kinda exists. If there's challenge in AoT it's in zipping around.
Every time a clone would come out they would forget half of a musou is the battlefield management part and just focus on the combat, which naturally turns people away.
Saint Seiya: Sanctuary Battle?
looks decent but they ignore battlefields seems like
so it's closer to beatem up
Soul Ignition on the ps3 was also a musou wannabe but it was pretty bad as well. As much as Koei has been shitting the bed lately, nobody else seems capable of replicating Koei's formula at it's peak.
Gundam musou stuck on ps3
great games tho
Everyone forgets Strike Force, that game was balls hard and they had the nerve to put this on the PSP, I nearly broke my triggers.
I don't forget, I just don't like it, just like the Gundam Musous
The enhanced port was great though. Shame they didn't do an enhanced port for the 2nd one.
they did
but for jp only
the psp version is also jp only
That's not an enhanced port like the first one. It's a straight PSP port, with the shit resolution and no L2/R2 binds.
I forget it on purpose. I can't say I enjoyed it.
Sengoku basara.
Real.
I like the first two Orochi games the most. After that it's DW4, DW5 and SW2.
Don't care for any of the newer games, they keep pushing dogshit characters. No one feels like a warrior anymore, just generic pretty boys and girls.
DW 7 and 8 aren't as good as 4 and 5 and there's practically no reason play them instead of WO3 and 4.
DW 6 and 9 are special kinds of trash tho.
Gundam because I love Gundam. God I wish they'd make another. I wish they would port them to PC, but that'll never happen.
DW>Gundam>SW>Orochi
DW8XL:CE
DW8XLCE>DW5>DW3>DW2>DW4>DW6>DW7>DW>DW9
DW8E for empires.
This is an OBJECTIVE ranking.
>DW8XLCE
soulless sloppa. the epitome of quantity over quality
The only part of this is list that is objectively right is every DW is better than DW9
Remember when they made DW9 open-world and it failed. Then they made DW9 Empires which would have literally been perfect with the open world etc and then they didn't even use it? Every level was just a castle map. Kek what were they thinking.
Then they repackaged DW9 as a barebones F2P title with 5 characters and moved all other 90 characters in DLC.
Things progress and you and your friend join the army and go from there.
i've been calling her crab apple
How are you supposed to say Cao Cao?
tsaotsao
So, Sow Sow
Sow like a female pig, I mean.
yes, also like Mengde
Why can't we lowly westerners have such awesome names?
Nah, the T can be heard. He says it at 17 sec.
Was this a bullshit fluke like Caesar asspulling Pompey?
miau miau
>Grace got triggered by bikini Sun Ren
Holy shit I remember that. On reflection I kind of miss Grace as Total War's CM. Her combination of condescension and barely concealed disdain for TW's playerbase was always entertaining.
As a kid I said Cow Cow, but find out early teens it was
Cow Cow
Tào tháo
K.O K.O
dayo
unironically ciao ciao
Why do we write it cao cao if it's from a different language with different alphabet and isnt pronounced cao cao?
The romanization scheme for Chinese is GARBAGE
I really don't understand how we still use this trash, especially when the Japanese romanization schemes show that it's not that fricking hard
Pinyin was designed for Russian speakers, not English speakers.
Yale romanization already exists and no one uses it because no one cares.
watching the 2010 series and its quite good
Imagine if they made a Dynasty Warriors game but they made everyone a Black person
dynasty warrior:shaka zulu edition
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
CaoCao actor is so fricking good
He was incredible. Guan Yu was a pain point for me.
Consonant pronunciation for Chinese names in stuff like English-dubbed games has generally improved greatly over these last two decades.
However, "vowel" (I don't know if it's the right word) pronunciation is all over the place.
I know that I prefer Big Dong Zhuo over saying it correctly.
I will continue to call him Cow Cow.
Nobody cares, because you should be playing as Dian Wei like a fricking heterosexual man.
Oh are we cool with playing female characters now? I thought Ganker told me playing as girl is for homosexual when I said I want femc in persona 3 remake.
You take that shit back.
Dian Wei is my fave character just because he has such a manly death
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dian_Wei#Death_at_the_Battle_of_Wancheng
>heterosexual man
ewww, it's 2025 already gramps
don't mind me just posting best boy
Nah. For all its bullshit DW9 had one good addition.
