I think Sinnoh is alright. I think it tries too much with it being super connected and stuff without having any of the freedom that Kanto has. Moving around Sinnoh feels extremely forced. The idea of a central mountain dividing the region is cool but since its a 2D game, you don't get the feeling of it. It just feels like a random cave you have to pass through and it doesn't help that the mountain is apparently only 20 tiles wide. That's not even to mention the (in my opinion) horrendous art direction of Sinnoh and how they only have like 2 tilesets for the entire game.
Too much water isn't a meme mostly due to how it was handled. It could've been a lot more bearable if it had more variety in its encounters and it wasn't all backloaded, but it became a chore when you could sweep the entire second half of the game because it was 90% water routes, underwater sections, a water gym leader, and in emerald a water type champion as well. The routes being sprawling and having no way to avoid encounters outside of using repels didn't help either.
>Was it lightning in a bottle?
No, "Lightning in a bottle" would better describe Generation 1 and 2, when GameFreak really was just a small indie company riding off the dreams of a bug catching autist who worked on his passion project for endless sleepless nights and didn't even have a debugging team so he had to bring in Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto to help him out.
pic not related? it was copy paste mountains and grass with hms out the ass and terrain that goes out of its way to slow you down in a game which is already slow as frick from poor optimization
tbf the reason sinnoh as a region feels distinct just like the regions before it do is because they didn't try to be everything at once. New games all have to have your designated snowy area, desert area, volcano area, grassland area, swamp area, etc. Sinnoh was the first region to have a really snowy area and it felt unique but not forced.
>mogs it
When the FRICK are we getting southern kalos? Its high time for a double region game.
The fact that the majority of the terrain is sheer cliff plateaus irks me.
Last game in Japan

To much water and the volcano was shit.
Agree with too much water but the volcano with the ash rain in emerald was peak soul.
Too much water is just a meme. This gen has really nice and varied water routes and mechanics.

Pokemon today is just riding that momentum
I hate how they have this huge circle in the middle of the map for the past couple of gens
I don't get it, you posted Sinnoh, quite possibly the most soulless and boring region with approximately one whole Pokemon in it.
>I don't get it
we know, bort

Worst gen (after 6) by a mile
