I play BDO and enhancement fricking sucks, grinding 100 hours per zone for a fricking infinite potion that weighs 50LT fricking sucks, the new region is fricking gay as shit and makes korea look like clown shit, and they don't release any fricking costumes worth buying they just give you 7-year-old costumes for free in boxes they hand out like candy
I fricking hate korean levels of grinding, it's fricking horrible. Same with time gates, might as well not even play if they're going to artificially limit my progress. How does Dofus do progression?
The only worthwhile thing the French have ever done is create OFF
Dofus progression is mainly pushed by quests and achievements being your best forms of Kamas and Experience. There are quests like Kill X amount of mobs but they're not as common as other MMOs use them. You can grind mobs your level but it's more productive to grind out unique quests. Most quests however are things like "Go to X person and talk to them" You will be doing this a lot and all over the place.
QRD on Dofus or Wakfu?
Dofus is a Fr*nch MMORPG characterized by it's 2D graphics and it's tile tactics based combat.
Sounds like Wizard101, and that game is pretty cool despite being ugly as frick and having the worst opening world of any MMO ever. I might actually be interested in Dofus now.
Game is cool but it's dead for international players. Unless you're french it's not worth getting into. I started again a few years ago due to nostalgia and whenever I met someone in dungeons or shit like that they first tried talking to me in french, and half of the time they just ignore you if you try talking in english.
Turn based RPG designed by people that don't even play video games. Minimum effort on everything including character art so you can't customize anything. Content that looks unique but plays like the most generic soulless take on the genre. No idea how or where these devs even make money to be in business
You can customize things. You can change your color, hair and face. You can wear capes, hats and other cosmetics or even use transmogs. However game's cosmetic customization options are limited as a result of Flash which Ankama has recognized while porting to Unity.
I always want to talk about Dofus but I always get dismissed by people because it is a weird french game, so you guys is all I have.
I think Dofus is unironically one, if not the best MMO games, or at least they had some of the best ideas but Ankama always underlivered or just didn't have enough manpower to deliver content.
I am going to list some of my favorite things.
>Crafting and enchanting
Crafting is literally the soul of this game, unlike other MMO this is how you get best items instead of being a side game. You need many people to build a single item, so when you're making your buld, you NEED to interact with so many people. You need keys to be able to farm dungeons, you need materials for lumberjacks, miners and all that. Guilds were really important because of that and everyone knew you were THE blacksmith of the guild.
I also really liked how you could make totally insane broken items with enchanting if you're really lucky, or could simply totally brick an insanely expensive item. The gambling for better items was insanely fun and one of the best system that I've seen for modifying items.
>PVP
This good aspect is gone sadly, at least in modern Dofus since I don't like Colisseums as much but being able to track other players was extremely fun, chasing people around to kill them and each combat was extremely different due to Dofus grid nature. It had rivalry between PVPers and people got together to watch strong players fighting. It was great.
>Leveling
Leveling is a group activity in Dofus, you can't really level alone without it taking a million years, but I think this was great for the game. Logging every day to level up together with your guild was one of the feelings I am never going to forget.
>Mount breeding
I never played with this aspect of the game too much but I really loved how it took years for one of the members of my guild to be able to make a powerful mount, and he was the first guy in the server.
The classes are also all unique and powerful in their own way. One of the only games that implemented a time mage that actually feels like a time mage.
>I think Dofus is unironically one, if not the best MMO games
I do too. Just insane amount of content. Quests, classes and economy done right. Very difficult (but still soloable!!!) dungeons. The only problem is it's Fr*nch which means it has a low English speaking playerbase. But with the Unity port that may shake up the MMO scene and bring new players to enjoy.
The Unity port is UNIRONICALLY going to fix so many of the game's issues. >Botting will be easier to kill >Graphics upgrade >Performance upgrade because no more Flash >Probably an increase in player population
Dofus still has a PVP scene. No more open-world PVP chasing though.
Leveling alone is viable but group leveling will always be superior because you can do more content. And a lot of content is outright impossible to do solo or very difficult.
One of my guildies got into mount breeding and gave me a free mount with a special trait - it can carry twice it's weight.
Yeah if you didn't play it back when it came out or before it came out you really missed out, now it's kinda shit.
I heard they're making mono-account servers for wakfu at some point though, if there's ever a time to play it, it'll be then.
Ankama should license Dofus/Wakfu to indie devs, let them develop single player indie games, metroidvania, twin stick shooters, roguelites, city builders, etc.
There are talented indie devs that would be able to recreate Wakfu/Dofus artstyle, also, recent art released by modern ankama is really boring, or waven just looks bad compared to dofus.
they wanted to make a new game but they already have 2 mmos that are essentially the same thing, so they went the mobile game route and made it as soulless as possible for some reason
they wanted to make a new game but they already have 2 mmos that are essentially the same thing, so they went the mobile game route and made it as soulless as possible for some reason
Waven didn't even feel fun. Your skills are basically a deck of cards so it's RNG based as well I think??? And the maps are tiny compared to Dofus/Wakfu so it feels less tactical.
yeah it's genuinely awful, i don't know what goes on at ankama but i don't see anything in this game that made their old games good, so I assume they lost/replaced a lot of their people
Ankama doesn't deserve this ip at all. They fundamentally do not understand game design on almost every level. They certainly don't know how to make an MMO. I'm hoping they eventually license this shit to an actual development team.
Dofus has good game design the problem is whoever is leading the company keeps deciding on making more projects and competing with their own games. >Tactical game