>Chinks. Gotta be.
>Shit you stink.
I'm playing DW3 and holy shit this game is actually though, the grunts are agressive and the bosses are raping me
DW3 and 4 were PEAK. Fricking shame they can only be found for emulation nowadays.
Why not 5 though. I know 3 is more brutal, but I thought 5 made up with fixing most movesets, finally removing the forced lock-on and stage variety
Saying this while playing SW4DX right now, it's really that trivial to reach 1000 unless you go out of your way to skip foot soldiers and rush to officers instead.
in the newer games since KO count is a joke I've taken to maintaining combo count instead
>I've taken to maintaining combo count instead
You would like this game then, the combo count objectives are common in Chronicle mode and appear somewhat rarely in story mode.
I know I already played it 10 years ago
That goes more to say hardware is in fact being taken advantage of and there are more enemies. Imagine if you had 3x as many enemies as DW3 and they were all just as aggressive. You'd literally never get an attack off.
check demon chaos
even PS2 could into tons of enemies
"tons of enemies" is not the same as "tons of aggressive enemies", as you can see with current Warriors games.
nah I get you, just wanted to mention demon chaos cause man PS2 could do some shit
I'd be perfectly fine with sticking to DW3 numbers and aggressiveness while improving every other aspect of the game. And DW3-5 morale system, while we are at it.
>the strength of peons is so really overstated in discussions about this series.
And officers lol have you ever actually watched how officers behave in the PS2 games?
Mate. Stay still and see how long it takes peons to kill you in modern and older DW games.
DW was always a joke difficulty wise. I really don't know what kind of nostalgia drug you people are smoking. The games were never hard.
>3
>not hard
3 is piss easy, stunlocking officers requires zero effort and its very easy to avoid archers and peon combos
It wasn't. Getting sniped by archers from beyond the fog of war doesn't mean the game was difficult. The games being braindead easy has been the hit against Musou game for as long as they've been around.
t. hasn't played anything below DW7 on a higher difficulty than Normal
Even DW5 looks frickin' hardcore compared to the 1v1000 games
Officers straight up one shot you in the modern games high difficulties, a aerial musou from them is almost always guaranteed death and they cant be stunlocked as easily anymore.
I know, yet they are still easier than getting juggled or sniped in a PS2 DW. Mainly because the AI is less aggressive and the peons hardly help.
All of this can happen in the newer games too
There is literally no aspect of the 2010 series that is better than 1994
>There is literally no aspect of the 2010 series that is better than 1994
I think it's better in terms of being a show. As weird as it may sound 1994 sticks too close to the novel which makes it BETTER for people already familiar with the story, but 2010 actually gave some additional nuance and, well, character to its characters.
2010 doesn't even have zhang liaos charge at hefei, its dogshit
Cao Cao specifically is just one of those characters that were vindicated by history and people slowly turned away from default "he was the villain of the period" mindset they had previously.
Cao cao was never vindicated by history, he's still remembered as the tyrant he was we still remember xu province weicucks!
Hard disagree Wei zongwans sima yi blows 2010 out of the water, as hes one of chinas greatest actors
The CCP has actively redeemed Cao Cao because he stood for severing ties with the past as opposed to revering it, in contrast with Shu. CCP wants to be able to both claim 5000 years of history etc etc and also be able to do whatever the frick it feels it needs to do right now regardless of tradition so figures like Cao Cao are perfect for their purposes.
And a future regime is going to tear him down all over again and go all traditionalist. You think this is the first time "redemptions" have happened? Wei was considered the legitimate successor state of Han up through Tang and then was torn down as an illegitimate usurper from Song onward to the point that Wei was actually removed from official "dynasty lists" and San Guo zhi very nearly replaced by alternative histories.
>The CCP has actively redeemed Cao Cao because he stood for severing ties with the past as opposed to revering it
That's moronic. Cao Cao was all about revering the past. His entire shtick was restoring the Han.
>His entire shtick was restoring the Han.
t. Xun Yu
If he wanted to overthrow Han he would have joined the Yellow Turbans, or Yuan Shao or Yuan Shu. Even the infamous Xu province massacres was motivated as a punishment for a rebel Emperor claim in Xiapi, NOT revenge for his father, which came AFTER the massacre as retaliation.
