I tried to play Dofus again a while back, it sucks, it's not even a problem with the graphics, or gameplay, or community, it's just that it's been around for so long and the grind is so immense it would take months, maybe years, to get to the content everyone else is doing. And all you have to look forward to until that time is getting piggybacked when doing dungeons that would probably be pretty fun if you could actually do them as intended, but instead you're doing them with one other dude of your level who you waited fifteen minutes in front of the entrance for, and one other dude that's like level 170 and just steamrolling the dungeon every ten minutes for god knows what reasons.
I have fond memories of it, but you can't go back to it. I wish more MMO had used its contract killer gameplay though.
By not being a WoW clone, and actually trying to make a turn based MMORPG which is what mmo fans probably play when offline.

Ankama found a way to seamlessly take turn based rpg combat to the online realm, and I'm baffled no other company is trying it.

Drop rates for what? Random resources? Dofus doesn't drop gear with drop rates and Dofus unlike other MMOs allows you to manipulate drop rates with Challenges + Prospecting.
Not him, but back in the day all the Dofuses were only available by drops, and had 1% or less, and that was prior to challenges being available. I know things have changed, but the game is still grindy in a lot of aspects (overmaging gear, making ridiculous overpowerd +ap or +mp gear etc)
Yeah the ORIGINAL Dofus was grindy. Dofus 2 (which is now called Dofus) isn't as grindy and all Dofus are acquired from questlines. The only bullshit RNG left maybe is Vulbis and I had an easier time with that than Ivory.
Wakfu is technically more complex but it plays worse in my opinion, the engine is crappier. Dofus is smooth 2D so the animations and overall feel is faster & better.
Also when I played it like 6 years ago, all the pretty stuff like politics or ecosystem changes didn't matter much. It's technically in the game but very watered down / maybe it only matters at the highest levels, for the classic RPG experience Dofus is better. Level up, get gear, kick monsters, do PvP at the colosseum (WAKFU HAS BEEN SAYING THEY'D ADD A COLOSSEUM FOR LIKE A DECADE, THEY NEVER DID)

But the company is badly handled. Through bad decisions they lost the Latam public (cutting off payment methods, increasing prices to European standards...) but last time I checked a couple years ago, they're still the biggest MMO in France.
They're highly nationalistic so all the marketing is for France, it's like Japan only caring about the Japanese when talking about anime and games and losing the overseas public out of pride.
I just hope they market the shit out of it as a revival and get new players. That or... FRICKING FINALLY MAKE IT FREE, REEEEEEEEEEE I'm fine with it having p2w shit on the store for people who want to complete dungeons faster or win at pvp if it means letting millions of new players in because it no longer requires a subscription