I don't think you respect how much money the show made both through syndication and just merch. It was animated in fricking flash for the first 2 seasons and cost pennies. It made like a 12,000,000,000% return.

it s because the founder and head of ankama (called "ToT" online) is unfullfiled by the result of each games gameplay, and always chasing "his perfect view" of his ideal game>

Wakfu is newer but it's less supported, less content, less players
It tried to be slightly more innovative with how player-driven it is
(resources and monsters are planted by players) and it's political system. But Dofus' amount of content is just so much bigger and it already has fleshed out systems so why bother to innovate what's already decent.
well, both only have western players
i assume you mean english players and the answer is neither have many english players, but dofus has more players in general

imo, the content in wakfu is just better along with the gameplay
this may have changed at some point, but dofus gameplay was very braindead and the classes had very little depth compared to wakfu
Dunno since when you last played Dofus or how far you got, but I never got beyond lv60 in Wakfu and while fun I don't think Dofus is braindead or has little depth.
A few years ago, prior the covid, I came across bunch of renders on art station about a cancelled ankama game, it looked it a top down diablo clone or a top down multiplayer zelda clone, unfortunately I did not save any of the screenshots, so that is why I'm asking, does anyone knows about a cancelled dofus/wakfu action game ?
The artist was the art director for the game, maybe that is a clue.
It used to have its own website, the info updates for it became more and more scarce and at some point they just silently trashed everything, i think around the time the Xbox 360 wakfu inspired game came out
Anyways ankama killed so many games its nothing new honestly
I always float back to Wakfu once a year or so. I really enjoy the way Masqs play, but it's just do difficult getting into it when there's no community. It's sometimes difficult figuring out what to do, build, or farm, and even the English discord is a ghost town.
Tried getting friends into it and they never follow through with a download.
keep an eye out for mono account servers this year, should bring some community feel back into the game, assuming anyone even remembers it exists by then
never heard of it
Eh frick it, i'll try it out.
you still gonna "try" it after you coom?
It's installing, see you in two hours if this thread doesn't die
bdo is the best
I just downloaded an installer from the official page, is that bdo?

2.0 is better than classic/retro. Especially if you hate the Korean grinding style of older MMOs.

There are International english guilds.

I think wakfu is better, dofus just has the nostalgia bonus so nobody moved over and wakfu got pushed to the sidelines
At the time I got really turned off by the new Xelor design they were using. I regret not giving Wakfu a try nowadays.
Yeah if you didn't play it back when it came out or before it came out you really missed out, now it's kinda shit.

Is it true that Miranda the ecaflip will sell *anything* for a price?
The frogs are gonna actually put Ecaflips and Pandawas in that new game, right? They're not gonna just screw me, right?
i thought it died
Frick Dofus for keeping that same israeli subcription formula and doing the same mistake as WoW
Also Ankama is full of talented and autistic artists but they're hacks in term of marketing and their franchise will die with them
Frick Ankama fricking hard, stop making movies behind our backs then complain you got no sales
I've already watched all the seasons/episodes.
Now I'm waiting for their 'kickstarter' episodes.
Who knows when that'll be.
I love Bakara!

Krosmaga was fun was frick, is that still going?