>Yellow Turbans
it always amuses me how fast we are generally done with them in musou
Well, even in the original story they are chapter 1 villains.
I know but I think in DW 4 they had like 3-4 stages
now it's generally one
yellow turban rebellion speedrun any%
Honestly understandable. The most relevant part about yellow turbans is setting up the Shu brothers.
yea I'm not complaining, just find it funny
can you play for yellow turbain in any empires?
>can you play for yellow turbain in any empires?
You can play as who you want in Empires, including the yellow turbans
nice, I need to get to it
Even in 4 it was mostly just the single stage for most characters. There were more but few characters got to play them. Really the only time they get much love is if they get their own what if campaign, something I wish they did more often for factions that don't play a large role.
>holding the emperor hostage is totally not overthrowing the han
By that logic that Han dynasty already ended almost 200 years before Cao Cao. Every single Emperor of Later Han after Emperor Ming (the fricking second one) was a child Emperor held hostage by a regent.
I mean yes, that's true
Everyone claimed to be on the side of the Han because otherwise they would be seen as rebels.
Zhang Lu, Yuan Shu, Song Qian, Que Xuan did not
there was also another guy who declared himself emperor named Zhang Ju who allied himself with the Wuhuan and an officer called Zhang Chun who was asshurt that Gongsun Zan was chosen to lead an army instead of him years earlier
>literally no aspect
False.
This post was fact checked by real Han scholars.
same fricking energy
Kek I had the exact same thought every time he was onscreen.
>There is literally no aspect of the 2010 series that is better than 1994
100x more charismatic actors. You know you're going to be entertained whenever Cao Cao or Sigma Yi are on the screen.
I've played more of these games than you and by a long shot. Were the PS2 games harder than the newer titles? Yes. Were they difficult? Absolutely not.
>I've played more of these games than you
Doubt. Especially since I have been replaying them recently so my memory on difficulty is fresh.
>Were they difficult? Absolutely not.
Highest difficulty in each game can be challenging unless you only play it when you can cheese everything with shit like the death element.
>Highest difficulty in each game can be challenging unless you only play it when you can cheese everything with shit like the death element.
No they're not. You either suck or are exaggerating to win an e-fight.
>exaggerating to win an e-fight
Right back at you. Granted, PS2 musous aren't what I would call the hardest videogames ever but to claim there is no challenge makes me doubt you ever tried the highest difficulty in PS2 games.
I think this is true, but the newer games are somehow every less hard than the PS2 era. Which is something.
Basara is the best musou series
But I do enjoy me some DW3
Basara was better than DW until they upped the ante in 7.
>until they upped the ante in 7.
DW7 was a downgrade from 6 in almost every way, and neither were even close to the mechanical depth of Basara
Lets not go crazy there. It's a downgrade from 5 but 6 was held back too much by renbu.
Renbu was the only downside of 6.
It's a pretty fricking big downside though. It's the core combat after all. Like I like a lot of what 6 did outside of that but everything 6 did right is ruined by renbu.
6 was also when the character designs for some got too ridiculous.
6 is literally on par with 9 with how garbage it is what the frick are you even on about? 6 has always been unanimously hated.
It was hated by drooling morons whose only concern was getting their next husbando a Koei design so they could write fanfiction about them
There's a couple youtubers doing the whole Sonic 09 "it actually wasn't that bad and if anything its underrated" thing. If you seen any pro-DW6 gays they're literally just zoomers parroting e-celebs.
Basara is barely a musou, wish they didnt frick 4 up so bad it killed the series
Basara is great, but west was doomed to not play the best game AND Capcom clearly gave up on the series.
Best game that came too late to fix 4s awful base release. Capcom gave up on it because it wasn't selling anymore then the sex pest producer left
Funny because it relates specifically to OPs question, but Sengoku Basara aka Devil Kings came out swinging with way higher production values than Musou games would get to for a good while. Arguably they'd spent too much on the game localizing it than expected viable returns were.
>check out some footage
>it's literally basara 3/4 but with ps2 musou enemy count
I don't know what I was expecting
IDK but instead of paying like 30$ for DW9 I just play Sengen Kagura instead. Same gameplay, more breasts
New Senran with prettier graphics would be great.
I miss old Gan Ning with his running musou attack. He was one of my favourite characters as a kid.
I'll stick with the mainline DW/SW series.
good movie
Play DW5E.
Or SW2E, since gameplay-wise it's pretty much the same but with more policies and the formation mechanic.
SW2E was peak SW. I still miss formations. And Neutral Start.
Man I just want a really really good DW empires game.
What's wrong with the ones we have now?
The ones we have are good but I want straight up improvements to all their systems, not removing and repla ing systems with equally ok other systems.
It's like wanting a more improved farming game than rune factory 4, or a more realized fable or spore, or an improved sims 3 instead of sims 4. The potential is sitting there for so many franchises and not being capitalized on.
If they did RotTK games that had DW style battles I'd be immensely satisfied
A good mix of brainlessness and depth
Yeah but they would go bankrupt after getting find out only 1 person brought the game
I'd have the game so that wouldn't be my problem
How does Ganker feel about Persona 5 Strikers?
I was disappointed it wasn't more musou but it was fun
I don't play games with homosexual, self-insert teenage male MCs.
I was burnt out with the Persona formula after 5 but from what I've tried of the demo, it was pretty neat. I hope they make Raidou 3 next.
Was definitely more of a sequel to P5 than a Musou game but yeah thoroughly enjoyed it because it was more of the P5 characters/story.
Finding out koei originally wanted to make a standard crossover musou with the entire series represented, until atlus told them to make a p5 sequel instead made me hate it
I just want more historical games.
I was just installing some games on my jtag 360 and I noticed there's a Samurai Warriors 2 (+XL). Always played the PS2 version, never knew this existed but it seems pretty good at first glance.
Dynasty warriors peeked at DW 7:empires
>most char acters
>most weapons
>most customization
>blood brothers
>marry waifus
>conquer the map your own way
The series went to shit when they kept recycling the same engine we see in anime brawlers.
I took me 10 years since my first exposure to 3K to realize Cao Cao was pronounced Tsao Tsao.
I really went through Highschool calling it Chao Chao.
DON'T PURSUE LU BU
how can they keep getting away with this shit?
People shovel shit all day every day.
I stopped giving them money around 4.
>buy the base game
>pirate everything else
The Switch versions including all DLCs compared to the PS/PC versions is fricking baffling
Is there a single musou on the Switch that doesn't run like shit though? I think the first Hyrule Warriors was the only one that even remotely got close to a consistent 60fps and 1080p
HWDE runs at 1080p/60.
FEW has 1080/30 and 720/60 options.
AoC is 900p/30 I think.
3H is dynamic 1080/30.
How has Switch performance managed to go backwards? Both AoC and 3H REALLY struggled to even make it to 30fps

thanks appreciate it, the source material also isn't the greatest and it's been cleaned up
they do have a point, the second one is way better looking
He’s just as much of a based chad in this series as the 2010 one I see
is that supposed to be Dong Zhuo?
Yes. It's immediately after he intercepted Emperor Shao and the Prince of Chenliu when they were fleeing from the chaos of Yuan Shao/Yuan Shu butchering the eunuchs.
I am Cow Pee.
When's our new game Bros?
New game when they finish rebuilding the Guan Yu statue
DW or musou in general?
I feel like the next one is probably another Nintendo musou, but it's for the Switch 2 so they obviously can't talk about it yet.
I'm sorry, did someone say best girl?
Just booted up DW5E again, gonna BENEVOLENCE all over the place
One day I will finish another Empires game outside of DW4E and DW5E, especially SW2E
These games are too fricking long
Oh they always itch my autistic side, I sometimes want the game to keep going so I'll get to the end fight after uniting all regions except one, then I'll defect to the other army to keep it going.
I spent ages making custom characters to populate my battlefields and then never actually played
I'm horny
horny for REVENGE
What other franchises should get a Dynasty Warriors spin off? I would kill for an Evangelion game that's actually good
I'd like to see a Bleach one, or maybe a Kingdom Hearts one (mainly for the roster).
frick boomer franchises. we need skibid toilet musou
>I know Persona 5 Strikers is a thing
Persona is persona, it's not SMT.
I know, but I figured someone would've brought it up if I hadn't when mentioning an SMT musou.
Platinum made an Avatar game so it's not that farfetched
SRW OG
SD Gundam musou when
>Orochi Z will never get translated
I've played DW2, DW5, and DW8. Going back now and emulating them since I got a new handheld. Is DW6 worth it?
get dw4 instead
6 is the worst. Play 3, 4 or SW2
Yes but limited to strategists or weirdos like Zhang Jiao and Zuo Ci
I have been playing 8 Empires recently. My experience so far has been
>threaten is completely busted and better than actually attacking
>most strategems don't matter at all, why even bother building random turrets
>good god are my children ugly, no matter who is married
This thread made me pull out my PS4 from storage
I'm watchin the DW8E intro right now
>threaten
You could just win an entire Chaos campaign by spamming threaten hard enough, but where is the fun in that?
Also I thought strategems were cool to speedrun bases.
One day koei will give us a proper Empires game that is just a regular ROTK/NA game but with musou battles.
Keep dreaming. World will end before that
which nobunaga's ambition game should i play bros, there's so many of them
the only good one, sphere of influence
Not the one from PS2 where you can control your own character's path?
which one is that Iron Triangle?
Awakening, the last one is the best imo. The AI can get really aggressive and opportunistic which makes the game more realistic.
Sphere of Influence is also good but easier.

*Meant SW4
You wouldn't have been wrong, a DW4 PC port exists.
Anyway, it's fine. If you played the 4-II port already, then it runs 1:1 the same.
There has been some anon reports that the port is competent.
It's historical only and therefore yucky and boring.

After play Basara 1, 2, 2 heroes and Devil Kings I'm surprised how much better Devil Kings plays compared to the other three
His interactions with Gracia in that one game (think it was an Xtreme Legends) was cute enough I had them hitched in Empires 4.
Zoomers don't even know how wild the PS1/2 japjank golden age was for vidya and anime, pre-net world too.
>mfw Yukimura's final mission in every Samurai Warriors that has it
Three Hopes was pretty fun, if flawed in some ways. Didn't utilize everything out of three houses, I could honestly see Nemesis as an unlockable ng+ unit. What's the good entry point for DW specifically?
7 or 8
Alright, I see, thank you. I'll go pirate those, then.
>only 50 hours for all 3 routes
That's fast, were you just doing main missions? I did everything and took 150.
7 has the best plot, 8 has the best gameplay. 3 is the one that got a lot of people into the series back in the day. Good to go back to and check out. Same with 4 or 5. Avoid 9 and 6. 1 is a completely different genre and not even counted as part of the series in japan.

shame URC stopped doing Musou doujins before getting to Dong Bai
The 1994 adaptation's music shits all over the 2010s even if the 2010 one is better in every other metric. Imagine the filial gains you get when you're blasting this at the gym to restore the Han.
?si=iSPhuRrDUZoIPn8o&t=84
Wasn't mobage in that era literally just collecting some JPGs with barely any gameplay? Yes i played Cinderella Girls with the rest of anon.
He is my favorite of the officers. I will always remember him as Cow Cow from now on.
i miss the english dubs so much it's unreal
DW is the only series where I can justify that. Because the english dub provides so much comedy value it makes the scenes memorable.
I HAVE SURPASS ANOTHER OBSTACLE
Go play 9 if you want a more recent take on the dynasty warriors 3 performance
Impressive! You do not require strategy?
You must be looking for trouble!
English is so ass-backwards. English speakers see "Caesar" and pronounce it with a soft C when it's supposed to be hard, and then see "Cao" and pronounce it with a hard C when it's supposed to be soft.
Cacao
"Que-So"
>most of the recent additions to the kingdoms
>shu: guan spawn
>wei: tacticians
>wu: old foagies
>jin: wei characters
>other: dongers
It's been real brutal, we need to cull the guan kids ASAP
You succeed, only for Koei to add Zhangs, Lius and Zhuges of questionable historicity and relevance to
Its funny because Wei could use more Cao kids, and Shu could use more foagies like Liao Hua and Wang Ping
And Wu could use more Sun Luban
evil women......
Wang Yi was one of the greatest additions to this series. Her IRL counterpart seems based as hell.
saving Dong Bai from the purge by Wang Yun in the aftermath of her grandfather’s death and helping her plot revenge
Wu could use about a million things, give me senile sun quan
What's the consensus on Spirit of Sanada?
Guys we really need to kill Kongming. He can not be allowed to stay around any longer.
Which Warrior Orochi has the best bawds?
Amongst the usual bawds, WO3U has Kasumi, Ayane, Rachel, Momiji and Sophitia.
That should answer your question.
>figure out how to say cowcow
>games go to shit
When did they stop having cross-map interactions? It's like every game after 2 started losing any interesting feature.
Any 3 player games or are they all just 2 player coop?
Imo Ken's Rage 1/2 has the best ost of any musou game
Would be funny if there was an edit of this Zhang Jiao
>Jin add
>campaign doesn't have a lick to do with Jin
most baffled addition.
This can be said about 90% of dw9s newcomers they're out of non redundant picks
Frankly all the Jin characters are just late Wei characters
>not telling your enemy what your plan is
Whats the best latest musou released? I have Sam 5 and Warriors orochi 4. I see sam 4 has been rereleased on steam but 5 didn't get me that hyped. I really liked how orochi used the gods and shit
SW5 was a reboot so you might still enjoy SW4DX. If you want a more concentrated story (and like Yukimura), give Spirit of Sanada a go. Plus it's the only way you get to use older Yukimura's moveset. If you liked WO4, then give WO3U a try. It might use a previous moveset iteration for the characters, but it's full of content.
I want a new DWG game badly.
They should do what G Gen did and go for either only UC or only AU. Gundam is just too goddamn big at this point.
>Gundam is just too goddamn big at this point.
They'll just fill it with DLC.
Naw, you can do half movesets for mass production/niche suits like some of the older games if you have to. I never really minded grunts getting only partial movesets and some of them were still pretty fun. Gundam Breaker has kind of replaced the niche of musou though.
DW 10 when?
Im surprised they haven't already made a DBZ clone. Would be fun Destructo Disking a hundred Namekians in one swoop
instead of an arena fighter like Jump Force, they should make a Jump Musou. Some series already have the framework like One Piece and FotNS. Have these in, with their game's fighting mechanics, and add reps from Dragonball, Naruto, Shaman King, Bleach, Yu-gi-oh, BHA etc etc, give them unique fighting mechanics, have an Orochi style story, there you go.
>still no Final Fantasy musou
>still no Asterix & Obelix musou
Do you really want a DEI musou?
This shit wasn't fun in the least.
Switch or Steam? I enjoy portability but I won't object to better performance if the gap is really that large.
Meds
Dissidia would have been 100x cooler as a musou.
Most screwed over guy in his faction
>you are intelligent and don't kiss ass to zoo gay?
>you is le rebelling
Especially because the real version of him was relatively complicated and could stand as a good character on his own. I like his move set but the idiot-speak gets old.
Xu Zhu got fricked pretty hard too.
>fat frick who mostly thinks about food
>way dumber than in the novel or in history
>pretty much always has one of the worst weapons
>took until DW 8 to even get a somehow cool cutscene with Ma Chao
Funny thing is the big guys my favorite character but it might be because I have Asperger's and he reminds me of the people I know with Down Syndrome and his General shiny disposition. And doing the best for his Lord even if he doesn't understand what his boss is doing.
Funny instance of historically being an butthole who had it coming, but the novel made him more sympathetic by trying top hard to make Kongming a magic genius
I still find it funny how magic is just real in the novel.
He obviously is not a traitor, I mean watch this, does this look like a treason?
Destroying the plank roads back to Shu was pretty fricking beyond the pale though, that's some traitorous bullshit
would be a logistics nightmare if he didn't
If Sima Yi had pursued, the Shu army would have been wiped out
I remembering a YouTube documentary Cao Cao gave a very logical military reason why he abandoned the possession of the highlands to Shu but what he had done that if he knew how much of a nightmare would have been to trying to capture it later because of Wei Yan Fortress strategy that outlived him?And never actually failed but was abandoned by his countryman and practically felt immediately when the replacement one was pushed to the test?
it’s almost like he knew that the Shu area is a backwards hillbilly area useless to him
Yes but Cao Cao would be constantly invaded multiple times for multiple years afterwards and does people striking back at them couldn't get past those defenses for years and it was only after the Sima Clan managed to capture it after those defenses would change to something I'll get the country was able to take out the sun family.
You're the commander? I'M the commander!
Anybody here played Bladestorm Nightmare? I'm aware it's not really musou but I want some opinions on it.
Kessen?
Is the new version of Samurai Warriors 4 that just came out good?
The port is good and its based on the PS4 version (SW4-II was based on the PS3 release). Includes all DLC but it doesn't replace 4-II because it's actually a different game with a different story mode
As for the game, I think it's pretty good. It's no SW2 but it's still one of the better SW
It's not new, it's just a complete edition of 4 that used to be jp only.
>tfw no martial arts Romance of The Three Kingdom game
?si=Wj7s2fi4vtP9KPOK&t=86
For me it's Diao Chan from DW1
h-hey guys... d-does anyone r-remember my name?
Huang Gai
Ham Dam!
Right?
should i get samurai warriors 4 dx on steam or just emulate 2
2. 4 is not bad but it's not great either. Also it's roster is kind of crap.
Delusions of grandeur
chow chow
cow pee
sow jizz
wrong shoe
what the frick was his plan
To attack the rear
>yuan shu is the final DLC boss for wo long
>extremely difficult
pretty funny
>finally get a new cao family member
>its just his nephew, a nervous wreck and failure
Why didn't we get one of Cao Cao's other sons, or Cao Jie, or his wife? Why this dude
Why not his whole extended family
Yes, just like the Guans
>a nervous wreck
Which is idiotic because the historiography claims he was recklessly overconfident, which is what led to his downfall in the first place
>failure
His downfall was such a big deal (it's what gave Sun Quan the big victory he needed to declare himself Emperor) because he was successful prior to his defeat. If he was always a failure it wouldn't have mattered.
Lianshi
Liu Bei's wife looks like THAT?!
chicken rib
How's the shack?
Koei should hire me to direct DW10
I will bring it back to glory
Sun Quan shits his pants in terror
Does anyone here want someone to be playable in Dynasty Warriors because of what they did in total war 3 kingdoms?
How is TW3K?
I liked it well enough. I hope they still plan on making Total War 3 kingdoms 2 think they abandoned it too early. And most of all download the bug fixer mod on Steam if you want to buy it.
>gets assassinated by Yuan Shu
Sad!
?si=O6tWXFWjryLryt9j
Anyone played this?
IT'S LUUUUU BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Anyone else have any images of Family Guy people dressed up as Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors people?
New samurai warriors empire never
I just want them to return to DW4 style where you're cog in a great army instead god among men that rape enemy buttholes
>"The empire, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide. Thus it has ever been."
>"and by long, we mean, like, twenty years or so?"
>collapses and gets raped by steppe barbarians within 25 years of unification
kek the Sima family is such a failure
>"You loved the Three Kingdoms so much? Here are the Sixteen Kingdoms, with extra barbarian flavor!"
which is funny because there were more than 16 kingdoms in this period, plus multiple dynasties. the romance of the three kingdoms is just a blip in several centuries of disunion and war
what is happening here that the chinks don't most west into it for hundreds of years?
mountains, that's the tibetan plateau. there were tribes there, they eventually unified into an empire in the 7th century, then the mongols conquered them shortly before conquering china
It’s the Himalayas
All Chinese names are said differently in Japanese.
And the Japanese way of saying it is usually prettier,
not so ching-chong ping-pong ling-long.
I fully realized that when I played Shenmue with Japanese dub. Yuanda Zhu becomes Shu Gentatsu
Also how in the hell does a thread this long happen about dynasty warriors, but you barely hear anything about it commonly on the web?
>Also how in the hell does a thread this long happen about dynasty warriors, but you barely hear anything about it commonly on the web?
These games are too grindy for most people. They satisfy a particular type of autism not found much on any mainstream sites.
Because these games have had a terrible rep of being mindless button mashers in game magazines and reviews.
i leave the thread to you anon
*spits blood*
I know it's Tsao Tsao, but Cow Cow is just funnier.
And it pisses people off to say it wrong.
In Japanese it's like Tso Tso (Sōsō)
